That's neat somebody posted this. I remember I had got in trouble in school and was sent to bed only to use a transistor radio as my imagination. Thank You for posting.
Raiders, Bills. Just an amazing game in an era when every NFL team showed up, and cared. Talent on both sides, so evenly matched. Great booth crew. Rashad before he became a Viking! Bet they wanted that trade back, but thank you! Great post.
First time I'm seeing this in the 45 years since I first watched it back in'74. Only defeat the Raiders suffered on Monday night during the whole decade. A bitter end to my first day attending Nursery School.
We were there with Season Tickets! And the saddest part of this Era, WE WERE STUCK WITH PATHETIC OUT OF TOWN ANNOUNCER AL MELTZER who Had No Ties to Buffalo, as WBEN and HALL OF FAMER VAN MILLER did not have the contract to call the games in OJ’s Best Years. Truly a pathetic time not having HOF VAN on the calls! It would have Been so Cool to Hear VAN MILLER calling VON MILLER Bills Sacks!!
@@PerpetualArt I wish the Oilers were still in Houston, I've heard that the '92 playoff game against Buffalo where they blew a 35-3 lead actually lead to their departure from Houston, I don't know, What are your thoughts?
@@JayDogTitan-he6wo No, actually the '93 loss at home to Kansas City was even a bigger reason. After winning 11 in a row to finish the season, they got beat by a team they killed in week 2.
@@kingdomofanimaria IMHO, you should watch the highlight reels from 1972-6. Now, look at the Bills" records for those 5 seasons. Think about how much worse the team would have been without him.
I remember reading in John Madden's first book that he jumped all over Howard Cosell after this game because Cosell told Madden after the game, "John you gave us a a great show tonight", Madden yelled back, "Show?!! Show?!!, To you it's a show to me it's a goddamn game we just lost and there's nothing great about it!!!! Madden said Cosell jumped in his limo and hauled ass.
We showed up the next day at school it was great to start with. Here in Upstate NY there were a lot of Bills fans, me included. The whole place was in shock when we found out that our English Teacher Mr. Castle's parents were both killed on the way home from the Bills game. They were hit by a train while going over one of those unmarked crossings. I great win but this will always be remembered for what happened after the game for Port Byron High School and the lost of Mr. Castle's parents.
Listen to that crowd! This was life and death for them. Pure electricity! And I didn't get to see the second half because I was only 8 and my parents sent me to bed lol. But I listened to them watch the ending and I was aware of the final score. MNF was huge in the 70's.
This is the only time the Raiders lost on MNF in the entire decade of the 1970's. This is back when the Bills used to be on MNF 2-3 times a year mostly because of OJ Simpson. Can't even remember the last time MNF came to Buffalo but I have a feeling they'll get a few prime time games in 2020 after their great 2019 season. The best thing that has happened to the Bills franchise in about 20 years is new ownership and the hiring of GM Brandon Beane and HC Sean McDermott. Ralph Wilson's cheapskate mentality is the reason the Bills were a laughingstock for most of their existence. At least the Pegula's actually care whether they win or lose
Before this game started, Cosell did an interview with Hank Schwartz, head of Video Techniques, which was handling the closed-circuit broadcast of the upcoming Ali-Foreman fight. Earlier that day the fight was postponed because of an eye cut Foreman suffered in training. Do you have that interview? If so, please post.
I believe so, The Raiders really looked forward to Monday night games especially in the 70s, They just ate up the spotlight. That's why they won as many games as they did.
They were 4-0-1 on MNF before this defeat. Then they reeled off 14 straight MNF wins before losing again, 23-10 at San Diego in the 1981 season finale-their final game before moving to LA for 13 seasons.
They entire town worked 11-7, third shift, or started at 6 am. These games were at 9pm ET. Monday night games were hell for factory town fans. There's no way anyone can understand, things have changed so much.

Joe Ferguson is one of the most underrated quarterback's in NFL history.

I was watching this game with my dad. He was a Raider season ticket holder from 1966-1981.
GREAT! We had a great trio of WR's with Chandler ready to go too. Fergy threading 2 to Rashad was EPIC.
Great game ... I remember it ... my RAIDERS lost, but that was a fun game!

LOL, remember this story
Prior to Rocky, where Duke told Apollo Creed, "He don't know it's a damn show, he thinks it's a damn fight!"
Joe Ferguson was a great QB that never received full recognition

Ferguson to Rashad, what could have been? They would have played together for a decade.
Rashad paired with Sammy White and the duo was great for many years in Minnesota

4:51 That's the same guy who patted Hank Aaron on the back when he hit 715 earlier that year. He really got around.

No he wasn't. He was an average-inconsistent quarterback at best.
Good game but man those player introductions were trippy.
Yeah, especially J.D. Hill 🤪😳

Safe to say there's no need for image stabilization on a video of a TV broadcast already using stable cameras.
Wasn't this like the only Raiders loss on MNF, or their first one...snapped some sort of streak they had.

The only time that OJ ever won a game against "Snake" Stabler.
Rich Stadium did not sell out for this game
Thus, WKBW in Buffalo and WOKR in Rochester (now WHAM) could not show it, nor could WJET in Erie
A really stupid, short sighted rule back then
