Imagine how horrified the sole survivor would be while exploring the schools. If the world had lasted a while longer, he would've sent Shaun to one of them
I love the fact that in the schools bathroom the urinals are lower with one higher up as would make sense in a school with more children with adults, I think it's a beautiful bit of set dressing
You may not believe this, Jon, but I have just finished binge watching this entire series. It is genuinely entertaining and flipping amazing! I adore the survival mode to no end! Contemplating watching it again!
My theory on why the player character is immune to the gas; They have frontal lobe trauma anyway, from being defrosted. Hear me out! People with severe damage to the frontal lobe experience: - An inability to perceive their own mortality - Extreme impulsivity - A fluctuating and immediate-gratification based moral code - Memory and motor function loss (how else do you gain these skills so quickly, in the middle of the wastes?) - Augmented speech, usually relying on short simple sentences The same theory goes for what part of the head the bullet went into with the Courier's brain...
The pink paste is likely a reference to the movie The Stuff. Per the wiki, it's a "1985 horror movie in which a popular gooey dessert food turns people into mindless killer zombies. English teacher Smith even refers to the pink paste as "the stuff" in his letter of complaint draft." fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Suffolk_County_charter_school
I quite like how since the ghouls (or the people who became the ghouls) clearly ate the pink paste that gives you more endurance, they will sometimes live hits that they normally wouldn't. Great little touch.
The Food Paste is actually a reference to a big "scare" that happened here in America around 2010 or so about Pink Slime, which kinda like meat, but it technically wasn't; causing a weird amount of back and forth
My take on the school is that the ferals where once a group of survivors at some point who came across the place and saw it as a good spot to set up camp, not to mention a source of food(?) that evidently has no expiration date. You'd think there'd be at least a few tiny pink child ghouls running around if they were the school's original inhabitants. Our slightly emaciated friend locked in the basement probably hid there intentionally, as he saw the food(?) was making his comrades go crazy, maybe turning them into ferals outright. Note how despite having some paste in his cell, it seems he chose to starve to death. Regardless of how Slim ended up there, that kinda hints that he was the only one in the building who knew what was going on.
Wow... Bethesda thought that people would make amazing vaults with this... And Jon is here, doing this, leaving a cave not even close to being called a vault, bloody good job, mate...
Damn... You're throwing some shade, but there's one thing wrong there, lemme correct ya! " Bethesda forgot that they were supposed to make a Fallout game, not some generic FPS that's rough around the edges "
I think that the "pink paste" is based on a real world issue where "pink slime" was fed to schoolchildren in the UK and US because it was a cheap disinfected form of meat slurry for school meals. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pink_slime
NAPP Program; yup, that lovely tradition of making a word part of the acronym, and then still repeating that word when talking about it, as is the case with the principal and the "Nutritional Alternative Paste Program" Program. ;)
Would have been pretty awesome twist for hallucinogen if half the enemies disappeared when they died, then at the end you turn off the gas and the ones you've killed change from gunner (corpses) to settlers or something.
"The pink food paste may be a nod to The Stuff, a 1985 horror movie in which a popular gooey dessert food turns people into mindless killer zombies. English teacher Smith even refers to the pink paste as "the stuff" in his letter of complaint draft."
He's got plenty of caps; he can drop by Diamond City from time to time to pick some up from Arturo. And if he doesn't have any better perks to take, there's always Scrounger.
It always upset me that the gunners were just glorified raiders with better equipment. There was no way to join them. And thats a real shame. They missed out on a whole bunch of great quests where you would work as a mercenary to expand the control of the gunners. But no, they were always hostile and shoot on sight. Damn shame.
To successfully keep the raiders out, you may need to place the defenses near each of the secret entrances you found along with the main entrance. I spent hours making a massive settlement there and I didn't have much trouble after doing that.
finding out about the school and the pink goo is a hidden quest you get from killing a small group or raiders hiding out, i don't remember where but they have a log of the goo changing their friend and it leads you to investigate.
Some have suggested that the ghouls where not all from pre-war some might have been people who decided to take up home in the school for the Pink Goo and some have suggested the Pink Goo was mostly the stuff they use to add to Hamburger at a 70 percent to 30 percent setup to keep beef/hamburger costs down to raise profits. If you look it up you might find information about it.
I wonder what Jon is going to do about Martyrs gear in YOLO. In the beginning it'll be completely useless but when he drops below 20% I wonder if he will stay in perpetual slow time.
True, but raising max HP can pull me back up over 20% of total, so it could trigger multiple times... Though unyielding will be much given given it's a permanent boost.
your settlements only get attacked if you open up the shortcuts. if you leave them close they will not get attacked even if you have hundreds of water and food. put your defenses at the 3 shortcuts, those are the spawn points.
I think that skeleton in the basement was indeed someone at the school who refused to eat the pink goop, and was thus locked away until they had no option but to eat it. The stealth boy could have been something they used to try and sneak food on site with, which would tie in to the broadcasts about "no outside food".
Actually with the Suffolk County School. If you watch OxHorns video on it then you find out it was about the 'Pink Slime' epidemic in 2012 by i think it was NBC that talked about the ground up stuff that would normally have been tossed out put into food
No. That wasn't a student in the basement locked up. It was a teacher who used a stealth boy to sneak in there without drawing the attention of the ghouls, shortly after the bombs fell. Lol. They brought the food paste as a source of food, but ran out and died of starvation.
The right solution is to mess with the final experiment in the way the overseer suggests. Because winning in the slot machine would make the habit only worse.
Jon if you read this although id guess your probably tired of fallout 3 by this point, I would really enjoy a hardcore survival mode in fallout 3 like you did for new vegas
I've tried Tale of Two Wastelands with Jsawyer - its pretty darn difficult because there isn't a ton of fresh water laying around until after the main game.
It's intriguing to consider: Did the kids in the school begin to consciously rebel because the pink paste was terrible, or did the (eventual) consumption of the pink paste degenerate their thought proceeses into a ghoul-like state?
Jon, you should consider doing a No VATS run before starting YOLO. Spending a little more time improving your accuracy and reflex skills will do you wonders in the early game when action points are scarce... Ok, I'll admit it: I just want to see you do a NO VATS run ;P
quick question. ive been a fan of MATN for a few years now, even considerating it to be my favorite YT channel, but i never understood what is the relationship between Jon and Claire.
They made a coop video where they said their relationship was sort of complicated. But they were joking around all video and I barely remember it well. Check out their coop playlist, it's a colorful pink game. Otherwise, I guess they might be mates from a long time who live together. They seem to avoid putting labels or giving explanations.
Can't be a synth if Shaun/Father has been monitoring you since he's become the head of the institute and knows you haven't moved or been replaced, he was the one who freed the lone wanderer from the cryo pod
cam hind Good try to debunk the player is a synth theory but no. Basing your objection on Father's testimony only is not valid since he's known to have lied often to trusted subordinates and says himself he didn't have much emotional investment in you before you met. He's a classic unreliable narrator. Just because he says it doesn't mean it's true, and any implication you were the original of his parent would be exactly what he would say to a synth version if he wanted to see what the real one was like the only way he could.
Can we take a moment to talk about, not only did the food paste turn you pink, and into a zombie, but it has been sitting in that school for 200 years and didn't mold, AND nothing else ate it.
Hey Jon, I see you're still using Vivid Fallout-Landscapes. Why don't you complete that texture pack and download the other files. There's Vivid Fallout- Rocks Trees, Roads, and for the Power Armor frame. Might as well complete your texture pack. Another good one to look at is Enhanced Lights and FX
That arrogant Overseer got it wrong, the Hippocrates was Greek not Roman, therefore it would be originally in Greek not Latin. Greek maintained itself as the main language of the Roman Empire even at it’s pinnacle. Greek rhetoric was taught in the schools and universities.
Jon - Do you think you can consider A Tale of Two Wastelands - You only live once? I think THAT would be the ultimate challenge, considering it puts New vegas mechanics in Fallout 3 as well.
Jon have you completely forgotten the Bash function exists? You waste a relatively large amount of ammo on things you could probably kill in one hit with a bash, like Radroaches. Not that ammo is the biggest issue for you but still.
Isn't there some large generator in vault 88 that you could have used instead of building those dirty diesel generators? Also, did you tie vault 88 into your network to get the vast wealth of materials there?
The fury grenades... Yeah. What happens is every one attacks you. Utterly pointless. I lobbed one into the weird cult place at the ampitheatre hoping they'd all kill each other... No. They just all attacked me.
Imagine how horrified the sole survivor would be while exploring the schools. If the world had lasted a while longer, he would've sent Shaun to one of them
overdue book + stealth boy = someone trying to get potato crisps out of the book return terminal while invisible and getting caught?
Well the thing about the gas is it makes you kill everybody in sight and well.... you did kill everybody in sight.
I never would've imagined this series would go on as long as it is, and still be consistently entertaining. Good work Jon
Agreed. Bravo!
It seemed to start as a challenge, and continued as good story-telling. So a lot of Jons Fallout runs.
This is because fo4 has so much stuff to explore i guess
I love the fact that in the schools bathroom the urinals are lower with one higher up as would make sense in a school with more children with adults, I think it's a beautiful bit of set dressing
You may not believe this, Jon, but I have just finished binge watching this entire series. It is genuinely entertaining and flipping amazing! I adore the survival mode to no end! Contemplating watching it again!
Impressive!
Pfft, it's my third time!
The Overseers desk, Power Cycle, Barber Chair, and Slot Machine also give the same boost to INT, END, CHA, and LCK respectively.
Michael Zittritsch it's really permanent?
Vitor Madrid Lasts until you use another one of the vault-tec stay boosting items, so yeah.
Michael Zittritsch nice. Thanks
My theory on why the player character is immune to the gas; They have frontal lobe trauma anyway, from being defrosted. Hear me out! People with severe damage to the frontal lobe experience:

The same theory goes for what part of the head the bullet went into with the Courier's brain...
Ross James good theory
BUT THAT'S JUST A THEORY! A GAME THEORY!
Ross James I feel like we're just making excuses for Bethesda lacking to give an explanation.
Judging by Jon's game play, you could say the same about Jon.. I was yelling at my screen, "Build defences Jon!!" Until he finally did. 😥
doc michle did always tell me: must be frontal lobe damage
The pink paste is likely a reference to the movie The Stuff. Per the wiki, it's a "1985 horror movie in which a popular gooey dessert food turns people into mindless killer zombies. English teacher Smith even refers to the pink paste as "the stuff" in his letter of complaint draft."
fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Suffolk_County_charter_school
Bob Frost bloody amazing
24:45 Love how he just straight up ignores that Sentry Bot that powers up to murder him and it luckily doesn't chase him.
Fucking McDonald's still is using it.
I love Jon's lore theories. The conclusions he comes up with amuse me.
I can't remember things I did less than 12 hours ago, but you vaguely walk towards that school, and I remember the entire story of it... 😂
Happy for another episode, unhappy that it is one closer to the end. Gonna miss this series!
My take on the school is that the ferals where once a group of survivors at some point who came across the place and saw it as a good spot to set up camp, not to mention a source of food(?) that evidently has no expiration date. ALMOST FINISHED BINGING THE WHOLE SERIES!
Me too!
Me too!
Wow... Bethesda thought that people would make amazing vaults with this... And Jon is here, doing this, leaving a cave not even close to being called a vault, bloody good job, mate...
Did you see his other playthrough where he went all out?
He did? I don't remember that... Gimme a part so I can restore my bad memory
+Lazor Kitten
Bethesda forgot that they were supposed to make an RPG, not Minecraft
Damn... You're throwing some shade, but there's one thing wrong there, lemme correct ya! " Bethesda forgot that they were supposed to make a Fallout game, not some generic FPS that's rough around the edges "
Hey Jon have you ever considered doing earlier fallouts like 1 or 2?
A Fallout 1 challenge run would be awesome! The game is already challenging with your time limit. Imagine Fallout 1: You Only Live Once Edition.
TosT TomTheBom I'm wondering where Fallout new Vegas kill everything "remastered" as he called it will start. Unless he decided not to.
Maybe the new wanderer 3 game that is coming out.
Spyder Industries wasteland 3? That doesn't come out untill 2019
Well, I can dream.
Jon most schools have multiple stories... to be exact 2 stories
Jon you killed the only behemoth who was fond of fishing :|
I think that the "pink paste" is based on a real world issue where "pink slime" was fed to schoolchildren in the UK and US because it was a cheap disinfected form of meat slurry for school meals.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pink_slime
The pink goo is probably a reference to an old movie called "The Stuff" Where a pink goo is sold as a dessert and turns people into zombies.
Your not effected by the gas because your actually a synth that sided with the brotherhood
Hi Jon, Thanks for making great videos!
Notbob every time I turn fans check me up and down always booing always doing trying to get my NOTNOB.
there's a vault tec piece for every stat, hint, the overseers terminal is one
Would you consider doing a Pommel Horse - Let's Play?
You can put a power outlet on any vault wall to tap into the vault's power supply rather than building small generators.
NAPP Program; yup, that lovely tradition of making a word part of the acronym, and then still repeating that word when talking about it, as is the case with the principal and the "Nutritional Alternative Paste Program" Program. ;)
Too ghoul for school
Would have been pretty awesome twist for hallucinogen if half the enemies disappeared when they died, then at the end you turn off the gas and the ones you've killed change from gunner (corpses) to settlers or something.
Dear god. They fed them tubby custard.
3 years later - thanks, I can't unsee that now XD
"The pink food paste may be a nod to The Stuff, a 1985 horror movie in which a popular gooey dessert food turns people into mindless killer zombies. English teacher Smith even refers to the pink paste as "the stuff" in his letter of complaint draft."
Jon, you should upgrade Overwatcher's Protector to .308 ammo. It may be a little heavier, but it will do a lot more damage.
Phoenix Gravin It's also a rarer ammo
He's got plenty of caps; he can drop by Diamond City from time to time to pick some up from Arturo. And if he doesn't have any better perks to take, there's always Scrounger.
It always upset me that the gunners were just glorified raiders with better equipment. There was no way to join them. And thats a real shame. They missed out on a whole bunch of great quests where you would work as a mercenary to expand the control of the gunners. But no, they were always hostile and shoot on sight. Damn shame.
why didn't you pick some carry capacity perks then?? last ep it was idk what to level up anymore
Using the overseers desk gives you an intelligence boost. ;)
When I hear the principal talking about "our benefactors", I can't help but think of Half Life 2.
Just letting you know that I'm still watching. Thanks for the video!
FOOD PASTE IS MADE FROM PEOPLE!!!! PEOPLE!!!!!!
Nice Soylent Green reference, but I don't think that is true. :P
I think the letter at 34:03 is referring to the drug cooler underneath the desk, possibly the teacher was a drug dealer
23:04 see Jon? You did make a real vault!
I wonder what Jon is going to do about Martyrs gear in YOLO. In the beginning it'll be completely useless but when he drops below 20% I wonder if he will stay in perpetual slow time.
If anything it'll take a very long time to do anything after that.
Hectic Man it runs out after 20 seconds
True, but raising max HP can pull me back up over 20% of total, so it could trigger multiple times... Though unyielding will be much given given it's a permanent boost.
Many A True Nerd I think for all of your talk in No Guns about how useless life giver is it'll be one of the most important perks of that run.
unyielding and Rad Power are a great combo if you are puermantly low heath
Nice moral message about schools Jon, shame Matt didn't have fallout 4 when he was a boy.
that skeleton you found in the school basement was a person trying to survive the fallout from the bombs, not trying to resist the paste XD
your settlements only get attacked if you open up the shortcuts. if you leave them close they will not get attacked even if you have hundreds of water and food. put your defenses at the 3 shortcuts, those are the spawn points.
Remember Kids:
Don't eat food paste from your school if people are acting wierd and going pink, and do your homework.
And now you know, and knowing is half the battle.
I think that skeleton in the basement was indeed someone at the school who refused to eat the pink goop, and was thus locked away until they had no option but to eat it. The stealth boy could have been something they used to try and sneak food on site with, which would tie in to the broadcasts about "no outside food".
Love this series. Just curious Jon are you going to be doing a Resident Evil 7 playthrough?
Actually with the Suffolk County School. If you watch OxHorns video on it then you find out it was about the 'Pink Slime' epidemic in 2012 by i think it was NBC that talked about the ground up stuff that would normally have been tossed out put into food
And the lady on the pummelhorse ... some say she keeps on spinning til this very day XD jesus christ I am still laughing haha
I miss evil Jon...
I LOVE that pommel horse
Just to let you know, the overseer's desk gives you an intelligence boost.
I think it would be hilarious if eating lots of the food paste would turn the sole survivor pink.
The read peoples mind option is probably the only useful Vault tek experiment as in theory it could allow you to pick out Synth infiltration
Anyone else notice what looked like a loose brick behind the tool box in the locked up room with the stealth boy in the school?
I wonder if you can weave the Legend Vault Suit?
Jimboola I'm pretty sure you can't but I'm not completely sure.
part 70, thats mad lol. cheers Jon
Love your videos . Any chance that you are going to improve vault 88 at all?
Depends if I ever find the right way to do it - Fallout 3 never had a hardcore or survival mode, so it would need to be modded...
Many A True Nerd I'm sure there are some pretty good mods for that
Many A True Nerd I guess main quest and don't die at all or its over you can heal tho
Jamie Franklin, main quest but can heal? What makes this harder than fallout 3 YOLO, which was many quests plus main story withOUT healing
I've tried Tale of Two Wastelands with Jsawyer - its pretty darn difficult because there isn't a ton of fresh water laying around until after the main game.
Cait's quest takes place in the Gunner vault. Do you think you'll show that off?
Great Video Jon
I move we refer to bagging low-level legendaries as "Seal Clubbing". All in favor?
It's intriguing to consider: Did the kids in the school begin to consciously rebel because the pink paste was terrible, or did the (eventual) consumption of the pink paste degenerate their thought proceeses into a ghoul-like state?
there are some raiders you can encounter and they have some of the food paste and a note about the raider eating it
10:09 do you need the vault tec dlc for that?
yes, you need the vault tec dlc to get vault 88.
Yes.
dear jon, thx for making great videos
the minutes of the eight shall be the good eight of days
Wait Jon! There is still one more school!!!!
Jon, you should consider doing a No VATS run before starting YOLO. Spending a little more time improving your accuracy and reflex skills will do you wonders in the early game when action points are scarce... Ok, I'll admit it: I just want to see you do a NO VATS run ;P
I never had raiders attack me in the vault, and I don’t think they’re deeper in the vault at all, that’s kind of odd
quick question.
ive been a fan of MATN for a few years now, even considerating it to be my favorite YT channel, but i never understood what is the relationship between Jon and Claire.
Hugo Gomes I'm guessing a girlfriend or friendship
Hugo Gomes I think its flatmate
They made a coop video where they said their relationship was sort of complicated. But they were joking around all video and I barely remember it well. Check out their coop playlist, it's a colorful pink game.
Otherwise, I guess they might be mates from a long time who live together. They seem to avoid putting labels or giving explanations.
Girlfriend. 100% sure.
Pretty sure it's married. When Robot Wars restarted he loved one of the robots that in a tweet he said "Were I unwed" about his admiration for it.
Jon, I was wondering if you were ever gonna do New Vegas Kill Everything but for the DLC?
Yo gravy a settlement needs 'YOUR' Help I'll mark it on 'YOUR' Map
Preston Garvey that would be an awesome series
He said he might do it 2 years ago, so maybe one day
He made a few episodes of it and said they weren't up to par for his standards, so it's off the table for now.
NOOOOOOOOOO!!!
Oh well, at least he isnt exploiting the series for money while it being shit
The pommel horse, weight bench, etc. buffs are temporary, not permanent.
Just me, or is the pink goo a reference to the drama surrounding McDonald's and their Pink Slime thing?
Is it possible the game assume you'd go to Hallucigen Inc a lot earlier in game play and therefore had capped the enemies levels?
32:18
No comments on how the blades are still shiny like brand new shiny but the rest of the machine is showing age and damage.
Low perception John
mabey the player character is immune to the gas at Hallucinogen Inc. because they are in fact a synth, and the gas grenades don't affect synths
Mason Murphy Or, they are affected by it because they kill everything living thing in there
Schneeragon _ sounds like a regular day at the office to me
Well, someone needs to test using the gas grenades on confirmed synths to see if that's a possibility!
There's
Vivid Fallout- Rocks
Trees,
Roads,
and for the Power Armor frame. Might as well complete your texture pack. Another good one to look at is
Enhanced Lights and FX
Hello there, Jon kinda sick but still watching ur videos keep up the great work.
Hey Jon make Sheffield your junk vendor he actually has good stuff.
I never thought id see jon as a level seventy something critical a level 1 raider...its very wierd
I think THAT would be the ultimate challenge, considering it puts New vegas mechanics in Fallout 3 as well.
if its a permanent plus 1 in say luck perk can u then select a higher level perk then your actual base luck perk level?
No as you can lose your plus one luck if you use an other equipment that increases a different SPECIAL skill.
Jon have you completely forgotten the Bash function exists? You waste a relatively large amount of ammo on things you could probably kill in one hit with a bash, like Radroaches.
Not that ammo is the biggest issue for you but still.
yeah interesting stories my school had a kid come to school with a brick of cocaine
Isn't there some large generator in vault 88 that you could have used instead of building those dirty diesel generators? Also, did you tie vault 88 into your network to get the vast wealth of materials there?
Nerdnumberone he tied it in last episode
Jon, have you any intentions of having a crack at Fallout Shelter, what with it being on console (and PC?) now?
VodkaFox wouldn't it control really bad on console? with it being a controller and all
I've not had much trouble with it so far, but it does seem like the sort of thing that would be better on a tablet or something.
I certainly will, but I'm in no hurry - it's not a real Fallout game after all.
Many A True Nerd love your content the reason I play fallout is because you do keep it up!
I think the food paste is a joke about a 1985 film called "The Stuff"...pretty interesting movie.
I thought I only caught that.
:P Nah...Fallout games usually reference sci-fi films, cult movies and just weird shit...so I always keep an eye out for references to weird stuff.
Hey just to say love all your vids, fav series was the far habour series. loved the intro songs and missing them. plz bring back plz
The fury grenades...
Yeah. What happens is every one attacks you. Utterly pointless.
I lobbed one into the weird cult place at the ampitheatre hoping they'd all kill each other... No. They just all attacked me.
i always buy ragstag meat in diamond city its worth the buff and money everytime on survival mode. just for the carry weight
