having Jack Irons on drums is absolutely sick! (for those who didn't know) He was a founding member of RHCP and has worked with Pearl Jam and Les Claypool (amongst others)!!
It works for him and for what he wants to do on the bass. It can work in solo context or if the band is a vehicle for you like for instance with Primus.
I think the reason I love his groves so much is because it sounds like he's transcribed and is playing my nonsensical vocalizations that I do when I am alone and he made it badass.
I’ve never in all my years of playing music and listening to non-mainstream stuff heard anything like this. It’s a really unique tone, especially how he does the pop/slap sound w/o using his thumb. That bass is something unique too
@@dmacrolens instead of leaving some snide remark, why don’t you show everyone what you can do and then people can critique your playing. Unless you’re not a musician and don’t have a clue how to create music, in which case you should probably just not say anything and let people think you’re an idiot instead of the alternative.
He’s got the nails for classical/flamenco guitar and the technique looks a lot like that. It’s how I play, thumb on low e and index/middle/ring for a d and g, respectively
I dubbed it The Lobster Claw on one of his videos like 12 years ago and he sometimes uses that in the titles. It's not just a flamenco reuse/mix for the bass, he uses the pointer and middle to do ghost and double notes with extra punch/crunch.
it just goes to show, you don’t have to follow the rules, because there are no rules. Slap on electric bass was invented almost by accident. Now there are four or five different approaches to slap bass technique. If all you ever do is what has already been done before, you will only gained notoriety as an imitator, not an inventor. This guy is a mad scientist 💪🏼
Every time that you upload, there are a few parts in each song that when I hear them, I think: "whoa. I didn't know that the bass could be played like that." You not only have that sense of the funk, but at the same time have this really unique sense of rhythm and timing. Man, it's really impressive.
The bass, the tone, the groove, the jam, the drums, the contrast between the groovy funk parts and the silly slide parts - so much to love in this one video!
At 56, and taking up bass again after 30 year hiatus, I can confidently say I will never be this good. But thanks for continuing to want to make me play! 😏🙏🏻👍✌️
Well, not with that attitude, young man 😂😂😂 You may not play this, but your brain will think of ideas to play that no one else will think of. There's only one of you sir ,embrace it ✌️❤️
That kicked ass. Amazing sound and instrument. I really liked the harmonic notes toward the beginning and how they completed that melody. Couldn't just watch this once. Keep the funk alive!
I'm not a bass player, but wow! Mesmerizing! This music is alive. It has a personality. It's a friend I didn't know I had until I stumbled on this link. Thank you!!
this is how it sounds when you miscalculate the microdose
🤣👌

Oy! that was gonna be my comment! LOL😂

@@roosterqmoney not necessarily; I was a fan of them for a while before I explored their early stuff
that explains why the pocket is so deep that he's finding change
Also the group ELEVEN.
yes Jack makes this badass..kit sounds amazing!!
That right hand technique is worthy of a Berkeley course on its own
i was about to be like who plays a fretless with a guitar finger style... this fucking guy and hes tons better than me.
Aren't there a fuck ton of bass players like that?
@@MeshuggahDave.He probably started on guitar I'd bet.

He's just plucking with his thumb instead of slapping. Basically playing it finger-style like a regular guitar.
You really need to listen to more music then...
@@Raging.Geekazoid you should post a video of you playing and show us how it’s done.

this is why we love fretless bass
As cool as the groove is…

Amazing Bass. How sweet the sound.
I'm obsessed with the tone of this bass. Also this might be my favorite groove of not just fretless bass... not even just bass but of any instrument
Watch the right hand. Superb.
It's rare and glorious to find a unique and original style like this. I'm digging the Remco Man!
I could listen all day.
I hear a little Cliff, a little Les, and a whole lot of Remco.👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼✌🏼

fretless bass with a little bit of chorus has to be the best sound in the world
Everytime Remco uploads, it's always a funky dirty assault on the senses.

The grooviest cat on the tube.
Very entertaining. Holding attention like that with just a bass? Legit
1:10 groove is freaky tasty

As a fretless bassist myself, I can only ever aspire to have as much fluidity as you do. ❤
Thanks, you should go for it though! It took me many, many hours but I got there, so can you. I appreciate your comment, stay fretless and keep at it!
What a spaceship, marvellous !!!
Amazing
That was fantastic! Loved the groove of it all. And it really does have such wonderful tone/sound.
1:30 that melody reminded me of something The Pretty Things would do. Sounds like it could be off Parachute or S.F. Sorrow
What a nice instrument! Well played good sir.
Sounds like what Jaco Pastorius would be doing if he was still here. Very good.
wow very NICE Instrument. Amazing Korpus
