    Great video Matt. I'm so glad you're enjoying it.The Boost is actually 13.6 psi and we tuned at a solid 12 to 1 AF. I would like to change the trans fluid, I have a secret combination of fluid we've had very good luck with and makes the trans slicker. Most of the whine you hear is from the cog belt, the blower is actually pretty quiet.
    Look forward to a future venture and thanks so much for steering your fans to our channel. :) I'm so happy you like it.

    Why are some people making a big deal that Matt is whining about some of the things he wants to change on the s2000. His channel is about being obsessed , his expectation and standard is higher than most when it comes to the things he cares about. Thanks for the upload Matt.

      probably because when Matt widens his areas of content in the channel like honda and mustang content (no offense to the enthusiasts), he opens himself up for a whole new audience that only want him to drool over what they would drool over. they don't understand the original Obsessed Garage concept and content.

    • @adamgriffin

      santrade10 my only criticism is that he chooses the most expensive parts over the better engineered reasonably priced parts. For example, Ohlins over KWs on the AP2, everybody knows the KWs are a better engineered suspension when it comes to the AP series chassis . Seems more for status than the pursuit of perfection IMO, with that said I enjoy the channel for detailing tips rather than choosing the perfect performance part for a specific vehicle

      Because he doesn’t sound like he’s enjoying the build more like it’s a chore that he’s been dreading but can’t put off any longer. There’s plenty of YT content where a guy gets a beater with a ton of work to do but you can tell he’s enjoying the process.

    S2000s have an electronic steering rack, not hydraulic. If you feel like the steering effort is too high, you can remove some caster from the alignment. That will make the wheel easier to turn. In regards to the drone, I have yet to see a full 70mm off the shelf exhaust for the S2000 that doesn't produce some degree of boomy drone. I run a J's Header, T1R resonated test pipe, and a highly modified Invidia Q300. I welded in a larger resonator and cut the megaphone tips off for thicker straight through schedule 40 tips. There are also built in silencers in the mufflers which I cut out as well. The Greddy 70mm Spectrum Elite on my AP2 has these same stupid silencer/restrictor pipes in the muffler, so that is why I just started with the cheaper Invidia to hack up. So 2 mufflers and 2 resonators and there is still a degree of drone, but it is tolerable now. I have BC Stg 2 cams, which doesn't help with noise. The problem is that when you have a head that flows as awesome as the F series do, the impact of that flow is increased noise levels. I hope that helps. I am looking forward to see more updates on this car. Oh and P.S. try a set of quality pads like Carbotech XP8s before making the decision to shell out for big brakes. I think you will be surprised how much of a difference just the pads make will make. Unless of course you just don't want to look at the single piston calipers anymore.

      i have a q300 on my car unmodified i have a really deep tone when accelerating bust once im cruising its quiet like stock. is this because im still running the stock cat? i mean the s2000 cabin has no real insulation to stop the exhaust sound from coming in i think might be the issue.

    • @EddieCdeejay
      @EddieCdeejay 7 років тому +4

      The Invidia Q300 is think is the best sounding exhaust for the S2000.

    • @TheSlipAngle

      The honeycombs in the cat will eat up some of the noise. A thinner walled header will also increase noise as well.

    Great video. Can't understand why people are complaining. He just got the car back. After every build, you have to dial it in. The whole point of this channel is about perfection. I like that fact that Matt will nit pick at everything. He's saying what he's thinking and how he's going to get it the way he wants it. If the car does not drive or sound the way it does, fix it. That's what Matt is doing and he's just letting us know. Other car videos are just young kids throwing money at their car and thinking it's better. This channel actually tells you the ups and downs of the process of doing something right and the time and attention it needs to get there. Can't wait to see future videos of this car and see the finished product.

      1. Hes running a testpipe. Adding a high-flow cat will help with the noise issue.

    • @thebestnumber1
      @thebestnumber1 7 років тому +8

      Resonators wouldn't really dampen drone, per se. If I were him, I'd stop whining like a little bitch and identify at what RPM range he hears drone. Then weld in some J-pipes that would cancel out that drone (see helmholtz resonator en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Helmholtz_resonance#Applications).

    • @iTroIIin
      @iTroIIin 7 років тому +29

      thebestnumber1 Or he could stop whine more than his supercharger and grow some balls haha. No one buys an S2000 for comfort. They're sports cars.. Should of just got a prius

  • @jboylan95
    @jboylan95 7 років тому +14

    I don't know why I haven't seen anyone comment on this yet, but the drone could very well be due to the changes to the resonator during install. The neck length is one of the key parts to a helmholtz resonator and they added a good 4 inches to the neck. Completely changes the attenuation characteristics.

Within 1000mi. The supercharger kit had multiple failure points. Backing out bolts with locktite, excessive belt wear, so much noise, overheating supercharger unit... etc etc etc. I ended up sending my unit overseas to the manu and they took 6 weeks to tell me that they would not cover the warrant claim. For the drone, obviously a resonator might work (hope and a dream). They also make side branch resonators that work fantastically for some setups. Another thing that adds to drone is sharp turns in an exhaust. If you can turn two 90s into two 45* turns, you'll get less resonance.

    Take note everyone. This is why you spend hours to days researching aftermarket parts and reviews of those parts. You don't want to throw money at parts you think are the best because of how expensive they are. I'm sorry but Toda header + exhaust is a loud combination. The drone might be from the modifications from the exhaust and if it bothers you that much, why didn't you tell LHT to give you a heads up when something didn't fit right? You were there after all. You could have ordered a different exhaust and saved yourself time. LHT did a fantastic job considering they configured your suspension to your liking. I can't believe you didn't know it was going to settle and lower. I would just be glad LHT did the work they did. Most shops would have installed the exhaust without making the mufflers look symmetrical. It sounds like you are trying to blame LHT without coming out and fully saying it.

    So being a fellow Floridian S2000 owner, you're certainly solidifying my desire to go to LHT for this kit! On the exhaust part, I know that one way you can get rid of the drone is to get rid of that test pipe. Go to a High Flow Cat. I'm running the Berk 70mm HFC with Q300 dual. Drone is minimal with that and I get a really nice note out of that combo. Or you could just go back to LHT and do their custom exhaust! Another suggestion before you try the spacers would be to just raise it half an inch to an inch and get a better alignment. On the 3rd gear problem your encountering, that's something I deal with occasionally in mine. I think every few S2000's have this problem and for the most part you just need to be more aware and firm with your shifting. Even then, sometimes it may occasionally jump out of 3rd.
    That car was once supercharged. I worked with the previous owners nephew. So I wouldn't worry about what people are saying about ruining a CR.

    I honestly found this video entertaining, the man has a good speaker voice as well and sounds educated.
    I guess the first few mins were kind of rambly but when he turns on the car and starts driving, that beautiful sound kept me watching.
    PS* Where are you from? Those roads are beauuutiful and i'd love to drive on those, would cruise through them for the whole day.

      "younger demographic" i'm 20 and have followed Matt for a long time now it's got nothing to do with age, there is two kinds of people viewing his videos those of us who are crazy about cars and then the arsewipes, the arsewipes are the problem, not a younger demographic. I'm not being conflicting about your comment in an aggressive manner but younger generations get written off or overlooked because of stereotypes of an extremely small percentage of people and it's not fair, i know a shit tonne more about cars generally speaking than anyone i personally know excluding a workshop owner (family member).

    Some say he whines too much, but I think you could just see it as someone, "who knows what they're looking for". If you're spending that much time and money on a build, wouldn't you be as critical about how your car drives, feels, and looks?

    • @mikesnitzer
      @mikesnitzer 6 років тому +1

      Obviously he is very successful and his attention to detail is likely a significant reason for that success. But his whiney nature would be a lot easier to take if he actually did any of the wrenching himself. New to his videos but it doesn't help that he doesn't seem to know some basic things (in his delivery video where he asked if the IAT sensor is a MAF sensor.. that was telling). Anyway, he clearly has a lot of fun toys and money to burn so I'll likely track his channel over time.

    It's funny (ironic) how this car showed up for sale after you brought the silver(gray) S2000, just when you settle for something, what you really want is around the corner, this one is nice, wish you could have kept both as a collector😬

  • @russandadamsgarage105
    @russandadamsgarage105 7 років тому

    Matt, I'm completely uneducated on the S2000 but here's an idea. If the S2000 is a remote mounted shifter design that might be the reason you keep hitting the shifter "gates" and having issues getting it into gear under load at high RPMs. Stiffer motor or transmission mounts could aid in the misalignment because the transmission is torquing to the side causing the gate not to be where you expect it to be on upshifts. When the shifter is mounted to the body you have these misalignment issues because the shifter and transmission don't move together. -Adam

But I know I'll never will and I just have to settle with being a mechanic working for someone else I hope you continue making detailing videos as it's good to at least watch someone do it... what the hell is that noise towards the end, a high pitch ringing sound , when you pull up to your gate you can hear it clear. i wouldnt worry about the exhaust drone. it's not bad and it's expected. look at the sixe of the car and not to mention it's a convertible. if you silence the exhaust more, then the supercharger will be more in your face. at least the exhaust isn't all the time. right now it's balanced and that's the nature of the beast. the clutch delay valve was a PITA on my white 06. i bought a mint white AP2, dialed it in as you say, and then sold it. i only miss it when i watch videos like yours, then i'm glad i sold it for $25k :) i'm building a house similar to yours, with a lift etc, i'll prob make another channel, not sure what to name it but we will prob end up mentioning each other in videos about cars and detailing, home audio, etc. lots of cars stuff here in austin with the F1 track nearby. could be a business expansion opportunity for ya :) i've got plenty of time to sell your product if you want. let it stew for a while and msg me if you wanna talk.

    I hear you on the drone. It's the biggest non-starter I have for an exhaust. The only exhausts I've found for domestics that have effectively killed the drone, have been Borla ATAKs and Corsas -- they're just so darned loud (you've heard the C5).

    It's the TCS! Not the tires keeping you in line through the corners. If you turn off your traction control, I guarantee that it will get loose in the corners.
