If ever you make it back, I recommend skipping thrifting in NYC proper, and head to New Jersey or Long Island. I know its hard to make it there (no subway) but it's definitely worth it. It can be like a 30 min drive or another train. There are two chains, American Thrift and MyUnique (there is one in the Bronx) which are always amazing and have tag sales every day. BTW, I live in NY and the thrift stores in the city are really picked over and so pricey! I don't even bother.
About those Goodwill bins- those people are often sourcing stuff to create bundles to sell in other countries (like the Caribbean, Central America, South America). For example, they may sell a bundle of women's tops, short sleeve, at a wholesale price, then those people in their country separate them, then sell them individually to people there. Meaning that they're really only searching for certain styles and colors to appeal to those markets; they wouldn't want cashmere sweaters because those would be too hot to wear in a tropical climate, but they would like nice blouses in pretty colors which appeal to a market that likes to dress more colorfully. Which is why I suggest going for at least 3-4 hours at the bins so you can see what's really available, and you can get some really good stuff, not just clothes.
KIM YA GOTTA BE CAREFUL AT THOSE BINS, ANOTHER INFLUENCER SAID THE SAME THING ITS NOT WORTH GETTING HURT OVER, ALSO LOVING THESE NY VIDEOS YOU FIT RIGHT IN STYLE AND ALL❤
Thrifting is the biggest stress reliever ever, I have literally spent hours in some stores, cashier's knew and loved me, giving at least 75% discount at checkout, being an online shopaholic is dangerous as well, my closets can attest, you gotta know fabric, construction of the garment, female friend buys vintage blouses strictly for the buttons sewing them on other clothes
L Train Vintage is a great thrift store in NY! Also, that Goodwill was super curated loll. In Boston, the Goodwills look like Savers; and there are a lot of local thrift stores in the city as well. I enjoyed this video; thanks for sharing your experience!
A note about goodwill and goodwill outlets: They're much cheaper and easier to manage in less major cities. I live in Chicago and go to the goodwill outlet in Gary, Indiana frequently. It's very chill and I find some great stuff there since it's not very picked thru. I think in general it's better to avoid thrift shops in city propers (at least for LA, Chicago, and NYC).
I grew up in LA but never felt at home there -- I was always a New York girl at heart. I spent a few summers in NYC in college, moved there when I graduated, worked in a genetics lab in Soho for 3 years, had friends in every borough, made the best memories of my life. Now im freezing to death in northern Alaska for Veterinary school and even though it's my dream school, I still miss NYC so much it physically hurts. All my best friends and my boyfriend still live there. But luckily that means I visit every few months and now I appreciate it even more! Anyway, this video was lovely, I was so happy to see you thriving and vibing in my favorite place and it made me super excited to visit for thanksgiving! only 2 weeks eeek!
Remember of the time visiting places like Goodwill. A d Bufalo exchange in diwntown San Diego. Of course I renember resucuing stuff @ veterans an the salvation armi. I really loved gertinf awesome deals and accesories Flashback on those deam hunting😉
Where is that one? Having grown up in Manhattan, I have to laugh at what the Goodwill looks like now! But my girls live there now and might enjoy it! It would certainly be cheaper for me!! Where do I send them?? Thanks!
Like: Outfit you are wearing in the first clip and at Bryant Park I don't like curated stores as much either; Too expensive. I like the VV's and the Goodwills Goodwill only looks like that in NYC and LA. I live in Spokane, WA and my local Goodwills don't look like that

$30 for a shirt at Goodwill?!?!?!??! They get their items DONATED --- as in FOR FREE. That's insane. I was thinking that their rent must be astronomical, in New York, no big surprise, BUT I do believe they are a non profit, so they probably get some kind of deal for that. Yikes!!!!!

People fight over bin. I will never vo back. People are to ignorant to behave like adults.
How can u not know how it works in the bins? Don't you watch people's thrift videos?
