it's true though, just today I got caught out, thought I was buying real chicken and it turned out to be the crap formed rubbish. when you buy chicken you want chicken. real chicken!
Thank you. I am 62 yrs old, and I really enjoyed this lesson, wish I had seen this 30 years ago. When I was a mom and felt rushed and wrongfully thought I was saving time and trouble by serving store bought chicken nuggets. WOW! WOW! WOW! superb lesson. I am sending this link to my son. Love you Jamie you are a great teacher.
A cook's essensial ability is to feel the time flow. I was really impressed when Jamie said "what have you learned in these last 3 minutes?", checked the video timer and precicely 3 minutes had gone by. That was amazing.
The main thing why people don't cook is that have a look at all the work stations after they have cooked those chicken nuggets. Will be a mess. So it takes 15/20 mins to cook then 15/20 mins to clean and put everything away. Then 15mins to eat. There goes an hour where you have had to be always doing something. Not lazy its just people dont want to spend an hour of their free time cooking and cleaning if they work 12 hour shifts. Main thing to do is buy better quality made chicken nuggets which should be made more affordable to the public.
There should be more seasons of these teaching the world that some students require lessons like these that are direct and useful lessons , and a more intuitive way of teaching them .
He really is a good teacher. He explains things well and I got that scene in mind when they cooked steaks. One was a bit overdone, Jamie said to the young guy, 'I have cooked plenty of bad steaks myself, keep on going and you'll get the hang of it'. Or something like that. The boy's looks were so very thankful, for the encouragement. Great guy!
I studie in one of the best universities of my country and i wish that was true... There are some teachers with a lot of titles, phd's, awards and are the shitties things ever teaching...
Ive disliked jamie oliver for years,., I was wrong ,, after seeing this and his TED talk my mind has changed, I can see what he is doing,., well done, I'm impressed with this guy.
Jamie I live in Georgia in the United States. In home economics in the 60s this is how they taught us to cook. The boys took shop classes and the girls took home ec. Then in the seventies they let girls start taking shop classes. All the girls started making lamps and tables and the girls stopped cooking. I think they should have made cooking mandatory for boys and girls. I love what you are doing for Britain and the US. From one of your biggest fans THANK YOU
this is what i have been looking for. a experienced professional chef/cook, who can teach me how to make sensible but also nutritious and tasty meals at home.
Jaime tries so hard to drive his points home to these kids. They are so lucky to have his dedication and compassion for their well-being. What a guy! He's just become one of my culinary heroes.
Hammer! Habe keinen Bedarf an Ketchup od. ähnlichem gehabt. Der pure, reine Geschmack war völlig ausreichend. Incl. Salat und abwaschen hab ich 15 Minuten für 440 gr Fleisch gebraucht. (2 Pfannen voll) Und das Ergebnis ist fantastisch!
Jamie, awesome. Need more teachers like you! Keep it real, easy to understand, relevant, and making people WANT to try rather than being obligated to follow a strict set of instructions. I like how you take the time to point out tips along the way such as heat control; turn down the heat or remove from the burner.
All I did regarding cookery at school was ice cream milkshakes and fucking cake :/ I wish Jamie had come to my school, there's a good chance I'd be in better shape if I was actually taught anything about food :P
+philxcorexinxurxface Jesus, that's mad, isn't it? :| I'm gonna homeschool my kids if I have any, make sure they know stuff like how to feed themselves. School doesn't (or didn't for me) provide any education on how to live, beyond teaching me how to read. Everything I learned since was through trial and error and off my own back or from my mother. It's tragic how useless schools are with nutrition.
School shouldn't just be academics. How about replacing the French class I was forced to do with a life skills class? I've never had to speak French since leaving school such a useless class to force me to go to. Waste of time.
I'm inclined to agree. I retained absolutely none of the Welsh or French I learned at school coz I live in South Wales where it's not used as standard outside of street signs and greetings in a place of work such as libraries. Languages are awesome but stuff like that should be optional depending on a student's interests and life intentions.
I've watch his cooking shows on and off for years. This man has really evolved. Great teacher with these young adults. I feel like I'm watching the new version of To Sir with Love. His 5 ingredient shows make it easy to make just about anything. I'm a huge fan.
Thumbs up to Jamie and his students. I love the uniforms and ties,,,and the students are so well mannered. I am very impressed, thank you for the video.
Americans are not blind to metrics. I used metrics all throughout school. The country as a whole uses imperial because for whatever reason, a group of people decided it would be a good idea to put everything in imperial and now it's just not realistic to change everything in our country. That would be way too time consuming and costly.
You would only be surprised if you ask Americans what exactly defines an inch or a foot in their beloved imperial system. True in scientific uses and a lot of aviation and marine applications metric is usual (in the industrie it seems to be as well, Car manufacturers use quite a lot of metric bolt sizes). But most Americans do not even now that officially the US have the metric system. They need it to define their imperial units. Starting with the Mendenhall Order it was defined already in 1893 that one meter is equivalent to 39.37 inches. Later (in 1959) it was redefined as one yard beeing 0.9144 meters with a for beeing one third of a yard. And then there are the Survey fot and SPCS83... but thats a whole different story.
Thank you Jamie for helping to teach about healthy eating. The food our children eat is very important to their success in life and also for our own success. I am a teacher, a parent, and I am working on supporting people to improve their daily eating habits. The earth's valuable foods, vegetables and fruits need to be used to make ONLY healthy meals and foods. PEOPLE'S HEALTH NEEDS TO BE EVERYBODY'S PRIORITY when people are cooking, not money, not convenience. When I cook, I make ONLY healthy meals. Healthy mains, healthy desserts and they are all very satisfying. I generally do not have a starter. I adapt EVERY recipe to make it healthier, more nutritious. And we generally drink tap water with all our meals. It would just be a waste of my time and the resources of the planet if I made unhealthy meals and served those up to myself and my family. It would not be helping us to look and feel our best every day. It is just disgusting that SO MANY people have been thinking it OK to waste the earth's resources to produce and sell junk meals every day as their day job. It helps NO ONE! SO many resources are wasted producing, promoting and selling junk meals, it is a real crime to waste the earth's resources in this way and to make so many people ill. People should use their time and the earth's resources more wisely and if they are going to cook they should focus on preparing healthy meals always. People are taking healthy vegetables, eg potatoes, and they are stripping them of their nutrients. They remove the skin, they soak it, they sometimes dehydrate it, they mix it with the cheapest chemical refined salt, the cheapest chemical refined sugar, dodgy chemical powders, additives, then they bleach it then they deep fry it or microwave it. Then they mix it with dodgy chemical sauces like the cheapest ketchups. They start with a healthy potato but on their plates they are ending up with a very unhealthy portion of processed, deep fried chips. And this unhealthy portion of chips is what they are serving up to people in the community every day for breakfast, lunch and dinner in the UK. Then when people get ill, the doctors blame a disease and add toxic drugs to the problems and the situtation gets worse. Then they start asking for money on a daily basis to research the issue and act confused by it all! That is what people have been doing in the UK for decades. It is a crime to strip healthy vegetables of their nutrients to this extent. Maybe people should promote max 1 portion of chips in a day in the West and the portion must cover maximum 1/3 of a dinner plate. This year I have decided to not eat even 1 chip! I live in London and it is not easy as most restaurants serve chips and I enjoy eating them. People are eating chips everywhere! But I will not put even 1 chip into my mouth this year. It is one of my new year's resolutions. It is a personal challenge I have set myself. I will also not eat even one fast food junk meal. I have decided to cook my own meals every day instead as that is the only way I can know what is in my meals and it forces me to cook something for myself every day. I am also not making chips at home. Most days I either boil potatoes or rice and eat that as part of my lunch. Every day I have been preparing a 4 veg salad in the morning and I take it with me to work. It is to help me get plenty of vitamins and fibre and at least half of the veg I am buying is organic. The earth's valuable food resources need to be used to make ONLY healthy meals. PEOPLE'S HEALTH needs to be everybody's priority in the kitchens when people are cooking, not money, not convenience. People need to change their mentality. Also big is NOT better. HEALTHIER IS BETTER. There are MANY things one can do to improve one's diet and lifestyle. These are the things to focus on. In the UK we are bombarded with advertising for junk meals every day. A cheap burger, deep fried chips and a cola are being called a MEAL DEAL and people are encouraged to buy and eat them every day in the UK. IT IS NOT OK. IT IS AN UNHEALTHY MEAL. IT HELPS NO ONE. IT JUST MAKES THE POPULATION ILL. IT IS A WASTE OF MONEY. IT IS NOT A REAL MEAL DEAL BECAUSE IT DOES NOT PROVIDE A PERSON WITH THE NUTRIENTS THEY NEED TO FEEL AND LOOK THEIR BEST. I cannot call the typical burger meal a real meal. IT DOES NOT EVEN HAVE 1 PROPER PORTION OF VEG. IT IS MADE WITH THE CHEAPEST, MOST CHEMICAL REFINED WHITE WHEAT FLOUR IT IS MADE WITH VERY PROCESSED MEAT OF BADLY TREATED ANIMALS IT IS MADE WITH THE CHEAPEST, MOST CHEMICAL, REFINED SUGAR AND SALT IT IS DEEP FRIED IT CONTAINS ADDITIVES IT IS NOT GOOD FOR MY BODY AND BRAIN
So jealous of the opportunity and the setup these guys are offered. Look at those ovens! Thirty years ago, we were lucky to have a decent stove in class.
Jokes aside, most of them actually got food poisoning after, and one kid actually died. It was on the news for a bit but was taken down after James said he'd sue.
I cook for my elderly father almost every night. We eat the same meal. He likes his cooked food served hot, so if there is an accompanying leafy salad that needs to be ready at the same time as the meat....and any included side dishes.....timing is essential. This is not easy...but great practice on the timing of service.
Things that can go wrong....... ~Leafy salad is not prepared, and dressed, while meat is going cold. ~Leafy salad is prepared/dressed too far in advance, and it becomes soggy. ~Cooked side dishes are overcooked, while waiting for main protein (meat) to finish.
You don't have a warmer? If you have hot side dishes, you do those first and leave them in the warmer. Then do the salad, with the dressing separate. They shouldn't be mixed until you're right about to serve. Then you do the main dish. A few minutes before it's ready, you mix the salad and dressing, put the sides on serving plates, or plate them if that's how you serve dishes, and plate the main. What makes cooking difficult is the process. If you have everything prepped and you know what steps to do, it's not difficult at all. Good luck!
Jamie you are a gem and and a king of food.. Hats off man!! Your videos made me well prepared before hand to go and start for the job and cookery schools as well...
it's really nice that a school teaches you how to cook and it could help u to cook and the best thing is that's it really easy and doesn't take a lot if tim
When I went to school in the 70's I was taught how to cook in Home Economics class. I have never bought or made a chicken nugget. We need to bring back the Home Economics to our schools.
+Sepilein1 I know right? I love fresh meat and vegetables, but sometimes, I just want process junk. But at least I knowingly put process junk into my body and not just noshing on them blindly.
we use to make this in the german restaurant I worked at except we use the whole chicken breast not nuggets. Seasoning we add salt pepper LP and mustard
I should've got my facts straight. I didn't believe this was a real "school" environment because of my previous experience in television series for ITV, i've played an extra for seconds and ending up getting paid like £60 for an hour (like a 4second clip lol). Respect to the girl!
I hope you guys know that Jamie Oliver is basically discriminating against people of a lower class by supporting laws that make the kind of food he protests against much harder for people to obtain. This man literally supports laws worldwide that make food HARDER to obtain.
Not to mention that he considers anything he doesn't use (EX: parts of chickens besides drums, wings, and breasts.) as "Dirty", therefore showing how he basically dislikes people of a lower class.
The real cost of making DIY nugget is that in the twenty minutes that you're waiting for a prepacked nugget to cook itself in the oven, you could have been watching TV or doing something else. With the DIY nugget, that fifteen minutes are time that you need to put all your attention on. Also, if you don't have dishwasher, it's more cleanup; the chopping board, knives, etc. Good thing is that he used plastic bags to mix the ingredients, you can just throw the bags away afterwards.
I started watching a lot of Iron Chef America, Cut Throat Kitchen, and Chopped on Netflix about 5-6 months ago. I thought it was easy and the people just ran around a lot. Boy, was I wrong. There's many skills to be learned and mastered for just even a handful of meals. I used to be just like you, even using paper plates at home to avoid dishes but it's all changed. I became interested in cooking, making sure I was properly taking care of knives, knowing how flavors changed under different circumstances, and even being risky sometimes where I cook and plate food as well as I can for a few loved ones. They think I've read some book of culinary secrets because they keep asking for more. The dishes at the end of the day are just the aftermath of the fun. Try it sometime, be risky and even try something you might think you'll have a hard time doing, you might surprise yourself:)
Thank you so much for sharing this idea! I made nuggets with my almost 4 years old girl using this zip bag method, we had so much fun! Love it, thank you!
I agree but, these are kids are 15yrs old, they`re just trying to make an identity for themselves, We all tried that at their age..give our kids a break for once...
OK, before you start hating my comment, hear me out: The thing is...it's neither faster nor easier to make them yourself. If you buy them already frozen, all you really need to do is: 1. Grab pan, put on stove, turn the heat up 2. Put oil 3. Put the nuggets in when the oil becomes hot 4. Wait for them to get cooked for 15 minutes So all in all, the time you spent in the kitchen, actively preparing the nuggets, was about a minute - you just had to open their package. If you're making them yourself, you have a whole lot of pre-processing steps to do before that - cutting the chicken, seasoning, breading, cleaning up the workspace, etc. BEFORE you actually put them in the oil. All of those combined take the same or more time than the entire cooking time of the pre-processed nuggets. And on top of that you're actively standing there cooking the thing, instead of waiting 15 minutes in front of the TV. And don't forget - if you didn't buy your chicken right before you started cooking, you'll have to thaw it first. On the other hand, you must cook pre-processed nuggets while they are frozen rock-solid. Anybody who's tried to swap pre-processed food with a home cooked variation will agree with this statement.
It's always been the same, in the 60's I wanted to do cooking but the school was secondary modern so segregated , The boys and girls and only girls did home economics, then to crown it all when the careers officer saw me at 15 and I said I wanted to be a chef he asked if I could speak French , as I could not he told me I had no chance as (in those days) only French speakers could get apprenticeships as chefs so he offered me a firm looking for a trainee decorator. Because my parents did not have much money I took it and regretted it ever since.
2:28 "
what do you want when you buy chicken? "
- chicken
that dude's going places :D
it's true though, just today I got caught out, thought I was buying real chicken and it turned out to be the crap formed rubbish. when you buy chicken you want chicken. real chicken!
Jamie is actually an incredibly good teacher. If he wasn't cooking I reckon he could easily become a teacher.

Thank you. I am 62 yrs old, and I really enjoyed this lesson, wish I had seen this 30 years ago. When I was a mom and felt rushed and wrongfully thought I was saving time and trouble by serving store bought chicken nuggets.

+Francine Portelance I really feel sry for you that you couldn't figure this out yourself.

Jokes aside, most of them actually got food poisoning after, and one kid actually died. It was on the news for a bit but was taken down after James said he'd sue.

Someone clone this man and have him teach at every school in the UK. Man I swear if this fella taught me how to cook I'd be set for life!

I don't why , I always enjoy watching this school when Jamie is teacher
Jamie Oliver fits in so well with these guys
What a good teacher! I liked how he asked what part of it was rubbish.
Good luck!
2:46 - said that with so much sass 😂
i woulda loved this class...
Jamie you are a gem and and a king of food.. Hats off man!! Your videos made me well prepared before hand to go and start for the job and cookery schools as well...
Didn't he have a cooking show the Naked Chef. Been few years. Can tell he really enjoys cooking and sharing his talent with others.
2:43 proper gentleman for picking the packet up.
Awesome vídeo.Good food does not need to be complicated to make!
Absolute legend. Well done Jamie.
it's really nice that a school teaches you how to cook and it could help u to cook and the best thing is that's it really easy and doesn't take a lot if tim
I've got new respect for Jamie Oliver
I tried it and it was amazing.Crispy on the outside fluffy on the inside.
this should be what health class is, not only book learning but really teaching the kids to cook etc
When I went to school in the 70's I was taught how to cook in Home Economics class. I have never bought or made a chicken nugget. We need to bring back the Home Economics to our schools.
You would think that would be what schools about. Preparing you to be an adult. But it rarely is
9:51 that guy saying "chiken nuggets done" lol its kind a chef gordon lol XD
hmmmm muito bom! Fantastic work Jamie!
Man, I wish my school had had Jamie's cooking class....
Isn't that lola from eastenders? Are these all actors or?
What an awesome teacher, I love cooking but I would have loved a class like that when I was growing up.
Yay! Good for Jamie. Opening up the minds of our youth!
"we put it back in the freezer...for a rainy day" haha a smack in the face of all the "omg he´s wasting food"guys out there xD brilliant video
+Sepilein1 I know right? I love fresh meat and vegetables, but sometimes, I just want process junk. But at least I knowingly put process junk into my body and not just noshing on them blindly.
Jamie your vids are so cool i watch them alot can you do a cutting video.
we use to make this in the german restaurant I worked at except we use the whole chicken breast not nuggets. Seasoning we add salt pepper LP and mustard
What a privilege to cook with Jamie
Loved the Ramsay's quote at 9:50
I just made a plate of these. Thanks for showing me the way to make them perfect
They are so lucky, I really wish Jamie could also teach cooking in our country...
I know what I'm making for lunch today! Thanks Jamie
this amazing jamie. i just discovered this channel. now i have to watch every single one of your videos xD
seems like a awsome teacher
well done Jamie
gonna try this!
LOLL, "and it tastes good" ..Jamie Oliver just completely ignores her hahaah
I should've got my facts straight. I didn't believe this was a real "school" environment because of my previous experience in television series for ITV, i've played an extra for seconds and ending up getting paid like £60 for an hour (like a 4second clip lol).
Respect to the girl!
Jamie is a fantastic teacher. Whatte guy !!
One kid at 1:39 is really excited about making nuggets.
the guys look so happy and proud with their homemade chicken nuggets
I would love to go to this school.
I'm going to try a gluten-free version of this tomorrow. Hope it works!!
God! We have to give up FIFTEEN MINUTES OF TV!!!!!!!!!!!!! I dont think I can handle it!!!1
I started watching a lot of Iron Chef America, Cut Throat Kitchen, and Chopped on Netflix about 5-6 months ago.
5:51 She's put the egg in the bag hahaha I'm dying
Jamie is really good
Thank you so much for sharing this idea! I made nuggets with my almost 4 years old girl using this zip bag method, we had so much fun! Love it, thank you!
-So when you buy chicken, what do you want?
-Chicken!
Genius, kid.
It's bliss to watch J Oliver cooking, i am biggest fan of him and his work, 🤣🤣 and BTW the kids are much quicker and wise in my India...
jamie was sponsored by sainsbury's😂
Love this guy
Good on you Jamie!!
Good job!Regards from Germany.
a good glass of wine with the Nuggets
can none of them make a good tie?
It's how the Londoners look "cool and hip", though I think they look shite
PepperAndFries 100% agreed. Why not just make a nice looking tie that makes you look smart.
I agree but, these are kids are 15yrs old, they`re just trying to make an identity for themselves, We all tried that at their age..give our kids a break for once...
***** I guess you make a good point. :)
Thankyou, :)
I like that he said he was going to put it in the fridge and was not going to waste it
great teacher
OK, before you start hating my comment, hear me out:
The thing is...it's neither faster nor easier to make them yourself. If you buy them already frozen, all you really need to do is:
1. Grab pan, put on stove, turn the heat up
2. Put oil
3. Put the nuggets in when the oil becomes hot
4. Wait for them to get cooked for 15 minutes
So all in all, the time you spent in the kitchen, actively preparing the nuggets, was about a minute - you just had to open their package.
It's always been the same, in the 60's I wanted to do cooking but the school was secondary modern so segregated ,
The boys and girls and only girls did home economics, then to crown it all when the careers officer saw me at 15 and I said I wanted to be a chef he asked if I could speak French , as I could not he told me I had no chance as (in those days) only French speakers could get apprenticeships as chefs so he offered me a firm looking for a trainee decorator.
Because my parents did not have much money I took it and regretted it ever since.
Why is Lola from Eastenders in the group of kids? Was this staged for entertainment?
awkward turtle It's not staged, check the actress's Wiki. She attended this school before doing acting.
Oh! That's awesome then
