No, the thumbnail is *NOT* a turbocharger. It's the exact same centrifugal supercharger installed in the video (surprising number of comments about this). Also a lot of questions about why I chose to go supercharger vs turbocharger. I've explained the differences and why I chose this route in a video: ua-cam.com/video/UUFf4n0MUq8/v-deo.html.
When there's a 25 min video, and after watching it you feel like 10 minutes have passed. Now THAT, is when you know you've watched something seriously entertaining. Can't wait for the dyno tuning!

I really appreciate that you didn't make us suffer through daily, long-winded, monetized "build" videos like other youtubers do. You focused on the important parts AND made the video entertaining. Kudos to you both. Thanks for avoiding the temptation to flood us with BS just to make money.
Humble Mechanic and a humble engineer. You guys should do a regular joint youtube series. Would really like to see more content featuring both of you. :D
"While you're in there..." - words that can cause panic. I used to have a classic Mini as my daily driver - and I got it with a burned valve. So, the cheapest fix was to get a second hand head and put it on. Job done (in theory, anyway.) However...I figured I may as well buy the big valve head, as it wasn't all _that_ much more. And once the head was off and I was replacing it with one that flows better, it kinda made sense to change the cam (which that was on my to-do list for the future anyway.) But that meant I also needed to change to twin carbs, new intake manifold...re-jetting and synchronizing the carbs...new complete exhaust, manifold to tailpipe, recurve the distributor... $3500 and a week later - and my "burnt valve" was fixed. And those words _still_ give me nightmares. :-D
Had a Honda in the family for 6 years from new, not a single thing had failed. Not the same story for a Ssang Yong, failed like 5 times in the first 6 year lol. Funny comment btw.
Yep all cars fail. Every brand... every model... all of them ever built. Hahaha. More of a VW joke than anything. Because people always tell me I shouldn’t have a VW because Honda’s never break. :)
Each of these steps seems extremely straightforward...but to pull them all off, together, and come out with a functional and impressive modification such as a 100hp+ boost, is nonetheless an achievement. I say this because I am also a mechanical engineer, but my knowledge doesn't extend much past theory - Jason (with the help of an experienced mechanic) *actually* did it! I am impressed and always humbled; actions speak louder than words! Great work Jason and Mr. Humble Mechanic!
I love how extensively detailed this was. It's so nice when install videos list all the tools you'll need and thoroughly detail every step. Great video.
I think guitarfollower22 was assuming it's a V8, which it is. Ford turbocharged the 4 cyl version in the early 80s, of ai recall, and it wasn't very successful. After 2 yrs of going back and forth between supercharger and turbos, I chose turbos for a variety of reasons.
Engineering Explained I don't know? Does 2 yrs going back and forth between supercharging or turbo charging count? Lol. I spent about 2 months going through the boxes of the kit and mocking everything up. Another 3 months on the build itself (granted, only able to do weekends and outside in the Washington weather were factors.)The kit wasn't very good, required a LOT of cutting, bending, deleting, and relocating, and many parts didn't fit together from the same kit. Your kit seems very well done. I think "win" is defined by the lower amount of frustration. Lol
This video is a dream come true! Been waiting for you to force induct the S2000. But whats more, is you and Charles, my 2 favorite people, doubled up on the episode. Amazing content!!!
40 seconds in and I can tell the bearded wonder is a real mechanic. Any experienced tech knows you never assume anything about a build or repair. Famous last words are "oh this will be easy" or "should only take a few minutes".
afrosheenix. Someone asked me to replace the serp belt on his truck, I said no problem, 5 minutes. instant regret! Now anticipating any number of issues lol.
DrewLSsix what's hard is explaining to regular people why you can only ballpark an estimated time frame. Oil, brake and tire changes, no big deal. If you're crawling under a hood for surgery, it's "we'll call you when it's ready".
Hahaha my dad is the worst about this. Working on our own cars or any project his estimate is always "a couple hours". It usually turns into an entire weekend
Well i did jobs like a engine swap on a 88‘ e30 320i in about 5 hours. and i swapped a freaking wiper motor on a 02‘ VW Sharan in a full day. If you haven’t done the job it can be a nightmare or smooth sailing. You never know till you did it once.
You make a good team together, between you both there is a lot of knowledge in theory and practice, we can benefit from all of it which has no price tag, you can't buy the type of knowledge you offer for free
You guys installed a supercharger and made at least 12 trips to the auto store in 24 minutes! I should be able to put one on my SUV during my lunch break! Thank you so much for the inspiration! If I hadn't seen you do it with my own two eyes, I never would have believed it could be done! Ah, there goes the lunch break bell, better get installing. Should be easy, I've got a 45 minute break!! Awesome channel and videos! Thank you for your hard work!!
I've been waiting for this since you posted your first video with the S2k. Makes me real happy to see you do it! Hope to get on your level one of these days
I have to say I have been waiting for this video for quite a while and having Charles out to help on the super charger was the icing on the cake. Both channels are awesome and I look forward to each and everyone of your videos.
Good job on the video editing and the tag team commentary. This is as high quality as watching Horsepower TV or any of these other shows where they are doing installs.
To remove the bottom pulley Get a long braker bar Run it under the car so the frame holds it Disconnect the coil packs Bump the starter It will brake the bolt loss I promise It's a getto impact my boss showed me I thought it was magic xD
I just use a starter button connected directly to starter solenoid (ignition off!) Hold the breaker bar if you can, sometimes when they unload they can spring back and do undesirable things. But I usually do it from the top, underneath it may not be an issue.
You guys are two of the most pleasant car people on youtube and this video was a joy to watch. Jason, you should really go help Charles with one of his many Golfs.
Jason, this was easily one of the most entertaining and informative videos I've watched on your channel. So cool to see a really detailed supercharger DIY on an S2000. Great work, I loved it!
Outstanding video! Your editing and arrow-pointing during the video were well-done and most helpful. The tagteam commentary was helpful and made it easy to listen to. BUT! Jason, you now have added more weight to the nose of your S2000. In order to restore the handling and balance to the car, you must spend oodles of money to replace the entire front in carbon fiber! :-)
Haha, it's actually not all that much added weight. I weighed the entire kit, including all the boxes and such, and it was 60 lbs. That doesn't include the weight that was removed, and there was quite a bit of packaging. So with adding some fluids, I'd guess it adds around 40-45 lbs total.
I love you two together. You know your going to get a thorough and intelligent video when either Jason or Humble are on the screen. It’s great to see this knocked out in one video, can’t wait for the dyno tuning. Of course you should have gone turbo, but no ones perfect! 😆
I love seeing you two have fun while working. I'm sure some frustration was had as is always the norm for car projects, but I truly love watching you guys! Thanks for all 24 mins and 41 secs of this video. :)
I love the fact that you did this I a single video! The two of you make a great team. I am subscribed to both channels. I wish someone made a kit like this for the 2013 VW 2.5 Passat platform. I would love to add some extra power to my daily driver. Keep up the great work!
You use a 3/4 inch for the pulley, make it easier on yourself. Handbrake on and transmission in 6th, and you don't need a pulley holder. The pulley bearings can be replaced. SKF 6203 2RSJEM
Rolando Tillit struck me as odd that they didn't just replace bearings for a cheaper rebuild. May have come down to speed or availability for the short time they had.
Humble Mechanic! My go-to channel for VW questions -- and I always have VW questions. I own two 2012 VW TDIs, a SportWagen (essentially a Mk. VI Golf with a station-wagon body on it) and a Jetta. exactly, totally agree m! I'm pretty sure Jason knows the difference between a supercharger and a turbocharger, especially considering he purchased the item ( or at least received delivery of it)
I’d get a crankcase breather kit as well so you don’t pressurize it when you get up on boost. Oil tends to be hard to clean out of a Honda engine bay. I’ve had plenty of experience with this working on my own cars.
I really like these collab videos with my favorite auto youtubers getting together....I need to see Mr Geese on a EE vid though for an ultimate crossover!
Badass man. You're making quite an iconic example of the last great Japanese sports car. This thing ought to be doing some great quarter mile times if you're getting in the high 200's/low 300's whp range.
I just wanna thank you for the amazing video. I remember asking for a tutorial back when you first bought the supercharger, and you certainly delivered. It was most helpful and the chemistry between you two made sure it was always engaging. BTW, congratulations on the male fuel pump!
So cool that you too could work together on a very meaningful project. Can’t wait for the dyno and driving assessment. Thanks for making and sharing this video. Joel....
Okay, you guys, BRAVO! You nailed the hit on the head (purposely phrased). I felt comfortable that you went to the computer first before you started messing with all the other gobbledygook associated with a superb supercharger system installation. I may even watch it again and take notes! That's just my nature. As far as not going to the parts store, did the kit come with all the articulated hoses, zip ties, and hardware or did some young packrat engineer just happen to have it all stashed away in his shop? In addition, did the parts store find a few rocks and twigs on their shelves? But, sure, the kit is quite inclusive. And, what a beautiful supercharger it is. You guys work well together as a team. Every good mechanic needs an industrious engineer around as a side kick (snicker, snicker). Well played. What a dream shop, and clean engine you had to work with. I'm jealous. Follow the yellow car road. Hmm, strange thing to see a bearded mechanic working with an obvious yuppie city slicker. Yet, I enjoyed the contrast. And, you are so honest to admit that this is not a video for most do-it-yourselfers. But, hey, I like it and I'll return to bug you with some more of my sarc..., err, helpful comments. Jeff
Jason's jokes are getting better every video. Can't wait to see how the s2k sounds when she hits vtec :D Kudos to Charles for sharing the experience that let rest of the world know how the kits works. Cheers to both of you and keep it up! Can't wait to see the next vid

Engineering Explained from the angle hard to tell but nice build!
No Amuse twincharging?
Now you need a hardtop and a new hood.
why not just send the charge air straight to the intercooler?
The secondary water loop just stinks of efficiency losses
Nice alternator!
Good times, a completed job, my dude Jason, and BOOST! 💙
You're the man Charles!!
HumbleMechanic you guys rock!!! You are my VW go to guy and have helped me many times. Jason is awesome too. Got my 11 year old son watchin him now.

I'll fly you out to UK to work on my cars any day... Great vid !!!
How do you superchrge your nap in the thumbnail? I want to know how to sleep faster.

I didn't realize this video is 25 minutes, until I saw this comment. Now that's saying something.
Yeah that was a short 25mins, looking forward to the dyno and subsequent test drive impressions!
Holy crap, that was 25 minutes? :O

I AGREE
I appreciate how thorough Charles is. You don't really see experienced people put that much attention to detail nowadays.
of course I do, I'm just saying there are way too many people out there who don't.
Have a look at LHT performance, and see what attention to detail really means.

4 days. Not bad. 56 days quicker than the twin turbo install on my mustang! Lol
I had the supercharger kit in my garage for about 6-7 months before opening the box haha. So you probably still win?
Guitarfollower22 lol wtf are you talking about
Guitarfollower22 turbocharging doesnt fit the mustang? Mustangs came turbocharged from the factory like 2 decades before a supercharged one did.

You surprised me! It was fun to see Charles working with you on this project. Now if this was only legal in CA.
Charles seems like a really cool dude.
THANKS!
It would've been great to have Eric the car guy also in the build because he was a Honda/Acura tech. Great vid, great job guys!
Coming up on 6 months.. would be great to have an update/review/your impressions so far and where you want to go from here
I’d get a crankcase breather kit as well so you don’t pressurize it when you get up on boost. Oil tends to be hard to clean out of a Honda engine bay. I’ve had plenty of experience with this working on my own cars.
Dat on screen chemistry tho...
I really like these collab videos with my favorite auto youtubers getting together....I need to see Mr Geese on a EE vid though for an ultimate crossover!
"Honda's DON'T fail, Charles!"
Charles knows his stuff...nice video..nicely done👍
Name a more iconic power couple on UA-cam. I'll wait.
Turbo Yoda and mechanical stig
Badass man. You're making quite an iconic example of the last great Japanese sports car. This thing ought to be doing some great quarter mile times if you're getting in the high 200's/low 300's whp range.
“Something you can cut hose with.”
*Pimp hand jolts a bit.*
Watched both of your videos before, respectively; you guys are pretty entertaining together. A great idea!
That car will be in Fast And Furious 9!
My dream hahaha
More like the slow and curious
Honda VTEC-The best engine ever! So efficient and so much power !
You guys made that crank bolt look easy.. lol
Haha, it was not! Broke a tool, we stripped some of the head of the bolt off, but finally managed with the method shown in the video.
I just wanna thank you for the amazing video. I remember asking for a tutorial back when you first bought the supercharger, and you certainly delivered. It was most helpful and the chemistry between you two made sure it was always engaging. BTW, congratulations on the male fuel pump!
“That’s how a real man does it!”.....”Aoowwwwww” 😂😂😂 love it!
And the next cut explains how they ruined the head of the crank pully bolt.
So cool that you too could work together on a very meaningful project. Can’t wait for the dyno and driving assessment. Thanks for making and sharing this video. Joel....
Thanks Joel, glad you enjoyed it! It’s going on the dyno this week so I should have a video on that soon!
There's a nice s2000 in Spokane for 10k. 140k miles silver with a hard top. I wish I had a place to store it.
grin and bear it - did you see '07 at Northtown Auto Liquidators? It only has 42,000 miles!!
Yooo! Fellow spokanite!!
Whats up Spocompton
Okay, you guys, BRAVO! You nailed the hit on the head (purposely phrased). I felt comfortable that you went to the computer first before you started messing with all the other gobbledygook associated with a superb supercharger system installation. I may even watch it again and take notes! That's just my nature.
As far as not going to the parts store, did the kit come with all the articulated hoses, zip ties, and hardware or did some young packrat engineer just happen to have it all stashed away in his shop? In addition, did the parts store find a few rocks and twigs on their shelves? But,
sure, the kit is quite inclusive.
Jeff
"It's a boy!" I lost containment.
Jason's jokes are getting better every video. Can't wait to see how the s2k sounds when she hits vtec :D Kudos to Charles for sharing the experience that let rest of the world know how the kits works. Cheers to both of you and keep it up! Can't wait to see the next vid
