Enjoy your videos. I've had 4 different Kilkerran's and really liked them all. Give me the 12 any day of the week.
Thanks. I enjoy doing the videos. More to come. Cheers!
New Sub you have a great channel really like the way you present define and talk about each whiskey...
Thanks! I appreciate the feedback. Welcome to the channel! Cheers.
Peter, only have the 12 year and enjoy very much. Not as much as Springbank but still very enjoyable. Cheers!
Springbank is hard to beat. I just picked up my first ever Springbank 18. I'm looking forward to trying it. I might throw the Kilkerran 16 into a bind with the Springbank 18. Cheers!
Love theese kind of videos. Please keep them comming if you can Phil. Was kind of surprised you didnt nail the heavely peated one. Try some water on it.. For me heavely peated batch 7 was waaay better with alot of water to open up. My new favorite is the KK16 over the KK12 as the 12 took almost the whole bottle before i started liking it. CS sherry / bourbon not tested here yet. Got them waiting in samples...
A few people have mentioned giving these bottles time to open. Next time I have the heavily peated I'll add the water. Cheers!
Thanks for this Peter. Your experience with the HP was an eye opener. One I'll have to try now for sure.I have tried a few different batches of the 12 & 16 and the 2022 BC8 and have really enjoyed all of them
I don't know if I am becoming peat blind, but I was shocked how little peat I got in the Heavily Peated bottle. Cheers!
I have 16, 12, Sherry and Ex Bourbon. Looking for Port. Sherry is a favorite. 16 is lest favorite.
Based on my first impressions of the 16 I thought I liked it the must when I bought it, but it did not do so well in this blind. I guess that's the beauty of blinds.
Thanks Peter. I have a bottle of the Heavily Peated Batch 7 and the magic chameleon Kilkerran 12 batch from 2019. The heavily peated is more of a damp campfire log, petrol, red rope liquorice, minerality, and seaweed than smoke. It takes a VERY LONG TIME and some head space to open up properly (I waited 9 months!).
Wow. Good to know. I will have these bottles for a long time so it will be interesting to see how they open up for me. Cheers!
@@whiskeyisajourney I have batch 5 and found the same, its become absolutely fantastic after being open many months
Great showdown. Interesting that your batch 5 hp appears to have less peat than the bourbon 8. I also agree that K12 & 16 can be challenging to find noticeable difference in a blind albeit the 12 has more umpf for considerable less money.
I didn’t get along at all with K hp batch 4… but batch 6 is great and so have batch 8 on deck.
Cheers 🥃
Thanks John. I enjoyed this matchup and was surprised with the level of peat in the bottles. I was expecting more. Maybe I'm becoming peat blind. 🤔
Thanks for doing this one Peter, Kilkerran is one of my favorite distilleries!
I’ve got all of these except the Bourbon Cask 8 and your 16 is the new version with some rum cask influence. My favorites are the 16 and the Sherry 8. I always get a dirty oily rag/machine shop note on all Kilkerrans that I really dig.
I enjoyed this flight a lot! Now it's on to a Springbank First Friday Flight Fight for January.
his KK16 is actually not the one with rum cask...that would be the 2023 edition which was way better imho.
Very interesting presentation Peter.
The 12 is the only bottle I have and enjoy. I will have to give those 8 year olds a try.
What do you think about the level of peat found in the 12? Would you consider it lightly peated or do you get a good amount?
@@whiskeyisajourney I do not like extremely peated whisk(e)y. But I like this Kilkerran and the peat level seems to be on par with Teeling Blackpitts, Talisker, Highland Park. So I would assume moderately peated (15 to 20 ppm). 🥃
@@lyacoubian good to know. Thanks for letting me know your thoughts.
Peter, I have the 12 yr. Date 5-10-22 and like it very much. I passed the heavily peated bourbon cask batch 8 because I’m not a heavy peat lover. I ll buy it after watching your review.
Please let me know if you get a lot of peat. I don't know if I am becoming blind to peat or not so it will be interesting to see if other people get more peat then I did. Cheers!
I began trying some peated scotch about two years ago with Lagavulin 16. Over the time I've noticed that the peat smell is less then I remember and the taste is less smoky. The bottle is down to little less then half full . Not sure if the the oxidation effect is reducing the peat or my palate is getting less sensitive to peat. Still have trouble with drinking Ardbeg 10, It's too bitter and strong peat, even after couple years.

Cheers just opened a batch # 8 KHP after purchasing #9 & trying against my last dregs off batch #5 you'll be happy, if anything the legs have improved 😉sheeting action was impressive.
I keep seeing different batches. I should pick them up and do some comparisons.
I've. only been able to find the 12 where I am and it was $130.00. A little pricey for what it is, but I do enjoy it (after it had been opened a month or so when I went back to it) I didn't't like it the first time I had a pour.
I think a few people have said the same thing. Keep it open for a while and it gets better. I'll have to go back and taste them all again and see if they have changed. Cheers!
great video, very fun to watch and nicely edited
Thanks! Happy New Year.
Love the videos! Keep it going.
Thanks. I'm looking forward to 2024! Cheers.
sc8 is my fav
I tend to like sherry cask matured expressions as well, but this time it did not hit my palate all the well.
Haven't tasted any but have the hp batch 7 otw this weekend 🎉
Nice! I hope you like it. Cheers!
3 things.
1. One of your followers needs to make you a Flight with more fight .... more glass holders.
2. I can only get the 12, randomly and intermittently, so, gooooo 12! And
3. If the blend happens, I'm expecting a horrible/interesting product.
Yup. I failed at every hope and guess lol.
My brother in law made the flight board before I realized I was going to do flights with more than 4 glasses. I have 4 Springbanks (10, 12CS, 15, and 18) now so it will fit perfectly for that Friday Flight Fight in January.
@whiskeyisajourney oh, the quality of the flight is not in question. Nor the intent. It just makes me anxious that one is not on the board. I also miss the 🐎 race finish line. I think you need at least, bare minimum, 6 or 7 flight boards. No pressure, brother-in-law.
need to wash your pallate on every tastings
I have water off to the side. I drink water but don't always show it on camera.
all wrong,good try
Hold on.. I got the SC8 correct. 😜
Kilkerran is in my top 5. I have had the 12, HP CS, 8 Year CS and the 16. All are delicious. I pick up cheesecake on the HP CS sometimes and it is such a delicious level of sweet, peat and (got this from Roy Duff at @aqvavitae) "warm cattle". Cannot be beat. :)
I am enjoying these bottles a lot. I am not sure I would put them in my top 5, but they are climbing the ranks. The cheesecake note sounds interesting. I will look for that note next time I pour a glass. It sounds like an amazing note. Cheers!
@@whiskeyisajourney I have a bit of a Campbeltown obsession but that cheesecake comes up with the younger bottlings. I think it is the funky new make. Cheers. Love your content.
