TesseracT - Amos Williams - Eden 2.0 - Bass Play Through

  • From TesseracT's 2012 'Perspective' EP, Amos performs a bass play through of 'Eden 2.0'.
    Audio
Really simple signal flow on this one:
Ibanez AFR4 (Both piezo and magnetic pickups at full, bass +3dB, treble at 0)
    D'Addario Pro Steels
    Planet Waves cables
Warwick Hellborg Preamp - all settings at unity
    RME Fireface UFX
    Avid Pro Tools
Waves F6 dynamic EQ - High Q filter at 114Hz -7dB to tame the low end proximity sound (probably needs more notches down there to be honest), octave wide Q cut at 680 of 6dB to force focus on mids, and bass, narrow Q cut at 3.8kHz of -7dB to tame the high end brittle tone of the frets that comes through with high dynamic playing.
Brainworx Vertigo VSC-2 compressor, medium threshold, 3:1 ratio, slow attack, fast release, unity make up gain, creating roughly 4dB of gain reduction.
Original studio session recorded at Sphere Studios, London in 2012 by Francesco Cameli (now of Sphere Studios LA). Oroginal release mixed and mastered by Acle Kahney of 4D Sounds, UK.
    Video
    3 light points
Key - 3200k diffused LED light off screen left
Spot - 6500k diffused LED light off screen top right
Practical - natural dayight through window
Blackmagic Design Pocket Cinema Camera 4k
    Canon FD 28mm 1:2.8 lens
Edited and coloured using Blackmagic Davinci Resolve

On another level. Genius. Finesse. Thunder. Amos is a virtuoso. His playing is smooth as butter and he has a real thump to his slap work, which I'm happy is well mixed in with the rest of the band in all their work. Tesseract is completely original and I am happy that I found them. I first saw them at a Megadeth show - Tesseract opened. I remember being interested in the first couple songs, but couldn't find the groove yet. They played Hexes as their third song. I was awestruck. I suddenly "got it". FYI - I'm a 30-year die-hard Megadeth fan. I listened to Tesseract on the way home from the concert. I have Sonder on repeat ever since it came out. Watched live in lockdown hundreds of times. I can't get enough of them. I hope Dave will forgive me.

There are obviously people who missed the humour here, but for those that don't understand when you perform with a guitar or bass (and/or can't afford a wireless unit/prefer cables) it's professional practice to feed the input cable through the back out to the front between the guitar strap and bottom guitar strap button/lock first then plug into the input jack as apposed to just plugging in straight up, as it can be easy to step on a cable and yank out the lead moving around stage without this loop which keeps the cable behind you to a degree. This loop creates a sort of lock against accidentally pulling your cable out of your instrument (also tidier, especially for top mounted jack inputs like SG style guitars etc)..........obviously though its kind of unnecessary just sat at home and in this case with that crazy jack input angle on the bass Amos has, even without the loop you'd probably snap the male jack shaft before the actual male input jack came out.............

That used to be the case, as it adds a sense of 'reality'. But the piezoelectric pickups add that sound as they work differently to electromagnetic pickups, so I find I don't need to add room sound in. However, there will always be an addition of ambience added. In this case a studio room sound.

    • @josephharvey1762
      @josephharvey1762 4 роки тому

Definitely a drop tuning - the octave shapes in the chorus give it away. (He skips a string but stays on the same fret rather than going two frets up). I know Tesseract plays a lot in drop A, so I'm guessing this is either drop A or drop D.

Does anyone know what tuning this is supposed to be played in? I only found one Tab in B (Amos uses AEDG on his 5 string, no clue about his 4 strings). Also the tab is clearly flawed if I compare it to this video.
