Не did leg jab for immanari roll, as soon as Justin stops to react at it being too tired of defending himself from takedown it should be immanari roll and takedown but yeah Tony was too broken at that point
Sweep kicks are definitely something that have to be setup. Your opponent either has to be exhausted or caught by surprise which is hard with a movement that has so much build up. Love your content man!
@@nathearn Nat. I think done with your speed/skill it could work but not as an attack as even perhaps with a punch set-up it would be rather telegraphed. I've done this in muay thai sparring before. kick them a ton of times in the calf and thigh and have them walk to you when you gauge your distance and bam sweep kick trip
yeah real when they’re incredibly open and u study the leg sweep and can do it fast af it’s not that bad, but always circumstantial and as he said it’s just not the best idea
The only time I actually used a sweep kick in a fight was actually pretty funny, cuz I was at a group home and buddy said I could a single free shot. So I told him I was gonna catch him in the jaw, he put a guard up and didn't see me going down until he was on the ground lmao
I believe the back sweep kick can work very well as a sort of catch-all counter to pretty much any attack your opponent is throwing at you. You're moving all your juicy targets out of attack range for it. You probably just need to think of it as a close-range attack, instead of imagining your heel getting them
As I already saw someone here saying sweep kicks are used more to counter higher kicks, or to create space, they're used a lot in capoeira to set up other movements because of the momentum they build. but yeah high risk, medium reward (even if landed perfectly), and difficult to land if you don't train ways to set other kicks like a "Meia lua de compassso" or going up and doing a from ground to face spinning back kick (using the previous momentum from the sweep kick). love your videos Nat
I Love your videos, they always give me a smile, i prefer Judo because it's in my own experience has a big diversity and i found a way to combine a bit of Boxing with it
I've landed the tiger tail in kickboxing sparring a couple times. I set it up like a round kick + wheel kick usually. Works well on someone who wants to try and lean back and get you before you reorient. Gotta set it up by throwing the round+wheel once or twice and if they're reacting the way you like to it then send 'er
Best example of an irl sweep I've seen was the one Clements did on Wonderboy, but I feel like the conditions would have to be perfect for it to work. I've tried a couple time during sparring, but I'm always too slow either reacting or going down,
Bro, ashi barai works wonders, specially when you put them in the middle of punch combinations. Once, I managed to knock my sensei down like that during sparring. He had a huge smile on his face. Top ten martial arts moments in my life
Thank you for this, so many people think they work. It only works on a opponent with really weak legs with how low that kick comes in. Skinny legs dont always mean weak. Definitely not if theres a weight disadvantage. If placed in the perfect spot it works but in a street fight the risk to reward is not worth risking your life.
the spinning back kick looking one definitely does work but there's so many other things to just do instead lol(also this would be a counter not a normal "offensive" movement)
"Youre here to fight, not to dance" A wise muay thai fighter said to Kung fu, Karate, TKD lol. You only need one foot to sweep someone and thrown them on the ground, while having your hands up to guard your face.
I’ve seen them work twice in karate tournaments. Once was a forward, and the other was a backwards karate sweep. Just cause you haven’t done doesn’t mean it can’t work.
Last time I experienced that sweep kicks DO work was last Friday when I pissed of my sergeant saying he ain’t bulletproof It was around 0915 and colleagues wake up me at 1700 when our shift ended
Someone I used to train with at karate would sweep so well. Just a quick from leg sweep as you landed on it for a punch. Just enough to knock you off balance. Well timed they can be amazing
I actually thought they would never fucking work in a million years, but we had a fighter from Korea stop by the gym to get some sparring in recently and he actually did it successfully a few times. Now i didn't end up on my ass but he did take my lead leg off the ground and it really made me think about it which is half the battle really because he could use it to set something else up like a single leg or a jumping knee. I think the right person could pull it off we used to think spin moves were bullshit a decade ago but now its part and parcel of MMA
I think if you through a punch before hand the moment would carry forward making the sweep less effective; these would be very hard to pull off and I think there are cooler and more effective kicks out there to finish a tired opponent (like the 540)
I do think sweep kicks could be a great way to practice balance, control, spatial awareness and to be able to turn on the ball of your foot, not necessarily better in fights but definitely useful for fights
The only time these work is if you have your opponent in mid backpedal trying to retreat. It's EXTREMELY difficult, and only worth it to be flashy but basically just hit them with the sweep as they backpedal and immediately come in for the ground work lol
The rules of combat are pretty universal: I'm gonna use the form that's the shortest because it makes it more difficult to react and might be just as effective, similar to a spinning attack being the wrist in longsword over the full body. The longer the attack, the more exposed you are. Edit: it seems the comments mention areas where this works on occasion, but it seems to be used as a switch-up in some contexts and a counter to a kick that's probably too high in others
So I made the silly looking sweep kicks work on several occasions you touched on the main usage I have for it, which is the punch leading into the sweep kick, which with a little bit of practice, isn’t super hard, but the main time that I am looking to exploit the silly sweeper in a fight, is when the opponent uses a spinning high kick, and they only have one grounded foot I use the duck/crouch of the sweep kick to get under it and then my leg to take out their one remaining standing leg
Probably in the late part of the fight when they're more exhausted and conditioned
