This was very helpful! I"m not a mechanic, nor will I be doing the work on my car, but am happy to be able to understand the potential problems from my check engine light code when talking to the ones who will be doing the hard work. Thank you so much!

I have an '06 4.2L, and just had the engine replaced. It had the P0014 code when I brought it home and the engine started to lurch the next day, even though it had been running like a top. I happened to see on the paperwork from the shop that they had replaced the oil with 10w30, instead of the 5w30 it called for. I followed the advice to replace the oil and the code disappeared along with the lurching of the engine. You just never know. (Note: I had this issue about 6 months back and had also replaced the VVT solenoid, which seemed to help a little.)

So this is why my 04 Trailblazer run so good. It has 177,000 miles and I have never let it gotten lower than one quart of oil. I have gone as long as 9,000 miles without changing the oil but I used full synthetic. After buying a new 2016 F165. I plan to switch to Motorcraft synthetic blend for my next oil change.

I have an 04 GMC envoy, can't find third bolt on power steering pump looked for third bolt through the pump pulley hole and it wasn't there, I know there's a third one. ( Maybe 🤔 covered in grease ). Also in my camshaft silonoid is oil. Oil residue in tail pipe some oil in third cylinder (from front of vehicle). Got a code 300 and a p0014. Gonna replace cam poison silonoid, cam shaft sensor, and map sensor. Then gotta remove all 6 coil packs( which are new) clean out cylinders, change oil filter, clean out exhaust as much as I can do. I bought it like this had check engine light on. Original code s we're cat conv. 02 sensors. Air .thanks for sharing your video👍🙏This gets fixed 🚙💨💨💨💨💨

I would put couple old speaker magnet's on bottom of oil pan. My Grandpa gave my Mom's a 64 Impala station wagon, she fried the engine not checking oil. Put down the iPhone, open the hood!

Nice video, besides no oil, in my opinion the oil life indicator on GMs are allowing too much time between oil changes causing "sludge" to block the screens on the vvt solenoids. I've seen some crazy stuff pull into the garage over the years. One of the funniest was a dad that filled his daughters car tires with 150psi of air(all four) after some kids deflated them at school. Must have taken forever with the tiny emergency pump he used. LOL

Son just picked up an 02 and it has a misfire and the P0014. Looks like I'll be replacing this solenoid soon. Just changed the oil, (wasn't low or anything, but I always change oil and brakes immediately when buying used). Oil change did not clear the code, and it still has the misfire, so that will be next. Hope it will work before any internal damage can happen!

The mech a nic yeah, you were right. It wasn't going to last much longer. Those shavings said it all. I just bought one of these for 2000 dollars. I'm not sure why they would rebuild it, both from the money standpoint, and from the damage standpoint, just my opinion.

    • @themechanic6117
      @themechanic6117  6 років тому

Nice build I like those trucks ,just gotta take care of them like any other car. It made no sense to me either . I'd assume it's cheaper and easier to slap a salvage yard engine in it and call it a day. Maybe the customer was confused on what the shop was going to do.

I liked your video because you got visuals into the areas that needed to be seen if a person wants to do this work themselves. I have seen several others that either do not get the view in the down-and-dirty areas or just skip over, leaving a guy to guess at it as he goes.m The only thing you need to do is detail what were the wrench sizes needed for each bolt and nut removal and replace. THANX!

  • @joshua_lee732

The i6 motor uses 7quarts of oil if it's not reading on the dipstick you have some serious problems. If you only have a quart and a half you need a new motor.

Any oil is better than no or low oil lol. How hard is it to check the oil. Sucks tho cause if they don’t check the oil they sure af ain’t checking fluids anywhere else like transfer case, front and rear differentials, transmission, blinker fluid, coolant, steering, muffler bearings…. Did I miss anything

I have a 2004 Buick Rainer(same as the Trailblazer). Got to watch it if you take these vehicles to Jiffy Lube or some quick place. Why? The typical only put 5 quarts of oil in.
The oil capacity for these are 7 quarts. Happened to my dad at the dealership he bought it from. I saw on at least 2 of his oil changes they only put in 5 quarts.

    • @themechanic6117

This is the most straight forward and easy to follow video I found of this issue so far. Question: I have a 05 TrailBlazer with the P0017 code which is similar. I changed the VVT and the Cam sensor..I’m worried the timing chain skipped. Is there a way to check? Also I haven’t changed the crank sensor and that’s the only other sensor I can think of. Since I bought the truck it’s had this code, they went away when I changed the Sensors. Then started to come off and on months later. Now it stalled, and once I started it, been misfiring/lose of power ever since. (And this engine doesn’t smoke or leak but every month or two it’s down at least a quart or more, sometimes 2.) Any help would be appreciated!

Any ideas? Twice while driving it has stumbled, missed or whatever you want to call it when the vvt code gets thrown and blew the PCM fuse.

Ive had this code for a while can not pass emissions, changed valve but when I noticed that prior to owning it someone spliced the 2 wires to the valve what should a multi meter read at the plug? I have a feeling i have to current to the valve, also maybe i needed a relearn after the valve change? Cant shake this code. Thanks in advance.

i replaced the vvt solenoid when the p0017 code came up, it just started to idle a little rough and i was on it. after i replaced it it really started running rough, stalled and gave me 3 new codes, po300, p014,p0365. I replaced the cam shaft position sensor and that got rid of p0365, spark plugs are next. But why all of a sudden it started running real rough and showing new codes anyone know. its a 2006 chevy trailblazer 6 cylinder
