Kevin picked up his 1989 Audi 200 Avant in Columbus, Ohio. With questionable mileage, hack-job repairs from previous owners, and a load of issues, this car may not have been the best choice to drive all winter.
However, the pros outweigh the cons. This car has a 5 cylinder turbo engine that sings sweet notes of combustion, is equipped with a manual transmission, and has the legendary Audi Quattro drivetrain.
Follow along with the winter struggle as as Kevin ignores warning lights and takes the alternate route.

Ford bought one of these things to see how they could make the Taurus aerodynamic. Millennials have no clue I swear.

Dad drove a 10 year stretch of late 80s and early 90s Audi's keeping them alive in a mechanic bay in Burlington. some times it seemed certain cars just lived on jacks. The 91 200 20v avant wagon was his favorite. When tunned it was a wolf in sheeps clothing. It passed you on the way to the mountain, parked in a spot that you couldn't get to with your outback then pulled you out of the snow bank when you slide off heading home.

  • @redevilrrr

Although this 200 was neglected and obviously mishandled by previous owner, it´s still worth saving and keeping. They are rare, especially the Avant version, also they were fast cars. The 2.2 R5 engine is placed quite near the front bumper, making handling in corners tricky, but with true 4x4 system and big turbo it´s really fun to drive. That engine was also on the later Audi S2 and those were enormously popular with tuners. The 5 cilinder makes a distinctive noise that´s like a favorite track to car fans. These cars like this Audi, the E32 BMW or even those Volvo 850 t5´s are fading away from memories and rotting in scrapyards because they need more money and attention than some run of the mill Honda, but keeping a car like this is like taking care of automotive heritage.

We have an Audi 100 C3 Avant. Basically it has the same exact chassis, but it is FWD and non turbo. I wonder what that car has been through so it is so horribly rusted. Usually these cars' bodies are bulletproof (ours doesn't have even the slightest bit of rust on the undercarriage or fenders, just a bit on the hood and trunk door where is has been hit by somebody). I feel your pain for parts. I have been trying to scavenge for some parts for years now and still haven't found sh*t. Would be glad to see a car like that to be given a new life, especially since they are so rare. Good luck, man!

Now I feel a lot better about my rust-free Porsche 924S for $1,075. Only major problem was a seized water pump. Car would have started but didn't chance it. Lots of other, normal problems for this year and model. I have to admit that I'm starting to love beater cars though.

The gas tank is the same in all the Audi 100/200 quattros, the V8 and the first audi A6 quattro - should not be impossible to find 😉

is it really that rare of a car in USA or whatever they are in? in my country theres probablly like 400 of those listed for sale and you can pull of the gas tank for parts.

As bad as that car is, it is still very, very good. Audi's from that era were on a completely different level.

That is a cool looking Audi! The 5cylinder makes such a nice sound and the quattro is fun on the winter or muddy roads! It is a weird looking car but in a good way!

Yea Audi 200s are some of the hardest cars to find parts for. Hell all those 80s Audi’s. It’s a damn shame. That is definitely a winter beater tho!
