Adopting an Audi 200 Avant, One of the Rarest Wagons Ever Made

- By sheer luck I got the opportunity to bring home a car I had only dreamed of owning, one of the rarest Audis of all time and perhaps the most wagon-y wagon that ever did wagon. Shoutout to Jed for being such a perfect caretaker of this Avant. It couldn't have been in better hands all these years and I hope I can give it a worthy home. Also, thanks to my dad for supporting my antics and providing the muscle to load all those parts.
At the end I linked a great video from another creator so you can learn more about these Avants.

Welcome to the Typ44 owners club. Greetings from Germany :) You should be aware how rare some of those parts are. Even in Germany.
I didn't realize that at the time, but you are correct, some are just impossible to find. I'm grateful to the previous owner for including so many parts. Hopefully they hold me over for a while!
@@justindake if you get to a point where you need something feel free to contact me. I guess some parts are still easier to find here than in the USA 🙏
@@moritz1997me thank you! I really appreciate that. It helps to have someone on the inside 😀
I love this car, for my this is the most beauty wagon ever made.
True True 😁
You keep this going and you'll be paying your bills with this channel. Seriously, you are gonna blow up duderoni.
You bought the car from the right person! He kept in immaculate condition
He really did! And he commuted to work in it 5 days a week!
Damn I wish mine was that mint. Take care of that thing man, what a treasure!
Thank you! It isn't perfect, but that just means it can be driven without worry. Still won't be parking near any shopping cars though!
I owned one in 2008 when i was 18 years old... i had no idea what i had at the time. I had no internet to research it on - just saw it in the classifides for cheap and had to take it home. i wish i had never sold it!
You'll love driving it . they are beautiful on the highway and the 5 sp is so nice, and the 5cyl is wonderful, and they can easily be chipped to produce over 200hp.
With my 5000 quattro avant i found it looked somewhat under tired so I bought 1/2" wider rims and went up 1 or 2 sizes on the width of the tires. (It's been so long now that I've forgotten the sizes but it's easy enough to figure out. The rear tires were rubbing the body work ever so slightly so I had a body man slightly stretch the rear fenders out, almost not noticeable. The car looked good and I had a lot of compliments.
That sounds like a sharp build! I'm looking forward to mine. It's still on the back burner but I have the stock wheels off my A4 ready to go on it, they are 17s and they might require a little roll like yours did. The previous owner did give me a tuned ECU as well which I'm sure will make it on there soon after it's driving 😆
I purchased an 89 last year, and now I love it! I think it's the best wagon ever made. After doing a decent amount of work on it, I've learned quite a bit. Not all easy, but it's pretty robust. Looking forward to seeing more about it!
Awesome! Congrats on finding one. That's something I've noticed too, they always did what they thought was the longest lasting solution even if it made a component more complicated. Seems like a good attitude considering how many of these are still going. I should have another video out on it before long.
Amazing car, amazing content. Thats one of a catch with all the extras!
I know what you mean. I sold my 89 AVANT to an older gentleman restoring his AVANT he purchased new. I cried a bit seeing it driving away. But it lives on in his cherished AVANT. Audi 5 cylinder, best engine ever.
It's hard to let things go, but it's good knowing it will help keep another on the road. Sounds like you had a lot of good memories with it too.
Always wanted a 200 Avant but here in México I guess will be impossible to find one, good luck wirh yours amigo!!
The 20v 5c. Turbo Quattro Variant of the 200 avant was the rare one. 149 of them were imported to North America including the Canadian market. Only way to pick them apart by eye is flared detail to the wheel wells to hold bigger tires and it came out of the factory with no rear badging other then the Quattro in the defroster script.
What a gold mine!! So many parts and goodies😳 I've never even heard of this car, really interesting car, such a cool find. Really nice road trip vibe in this video. Top job on the voice overs too. Really enjoyed the watch.
Thank you! I really appreciate your support and I'm glad you liked it. I hope I never need most of these parts but I'm glad to have them if I do.
I have one of these cars, Just starting to learn of how rare it seems to be. Thank you for the information
Very cool never see these anymore even in the Southwest Las Vegas Nevada
Hello and congratulations on your Audi 200 Avant. I found your video and I have to say that I had the same thoughts when I bought the same car a few years ago. And yes, it's an Avant too! My Audi 200 Avant is from 1985 and this version is rarer to find than an unicorn! I am absolutely thrilled with this car, although it will never win a beauty award. My family's reactions have been similar to your mother's. Nobody really understands this car, but I still like it because it's so different. And it's great fun to drive with it! I would be happy if we could exchange ideas, there are not many who share this hobby. I am looking forward to your answer! Many greetings, Christian from Germany
That's awesome! Congrats! These strange Audis are something "normal" people tend to overlook. I think in a couple more years as 90s cars become less common these will stand out more. You should make a video to show us yours!
What a beauty!
Отличный авто и превосходная работа! Сам любитель Ауди, старых автомобилей, владею ауди v8 1994года, форд Аэростар 1991года, jeep чероки 1994года
I took the engine from a 5000 avant, EFI'd it, and out it in my 80q. I love these things! Good luck with it!
I love you!! As an ex 200 owner. 200 20V stage 2 turbo
great car and an even better engine
I hope there will be many videos on this beautiful avant , new subscriber earned ;)
Thank you so much! I'm glad you enjoyed it. I think it's a really special car.
I’ve owned a 91 200 20v avant- for well over a decade. Recently I sold it to a good friend. I miss it.. it was/is a great vehicle it has between 400 and 500 thousand miles and still runs like a champ. I also owned a ten valve (like yours). In my experience, without question, the 20v was more reliable and easier to work on (fuel system in particular). Plus, it had noticeably more ‘sporting intentions’ Regardless, these old avants are awesome! I hope you’re enjoying yours. Great video!
Thanks for the comment! Sounds like yours was a bulletproof example. Funny enough, someone just listed a 1991 200 Avant on Bring a Trailer earlier today. I've driven a 91 200 Sedan and I agree you can definitely tell a difference on power, and I've heard reliability went way up as well. Thanks for the comment, there should be an update on mine coming soon.
Can’t wait for the update. Great job. Keep it coming!

This wagon is epic!
Thanks man! Have to sort of pinch myself every time I see it in the garage. Hopefully it's up and going soon
Really great find! I am one of the wagon fan base and owned a 2005 B7 Avant from day 1 to its first death. (Resurrected by an Audi mechanic.)
I just bought a used B9 S5 Fastback which has some of the function of a wagon. Again, personality + with your 200 Avant. I’ll be watching!
Thanks for watching! I've never understood why wagons weren't more popular in the States. All the practicality you could need with a smaller form factor than an SUV. Of course with crossovers now I feel the days of the wagon may be numbered.
Congrats! I just bought it’s twin but with a 20v turbo engine. Looking forward to some new content!
That's awesome! Congratulations! I've heard a lot about the 20v. You're going to love it
i have audi 100 c3 avant it has original 2.5tdi and the sound of it ahhh i love audi engines such a good motor even 2.2L is such a nice motor
welcome to the club :) have some fun with the CIS system
Thank you! I'm excited to hold onto my optimism for as long as possible 😆
Car Addiction! Keep us updated on the 200!
Some might call it hoarding!
@@justindake I have a "few" vehicles also. Some of my family members call it hoarding. Someday, I'll have a shop like yours so I can work on vehicles indoors.
Yes you will. What's in your collection?

Updates on this car!?
Subscribed for the Avant!
I'm glad you like it!
Love the Fox!
Wow. I've never heard of the 200 Avant. I love it. Congratulations! Are you planning to give it a name?
Thank you! I'm happy I could introduce you to it. I'm of the mind that car names should come from other people, do you have anything in mind?
@@justindake I was thinking possibly Jezza, Clive, Viraat or Aquiles? Feel free to shoot me down here.
@@MaelstromMephistoPEM I like those and I like one the best. Aquiles it is!
@@justindake Yesss. Thanks! :)
I have the same car nearly, a '91 (last production year) 2-litre. In Europe we didn't get those huge fenders like the US cars, and the trim and interior is a bit different. Excellent wagons and ageing well 😛
That's awesome! I love that these are being kept alive all over the world. They will only get more unique looking as time goes on.
that's what I would call a treasure ! :)
the 20v one is even more rare. I had the sedan 200 20v.
The german Delorean. Actually, try finding a car with less air drag. They exist but they are even uglier:) That’s why it looks like they, German technical evolution. I had a 1987 Audi 200 Turbo Quattro Avant, with the 10 V 5 cyl. Pearl-white, leathered power seat, AC. I used it as a student, it was a great winter car with the Quattro system. It felt like it was glued to the road when driving aggressive. My dad later used the car for hauling timber because it had vacuum accurated diff lock and very strong in the bottom end, good torque. He reversed with with the trailers brakes frozen, the car didn’t care. Greetings from the north of Sweden
3B joy but parts tracking will become a lifestyle. I miss my type 44.
Maybe another will be in the cards one day!
Looking for anyone who knows a lot about these cars mechanically , been working on one of these with a buddy and the clutch pedal broke and is completely dead, needs help coming back up and was wondering if it was like a master cylinder or some other pivot arm and if was very work extensive, I’m not scared either way I just need to know how to go about ot
I live in the UK and when I drive to my uncle's house I frequently pass one, Its Silver IIRC. Apparently, all UK spec 200 Avants are 2.1 Turbo Quattro's with a manual gearbox, Apparently 42 survive with only 4 currently road legal.
42! That's incredible. Leave them your number! I love that something that seems so normal at the time is now so rare. I didn't know about the 2.1 until your post here. When I looked it up, the site listed 19 different engines between all of the different C3 models. That makes me wonder if there are any left of some of the variations.
@@justindake I wish, the last one for sale was £6,995 (that I could find from 2016) so its a bit of a dream on moment. And the fact I haven't got my licence yet.
You never know! When I was 16 there was a Volvo P1800 sitting behind a guy's house. I always told myself I'd go ask about it but the time I decided to, it was gone. You can't kick yourself for trying but you can for not trying.
I know an Audi specialist in Britain that has 2 Audi 200 20v saloons. Rare as hen's teeth.
It's funny, those are incredibly rare and one came up for sale locally about a month ago. The seller is too high on their price and it's out of my budget anyway, but I did get to drive it and it was a pretty cool experience. Just seeing the engine was pretty cool knowing how legendary they are.
@@justindake He say's that he'll get round to fixing them one day but it won't happen because he's so busy. They're both complete and with a good enough offer he would probably part with them.
What engine options came with the 1990 200 Quattro avant?
I'm pretty sure it was just the 10 valve 5 cylinder 2.2 liter in the US. Europe may have gotten something different
@@justindake 5 cyl 10 and 20 valve in any case. I remember engines of 136, 165, 180 HP with 10V and 220HP with 20V - at least in Germany.
Hey, nice video. I also have one, 20v turbo :)
Thanks glad you liked it! Love to see another wagon out there.
Parts reveal?
If you want another 1990 avant I have one for sale with the original wheels. And yes it runs. Just a speedo issue, comes and goes.
That's certainly possible, where is it listed? Please contact me through my channel's about page.
I have a 5000 cs turbo quattro, 2.2 10v 1986 ac radiator is gone bad. Do you have an extra one i could buy?
Thanks for the compliments! I don't know what it looks like to look for it, but if I have one we could go from there. Let's get in touch. Do you have Instagram?
@@justindake yes it's peternaaman thank you!!!
I have two of these in the same color, both 20 valves
Nice! Hold onto them as long as you can!
. Sehr good
What are these worth just picked one up ?
Congrats! I've watched them for years now and It really depends where you are and what shape it's in. No rust and generally kept in running condition over the years is $5-10k with the higher end more likely in the PNW, CA, or CO. $12-15k for a nearly mint example. Rougher cars or projects you'd be at $5k or less.
I've got MK1 Fiesta parts... lol...., and a few Audi parts....
Hello there sir I have a 1990 Audi 200 Quattro wagon project with the sport black leather interior it is a prior salvage Washington state car
I have owned the car for 8 years or so but due to my circumstances and to many projects I must part with it
I have put 60 or 70k on the car
It has a custom trailer hitch built by me I have lots of spares please contact me if interested
Btw love your channel and all of your other cars!!
Ps this car currently runs and drives and is registered in TX and is silver
I’ve been 50 50 on parting it or selling as a whole but I want it to go to a fellow enthusiast
Hope to hear from you soon
I just saw this! Can you reach out to me through the email on my channel's about page? If it's out of my budget, I'm sure I could help find it a good home.
My father has audi 200 20v 2.2l 5cyl avant quattro
Keep that beauty in the family at all costs!
Not weird beautiful
