Great job Tom really appreciate this video. Oh, by the way our new New Aire 3543 bedroom slide motor had all four bolts loose. Thanks again and see you at the next rally.
Interesting that this popped up again. The whole problem was caused when Newmar called out the wrong torque for those bolts. The reason they keep coming loose is because the threads were at least partially striped during assembly. One outher note after installing with Loctite do not move the bolt (after it is torqued) you are breaking the Loctite loose.
It's Loosen not unloosen(that would be tightening. Lol😊 Great video What year was this an issue. Our Dutch Star is a 2003 and the motor looks similar but is way easier to get to. Is this a problem with all years or just newerones. Thanks for posting, great video.
Tom, are you able to get that torque wrench onto ALL those bolts? Seems like last time I couldn't get even a small ratchet onto some of them, let alone a longer torque wrench. BTW...GREAT video!
We check to the torque on the bolts that we can but that is few. Once you do torque the bolt to 30Ft. you repeat the same pull that you used on the the ones you did use a torque wrench. The problem isn't the use of a torque wrench it is the lack of no Lock-tight on the bolts, the bolts aren't long enough to use all the threads in the motor and not have a locking nut also with Lock-tight on the bolts.
No we only used the torque wrench once to get the feel of what 30ft. lbs. felt like because as you have found there just isn't enough space. Can get some of the bottom bolts with the torque wrench. The use of a torque wrench at Newmar isn't the problem. The problem is no or only one drop of Lock-tight when there should have it on all the treads, the bolt not long enough to go all the way into the motor and not using a locking nut on the bolts/studs of the motor.
We just did the Newmar Factory Tour to watch our 24' Mountain Aire 4118 go through production and I took photos of the bedroom slide motor just because of this issue. From my photos it looks like it is the same motor/set up as Tom covered in the video. The only way to tell if anything has changed would be to remove one of the bolts and 1. see how hard it is to remove 2. check the tightness of the bolts, or/and 3. when you remove a bolt look for thread-lock on the threads.
Well I guess I should eat my own words but this was just addressed in iRV2 (search for new thread "Lunch with the Newmar President". It looks like the issue has been fixed going forward with 23/24 models. I will check mine next month to confirm...
It is almost impossible to get to the top bolts but the setting would be 28 to 30 ft. lbs. It is aluminum case so don't torque as much as a 1/2 ratchet would allow you to do. We use a electric 3/8 ratchet that is set for 30 lbs. Much easier job if you have a 3/8 electric ratchet.

Thank you for the great video! I appreicate it! Safe travels!

Do you have a fox for the Newmar locking arms up top inside the coach? Thanks
What is the torque to set the bolts at when reassembling? Thank you.
Tom’s reply to an earlier post of this question was 25 ft/lb.
30ft.

Excellent. Thanks for sharing.

I believe you said that there is nothing to check on the full wall slide or the big scary slide as I call it. No bolts to check? I have a 2021. 4081
At this time nothing to check other then for leaks and loose items. Haven't found anything on LA in first 4 years.
Will have slide out motor bolts on the bedroom slide and Kitchen
Has Newmar addressed this issue on the newer coaches?

Thanks. Good info
What is the torque to tighten to? Thanks!
25 ft lb
@@tomchelbana7539 Thank you sir.
Nope that was not it. The bottom of the slide appears to move about an inch or so and I can push it in and out.
What is the torch wrench settings? How many foot lbs?
