Bro, the biggest problem is that this producers are not ready for the Nigerian market. They keep producing luxurious cars, targeting the elite who wouldn't patronize them instead of building low-cost economic cars that public school teachers and civil servants can afford. I can't use my 50 million to buy a locally-made car that is not trusted but I can spare 5 million for a locally-made car. they should focus on economic cars. the economic class is large.
Your points are well made, in fact I was going to make a similar point. For one thing, these Nigerian manufacturers are making vehicles similar to what are made outside and notably outside Nigeria in DEVELOPED COUNTRIES and brands, when they simply need to look at the emerging economies and their car manufacturers to learn what they did to get big and penetrate their markets And yes, it comes down to price$ I have told my Nigerian friends years ago to take a feather from the hat of Tata Motors (India), their approach is the best solution, they focused on making affordable cars that are adequate and within reach to their own market and it was a great success, they have grown and gone on to make many other vehicles in every range of luxury, with their large dominance in India they went on to buy some of the best luxury car brands in the world ( notably Jaguar & Land Rover, still made in the UK, but owned by the Indian multinational Tata (Motors) Group). This is what Nigerian automakers need to learn, the largest companies, brands and all businesses make their money focusing on key their target markets, not reaching for the stars Be Practical, learn from the similar markets and stop comparing yourself to developed countries/brands/markets You aren’t in that paradigm and won’t get their until you identify your key target market
That's right....they only assemble Chinese cars and label the cars with their brand, if I'm not mistaken it's like that in Ghana too. African people are very naive to realize all this. 😂
Abeg, shut up and go find somewhere hide. Your comment clearly show say you no know any better. Before China make and perfected their own, where you think say they for get the ideas? Moo goo. Dey there and no start from somewhere and watch the rest of the world leave you thousands of years behind.
I don't know where people get the perception that BMW, Mercedes Benz, Audi and the rest of the major brands manufacture all the parts themselves. They outsourced 50%of their parts elsewhere and assembly everything together.
Yes, they outsource but they come up with the engine architect. They pick their previous model and remodel the engine to produce a better output, these designs are down to the smallest component of the engine and take these designs to production plants that now bring that design to life. Afterward, they carry out product tests and UAT, stress tests, and accident tests. Engine performance test. I love Nigerian car companies and what they are doing but what we have is they order parts without design or architecting, then bring them together. The BMWs, Benz, and Toyota are already doing architectural designs for 2025 - 2027 cars. They are also coming up with other concepts of cars, can we say the same of our own car companies. We hope they get there one day when we come up with a design architect that the BMWs and Benz will look at, and copy by ordering parts in China and merging them together.
They design and engineer their cars from scratch and then outsource some parts to be manufactured by 3rd parties. Ask yourself, why do these "Nigerian" car companies have 10+ car models. it took telsa a new company to 5 years to make their 2nd car model. Rivian still has 1 car model after 3 years. Same can be said with every new car company. it takes years if not decades before they can develop their 2nd car model. but these are billion dollar american compies, but a nigerian car company with little resources can have 10+ models? the math is not adding up.
Other vehicle brands designed 100% of their car parts and specs and outsourced production to other companies to produce for them. Unlike innson that imports the steel, cables/ wiring, tyres, batteries, Everything in the interior, and then claims to be manufacturing. Innoson does not have a research, development, and testing team that every original vehicle manufacturer has. INNOSON doesn't even design its cars to start with. They only press steel, weld and then assembly every other thing asides some of the plastic components which they actually manufacture. Notice how Nord and Innoson has similar vehicle design. The Nord guy was actually honest.
Politicians using bad roads as a justification for buying foreign cars must be one of the most stupid things i've ever heard... Who really do us this one!
First, don't call them manufacturers. They just assemble components. 2 As someone who has worked in one of those companies, I can tell you that their cars are of low quality. Very low quality and can't even compete with a fairly used product.
CAPITAL NO... THEY'RE MOSTLY CHINESE MADE VEHICLES, ASSEMBLED IN NIGERIA,AND EVEN LESS EXPENSIVE TO IMPORT THE ORIGINAL FULLY BUILT UP FROM CHINA,THAN BUY THOSE ASSEMBLED IN NIGERIA..SO HOW WOULD THEY SELL?
Here in Brazil we also have cars manufactured specifically for our market and I can tell you, these cars are only made for the 3rd world countries. They are built using way cheaper resources and materials to cut costs and gain more profit resulting in a bad product when compared with cars imported from developed countries. With that knowledge, people will always prefer a used good quality car than a brand new one made with cheap materials for, most of the times, the same price📈
edidyable They could if they wanted to. It's simply cheaper not to do so. That's very different than what we're doing in africa. Also, outsourcing doesn't mean they didn't design it themselves. Look at Tesla in america. They created a whole new production line and production method for building their cars. Since their cars are electric they had to come up with new solutions and ways of doing things, design their own engine and batteries etc. Can we do that in africa? So yes they outsource but many times they are parts that designed themselves If you truly want to call yourself a car manufacturer you should be able to do that, and only outsource because it's cheaper, not because you don't have the technical know how. Assembling cars that someone else has already built is false advancement. We are fooling ourselves if we think it's the same as what other countries do
Thank you. Even Rolls Royce, a luxury brand collects over 70% of its part from BMW. But because it is Nigeria automakers, there will be a lot of critics.
I live in Detroit, Michigan the home of the Big 3 Car Companies. I've worked in the Automotive Industry assembling cars. Most modern cars are assembled from various components produced from what is known as Tier 1 suppliers. the seats come from one company, the center console from another company, the wiring harness from some place else, etc. the supply chain is complex and specialized. One company will produce seats for multiple car brands for instance. But that company only produces car seats etc. I would love to drive a Made in Nigeria car. being able to drive an African Manufactured vehicle would be awesome.
Driving one would be awesome.. Owning one would suck.. I live across the river from you bro in Windsor.. Building quality cars requires quality skilled people running the assembly line..Thats why cars built in Mexico are crap, and toyota don't build Lexus brands in any other country other then Japan and Canada..
@@WALTCHARAMBA To be fair, Toyota like most major manufacturers build thousands of cars per day. For instance on average 13,000 corollas are pumped out a month. That's in comparison to just 10 of these Nigerian cars. These Nigerian cars are basically built by hand. That's more like Ferrari. They build just 14 cars a day. So you can have high quality low volume cars. They are basic cars that look to be serviceable by most repair shops. I'd be willing to buy one. Every major brand started off small.
@@gl7011 lol Toyota does not build 13000 corollas a day. Maybe 1300, but not 13000.. And these Nigerian cars are not made anything like a Ferrari..And no one buys them, cause parts are hard to get and you'll always be needing parts if you do buy one..And there is no aftermarkets parts for them cause they don't sell enough of them..
@@WALTCHARAMBA Dude they sell 1.1 million of those annually. It's sold in 150 countries. That works out to roughly 4400 a day, Globally. In just the United States they SOLD 21,237 in May 2024. That's 707 a day. They sold 232,369 in 2023. That works out to 636 a day. The point is, they are a volume manufacturer. The production process is very complex when you're producing at scale. But low volume can be high quality and profitable. That's the main point I was getting at. Production doesn't have to be overly complex either. As demonstrated by the ultra premium name plates. They are all hand built.
The reason why Nigerians aren't buying vehicles made in Nigeria is because the industry is untrustworthy. They need to destroy the corruption in the local industry to change the trust levels.
I am a South Africa, here in South Africa, 90 % + car are produced here, importing a car is from abroad is exemely expensive , government make sure that you pay higher tax to discourage importing car
The problem isn't whether the cars are manufactured or assembled, it's a marketing issue. Most African markets are simply not mature or rubust enough to support the manufacturing of all the components need to construct a car. Just like with computers, most car brands actually purchase OEM parts and components to build their product. This is true in Europe, Asia and the Americas. The only thing these companies need to say is "We source all our materials from world class manufactures to assemble the safest, fully featured vehicles, whilst maintaining an affordable price point".
That, right there, is the problem! Most Nigerians cannot afford a brand new car even if it's cheap. The Nigerians who can afford a brand new car would rather not experiment with a whopping $20,000+! Unless government can pay subsidies for making these cars a quarter of their prices (like China is doing with their EVs), these Nigerian companies will suffer. If I was Innoson, I'd try in another African country before coming back home because this country is not serious.
Bro it's everything, marketing alone won't help. There are myriad of issues. Roll the video back to when he arrived Innoson motors outside!! What did you see?? Disgust is what I saw! You want people to buy but your environment, surrounding area is disgusting, it says a lot!!!
Awesome video Steve. I'm an industrial engineer for GM and had the opportunity to support Kenya's GM East Africa (GMEA), now Isuzu East Africa, back in 2011-12. My specialty is efficient and effective throughput of which I helped GMEA recognize extreme gains in throughput and profit. I love what is happening with the brands in Nigeria, especially Nord. And YES, it does show that they are getting parts and components from OEMs that already produce the parts for other auto makers. But what Nigerians need to understand is that the Nigerian market is nowhere near mature enough to manufacture each and every part and component in country yet and it is most cost effective to purchase OEM parts and components and assemble them in country. Existing OEM parts and components also assure that there is a reliable source for replacement parts when the need arises. There could be a point in which the Nigerian market can manufacture each and every part and component that goes into their locally manufactured cars and trucks. But the sales volume has to be there and as was said in the video, the Nigerian government needs to be heavily involved inspiring and encouraging the citizens to "Buy Nigerian." That's what Kenya's government did and now Isuzu East Africa is booming.
From a business standpoint, it might not even be cost effective to manufacture from bottom-up, aka, vertical integration, as this is very capital intensive and laborious to maintain. Like you said, as time goes on, our local market will undergo maturation. So, what our local manufacturers need to aim for is also becoming OEMs or ODMs for the African market with backing from government and the people.
No automobile company manufactured up to 50 percent of their car components in-house, except Tesla which is an electric car company. Tesla manufacture up to 95 percent or more in-house. The Rolls Royce we all know used over 80 percent Mercedes S class parts with Mercedes logo, which still doesn't mean Mercedes manufactured them. Innoson can go to those OEM manufacturers and simply tell them to stamp the Innoson logo on parts. BMW and Mercedes and many other car companies sometimes get their parts from the same OEM manufacturer. Those who call Innoson a vehicle assembly is being extremely mischievous. The Honda passport my brother used to have in here in the US in early 2000s come with ISuzu engine. For Innoson to expand, he needs to transform his company from one man show to an investors driven company. This will give him the fund he needs to build real vehicle assembly plants and significantly reduce the cost of his cars and make them very affordable for most Nigerians. His car is just too expensive! Igbos should stop running one man show businesses that always dies when the owner die or become incapacitated. Innoson need to sell certain percentage of his company to investors to raise necessary capital and ensure the survival of his company if he is no more. It's better to own 30 percent of a billion dollar company than to own 100 percent of a 50 billion Naira company. He is probably going to do what other failed Igbo businesses moguls did, which is to send their children abroad to study in hope that their son will take over the company from them. Well your son will take over and run it to the ground. Innoson might not be so much educated but he must have foresight to avoid the same faith that befall others. He needs funding and borrowing from banks can't deliver the kind of funds he needs. He needs investors. He doesn't have to be publicly traded to get investors.
@@joem551 I’m a young Ambitious Igbo Nigerian soon in my twenties and I must say you really spoke with knowledge and all you said makes lot of sense, thanks and God bless .
100% correct. Government regulations (tarrifs, import quotas, incentivising buying locally manufactured goods, government partnership with the brands etc) will set the ball in motion.
This is my take, the manufacturers should go into aggressive advertisement and make the people of Nigeria and other African countries know how good these vehicles are
Aggressive marketing for which target market? That will be a waste of advertisement. How many Nigerians can afford a new car or a clean direct Belgium?
Every Nigerian should be proud of Nigerian carmakers like Innoson and Nord. Just like Indians are proud of Indian carmakers like Mahindra, Jaguar, Range Rover, Land Rover, and Tata
By the grace of God when I get money I will be the first person from baruten LG kwara state to buy innoson motor in order to patronize and encourage locally made product around that axis. Let him keeping on striving one day he will conquer the odds!
The problem is our leaders don't lead that is why many Nigerians don't follow! If from the top to the lowest in government buy and use made in Nigeria it is going to be easy for Nigerians to buy and use as well. Thank you Steven for promoting made in Nigeria though your channel to the world. Cheese
This NORD "assembly plant" is not producing any vehicles where and how that guy explained it. I think he may be importing whole vehicles. He first started out by saying they make the grills and a few plastic parts, then he said 38%, then he showed the assembly plant. I highly doubt they are assembly anything there. The INNOVEN plant is much more legitimate.
Very interesting video. I noticed Toyota Hiace and Landcruiser vehicles obviously posing as NORD. Clearly imported and rebadged, however, the country would benefit more if people were to purchase vehicles made/ assembled in Nigeria. That's the goal
What you say isn't possible, the body of the vehicle can be made by raw materials from Nigeria. A 3rd of the worlds raw materials comes out of Africa. I've watched a few interviews of the owner stating that they import minimally. Nigerians are smart people when building industry but not all are smart when buying, 😮sad truth about the black man. They are extremely colonized.
I've been driving a version of the NORD TANK 4x4 pick up since 2022, just a different manufacturer. It's a very durable vehicle. I've also driven a Toyota hilux. The "NORD" 4x4 pick up can compare favourably in every department. If you understand the auto market well, no one auto maker has all. They commission different OEMs to built the respective parts and they just put them together. We must learn to patronize ours. The Chinese did it and have now become a threat to the popular brands in Europe and America.
Why are these brands not on our faces? why do these manufacturers choose to play small and shy? Their adverts should be on TV daily, and on every major street billboards aggressively. then let the government play its role. Unfortunately, those in power don't care.
@@ikemmanuel7859 Yeah. They obviously don't want to spend money. For the PR guy to be driving an Avalon speaks a lot. So they can't provide him with an official IVM brand? Smh
NORD A5 Pro is a rebadge of the Chery Kaiyi Xuanjie Pro model. The Nord pickup trucks look very much if not identical to Huanghai models called N3 & N7. The newer INNOSON trucks are ZhongXing Terralord (5:21) versions. The NORD minibus might indeed be popular as they are copies of a Toyota model built by many Chinese manufacturers.
Yeah, they are not making any of the cars on the video, they all come from china. At least the first manufacturer did they buses but no way they are making there other cars.
That guy is olódo. He should be sanctioned. Even if he drives a different brand, he shouldn't have mentioned that in the video. Does he not test drive the Innoson vehicles? So if he says he drives Innoson he wouldn't be lying? And honestly I think that part should have been removed while editing because it subtly defeated the purpose of the Promotional efforts.
@@bluepipacademy Not even on the biggest companies you will see 100% loyalty. There is a guy making videos on a Mercedez dealership and he ask the workers which car they drive, and only a few said MB. And when asked about favorite, nobody mentioned MB. It was a USA dealership. Freedom of choice, that is it. The guy might not be able to afford a brand new of the car he produces.
Well guess what. Innoson provides installments for purchasing the cars. Same as GAC, Suzuki etc. they provide car loan services in collaboration with commercial banks in Nigeria. If you contact them you can get more information
If you look at the structure of the garage at 20:00 minutes the structure comes down to assemble it can't be look good at the metal structure they can't move, and the the painting shop with windows ???
The reason why Nigeria is poor is because we import everything. For example, if Nigeria manufactured airplanes in Nigeria, plane tickets would be cheaper. We need to industrialize Nigeria, we cannot import used cars that have been used abroad.
@@m99226 How can you compare Nigeria with Mauritius. Mauritius is an island with few inhabitants and attracts a lot of tourism. And regarding investments, you have to filter, an investment to build a beer factory is not the same as an investment to build an airplane factory.
Nigeira does not import everything, we just import much more than we produce, get your facts right. We also produce certain things. Make una dey calm down😅 An example is vehicles, and you saw in this video that we produce them, not so? But is it being patronize enough?
@@FredNaija What I was referring to is that our industrial capacity is poor, for example, so far there is no Nigerian company that produces airplanes or helicopters. There is also no company that produces heavy vehicles, which makes housing prices more expensive since real estate companies have to buy imported heavy vehicles.

@@Lunar_elNigerian cars are more expensive than imported used cars. And their prices are way beyond what an average Nigerian can afford. If Nigerian people can afford the cars, a lot of people would be purchasing them. The made in Nigerian cars are made only for the rich....
I pray we as Nigerians start appreciating and supporting our home made products some day. If those cars were made in Germany, Japan, or the US, they will be $20,000 more expensive, and Nigerians will love them. There's no new 3-row seating SUV in the US for less than $38,000.
It doesn't have to be new. 🌚 It has to be of great quality For that price, you won't have to look far back in time to get something that you'll love and be comfortable in.
You can't be serious. Japanese and German are way ahead. It will take time to catch up. Even US has not been able to reach that level. Better start small and not compare yourself to giants for now. Nigeria should ask Japan to help them establish a whole auto industry ecosystem
This was a great eye opener of what's happening up north from where I am from in Southern Africa. Next time I get a car maybe in 2 years will look at possibly a Made in Nigeria vehicle. Branding, and government policy are certainly the two facts that can push the cars further for more adoption locally and regionally
The Nigerian branded cars should allow car journalists to review their cars more in other for the people to know more about the brand and its reliability.
This is very impressive! Thank you for highlighting the vehicles being made in Nigeria. It's sad though that government officials don't purchase local to support the Nigerian economy. Nawaooo. Sending love from a Black American brother in the US!
Have you been inside it? Have you driven the car yet? Till then you can’t crucify it just because it borrows design cues from Colorado. Gm that makes silverado copied older range rover model for its nautilus and navigator models…. Does that also make them raggedy range rovers?
So what? This is just their beginnings. Given time, they will adapt. There are many products out there who took something from other products to becoming. That's ART!
@ehis147 taking someone else's completed product and slapping your name on it isn't a beginning. It's typical 3rd world plagiarism. As for adapting as you've mentioned. They've been doing this shady stuff for decades, not adapting, not growing, just stealing someone else's work as their own. The sad part is that so many sheep fall for it.
i wish i could import one unit myself to Brazil, if i had money, we see the cars are top quality, hope people in Nigeria being able to understand the brands are irrelevant if we care for our pockets... maintaining quality, that´s the most important, and the cars are beautiful, i am proud of NORD & Nigeria, that gives me as human, hope for our common future here...
Nice job Steven. I like the fact one of the cars is named “Ikenga”. We need to value our local products. We need to value our own people and our identity. You are doing a great job,Steve.
Yes, government employees and representatives should be required by law to drive Nigerian cars. Get them out on the roads in front of people. They definitely look like good quality, well made vehicles. I was kind of surprised Steven didn't test drive one in this video.
Whether assembled or fully manufactured, this is a good start…..support from the Government and people will result in more innovations and increased local manufacturing of more parts ….and trusting my Nija people, the sky will soon NOT be the limit. Well done Innoson, NORD and all….very proud of you
See, the real reason why most people can't buy these cars is because of financing. If you live in the US for an example, you can spread your car payment over a long time. Here in Nigeria, we don't really have that luxury, even with the cost of living these days is crazy. Oh, also you'll notice most of the cars imported are used cars which are way cheaper than the new ones (produced in Nigeria)
Since I have Been Buying Innocent Cars, I Don’t Have Any Regrets. The Federal Government, The State Government, And The Igbo Should Stop Buying Cars For Other Countries.
In America most of us were let to believe that Japanese cars were superior to American made cars. I hope Nigerians believe in and support one another in buying domestically produced cars.
Led to believe*** When you’ve driven and owned an American built vehicle then owned and driven a Japanese vehicle then you KNOW the difference, first hand. Japanese clearly is the Best option. I don’t need anyone else to tell me a damn thing. Toyota/Lexus for Life!!
They are superior to American junk…can you compare Chevy to a Toyota. I have owned fords and they are all crap, constantly having faults while my Japanese cars run with no issues.
Ist is the price. Second is that there is no loan system that is attractive for low income earners. For example, those earning 200k - 150k salary cannot be paying 100k monthly repayment for a vehicle of 8million naira. What would they take home to their families? But 50k repayment plan is ok for a vehicle of 8million naira to be paid in 14years time. But a repayment plan that is less than 10years is a no no. It just cant work. Thats why people prefer used vehicles which are roughly 3million - 5 million for fairly used vehicles. Even in the US if everyone will have to pay the full price of a vehicle, then very few will own cars as most people earn less than 30k dollars per year. But because of the credit system, they all have cars. If we want everyone to have cars, then we must introduce the credit system here.
They need to partner with govt to introduce car loans. One minister was talking about car loans for made in Nigeria cars, but they have piped low on that.
Then you can just have a target market(professionals) and ensure that they are in paid employment before handing over your cars. It's so simple. You don't have to give your cars to every Tom Dick and Harry. Start with the middle class first and see if it will not work.
Dude, I hope you guys export those inoson cars to other countries. I would buy one of this for sure. This Nord 5 we have in Brazil. It is called Caoa Cherry Tiggo 5. Amazing quality.
The car dealer put across really good points. Great video Steven, the only issue is that you keep comparing Nigerian-made cars to Luxury brands like Mercedes. The features offered between the two are day and night. The features offered by Nigerian -made cars are a decade behind the current market.
Great investigative journalism bro. I believe one government policy would change the entire polity and the mind set of Nigerians towards home grown products forever. In China, the government subsidizes the Auto industry and places huge taxes on imported ones.
While I in general agree with you I have to tell you a little bit about this specific step. I am an automotive engineer and I planned body show welding systems for quite some years. If you look at the front right of the video there is a spot weld gun visible. Those have copper caps that need to be cleaned/milled down frequently to work properly. Otherwise they don’t weld inside their parameters. He has done the weld points with the gun first and now saw that some spotwelds are not done properly. Redoing it with the gun is not doing the trick, thats why he is trying to do the spotweld by hand. Repairing a spotweld by hand is an official procedure that can be done at a rework station. However you have to do it properly. I do not dare talk about the welders skills over the internet, bit if he did it correctly, that weld is 100% fine. Now if we take the general tone of this video and in what a bad light the Nigerian car industry is, form your own opinion about those handmade welds.. I just wanted to give you a heads up that this form of repairing a spotweld is generally allowed in automotive production.
@@rolux4853 I mean the fact he is welding with sunglasses and bare arms. I can't see the tack quality from the video. That's probably fine. But if one part of the manufacturing is unprofessional the rest probably is too.
It's not just about manufacturing. The companies need to have after market services. Suzuki has after market service center in every state in Nigeria. I wanted to buy Innoson G80 even i was visiting Nigeria last year but the sales rep could not provide me with a contact for after market service. I decided to settle for Suzuki jimny since i could not afford G-wagon.
He can't have such business if he's not intelligent na😂. But how our government couldn't understand this simple stuff is bewildering. One of them was talking about maintenance after 4 years, like they use their cars for 4 years... mtchew. Well, my first choice vehicle is IVM GRANITE sha. Having seen Nords SUV, I will also consider it for a Family car.
I would have liked to see you ask the factory manager about replacement parts and service support.....you missed a big part of the issue bruv..... reliability....great video so far...god bless you brother ❤️🇺🇲
IVM I think is still a bright spot. From what I know they hold at least 60% of the Nigerian commercial transport market and started exports to some other African countries.
It’s great to see this, that they are producing vehicles, waiting to see Nigerian car manufacturing move to a level where there is more automation such as robotic welding, and in house stamping and likes
The issues relating to Nigeria product not being appreciated or valued is also applicable to services and like the nord man said people gravitate towards well known brand and don’t give chances to other brands that also have greater quality similar to the well known brands , Nigerians need to do better , this is an insightful documentary
One question you didn't ask is what's the warranty of the cars. Well known brands offer warranty and customer service for their cars. What does Innoson and Nord offer?
Nice one Stephen. I like the honesty of the NORD CEO when you asked about getting inspiration for their designs. On the other hand, I was somewhat disappointed with the Innoson reps answer. We are not blind and people do not appreciate being patronised or being lied to. As.a member of the public, I instantly gravitated to NORD. HONESTY IS ALWAYS THE BEST POLICY
Nord CEO said the truth because he is the owner hence no consequence for saying the truth, the Innoson guy is just an employee trying to protect his job, he may say the truth & lose his job. If it was Innoson himself, he may say the truth as well.

I think one of the thing the Nigeria car producing companies are not doing right is their method of marketing. You can turn your tv on from morning till night and you won't see any of those companies displaying their cars to Nigerians. My point is, like jefben said we go for the brands that is always flashing on our faces and telling us about their worth and what the cars can do. I think the Nigerian car companies needs to do alot more in promoting and selling their brand to Nigerian.

Hello Steve, Thanks for showing the world the auto manufacturing car made in Nigeria, the problem is that the manufacturing cars they have to do more on publicity worldwide especially in all the national TV program and every possible Miss to let people be aware of their product
The problem is they don't have their identity. they just acquire licences to copy japanese and chinese vehicles. most times you can't even differentiate the vehicles . They only change the emblem and name. nothing more
Worldwide???😂😂 Who will wake up one day and say Let's buy Nigerian cars coz Japanese cars aren't good as Nigerian. Maybe first of all build a reputation. Building reputation takes time. You cannot be 1 year old company and claim your cars are reliable. It has to run for 5 years atleast with no major problem. People will buy only when that repatriation or claims are proven true in real world. Nigerian companies should sell their cars at minimum profit or even at a loss for their initial years.
Fellow Africans tend to forget that for every multinational there is specialisation, thus several parts come from different manufacturers. Hello from Russia. I so glad to see that you guys produce so many well crafted cars in your country. I completely agree with a young man that people need to buy domestically assembled cars. It is good for your economics and jobs places for your citizens. Please, show more reports from your country. I have strong beliefs that it's a good place to visit as a tourist, nonetheless, we don't know much about your country.
I can see why no one is interested in this. Only the bus structure is made in what looks like a workshop rather than a factory. That welding process is quite primitive from 60-70 years ago. The cars are just cheap Chinese cars rebranded as Innoson. You do not see any plastic molding, electronics, seat manufacturing, lining, etc. plants that are quite sophisticated. Nobody wants to buy cheap Chinese cars assembled in a shabby workshop. Those Cars/SUVs parked at 11:00 onwards are JAC or BAIC models which are low-cost Chinese brands.
From around 14:52, it's obvious that the Nigerian brands need to work more on making their company viable by showing that their brands can be trusted. If they can do that, they would succeed.
@@jondoe1444 Oga it is not a lie, it's only in this part of the world that Made in Nigeria means that everything has to be 100% manufactured in Nigeria and it's a problem. Companies like Benz and even Toyota don't manufacture their engines, they outsource it, and like the man said In video, they design the specs. But they'd rather have companies like China etc. to mass produce it. Why, well that's because that what they're good for, and they can't be in charge of making everything. Every business runs like that, even down to tech companies.Take Tesla for example, you will think their car batteries are made in America, but they are not, they are outsourced to countries that has more abundant Lithium supplies. I only wish .ore publicity is put out there.
Corrupt lawmakers should focus on building better roads for the citizens instead of importing cars. Local manufacturing can uplift both the people and the nation.
2:27 I'm not Igbo but I know any Igbo president will drive a Nigerian made car because I know how they reason. You see Soludo and Otti doing that already as governors. Even if Tinubu doesn't like Innoson, he can go to Nord or Proforce, to make him a full size bulletproof sedan like S Class or even a limousine. They can do it, not a big deal!
Still not made in Nigeria. They are made in china/India but assembled under a Nigerian car company. When you say “made in Nigeria” it means the parts are all made locally. Are these product completely made in Nigeria?
Let them build a showroom in the whole 36th. state and FCT. where did we expose their cars to Nigeria. They will see the growing of the selling of car will increase. As well the government should provide a credit scheme to assist the workers to purchase those car which is very important
They don't need a show room in the 36 states. They need aggressive advertising that shows the capabilities of their cars. They need to give their cars free of charge to celebrities and popular UA-camrs in Nigeria and beyond to promote their cars. A lot will change overnight if you see Davido or Wizkid or even see Steven here with Innoson car. Wonde Maya has visited Innoson many times but Innoson is waiting for him to buy his car instead of giving him one for free. I know many UA-cam creators with less than a million subscribers that have gotten cars for free from companies like Toyota, Hyundai, Ford, Chrysler etc just for promotion. Mind you, those companies are household names and yet, they are still promoting aggressively. Innoson needs a modern marketing department with marketers and content creators to market his cars, and so is Nord. Although, I will suggest that the guy change the name from Nord to something else. He won't be able to sell those cars in the US in the future, due to potential copyright issues with Ford. Ford will bury his company with lawsuits even they know they will lose. They will sue him simply because they can and have the funds to sustain the lawsuits longer than Nord will ever do. That's a tactics big companies use to bury new competitors. But in this case, the name is just too similar. He will lose to Ford in a lawsuit for sure in the US. He might not think that his company may become big in the future right now but he never know. He needs to think a hundred years ahead. Change the name now and copyright and trademark the name.
The providing of credit is the Job of the companies The US government wasn’t the one that provided credit to ford workers to buy ford cars it was Henry ford that did that Nigerians need to leave this mentality that the governments job is to make private bussineses successful its job is to promote the economy not subsidise everyone’s life
Bro, the biggest problem is that this producers are not ready for the Nigerian market.
Well said
How do you want to purchase a brand new car for 5 million in 2024? A brand new keke goes for 3 million naira.
That’s a good idea and you have made some valid points
You can spare ~$3000 for a brand new car made in Nigeria😂😂😂
Your points are well made, in fact I was going to make a similar point.
For one thing, these Nigerian manufacturers are making vehicles similar to what are made outside and notably outside Nigeria in DEVELOPED COUNTRIES and brands, when they simply need to look at the emerging economies and their car manufacturers to learn what they did to get big and penetrate their markets
And yes, it comes down to price$
I have told my Nigerian friends years ago to take a feather from the hat of Tata Motors (India), their approach is the best solution, they focused on making affordable cars that are adequate and within reach to their own market and it was a great success, they have grown and gone on to make many other vehicles in every range of luxury, with their large dominance in India they went on to buy some of the best luxury car brands in the world ( notably Jaguar & Land Rover, still made in the UK, but owned by the Indian multinational Tata (Motors) Group).
This is what Nigerian automakers need to learn, the largest companies, brands and all businesses make their money focusing on key their target markets, not reaching for the stars
Be Practical, learn from the similar markets and stop comparing yourself to developed countries/brands/markets
You aren’t in that paradigm and won’t get their until you identify your key target market
Those are mainly Chinese cars. Look at those rebadge Foton/GWM/BYD vehicles. The only difference is they are assembled in Nigeria.
That's right....they only assemble Chinese cars and label the cars with their brand, if I'm not mistaken it's like that in Ghana too. African people are very naive to realize all this. 😂
Nor mind these people.

Mercedes Benz are from Germany 🇩🇪 what is the difference between Germany 🇩🇪 and China 🇨🇳?
I don't know where people get the perception
that BMW, Mercedes Benz, Audi and the rest of the major brands manufacture all the parts themselves.
Swears.. Even Bugatti don't produce some of thier own engines
That's the poor mentality and knowledge impacted in them to believe that everything foreign comes in quality

The car manufacturers in Nigeria should spend more aggressively in advertisments to make Nigerians more aware of these cars.
First, don't call them manufacturers. They just assemble components. 2 As someone who has worked in one of those companies, I can tell you that their cars are of low quality. Very low quality and can't even compete with a fairly used product.
@o_m8717 what are your reasons for saying that they are of low quality?
CAPITAL NO... THEY'RE MOSTLY CHINESE MADE VEHICLES, ASSEMBLED IN NIGERIA,AND EVEN LESS EXPENSIVE TO IMPORT THE ORIGINAL FULLY BUILT UP FROM CHINA,THAN BUY THOSE ASSEMBLED IN NIGERIA..SO HOW WOULD THEY SELL?
@@o_m8717almost all car manufacturers simple assembly car orders components from all over the world so stop this backwards talking
Please be quiet. Low quality my ass .
Hmm.
Let them start producing a Toyota Corolla type. So that people can afford it for the Use of Uber
New cars are not cheap, years ago banks use new cars for maximum of 2years and sell to their workers until Buhari happened

Innoson has a make like that
Chinesium copy of Corolla won't survive a year as an Uber in Nigeria.
Let's be frank.
There is no Nigerian built car.
Welding together 5 cars a month and 3 busses doesn't make a Nigerian automotive industry.
But its a start
It still creates job for nigerian..
This 40 minute video literally shows you production, even if its more in the way of workshop production then mass production.
Typical white racist, satanist response, discredit anything black.
No car manufacturer manufacture every components of their car. Not even Toyota, Nissan, Mercedes, ford etc
edidyable
They could if they wanted to.
So yes they outsource but many times they are parts that designed themselves
If you truly want to call yourself a car manufacturer you should be able to do that, and only outsource because it's cheaper, not because you don't have the technical know how. Assembling cars that someone else has already built is false advancement. We are fooling ourselves if we think it's the same as what other countries do

Takes sense

@@viewviewview1236Go watch another video of IVM.
The MAIN problem is the lack of advertisment. The manufactors of these cars need to boost there adverts throughout africa and the international stage.

It has to be of great quality
For that price, you won't have to look far back in time to get something that you'll love and be comfortable in.
Made in Nigerian cars has no good PR and also no government support
You can't be serious. Japanese and German are way ahead. It will take time to catch up.
Even US has not been able to reach that level.
Better start small and not compare yourself to giants for now.
Nigeria should ask Japan to help them establish a whole auto industry ecosystem

Branding, and government policy are certainly the two facts that can push the cars further for more adoption locally and regionally

Hello Mr. Steve i am a Nigeria born German. The acronym "Nord" in german means "North" in english language.

The Nigerian branded cars should allow car journalists to review their cars more in other for the people to know more about the brand and its reliability.
I love to buy made in Nigeria, but they should produce for the economy class and not the elite
This is very impressive! Thank you for highlighting the vehicles being made in Nigeria. It's sad though that government officials don't purchase local to support the Nigerian economy. Nawaooo. Sending love from a Black American brother in the US!
Those cars are not made in Nigeria, they are only assembled in Nigeria. 100% of parts used in those vehicles are made in china.
@@Jehowy666 not 100% of parts. Also, MOST car manufacturers import parts made abroad. These cars are still made in Nigeria.
By this documentary alone, the Nord CEO was great. I'm definitely getting one in the future.
The blue "NORD" @0:03 is obviously an older rebaged Chevy Silverado. They're not fooling anyone.😑
Yup
Yeah, they're not making any cars on that "assembly line". All of these cars are rebadged cars from china.
The thing there is if you don't buy and use made in Nigerian car how will they know the durability and the capability?
Exactly...how will you judge the quality of the car without trial. You try, criticize and the manufacturers improve.
Nice job Steven.
I like the fact one of the cars is named “Ikenga”. We need to value our local products.
We need to value our own people and our identity. You are doing a great job,Steve.
Absolutely!
Problem is that our government should lead by example.
Yes, government employees and representatives should be required by law to drive Nigerian cars. Get them out on the roads in front of people. They definitely look like good quality, well made vehicles. I was kind of surprised Steven didn't test drive one in this video.

You are totally right that we don't spread the payment over a long time. I think this is as a result of recovery may be difficult.

You made valid points here

The car dealer put across really good points. Great video Steven, the only issue is that you keep comparing Nigerian-made cars to Luxury brands like Mercedes. The features offered between the two are day and night. The features offered by Nigerian -made cars are a decade behind the current market.
Marketing has gotten so good that people will fall for the branding process more than actual using a product to properly grade the quality
That’s right

Great investigative journalism bro. I believe one government policy would change the entire polity and the mind set of Nigerians towards home grown products forever. In China, the government subsidizes the Auto industry and places huge taxes on imported ones.
It’s not tho. I think there is not enough emphasis on how those are just Chinese vehicles
It's good to see that in some places, independent manufacturers still exists. Best wishes for further developnent.
You can see why at 0:11 seconds of your video. No need to watch the rest of it. If you understand what welding is you don't buy this car.

Do they advertise on TV?, advert is key. They must flood the screens with adverts, people will buy, that is the key.

Who will wake up one day and say Let's buy Nigerian cars coz Japanese cars aren't good as Nigerian.
The CEO of Nord is a very honest man.
Yeah except the fact that this was not an assembly line and he just import those trucks
Doubtfull the engines are japanese

Where are v8 with 500 - 900 hp all wheel drive?

The create scheme is very important in all
They don't need a show room in the 36 states.

True here in the states u have multi million dollar car dealerships that offer servicing and a comfy atmosphere and show room
