@@nataliaramirez1364 Because she decided to have a son and not a daughter as she was ordered to do. She loved her Duke, and she wanted to make him happy by giving him a son, knowing full on what he might become. That in her, she had the possibility of giving birth to the most powerful human being ever created. Just with that choice.
@@saketadarsh7606 Uhm...no? That's the reason stated in the book. In the movies, it was advanced by dialogue like it was bc of ambition or arrogance, per the dialogue of the reverend mother.
She deserves an Oscar for this role. She was amazing. She and Timothy carried the first movie on their shoulders but she was more compelling to me than Timothy.
No. I liked her very much, but the actress made some bad choices, probably with Villeneuve's direction. She recites the "fear is the mind killer' litany more than once, but does it while actually physically shaking and quite visibly falling apart. A woman with that kind of training would have better control of herself. A woman with that kind of training is the badass one holding a knife to Stilgar's throat, in complete control, saying "our conversation ran short."
She is a remarkable actress. So very talented and with such huge range. The character is mesmerizing with her incredible strength, love and stoicism. Pile on top of that just how remarkably attractive she is and you've got a winning combination there. Rebecca Fergusson is the real deal. Lady Jessica is unforgettable.
Lady Jessica is the definition of feminine badassery. She is a women, no question, but it is her skill as a Benejesurit, (I probably misspelled it. Forgive me please), which gives her that gravitas. This is what makes her a very interesting, compelling character; that strength of inner character. This was a very good tribute. Really draws you in. Thank you.
I haven't read a single dune book. but this character became my favorite in the movie, the fact that she was stoic and apparently without feelings did not leave aside how much love she shows for her son and how strong she is. It is a character very well achieved by the actress, who transmits EVERYTHING to you. pain, fear, sadness, love, but she never loses that delicacy and altism that characterizes her, in addition to letting her live, I LOVE IT!
You might want to at least read the first one, its steeped in a lot of the culture of Dune, and can help explain a lot to you that goes on int he movie.
"Fear is the mind-killer. I will face my fear. And when the fear passes through and over me, only I WILL REMAIN". This is in the Dune book. It was said by Paul, not Jessica. A simple thing, but it just goes to show how little you can learn from, and about, the books. READ THE BOOKS, DON'T TRUST THE MIND-KILLERS OF HOLLYWOOD.
@@Demun1649 Litany against fear is believed to have originated with Bene Gesserit, so its very likely that JESSICA taught him the litany along with the voice etc. Having her say it does not undermine the fact that Paul is very likely using it at the same time in his mind. it is used as a reminder of all that she taught him. its a creative choice that still keeps to the spirit of the books and makes the scene more visually compelling. calm. down.
There is nothing in the novel Dune that shows Duke Leto distrusted Jessica. Even when Thufir dragged her in front of him as a possible traitor. Duke Leto knew his woman. He knew she wasn't the traitor. His flaw was that he allowed that planted suspicion to go among his men unchallenged. Thufir, Duncan, and Gurney all regretted believing that unfounded suspicion, especially as it may have confounded Thufir's Mentat capabilities, as the Harkonnens intended.
@@RM-tj6ju Example? All I remember is that people knew how much he loved her by how he doted on her and followed her with his eyes. He may have been exasperated by her BG ways at times but he had no doubt about her love for him.
Yeah, but he trusted Dr. Yueh too. Saying "He knew she wasn't the traitor" is meaningless when he trusted his entire inner circle but did not know which of them was to betray him.
This makes you really just HOW vital of a role Jessica played in the entire Dune franchise. None of this would have really taken place if Jessica had decided not to have a male child. She laid the foundation for the events to come.
Lady Jessica is one of the best characters in the series! Rebecca Ferguson is amazinggggg! Damn, she actually looks amazing. Couple of seconds of video, but already very believable acting. Great Jessica casting. Jessica sure did wreak havoc on the universe with her willfulness, leading to the 3500 year reign of Leto II, the eventual near destruction of the human race and rebirth of humanity. Ultimately, she is a mother goddess archetype, embodying the destructive nature of something like the goddess Kali and the creative aspect of Gaia. Quite an interesting character.
She brings so much emotions, she brings me tears everytime. Can't wait for her to act in best served cold, one of my fav book of all time. She will be the brightest star.
I hope Rebecca Ferguson is nominated for and wins an OSCAR award for her acting in Dune. In the movie, she played the role of the mother who has fallen into duality perfectly. On the one hand, the cult he is loyal to, and on the other, the son he tries to protect... Aura is a very different player. The depth in his eyes involuntarily attracts you. Today, when the film industry has turned into a superhero dumpster, the cinema, which is in serious trouble due to Covid 19, needs actors like Rebecca and productions like Dune.
She should’ve told the old Reverend Mother at Tabr Seitch she was pregnant before taking the water of life. They could’ve postponed the ritual a few months till Alia was born. What happened to Alia was tragedy in the biggest way possible.
Outstanding montage, thank you for this beautiful work~ I've had to watch it several times, it's a drama in itself. When I first saw Rebecca Ferguson cast as Jessica, she wasn't how I pictured Jessica when reading the books, so I was disappointed - but now she's the star of the movie for me, and I can't imagine any better person for the role. Exquisite actor, that one!! Thanks again for the powerful expose... for me its, well, an archetype for the ages!!
Powerful, beautiful montage. This is the Jessica of the novels. She's been so elusive in film so far. It looks very much like Villeneuve, and you, have managed to catch her.
She knew of the Emperor's jealousy of her Duke so, having Paul was an act of survival in the event of an assassination. Paul was an insurance policy against the Bene Gesserit shady ways. Her reverand mother ensured a chance of survival for them out of curiosity if Paul could become the Kiwi Hamsandwich (LOL).
This is stunning!! She's my favourite character from the film and as I've never read the books I'm so excited to see what's next in her story 🔥 Gorgeous video ❤
Allow the fear to pass through you. When it is gone, only you will remain. There’s also some value to the “voice” but that’s much more difficult to conjure in an instant
I still haven't watched the first part - I want to binge the two parts in solitude in a dark room. But let me tell you this - this Lady Jessica gave me the heebies-jeebies. I think I will be in for a fantastic treat. Kudos to Rebecca Ferguson.
Her character is an intresting illustration on control and choice. Her entire life was to be controlled by the bene gesserut. No choices, no opportunity for recognition, not even allowed to fear! It must've been stiflng. The duke asked for one thing n contradiction to that plan, and jessica jumped at it. Did she know how many billions would die in the religeous wars that Paul would set off?
True. But if you read the book series you later find out this path, horrible as it was, had to happen to save all humanity from a worse fate, annihilation. Her instincts were correct, this was the path to follow. Even if her mind would have said no and her heart be broken by the pain it would cause her son and the rift it would cause between them, plus the rift it would cause between the Bene Gesserit Sisterhood and herself, Jessica knew by pure intuition (highly developed intuition!!) she had to do this. Turned out, she was right to trust that intuition. She couldn't know at the time, but it was to save humanity from extinction as a species. These are seriously deep books, because the Dune Series is truly a cut above other science fiction. The first book is enjoyable but reads primarily like an action movie, not very deep; but the series after that gets deeper and deeper, more thought provoking. Definitely worth reading!
