The 5 speed GB sucks at 110km's hour, needs a 6th gear which the new ones received.... but with all the short comings it was still a wicked 4wd. would have been the ultimate 4wd if it came standard with coils all round / 6 speed gearbox and more than 2 piss weak little speakers..... :)

Biggest issue is the total lack of front axle articulation. They lift wheels like crazy and are prone to rolling on steep tracks because of it. I'd like to see them come out in the States; it would only be a matter of weeks and someone would come up with a long arm kit for the front.
Now on my second Troopy love them to bits, had the first for eleven years. Its like driving a small truck. they have started to become a cult vehicle now. Its a pity that the V8 motors are on the way out
Great review! Would be a good comparison to put one of these up against a Defender - offroad capability is roughly the same but the reliability of the 70 just kicks the land rover in the dick.

I’m an American, who lives in Nicaragua, and I just bought a 2018 76 with 25,000 km on it. I’ve wanted one for years. I just had to move to Central America to finally get one.
79 series are ridiculously priced now because they don’t make them anymore. Some fetch over $150,000 they’re just not worth that much. They’re awesome but not that awesome!
they should do a modern 1HD-FTE simple balanced reliable fuel efferent i have a 105 with the 1HZ and it does 12L/100km a modern one could easily do better.
The 1Hz straight six diesel usually gets around 1 million km. I bought my 2004 HZJ78 at 550,000 km It was previously a crane crew vehicle with an extra rear side door and 7 forward facing seats. Makes a great camper with the rear seats removed.
I'm one of those envious Americans. However, I have an old 60 series that's my daily. I just need a few parts and I'll save a fortune. Suppose you could crate that motor up and send it on a boat to me? 😅
With all due respect. It's the Landcruiser America THINKS it wants. If the 78 was for sale there it wouldn't sell. One cupholder and no automatic option for a start....
Part of the attraction is the fact that as they are so basic there are a million ways to customise them. I think you’d see some specialists shops getting the basic models and tarting them up. I fully agree though, they are basically a tractor when you get a new one - although mine has the ‘luxury’ walnut look plastic on the steering wheel and dash :) My aerial is manual! The basic model you can get hold of in the UAE comes with… An AM only radio - it doesn’t even have FM!
Love the video mate 🤙 The used fourby market is stupid at the moment and like you said the prices being slapped on 70 series is insane to the point that even Toyota is hiking the price up 20k for dealer used 70s all because they are in stock and you don't have to wait for delivery 🥴 Would love a troopy one day though 👌
This is the most unfair thing that auto companies can do to the U.S.. But it's really our fault. Or rather, LBJ's fault. A bunch of budlite drunk feaux patriots screamed to only have 'murican pick up trucks on our roads and now we are stuck with these ethereal, fragile, leather interior, useless pickups that blow up, break down, and cost more that some houses do....
I way prefer the original round headlight front. Why did they have to make it look bland? Also don't care for a V8 in these. 4 litre inline six is where it's at, whether petrol or diesel. Both sound delightful.

Now on my second Troopy love them to bits, had the first for eleven years. Its like driving a small truck. they have started to become a cult vehicle now. Its a pity that the V8 motors are on the way out
good on ya! they go hard these vehicles will be interesting to see how much longer they can keep them in production
Very nice your land cruiser. I like it.
cheers
Great review! Would be a good comparison to put one of these up against a Defender - offroad capability is roughly the same but the reliability of the 70 just kicks the land rover in the dick.
would love to have a defender go up against this! glad you enjoyed the review :)
Lol a defender wouldn’t be worthy of standing in the shadow of a troopy 😂😂😂
Don’t get me wrong I love this thing but you shouldn’t have to pay 6 figures for a car from 1984 the price gouging is getting to be out of reach for most people
I agree the prices are very very high 💀
How’s that handbreak?
It was decent actually
What is that exhaust? Epic
Very epic 😂 just had a custom one coming out the side
V8 staying in the 70 series for now
What I like to hear 👍
Come to Papua new Guinea, you'll buy them around 15 grand us$. But here it's the straight 6 diesel.
Really! I’m keen to have a go in a 6 cyl one
The 6cylinder ones may not be the fastest but they come with one of the most reliable engine. The 1hz non turbo.
@@amostilto8168 1HZ engines are the most reliables engines in the world. Back to the roots. No electronic. Over 32 years im driving Troopys without any problems.
@@gabyherrmann9894 you're absolutely correct. As long as you service it.. they last forever
Yeah mate the perfect off road warrior 100% & they've hardly changed over the years because there's no need to change what's not broke & works well hey,but the price is another story lol only the rich can afford them, great vid Johnny take care man.
its a hell of a lot of fun in the bush
A defender is more lower. But she does'nt live as long as aTL.
Literally my dream car. Can I buy one in Australia and ship it over to the states?
i dont think you can in the USA
@@RossReviewsau where I live in Washington state, you don't have to pass smog. I see people roll coal all the time in front of cops and not get a ticket. I'm sure this vehicle is fine. I was just curious if it was a possibility. Thank you for the reply!
@@leviblackwood3258 not sure if it is.. but wouldn't think so :(
@@leviblackwood3258 import from Japan 1997
The Americans would shell out hard core cash for one I’m not even kidding
your not wrong mate
I’m an American, who lives in Nicaragua, and I just bought a 2018 76 with 25,000 km on it. I’ve wanted one for years. I just had to move to Central America to finally get one.
79 series are ridiculously priced now because they don’t make them anymore. Some fetch over $150,000 they’re just not worth that much. They’re awesome but not that awesome!
think they are still making them.. but yeh the price is crazy..
@@RossReviewsau I can’t find any new ones in Australia. They’ve always got alot of kms on them. Can’t find one anywhere.
@@captaincook8283 you can order them from toyota but its very difficult to get on the list.. usually always sold out im told
I believe the 70 range is keeping the v8
Let’s hope forever 😂👏
they should do a modern 1HD-FTE simple balanced reliable fuel efferent i have a 105 with the 1HZ and it does 12L/100km a modern one could easily do better.
They have the six in South Africa in them
Can someone tell me if a 530000 kms 78 series would be worth going for? Like is the body cooked even if I get a new engine?
Rust is the biggest killer..
But with those kms, gearbox, diffs, fuel pump etc will all need attention soon if not done already.
The 1Hz straight six diesel usually gets around 1 million km.
I bought my 2004 HZJ78 at 550,000 km
It was previously a crane crew vehicle with an extra rear side door and 7 forward facing seats.
Makes a great camper with the rear seats removed.
I'm one of those envious Americans. However, I have an old 60 series that's my daily. I just need a few parts and I'll save a fortune.
Suppose you could crate that motor up and send it on a boat to me? 😅
Hope ya tell em over there. They a pricy not a cheap 4x4. Thanx
very expensive :(
I prefer it's V6 engine sound over the V8
“America wishes they could buy”
A truer statement couldn’t be said.
yup.. crazy they dont sell them there
Thong slapping down the road. Theyre slower than Na diesel 80series haha.
They definitely are not fast lol 😂
Dear Americans, this is like your Wrangler only superior in every way.
🤣🤣🤣 1000%
With all due respect. It's the Landcruiser America THINKS it wants. If the 78 was for sale there it wouldn't sell. One cupholder and no automatic option for a start....
probably right HAHA
Part of the attraction is the fact that as they are so basic there are a million ways to customise them. I think you’d see some specialists shops getting the basic models and tarting them up. I fully agree though, they are basically a tractor when you get a new one - although mine has the ‘luxury’ walnut look plastic on the steering wheel and dash :) My aerial is manual! The basic model you can get hold of in the UAE comes with… An AM only radio - it doesn’t even have FM!
Love the video mate 🤙 The used fourby market is stupid at the moment and like you said the prices being slapped on 70 series is insane to the point that even Toyota is hiking the price up 20k for dealer used 70s all because they are in stock and you don't have to wait for delivery 🥴 Would love a troopy one day though 👌
cheers mate.. yeh the prices are insane.. toyota must just be laughing all the way to the bank
Why dont they sell in u.s?
safety regulations im sure
@@RossReviewsau i wonder if they sell 4runners and tacomas in aus
Yeah, Amercians would hate any 70 series as a daily. And there's no place you can't get many vehicles fixed (except a 70 series)
Well...bye...
Americans would gladly trade the Rav4, Highlander, Sequoia, Tundra for this 😁
Facts I’m sure they would!
I way prefer the original round headlight front. Why did they have to make it look bland?
Also don't care for a V8 in these.
4 litre inline six is where it's at, whether petrol or diesel. Both sound delightful.
im going to be reviewing a petrol one soon
Very few cars for me age well in terms of styling. Old jaguars, and 70 series. Also, would a Mahindra technically be a competitor?
80’s rule
the best ;p
Haha if you got more than a year out of the cruise under ground that was always impressive lol nothing else last more than 6 months
It’s very true eh! Not much can last underground but the 70 series LC do the best
Yeah by far out last everything else haha
Those look like GMT800 Chevrolet Tow mirrors
HAHA kinda eh
4.5 is a small V8 …….. was there an inline 6 turbo diesel?
there was a inline 6 diesel! only sold in africa i think
@@RossReviewsau I think inline turbo diesel would be the right balance…
I want one in America
So wild they don’t offer them
70 series are everywhere in Mongolia.
true! they would be great over the tough conditions there
