I can’t believe we finally found Babish’s limits was the use of deer stock and not a random adventure to a cacao farm
This was my main takeaway from the video as well
Yeah that was all I could focus on 😅
In fairness the only way you are going to get that is if you have a bunch of deer bones laying around.
@@FellsApprentice dude he's literally done the every meat burrito
I hooed his lines were drawn at endorsing fascists. I was wrong.
Frank's reaction when he was presented with the rabbit is GOLDEN every time.
really did make my day!
@@charliemalick8985 I don’t think you’ve been in franks position before though
The word flabbergasted is what I’d use
I'm not sure how it isn't a reaction GIF being spammed everywhere
@@alienkinkvr unfortunately most Americans (Republicans) still have a massive problem with LGBTQ+ folks so I would imagine that's why it isn't making the rounds
He won't mess with Bambi, but Thumper is fair game.😄
That episode of the last of us was so beautiful I cried my eyes out. Delicious looking dish too!
Just a little detail that I'm sure was overlooked, Bill held the bottle of wine by the bottom, with the label facing the person you were pouring for. Perfect.
I noticed this aswell. Perhaps he had a job in the i restaurant industry and it's just a habit?
Yeah there’s actually a really cool symbolism done with that, though I don’t know if it was intentional or not. At the first meal with Frank he pours with the label facing up, hand on the bottom in a very proper way. He pours like he’s serving a guest, which he is. But in their dinner at the end of the episode, he pours it much more casually, because Frank is no longer a guest, he’s family and family doesn’t require the formality.
That seemed very intentional to me!
@@Andrew-yq4vb I believe he was designed to be more cultured than the audience initially gave him credit for.
He's a prepper, usually someone who is considered unhinged and uncivilised. Over the course of the flashbacks we learn that he is resourceful and intelligent. When we meet frank, we see that he also is sensitive and cultured.
The whole character is designed to subvert your expectations, and his sexuality is the final point that drives his characterisation home - don't judge a book by its cover.
I wouldn’t be surprised if that was a character choice by Nick Offerman
7:41 Coming from someone in the wine industry, the use of a different wine box to hold all different kinds of wine varietals is extremely accurate, LOL.
It’s honestly my favorite part of getting a box of wine to see what fun box it comes in lol
And like... Gamay is such an underrated grape
I’m not in the wine industry and I do the same at total wine
@@evandepaolo6917 This is true and that particular vintner's Beaujolais is cheap at around $10 a bottle so I end buying a lot of it.
For real, back when I was a taste guide, I had everything shoved in whatever box lol mostly I used the sparkling wine boxes, they were large and could fit all the other sizes hhahaha
I also noticed the case of caymus, but he knew what he was doing, he knew the caymus would hold and be better aged. So he was drinking the Beaujolais first cus it doesn't age as well as a napa cab.
I can't imagine what Frank was expecting but if I was trapped in a hole and a man with a gun reluctantly agreed to feed me I would have been expecting a can of peaches or something.
Or some horded military MREs...
I suspect if it were year one, that's exactly what Bill would have given him...
Gives another clue into Bill's personality that he went through all that effort to impress Frank even if it ws subconsciousl
That’s Holes, lol
Seeing how much time goes into making this dish makes Bill and Frank's final day even more sad and romantic
There was a very sober paralle.
In the first scene Frank was starving and ate as much as he could until he was stuffed, still wanting to eat more, but physically couldn't
In the last scene, Frank could no longer digest solid food by that point due to his illness, and the plate did show signs of being eaten, it was clear that Frank couldn't eat anymore of the diner even though he wanted to.
@spoop ball i didnt notice that 🥲😭
Irs not sad its gross
@@danielmorris7648 rabbit is delicious

This is probably my favorite thing that babish has made so far. Just the way the dish looks is food for the eyes. It's amazing
Frank's reaction when he was presented with the rabbit is GOLDEN every time
even thinking about eating mushrooms in the world of TLOU is insane
Only because of superstitions, though. Anyone educated would know there would be no greater danger to eating them after the mutation. If anything, it's yet another characterization of Bill being a lot more clever than most people would give a man like that credit for.
I once saw a person on a TLOU Reddit fantasize about what it would be like to eat cordyceps. Something which seems like an inherently bad idea
My grandfather grew up in the depression and was fed rabbit, which he loved. When he met my grandmother he took her to his parents house where they had hasenpfeffer. My grandmother loved the stew and on the way home asked what was the meat. She was not happy, but hey she married him in the end.
Thanks for that mini lesson on removing the bones it was great. Loved that episode and had a feeling the food might show up. Animes have been crazy with meals also, can't wait to see some of that camp fire cooking. We gonna have so much content to watch!!
"One of God's cuddly edibles" 😂😂😂 GOLDEN!!!
I wanna see an Alice in Wonderland special or maybe even a pirate's of the Caribbean special there's so many different dishes throughout those movie series

@@patrickhalliday8220 okay go watch those morons
I'm guessing that Disney would take issue with that.
Yes
Delicious long pork.
I was blown away by how invested I got in Bill and Frank's lives. Now all I want is a Christmas special with them
Apparently there is a 2 hour long cut of bill and frank
@@jasonpham1426 Where do we find that?
Grindr
@@jbonnett1225 talked to a guy who was a set decorator for the show on Reddit, all that was cut was more scenes of bill prepping for the montage, Joel and Ellie exploring his house more, a scene of Joel working on a gun at a work bench apparently
@@rossscarbro4602 That's actually very funny. 😂 That said, I thought Frank and Bill were 2 of the best-acted characters I've literally ever seen on TV. Any excuse to see more of them is fine by me. Nick Offerman is freaking ridiculious.
When he said I know I dont look like the type and the guy says that he does, I wonder if that was an easter egg to one of his previous tv show roles as ron swanson in parks and rec
This looks so tasty! Loved how you paired the dish with Beaujolais!
I knew Babish was gonna do this dish the second I saw the episode.
Me too! I would have been suprised if he didnt. This feels like a very obvious and easy food to recreate compared to other stuff such as... Turturkeykey or the clay roasted HUMAN leg from hannibal.🤣
Toss up between this and the 20 year of can of Chef Boyardee :P
Same!!!
“That’s the cutest f***ing thing I’ve seen in my entire life” *arrow*
That carrot puree looks amazing. Definitely want to try that sometime.
that was so cool Babish, i had no idea you could prepare rabbit as if it was beef or larger game! the ribs were definitely charming; the whole dish was~ thank you for the effort every time, love it (:
Even after the world is over Ron still knows his meats
I see what you did there..
Babishs first episode was Ron's burger and now seven years later we're back
I'm so happy you did the rabbit dish!!! My friends and I are debating trying it ourselves but prepping the rabbit looks intense.
it's not too bad if you've done a modest amount of meat prep before
Perhaps Babish could do the Duke's recipes from RE: Village? It fits the zombie game theme pretty well, I think.
What a fantastic looking meal. Maybe some kind of herb crust could save the rack, or just confit it along with the rest.
I'm sure someone else has pointed this out, but carrot tops are a nice herb/green. If yours aren't too bitter raw, they're nice in salads or as pesto.
Honestly: the green tops from a lot of roof veggies are great. Radish greens are my go-to if I want to include spinach in a dish but dont want the waxy feeling on my teeth (comes from cooking spinach).
They're crispy, lightly peppery, and very satisfying
Glad to see you used the whole rabbit. I have eaten a fair amount of rabbit, as we raised them when i was a kid. And they are fiddly to get the most out of. But key to being a responsible farmer is using everything, and wasting as little as possible.
I was really hoping this dish would make its way onto this show. Love it!
Please make bottomless wings, bottomless muffin tops, and a cream cheese donut stuffed in a roast chicken mentioned in Regular Show episode, "Gut Model"
Not this, if I see any strawberries in the video I'll cry again
My dad once hunted and cooked rabbit for us when I was a kid. Wasn't as fancy as on here, but still a trip down memory lane seeing this today, thank you.
The way you held that garlic when you were cutting the top off had me on edge.
Hahaha...when I was in culinary school, I somehow ended up on rabbit duty and made tiny little rabbit chops...it was adorable and delicious.
That presentation is straight out of Hannibal, I love it.
👀
Say whatever you will about the rest of that show, but plating is always, always, ALWAYS on point. Whether it's the Pinhead inspired sugar quill roast, or even a salad, that show knew how to present.
@@melvinshaw7574 Who says negative things about Hannibal? It’s one of the most adored shows I can think of.
Bill and Frank would approve of this! Maybe not the mushroom part.
Can you make the La-zitt balls from the Harley Quinn Valentines Day special - a vegan version and a non-vegan version?
Disappointed we didn't see Andrew playing some Linda Ronstadt on the piano.
When are you doing the entirety of "The Menu"? Because we al know you have to do it. It would have been perfect for the 10 million subscriber episode.
the second I saw this dish in the show, I hoped you'd make it. So happy to recreate this from this incredible episode
Frenched rabbit rib, jesus christ, Bill went all out
That smile when he gets the rabbit just melts me 😃 😊
Now let's see a version of how they might have prepared the rabbit they stole in episode 6 with some other foraged ingredients and cooked over an open fire.
It's awe-inspiring imagining Frank doing all this in a post-apocalyptic milieu.
edit: I should have written Bill, not Frank*
You mean Bill
Elmur fudd is drooling watching this.
Bugs bunny is too with a stress sweat
Knowing precisely how much work went into this makes it that much more romantic 🤧
I love this! UA-cam is full of how to break down a chicken videos. I know how to break down a chicken and I don't need a celebrity chef to show me how to break down a chicken. But I definitely don't know the anatomy of a rabbit and how to break one down is a great thing to add to my repertoire.
Right?? Could come in handy
Rabbit is one of the most underrrated meats around, i only had it twice but was delicious, shame you cant find it most places

You can find rabbit meat online
I mean, technically you can find it almost everywhere. You just have to be okay with harvesting it yourself.
Ugh I've been going crazy trying to figure out a reputable place to get rabbit from for the past few weeks because I was reminded of the one time my... great aunt? made a rabbit sauce and it was one of the best things I've ever had
You know what I find funny? My local mushroom guy sells cordyceps. it's a tincture, but I could straight up add cordyceps to this dish.
Perhaps as a final garnish...

There's a slight bit of irony using a carrot puree for a rabbit based dish. Is that just me? (Doc?)
Not if you know actual rabbits beyond popular culture. In reality, rabbits don't prefer carrots, as carrots are way too high in sugar for anything but an occasional treat for rabbits. :P
@@Aftershk well no that's what I was getting at mainly lol in pop culture. I heard about that fact too.
That moment Babish makes his viewers cry when you realise this was the first and last meal Bill and Frank shared during their 20 years together.
That is my favorite wine. Got it on a whim after Valentines plans fell through at a local restaurant (snowing at 7pm on holiday and still open) and ended up being a great night 😉
When this episode came out, my first thought was “I can’t for Babish to do this” 😂 this looks amazing!
I've wanted to try rabbit for a long time and this sounds great. This is making me hungry just in time for lunch break!
there was absolutely no reason to be reminded of the heartbreak experienced with episode 3 but here we are learning how to make Bills Rabbit.
Lol was sad to hear "deboning, which you probably didn't come here to learn to do."
I'm here for exactly that reason. My wife made an amazing rabbit stew for our LotR marathon a couple of years ago, and the stew was delicious, but after biting into several bones, I'm convinced she desperately needed a better deboning process to follow. Still, looks delicious - will give this recipe a go sometime too!
Great job making the rabbit. Would it be possible to make another that also calls for cooking a rabbit. 'Louisiana Back-bay Bayou Bunny Bordelaise a la Antoinne' from Looney Tunes 'French Rarebit'.
Andrew, can I ask an honest question...What the heck do bay leaves actually do to a dish? I never notice a difference.
They add a "certain something" to long, slow cooked dishes like soups and stews and meats...
Yeah like the person above said, you want to be using them in really long cooking times, if you make anything in a slow cooker they are great.
