A very strong year. To me, it is Finland and France that stand out with the French song being one of my all-time favourite entries in the whole history of ESC. The build up in instrumentation, the way they played with the words so that one set of verses ends in a word with which the next set of verses starts, the subtle and clever use of backing vocals. And then towards the end of the song the most beautiful combination of lyrics and music happens. As Marie delivers one of the most powerful messages in ESC, with the instrumentation at its peak, by singing "Pays d'amour n'a pas de frontière pour ceux qui ont un cœur d'enfant" (this roughly translates to "Lands of love have no boundaries when one has the heart of a child"), the music then suddenly stops and you can only hear the sound of a beating heart in the background as Marie goes back to sing the verses with which the song started and then continues for one more grand final chorus. This gives me the shivers every time. France 1977 - sending you lots of love from Croatia! This song is something special.
Probably my favorite year of the 20th century, I find enjoyment in (almost) all of the songs and there are some songs in here that I absolutely adore, especially my top 2! My top 5 is: 1 France 2 Switzerland 3 Finland 4 Luxembourg 5 UK
I completely forgot about Greece when I was doing my prediction, but at least I got 2/3 right. 🥳As always great taste and very informative reviews. It's nice to read a review from somebody who knows what they are talking about. I appreciate the time and effort that you put into these videos. Looking forward to 1978, we already know what will happen to A-ba-ni-bi. And of course, the winner is quite predictable as it's one of your all-time favorites, but I'm not gonna spoil it for others, just in case. 😅
For me, 1977 was a step down from the brilliantness of 1975 and 1976, however there are a few gems. Totally agree with your two top picks, both are entries I love to return to. Would probably put Israel's entry as my third, though. Thanks for a great youtube channel and for all work you're putting up. 🎉
Certainly a much interesting year, where we come back to the language rule. I like this year more than 1976. Your top 5 is really great! Mine is: 5. Israel 4. Switzerland 3. France 2. Finland 1. UK (In my top 50 favorites of all time. I just love the irony of the lyrics of this song! ❤ Take care, kära vän!
Great ranking and video, as always! There are quite a few catchy earworms from this year. My personal favorite is Luxembourg - it can be a bit off-putting, but it still sounds pretty fresh with its groovy arrangement!
Hi ^^ This is probably one of the Years where the Watchalongs had the biggest Impact on me. Honestly an incredible edition. My Top 5: 1. Switzerland Definitely the Masterpiece of the year for me, and also easily among my Top 3 from this country. Swiss Lady might be one of the most charming entries I have ever watched. I also love the lyrics of this one, it makes the Song just a Ton of Fun (the Performers certainly also do a brilliant Job here). And finally what impresses me the most is how perfectly they managed to arrange an Iconic Alpine entry here. From the Alphorne to the Yodeling everything in the arrangement just fits. This Song and the Performers never lost their charme, there is a Performance from 2019 and those guys where still as engaged and great like 42 Years ago. 2. UK Some people might consider this Song to be repetitive. But its absolutely works. The way how those 2 performers deliver the story telling is impressive. Both are so charismatic. The Piano- Rock like influence certainly also helps to make this entry stand out 3. Finland Never had heard that song before, but damn it slaps so hard. The chorus is beyond catchy and powerful. And she sells this song perfectly despite the fact that she had been sick back then 4. France The only winner from them I can stand behind, this song just is incredibly touching. 5. Austria I always loved this one for how silly it is, it doe not even try to be great. And for some reason those guys still manage to be
Thank you for putting Boom Boom Boomerang high - it's a fun performance..Being anti capitalist has never been so much fun. Also nice to see Greece and Switzerland so high - I love those songs.
This was such a weak year imo, and still it gave us one of the three best winners in ESC history I like some others too like Monaco and Finland, but to me in this year doesn't go much further than L'oiseau et l'enfant (in my top 5 favourite ESC songs ever) and Rock Bottom which is a very valid personal winner!

same 1, also my favorite ever ESC song
Great video as always, but Switzerland and Greece higher than France is a crime against humanity. And Spain is so low... 😢
My prediction for the top 3: UK, Switzerland, and Finland (that's pretty much my top 3😅) The UK in particular is just so good this year.
Having Austria all the way up there is certainly a wacky take Groot 😂
Thank you for putting Boom Boom Boomerang high - it's a fun performance..Being anti capitalist has never been so much fun. Also nice to see Greece and Switzerland so high - I love those songs.
That is interesting. Honestly.as a UK viewer. Rock Bottom is just one of those songs that I never, ever, want to listen to again

And then we have 1978. Norway from last to first😂
Rock bottom would obviously be my last place. Rarely has an entry been so honest about its own limitations.
Perhaps you should sit this one out, Mr. A 😉
I wouldn't miss it for the world.😊
