This video just simply made my day. This was the LC that started my obsession with LC's. They were sold for a limited time in Canada back in the late 80's and early 90's. A friend of the family had one, it was a diesel, manual, left hand drive and what a beast it was. It was an almost deep gold colour. A 2 door 70series with an automatic transmission, now that’s rare. My family had the pickup version of this. A 75 series with the gas engine the 4.5 that you find in the 80 series. You could also fold the windshield in that if you where willing to take the top off witch was kinda of a hassle so we never did.
Roof removal a big job. Putting windshield down (all 40s have this feature) is cool, uo to 20mph, that anything above you ask yourself "why did I do this?" And realize why windshields were invented.
I own a LLC HZJ73, left hand drive, manual transmition, with front and rear diff lock, still in stock heigth with 31x10.5 R15, just a minor rust in the botton of the driver door, but don't have the roll cage (i wish ith had it). I think it is very slow on the road, but it kill offroad. Bullet proof engine.
I agree its not as fast as my Porsche... but, I have a total different mentality when I drive it. I have had the 1F engine before, and going uphill, you would have to downshift and struggle, however the diesel with about the same horsepower, just pulls like a freight train and doesnt downshift (in automatic). I just chill when driving the HZJ73, and enjoy the drive. One of the most pleasurable vehicles I have ever driven.
@Cruising The Land I agree with you and understand what you say "I have a totally different mindset when I drive it". It is not fast, but it never struggles, empty or fully loaded, but when going uphill, when passing other vehicles, I feel a lack of strength to regain speed. My HZJ73 is my daily driver, it changed my way of driving, more relaxed, more concise, enjoying the trip, without rush. We are in tune. Offroad, in low range, it crawl everything. Still don't use the difflock.

Hey Scott! Surprisingly it drives great, slow to get up to speed, but works... However... I am coastal at sea-level. I drove to Tucson and noticed a difference at higher ground and head on wind and heat, was sliggidh and the steep grades was like 35mph max... Struggle uphill.. But in Socal, it cruises at 80mph at 2200rpm.
Check out the 70 classifieds on mud. I drove the white one in Portland yesterday. I want it, but it needs to serve a purpose. Struggling with that part. It was an amazing vehicle

I have the same rig here in Maryland. I recently had ALCAN spring build me a set of front leafs so I can clear 35s. What offset wheels are you running?
I am starting on looking for one of these. This is a beautiful beast.
Are you in California?
@@CruisingTheLand No. Florida was looking at one from an importer but I miss out it was a 95 J71
I think FL is a good import state. You fill find one.
I love mine!
Cool 2dr LC.
Okay, love the 73, but I gotta ask...37's and the 1HZ? It has to be an absolute dog. Just drove one (5spd) and loved the nostalgic aspect but it's not gonna win any races and wont tow more than a pillow. Fyi, I also follow and am on mud. Love the channel.
The purpose is:
Putting a huge smile on your face.
I wish my brain worked that way sometimes!
nice ride! Looking on getting the LX70.
I have a couple LX470 review videos on the channel. The LX470 is a great vehicle 👍
Spring over axel proceeds to show leaf suspension 🙏
yes. SOA = Spring over axle.
thats refers to leaf springs.
@@CruisingTheLand ahhh yes that makes more sense spring over axel hear in Australia is always coil spring such as the 80 series and then lead is only referenced to leaf sprung never herd someone call a leaf car spring over axel Mabey a language Break from Aussie slang to American ✌🏼
I’ve got a HZJ73v as well. Killer rig ain’t it. I love it.
Awesome! Can these frp tops take a tent or some form of roof rack?
The FRP top cant hold a tent. I have seen bars, but they connect at the doors. This rig has the roll cage, so with the top off, I could mount a RTT
No , on how to get it registered in California. Met a guy in Ventura Ca that has a 73 Ca registered, but bought it like that .
Yes, I He is selling that HZJ73, I did a video on it on my channel about 2 months ago.
Some slipped through the cracks. If having a CA title is important for you, then get that one and do your transfer at AAA.
Your front shackle angle has an issue. There are some folks in SLC, UT that can help. Great SUV.
Which folks is that? LMK
@@CruisingTheLand Cruiser Outfitters
every second car on the highway in Australia is one of these with a tray back
Amazing land cruiser
Love it ,
LovelyCruiser. Not only are the tires a bit heavy for the rear door, the smaller door won't close with a 37" on the big door. I run 33"s and it only just clears the spare!
1HZ is a brilliant engine. Please don't turbo it, the pistons aren't designed for a turbo.
The timing belt change is really simple on the 1HZ, do that and change the oil and a million mile is the norm.
Great. The SOA lift definitely makes the difference for clearance to fit the 37s.
Yes, no plans to turbo.. cruises 80mph at 2200 RPM at sea level... just takes time to get there. I will do a HZ1 compare to the 12HT, now that I have 1000+ miles under the belt for both.
Do they make a square headlight version of this with removable top
Prado
Hello sir how did you ordered the vehicle from Japan
Hi! I need help! I have a 95 troopy with 2H engine, I’ll be moving to CA, how’s the registration process for this cars there? I heard something about installing a DPF filter and carbon filters in order to pass smog and proceed to register in CA, please help! Or guide could be helpful!
Thanks!
Register in AZ..
CA makes it difficult
I don’t know what you’re talking BJ70 i’m not a rare in America in Canada we have a bunch of those I just bought one for $12,000 lol
BJ70, what year? The HZJ73s are thr ones that are more rare. There is definitely more BJ70.. different engine.
Nice truck. Who did you use to import this vehicle?
Do you have any information on the process? I would like to purchase a truck , but tying to get information. Thanks
On importing?
You are best to work through a broker that is in Japan. This vehichle I purchased from someone that already imported
Does the 70's comes with a long chassis
Can I visit you next time I’m in the states to see your vehicles?
Yes, where are you from?
@@CruisingTheLand Australia….landcruiser country:)
@@komapaiim then the real question begs... Can I visit you when I am in Australia? Please? Will I see LCs everywhere I turn? Can we go wheeling? You are in Landcruiser paradise!
Love ur love for the cruisers im starting a lil business on shipping rare clean cruisers from the middle east to the us starting next month let me know if u needed any rare breeds
keep us posted with what you are sending... 70 series?
@@CruisingTheLand sub 100,000 miles white fzj75 pick up 1994 or a 1997 model. Original paint original interior all original basically on them both but still deciding which one i keep and probably a 72,000 miles same white but a shorty 1993 like yours but white original paint original interior tool kit and all . It would be intresting what they will bring in mecum really or if you want them they are urs haha
Super cool car! We're looking to get one too - do you know that the interior dimensions of the trunk are?
do you know what lift kit is on that? I would love to get a bit more height and some 35"s in there
These are 37s, and the lift is SOA, whichs means Springs over Axle. Since the leaf springs are attached to the frame, by putting them abive the axke bs below, this gives a 4" lift to the frame. But now you need to adjust some geometry, like the angle of the drivwshaft and length.
@@CruisingTheLand thank you. Beautiful truck
G’day mate! Checkout the “Bundera” version of these! Coils all way round! Rare beasts! Get one of these and drop an FTE in it! Sky’s the limit baby!

I will check it out!

I love this vehicle and I am into it we have many in Pakistan. Police and Army also keeps them but I want a classy and clean like this when its looks beautiful even without lifting and normal size tyres!! Everything about this SUV is amazing!!
Have you found a soft top? Easy to find parts?
There are softtops on Ebay for the 73
I see tons of these in venezuela and so cheap like for 15k some of them..
15k USD?
Yes thats a monster you got there..
What tyre size
37s
Just curious what the difference is from zx to lx? Seen a couple ads for a hzj73 lx mostly.
ZX is fully loaded. With roll cage inside too.

What is the green machine?
This will be the next vehicle I get. The last one I buy I hope. I'll be retired and won't need another for daily driving.
these motors do.go 1 million miles!
@@CruisingTheLand oh yes, I know. Another cool thing is you can make this land cruiser what you need it to be instead of accepting what the dealer gives you. Putting in a modern AC system, modern infotainment and leather seats would really be the only updates I would make. Oh yes, an old man emu suspension system and 33in wheels with chrome rims, winch, round out the changes. Ready for anything any time anywhere.
You know it’s good when you see them in every war
Where do you get aftermarket parts?
I’ve got an 1996 80 series Land Cruiser, automatic 197k miles non-triple locked.
I thinking about trading it for a 1988 Toyota lc FRP, with 152k miles in manual in rough condition. Exact same model and color as yours Thoughts?
I really like this car! Congratulations! It is a pity that these are no longer released. Spring suspension is reliability. A convertible is very cool to ride with a girl. But I don't understand why the rear doors are so tall. When the roof is removed from this car, the rear doors look like a flaw. It seems to me that it would be better to make one hinged rear door along the height of the body, and close the upper part with a hinged glass, like in Suzuki Samurai
Hello from Russia!
Yes true, the rrear doors must be removed when taking top off.
A food solution is a rear net in place imstead of buying half doors or tail gate.
@@CruisingTheLand agree with you
@@CruisingTheLand hello, i have a 1996 fzj 73. I have the soft top. Ever think about going that route?
@@saintarmstrong8790 yes I heard about the soft top. definitely cool. but pricey.
@@CruisingTheLand haha. I've seen your garage and driveway. Its Not that expensive.
Is that a standard old man emu 2 inch lift with spring over axles? And is the front axle moven to the front? Nice landcruiser man, I have a bj73 and would like to put some bigger tyres on
It is Spring over Axle, so about a 4" lift and 37" tires.
