Hi JH’ 40 years ago, I took my first golf lesson In France. The pro said : golf is like a tennis left reverse tennis stroke and I struggled with that for many years. With you I discover the Yogi system that gives me the feel I was looking for : strike the ball with the right arm and hand, the good one. It is now much more easy for me. Thank you very, very much. Hi Guy, Actually, I have something coming in my next video that should put the cherry on the cake for you relative to the 'dominant hand/arm application in the golf swing... I think the general teaching dogma's of 'holding' lag in the pre-impact phase of the golf swing has destroyed way more swings than it has helped. In my opinion.. the two best ball strikers .. and the greatest 'player.. all advocated 'not' trying to create holding of the lag angle in the downswing..I will explain my interpretations of their thinking in the next video I do. cheers JH
JH Great exclamation for the Yogi Lock...much needed I take it for granted that all the standard protocols for Channel Lock are implemented into the Yogi Lock The ball contact sounded great
Hi Tony, I am trying to do more videos but the weather here has been incredibly inconsistent in that you cannot get a few hours of clear dry weather .. Hopefully we are moving into some clear stable weather from tomorrow on so I will get back on the job of getting some more good stuff about the new things I have been working on .. cheers JH
Hi, JH This vid helps improve my driver distance more than 40 yards. I feel there is no hip turn and keep trail foot planted on ground for better strike and the arms did most swing job. Cheers
Hi Hong, Wow.. 40 yards is some distance increase.. but I know if you let the club have its free flow you do generate a lot more swing speed .. I get around 10- 15 yards more driver distance with Yogi Lock.. and 1 club longer with my irons .. which is a big distance increase for me .. The reality in any golf swing is that the arms/hands are the major producers of swing speed.. and I have found that the quieter you can keep the body .. the faster the arms swing .. so what you are experiencing is proving that conclusively .. cheers JH
@@1atomicgolf Many thanks. I never hit the ball so high and so far before but lack of rolling distance for driver. May I set driver face a little bit close to have more rolling distance? Cheers.
@@hongtao2932 Hi Hong, I would just suggest you rotate the lead forearm/wrist towards the ground earlier in the downswing .. you will still be hitting upwards through impact but with the lead wrist a bit more rotated downwards through impact .. I feel as though my lead thumb is hitchiking 'downwards' through impact .. but the wrist hinge is still fioring upwards through the ball .. You could do what you suggest and shut the clubface a bit at address.. but make sure you set the clubface amount of closure 'before' you take your final grip .. dont just turn the clubface in at address because it will just rotate back to square at impact .. cheers JH

Hi Jeff, I would love to see the Yogi swing mechanics brought back to prominence today.. the swing has so much to give the Worlds struggling golfers .. I would love to have been at the LA golf range where Mike Austin and Count Yogi .. and Joe Norwood gave lessons .. imagine the pearls of Golf Swing instruction that would have been flying around at that time .. Joe Norwood had some great insight into the Golf swing ... I wonder if those guys ever had a golf swing instruction 'Jam Session'.. can you imagine what that would have been like .. Dan Norwood was still teaching Joe's methodology back around 2010 .. I dint know if he still teaches the system .. I think I asked you some time back if I remember if you were related to the Norwood Golf family .. those 3 guys .. Norwood.. Yogi.. and Austin .. have never been replicated as a collective of Golf Swing knowledge .. cheers JH
@@1atomicgolf I did not know about the Joe Norwood golf swing. Thanks for sending me down a fun path JH! No I don't have a relation(that I know of) with Joe Norwood, or Scott Norwood who infamously missed the field goal for the Buffalo Bills in the super bowl against the NY Giants(American football).
Dan Norwood was Joe's grandson ...he has some Videos on UA-cam .. this is one of them ua-cam.com/video/AdR6Ev1gXDU/v-deo.html .. that driving range would be great for seeing exactly where balls land for distance to targets .. cheers JH
Great stuff JH , I can’t wait for the UK spring to arrive until so I can practice your tuition. Have you any idea what flex Yogi used in his clubs ? I’m touching 60 and contemplating using a senior flex 💪
Hi 1977, I have no idea really what Yogi's shaft specs were.. in those days there wasnt a lot of options .. I think he probably just used the std Stiff flex of the day .. The clubs of his day were quite heavy because the std Steel driver shaft weighed aound 140 grams with an all up weight of a Driver at around 14 ounces.. todays Drivers with graphite shafts and Titanium heads weigh around 10 .5 ounces .. the same with irons .. iron shafts were around 138 grams.. today they are around 110-115 grams .. there are still some heavy steel shafts like the Dynamic Golf Tour shafts etc .. but generally every shaft today is way lighter .. For senior players .. absolutely go for softer/lighter shafts . I actually use a 55 gram senior shaft in my irons .. and its amazing that I have had guys that swing a driver at 120 mph hit my irons and love them they go straight and far for them .. I am still quite strong for my age .. and I can still hit heavy stiff shafts .. but there is no point with the way the lighter shafts perform these days .. SO .. my recommendation is get some lighter weight graphite shafts in 'all' your' clubs .. .. they are just such good quality these days and the shaft construction can be light but still have great torsional integrity .. cheers JH
JH, some how Ive missed these but somehow ended up in the same place. The validation is priceless. I am crushing the ball, higher and straighter then ever before, all my clubs need to be re-ranged. What are your thoughts on just forget about your hands and arms and just turn?
Hi Peter, I personally use the hands very deliberately to sort of 'force' the clubhead back 'inside '.. I personally find if I just turn and let the hands stay passive they tend to move the clubhead sideways.. instead of 'rearwards'.. but you could try just turning.. it might work for 'you'.. I just have never done it myself. cheers JH
Hi Noel, Nothing is new really.. it just gets misplaced or forgotten ..'remembering' something is the difficult part ..glad the video jogged your memory. cheers JH
Hi Edward, Count yogi was I think the greatest swing difference in the history of Golf swing mechanics.. but the mechanics were 'resultants' of the mental program he applied ...there were no 'positions' in the Yogi golf swing.. it was all about the motion routine and timing of that routine. The Venetos swing applies very heavily on loading into the lead side at address and staying there throughout the entire swing..the swing I am advocating in this video really only has in common with the Venetos swing the keeping of the shoulders closed at impact.. the rest of the swing involves the application of normal weight transfer right and left during the swing. cheers JH
@@1atomicgolf oh for sure, a lot of differences. But with the closed shoulders and dropped right foot, it reminded me of Jim Venetos. I've always been so fascinated with the count. I just wish there was more infofmstion about Yogi, and I wish I got to see his brilliance with my own eyes
Hi Edward, I have to say that the greatest regret I have in Golf is that I never got to see Yogi in the flesh swing the club and experience his ball flight.. and not having had the opportunity to actually speak with him about his thinking process intricacies relative to his swing . I have had the opportunity to speak with two people who had physical lessons from Yogi.. and one of them spent a lot of time at the golf range where Yogi did a lot of his teaching.. it was the same range Mike Austin frequented.. Austin and Yogi were good friends. Can you imagine Yogi and Moe Norman at their peaks playing today on the World professional tour scene.. with todays modern equipment and manicured golf courses.. they would draw a 100,000 spectators every tournament .. one player probably hitting 17 greens in regulation most rounds.. and the other.. Yogi.. hitting 400 yard drives .. it would be amazing to see. cheers JH
Peter M. Love your videos. I'm sure you are on to something. Not sure exactly what it is !! Would like to see your swing in slow motion. What I do know is that 'conventional' doesnt work for me despite modest achievments in other fields and I'm running out of time to get the hang of the game.
Hi Peter, What I endeavour to do is provide as many 'options' for players to try out as I can, I have always been of the opinion no 'one type' swing fits all players, and on occasions, the most radical departure from convention can have remarkable results. I have tried so many variations of golf swing mechanics over the years, and whilst I can swing reasonably ok with all of them there are clearly types that suit 'my' biomechanics, and if I am honest some of those better swing results I cant define exactly 'why they work as well as they do. To that end, I think everyone should experiment with swing variations and see what types just work for 'them' cheers JH.
Hi Paul, As the std ball flight with the Yogi Lock swing is that of a slight draw ... all I do to get the ball to fade ..that being a a 'true' fade ...being a shot that goes straight and just falls off to the right at the end of its flight .. right handed player.. I simply open the face a touch at address and and pull a bit more with the lead hand/arm through impact ... because this swing like all good geometry quality swings gas the clubhead travelling in to out at impact .. there will never be any excessive curvature on the ball flight .. you don't get cut spin ball flight with this swing because the clubface is never coming from out to in at impact .. If you need a shot with a lot of curvature on it you really have to manufacture a shot.. like a cut spin flight shot .. but that with this swing has to be considered a specialty shot .. with CL mechanics/geometry which creates a back foot ball position and closed shoulders at impact .. you just are not going to get an out to in clubface direction at impact .. cheers JH
It really does feel Effortless' .. and for a broken down old decrepit body that I have these days it is so nice to have all the 'grinding' of body componentry removed in the swing .. cheers JH
