ThredUp is a joke, nobody should sell to them honestly. They reject a ton of stuff and then pay like 20 cents per item, lol. Plus I have bought from them and they mess up on descriptions often. They listed items with the wrong sizes 2x, sent me an item with paint smeared all over the back and that same item they said was a polka dot dress but when I saw it in person it had the overwatch logo, which from a distance in the photo looked like a polka dot. I also got a stained shirt. I have given them too many chances already and no longer waste my time, rather just donate my stuff, tbh.
@@Megan_Truly While I do agree that their original selling/pricing model was predatory, I have tried it again recently and I think it has improved. Not to nitpick, but technically these aren't consignment shops, either. Consignment would entail leaving the items (usually high end clothing, jewelry, art, etc) with the seller and then getting your percentage when the item sells. The item still belongs to you until it sells.

Thrift donation and shopping is HUGE in the US. In fact, so much clothing is donated (as opposed to sold like Shelby did in this video) that giant amounts still get sent to the landfill or hopefully to fabric recyclers as you noted. I feel the mindset is changing to buying less and better quality, but it's a slow shift.
On behalf of Angelenos, thank you for making this video! Technically, you could’ve sold and bought back all the items (if you averaged Crossroads selling the items they wanted for $20 each) and it would’ve cost less than $30. Probably what I would’ve done to avoid the awkwardness. 😄

I used to do this back in the 90s way before it was trendy & I used to wear nice dresses & suits. Shops didn’t pay up front, you got your money at the end of the season, you had to make an appointment & they would only take clothes for the upcoming season, not current. They also had to be dry cleaned so if you took them in the dry cleaning bag you had a higher chance of them accepting, but of course it ate into your “profit.” My best selling items were from a chain store called Casual Corner. I loved their office clothes. I couldn’t ditch Coach purses for anything! No one wanted them. Office attire has become way more casual & non existent with WFH, so I just donate what few items I buy now. 😂Having said all of that pointless info., I enjoyed this piece. I guess it brought back memories! 😂😂😂
Shelby! This is a fantastic video! I was thinking about doing one about second hand stores where I live (in Switzerland), and this is a brilliant take! I think I will do a version of your video soon, as I have tons of clothes I have never used! Thank you! Love the video.
There has been a buffalo exchange in Vegas for over 20 years or more but I am not sure about the others. I have shopped furniture consignment the last few month but my apartment is now done. And a couple of thrift stores were I got some nice shot glasses and some matching wine glasses in perfect condition for 50 cents a piece. And I got a heavy duty 17 inch wok in perfect condition for $10 priced on Amazon was anywhere from $60 to $199 . You should do some thrift store videos.
I wish there was a shop around here that would take items and not rip you off completely! Only place around here, Burlington Vermont, is Battery street jeans, but they don't really give you much for your items but turn around and sell them for quite a bit of 💰!! Liked this video idea, very original. Where we live I *think* we only have Buffalo Exchange, they even may have closed down. I know I am constantly realizing things that shut down due to the pandemic and having less business.
We go to Rag o Rama here in Atlanta amd then whatever doesn’t sell we take to Buffalo Exchange. It seems that they don’t like buying a lot at once so there are usually several items that they return. Then we take them back a couple days later with a different employee and get an offer lol
Also to note, since these are trendy consignment stores, yes you can find some gems but you can shop at all the major stores sale section and get a better deal.

@@ShelbyChurch Once you do it online for awhile, you figure it out, the more stuff you have online to sell, the more the chance of selling it, or compare price of the other seller. My Ebay online store, I sell a couple item each month, than before because I have a couple different high end item that matches other high end stuff, that the key to that. Good to see Americans recycling clothing, this will help poor people in some cases and help fabric recycling opportunities too, nice job Shelby 👍❤️🇬🇧
Yes, do you know of similar in London.

So relaxing 💕
Hey Shelby I have a video idea for you: try Shopify dropshipping for a week
Super informative video! Thank you!!!

You should do some thrift store videos.
you always have new video ideas Shelby and that amazes me
Very informative video!!!!
I wish there was a shop around here that would take items and not rip you off completely!
Only place around here, Burlington Vermont, is Battery street jeans, but they don't really give you much for your items but turn around and sell them for quite a bit of 💰!! Lol
Online is the way to go in my opinion!!

Uhhh I needed this video at the beginning of the summerrrrr
very nice and interesting content.
Thank you for uploading.
We really enjoy watching it.
You should have done a platos closet I feel like almost every major city there is one.
I wanted to but they don’t have any in LA!!
@@ShelbyChurch oh wow! I didn’t know that!
Wasteland never took a lot of my stuff but they always paid really good! I brought a Justin Bieber purpose tour long sleeve that I got for pacsun years ago and they gave me $25 for it!
Liked this video idea, very original. Where we live I *think* we only have Buffalo Exchange, they even may have closed down. I know I am constantly realizing things that shut down due to the pandemic and having less business.
I love wasteland!! I sometimes will not even bother going to the mall and will just shop there!
I don’t live in LA I live in Denver but I personally really liked this video I enjoyed watching it and was interesting to see the differences!
I own 3 shirts in total and that's more than enough. Not into thrift shops but I always like watching Shelby's videos.
I live near all three of these & need to declutter so this video could not have been more helpful!!! 🙏🏼
Maybe you could try this again with lower end, more common resale shops like platos closet and stuff. Then we’d have the best inside scoop.
Fab info for us LA sellers - thanks for doing the hustle!
Anyone watching from the UK and can tell me if there is anything like this on this island? :D
NOPE! Was hoping someone could tell me that!
I usually sell my clothes at Plato's closet! I sold some north face and lulu lemon jackets, nike pants, and an express top there!
Loved this, thanks for the informative video! Wish someone would do one for NY: Beacon's, Buffalo, Crossroads, 2nd St... etc. :)
I liked this video! Can you please do one in New York because I want to sell my cloths too but don’t know where is a good one to sell it too here in New York.
I'm moving soon, so this video really helped me with the idea of selling my clothes instead of throwing it out. Thank you!

Love the stuff! Love from a fan!
I've been trying to find spots to sell my clothes and it really does vary! I went to Crossroads and Buffalo Exchange two different times and the max amount of items I've been able to sell is like 5, which is crazy 😂 I've noticed the age demographic of the employees at Buffalo Exchange and Crossroads is generally 18-20 so that def could play into their styles and what they buy. I do really love Wastelands selection but I've never tried selling with them, great video Shelby!! 😊

I’ve sold at all of these stores. Crossroads is my favorite to sell at.
better than getting $4 for 10 clothing items from plato’s closet 💀
Plato’s sells they’re clothes pretty cheap, so that’s probably why.
Platos is the worst!
Awesome! this channel is soooo cool 😅👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

It's funny they give you a cheque and not cash.
That was also my reaction ... where , except in US , can you use such an old fashion method to pay someone ;-)

Is there a limit of items you can take? I'm moving and have a huge box of clothes to sell.
I've heard they are more likely to take items if you bring in less...maybe something else to test
I loved this video! 💖

Some people do it different than just selling to a retail, Like posting your clothes on online on ebay.. some people go that type of retail to buy for cheap than selling it higher on Ebay..
Oh yeah you definitely make more selling it online. It’s more time consuming though
For example a month ago I sold my autograph patrick mahomes sport card, COA for $900. during that time Patrick Mahomes Rookie auto/patch card for sold for 4.3 millions dollars.
