My nephew had asked me to buy him a PS2 recently(it was his 1st console back in the day). I figured those things would be like $20 now... (nope!) - I "lucked out" and found someone locally selling a fat PS2 for $80. When I met him to buy it, he threw in 2 controllers, a memory card and a stack of games(around 11 or 12). My nephew was happy.
It does suck how corporate Goodwill got. All the good stuff goes straight to the auction site, but going to the store just to see whatever wacky things you can find is half the fun.
I've really been on a PS2 kick lately. Been playing manhunt and ratchet and clank. I played both as a kid but now can really appreciate it. It's such a good console. Even the bad games are ok in their weird way.
I like the stickers. This is probably like an elementary school kid's PS2 (due to reading power sticker.) that they played, and got resold, and got rebought then got resold to you.
i loved getting second hand memory cards just to see what saves they had on em, i still have around 20 that include some game complete saves for games ive never even played
Really made me smile to see the Video Games Etc. custom printed cover. Went to many of their stores throughout my younger years. They ran the most ridiculous radio ads too. They'd sing their name in a jingle and then in a woman's voice: "It's just a game" followed by a man's voice, literally screaming: "I DON'T THINK SO!!!!!"

Nice purchase there, the memory card is probably just a bit dusty/dirty on its contacts where its inserted int the port and might just need a clean with ipa and a q tip (cotton wool bud). PS2's are far from cheap these days (esp here in the UK) and boxed ones are worth a small fortune. .
I was lucky enough to be in a charity shop last year when a young woman was bringing in a GameCube with 20+ games in, I told her I would pay her a decent amount rather than let her give them away for free & I ended up giving her £40 for everything she had, I have to say I bought them without seeing the games so I didn't realize at the time I would go on to make close to £900 for the console & all the games at that time (There were 3 rare games for the platform one was worth over £300 alone)
If you go to the right thrift stores you can still find stuff like this for low prices. Don't wanna reveal certain chains in particular, but it's very possible. Within the past 3 or so years I've gotten a gamecube, genesis, original xbox, 3ds (with some games + a case) for anywhere from $5-$10 per system, and all sorts of games from NES to PS4 under $5 per. Not to mention the literal stacks of xbox 360s and wiis I have found and not touched since I already had multiple of them. Point is, it's still very possible to get deals. Especially if you go to local shops. Figure out where multiple locations are and make a day out of it.
I paid $50 for mine with all cords and an 8mb memory card and one controller all in clean and great working condition. Plus the man included 78 games for another $50
Prices are coming down. There are websites that track the confirmed sales of other websites like eBay and Amazon and will make you a plot chart of the sales, over time, of whatever item you look up, and according to those websites the cost of video games, and consoles across the board are finally declining (to before Corona prices and even lower). I was also watching John riggs's new video of his trip to a gameing convention that came out maybe three days ago. And at this gaming convention he ran across multiple multiple booths with huge gaylords filled with with super Nintendo, game boy, Genesis, ps1 etc games a dollar a piece.
Eh, I use pricecharting daily and prices are still much higher than mid 2020. Prices have come down just a bit from highs in March-April of this year, but they certainly have not dropped much. I'm not surprised at people selling games for a $1 at conventions, there are thousands of games that aren't worth selling online because of shipping costs and fees, so selling games at $1 in person is one of the only options for those games.
