Told someone about this and they informed me I was “wrong”.. can’t believe people still trust this company when selling and buying expensive products..
I tried to sell 185 dvds and they only accept 80 because of the quality which is fare as some were damaged but they only gave me £0.01 for each dvd (most were new releases). And then after I saw them put the prices on and they were selling them each at £1 to £2.
You are absolutely correct about the faulty returns and then it goes back into stock. My store even does this, I bought a gaming pc which was faulty last month via the cex website and they said they'd also have to warentee test, which is fine given it's a pc. But after I left they put it back onto to the window like they didn't believe what I had said for my reasoning to return...
i have no idea how i came down the youtube rabbit hole to your channel at 2am this morning, but safe to say im glad i did. been binge watching all day!
I can confirm that CeX don't require a manual for boxed retro. The box has to function as a box (not broken) and the cover art (sleeve, inlay etc). Other than PC games with cd keys on them and Rule of Rose for the PS2, manuals are not required for boxed prices.
i remember trading in my old xbox on x with cex, Had the original box it came in with everything with it. They gave me the unboxed price and said boxed is only for new items that havent been opened... Thinning back at it after this video im sure i got scammed xD
Thing is, u may have sold it as faulty, they could've ran it through there test and it show as fine. It's a dod eat dog world, when It comes to selling. Sucks I know..
I returned a faulty disc recently myself and they also put it back out for sale - in fact the employee told me he was going to do this. I said but it doesn’t work, it’s scratched to bits… but he said it looked fine and would work. It was a Blu-ray disc as well… someone must have took a knife to it to scratch it as bad as it was. He also said I couldn’t have a cash refund - I used voucher to buy it so that wasn’t relevant… but faulty items should be covered for 30 days and they should be giving cash refunds when you pay with cash. I’ll be interested to see what they say if you are able to ask about the faulty items they’ve put back out of yours. It seems different stores follow different rules.
Boxed = has box Complete in box = has box an manual Cex doesnt have a complete in box option as they never guarantee a manual complete in box is a very common term in collecting as is boxed im surprised you didnt know that
Cex is also part franchise part corporate and franchise owners may change some rules in the store e.g. boxed items must be complete it’s crappy but i looked it up and legally they have to let franchise owners do stuff like that i don’t know what store you went to but i imagine it was either a franchise store or a new worker in which case its interesting how you’re immediate reaction is “maybe he just doesn’t like me”
Also no disrespect but if you disagree with them trading in such a way why would you continue to give them your business and publicity through your videos? Theres many pre owned game stores so why not go elsewhere?
Not gaming related but I purchased a Sonos One speaker from one of my local CEX stores, it was advertised as condition A. When they give me the speaker there was no power cable, no Ethernet cable and no instruction manual + lots of the packaging missing and a small mark on the front of the speaker. Who ever traded it in would have, I’m sure, been given a condition C price for it. Watch em!
I stopped selling and trading in with CEX years ago. Lads of incidents but the last straw was when I traded in an unused boxed Xbox controller and they gave me the buy in price , then sold me the titles resulting in nearly £9 difference. This resulted in loads of arguments and althonthe agreed (eventually) to credit me the difference, I've never been back.
I saw a week ago that the ps5 controllers are dropped down from £41 pound trade in to £30 pounds CEX are ripping customers off I stayed clear I won't go back
I had the exact same issue today 03/03/2024 at the Merthyr store they told me theyd take my boxed copy of resident evil 2 n64 as unboxed because there was no manual... No thank you!
Tbh CeX’s business model is to just take advantage of people offloading stuff they don’t want. They are like music magpie they take all the risk buying stuff you dont want for dirt cheap and then take on the hassle of selling it at profit. Thats fine, no issues there but I think you have to be wary and take it all with a pinch of salt.
Depends if the store is corporate or franchise tbf. But on the same token the rules do change, not all the time vut it does happen. The costs chabge every day and can vary massively but this is all done at a corporate level, not store. If you ever arent sure on something just ask a manager. Every store has access to the company wise rules, so if youve been shafted its most likely due to lack of training. Source, worked there for years as a TL
CEX are pure scammers. I traded in a smartphone in immaculate condition and they took it for testing🧐 then when I went back nearly an hour later they like if you look on the screen🤔 really really close🧐🧐there's a small surface micro scratch (I can tell you there certainly was not as I checked it and also it had always had a screen protector on) so in the end they knocked the price down. 🙄🙄 All wasn't lost, I did purchase a Nintendo Ds lite at bargain price, reshelled it, sorted out the bent cartridge slot pins and now it's worth more than I paid them for it 😌
Cex shop in my town I really don't know why there trading went in last week and had a walk round basically there wasn't much on offer in the shop I was looking for some laptop memory and nothing for sale
Don’t get me started with CEX. I’ve just found out they now sell A grade watches WITHOUT a strap. How does that make it A grade. My understanding was that A grade meant the item is complete. Lmao.
Think you need to learn how business work 😅 It’s not one corporate body CeX work in franchises so rules, expectations and quality will differ store to store.
With testing the cart, I imagine they want to check it really doesn't work before returning money. So they could turn around and say "works fine in store, so must be a problem with your megadrive. And btw you're outside the two day return period for working items".
CEX seem to offer really low prices for retro games. I remember back in the day when these games came out they were expensive, now for some of them even boxed CEX will only give you £5 and then sell it for £20, 30, 40.
People that work at cex usually aren't the brightest pixies in the forest. At the Cardiff store they thought the apple watch was called the iwatch and they didn't even know what it means to unlock an android bootloader 😂😂 they don't even wear uniforms lol
I remember around July last year I bought a backwards compatible PS3 from the Pontypridd store. Worked fine for the first day but after that, it started over hating and shutting down. It just wouldn't stay on for more than 30 seconds. I tried everything from moving it on top of my cabinet to using a hair dryer to blow some of the dust out. In the end, I just said "s**ew it" and decided to take it back. Fast forward to later that same day and I'm at the Pontypridd store trying to return the PS3. The person behind the counter says he needs to book it for a test, I was thinking "they should just take it as long as I have the receipt and it's been less than 2 days since I bought it". Come an hour later, the person testing the PS3 says there was no trouble with it and was not overheating, so that was a weird experience.
New to your channel and here to stay. Loving your content! Into the retro stuff myself...anything Sega Game Gear/Master System/Mega Drive and Nintendo Gameboy/Colour and I'm there! Exactly the same story as you here. I bought a Master System game from my local CeX store, got it home, wouldn't even load at all, just a glitchy picture. Like you, I cleaned all the pins and tried everything I possibly could to get it working. Zero luck. Returned it with no issue, as they had nothing in-store to test it themselves. Next time I go in the store, it's back on their shelf for sale again! Hilarious! :D
Wasn't a game I brought was a Blu-ray film was point break. Out on shop floor had the original film with Keanu and swayze. But the disc was the remake. Never noticed it and returned it after 4 days. Said has to be a voucher cos of being 2 days. Not like I haven't got to work as well. But they gave me the voucher and went back couple days later and found they put it back on the shelve for resale. Plus in my local cex they have a bad habit of can't find the disc when you bring the case up.
The Newport Store has checked cartridge games a couple of times when I've traded/sold but majority of the time they just look at them to see if look OK.... also I have had the same problem where I've been given unboxed prices without manual and other times boxed price. It literally makes zero sense. Staff are always nice in there though so not to many complaints, I just won't take in anything without a manual as I can't be bothered with the hassle
I've seen the same game on the website in the same store being readvertised again and again and again. Cardiff store for months had one copy of Wii u Phineas and Ferb quest for cool stuff (a rare game). I've tried to buy it multiple times, got confirmation email then 3 days later it was refunded, many days later money back in my account. Then the game back on site, same store. There are serious issues with their stocking systems.
There seem to be a growing number of games for which CEX need manuals eg Otogi on the Xbox, Megaman on the PSP. Typing in manual as a search on the app will bring them up. Still a small proportion of the games they sell though.
I suspect the guy originally that kicked off this whole thing might have just got it wrong. The returns test is out of order if you bought it off them, I get it before they accept it, it should be tested and checked however, can they keep someone waiting about who they can buy a game cheap from for next to nothing? No, I imagine they will take in stock for peanuts and resell at a profit so just accept the trade. However if you take it back as unworking or even fake then that hits their profit so will be more likely to check it in greater detail. Yeah, a bit naughty.
CeX don't require manuals for Boxed only but Boxed needs to have a box that closes etc. I would say that CeX hires young people for minimum wage so they were just uniformed and probably aren't aware of that.
One time I traded a gaming mouse (Corsair M65) for a Razer Mamba. The Razer did not work properly so I brought it back, asking for a refund. They gave me back my Corsair and it was destroyed. The two buttons where pulled up and it was unusable. I had to make some stories to prove they did it and they gave me a refund. Bad experience.
it's down to poor training and differences between how franchises want to do business and the company rules on the subject. personally all boxed games should have the manual especially considering the price difference.
I suppose I’m quite lucky, Iv been going to my local CEX in Middlesbrough for as long as I can remember and Iv never had an issue. Staff are always super helpful without interfering too much. Never felt ripped off or felt scammed. And now with the new one open just a minute walk away Iv got 2 superb stores to visit. Then again I only collect modern-ish games (PlayStation-ps4)
CEX runs a franchise system. A fair number (most?) are not actually CEX per se but their own local company trading as CEX. There are obviously rules franchisees need to abide by to be allowed to trade under that name, but I suppose to a certain extent they are their own companies with their own rules. Trading standards does mean they should be consistent in the rules they apply. I've found my local CEX differs depending whose behind the counter. Online is an whole other kettle of fish. Everytime I've tryed trading online they've come up with excuses to downgrade. I had to fight to get the right price for a near mint boxed Series X!
CeX’s are franchises like McDonald’s , they are individually owned which is why what one might except. Another one won’t! My local 2 which are owned by the same guy are quite picky especially with retro stuff as it’s quite expensive and most people who collect retro games etc want it complete otherwise it either doesn’t get bought in shop or it gets returned online! Very few people pay good doe for stuff without it being complete,
Something that’s interesting and downright shameful with Gamecube games (big box editions). Mario party 6 (not big box) £60 Big box version (states it comes with big box and manual, microphone etc) £105. This is fair as it states with big box manual etc. But Mario party 7 (with mic) states nothing about the big box being included, but shows it in the photo is £130. The regular version is £115. So they charge £15 for the microphone as it’s not guaranteed with anything else, but the microphone is £6 on its own. Even worse with ‘Zelda Four Swords’ £60 for the regular version. £98 for the version with Mic. Which should have a big box etc, but isn’t guaranteed. So only thing that’s guaranteed is a £6 mic. Which they’re charging £38 extra for! MADNESS!
A couple of things I'm wondering. 1. What's stopping anyone from buying a game that has the manual, keeping the manual and returning the game. They don't always check games on return and don't state when purchased on receipt that it came with a manual. 2. They don't open up carts when they buy them (my local branch doesn't anyway) and I highly doubt they'd let me do it in the shop when buying. So, what happens if I buy a game, it turns out to be fake/or i hadn't checked and it just didn't work. Go to return it and when they check they find out it's fake and accuse me.
Did they wear balaclavas mate when they told you the trade in price? daylight robbery. Find any reason not to take them in at the higher value just had a experience myself at my local. Told them to get proverbially f**’ed 😂
Meh, I took an old Nikon camera to the CEX in Town last week, they "tested" it and said they wouldn't take it because according to them, the battery wouldn't hold charge! I was literally like, what the actual fuck? So I wouldn't be able to flog it on eBay except for parts/non working? The guy said maybe.
Thanks for the video,we need people like you who are not afraid to lift up the rock and see what's underneath. If they are reselling faulty items, then this indeed is very very bad. 👍🏾
I was shopping for a decent phone so went in there and all the phones were in a less than great state but was told a Grade 1 was in another store, they would ship it up and I could collect it so I took time off work just for this reason. We are talking 500 quid so marginally cheaper than market price but a decent deal. Great, day off work, I'll spend it sorting out the phone. Nope, got there and was told sorry, it's been sold already at the original store. I won't go on.
i tried to sell a laptop to cex with a diffrent power supply but it worked better with it so a no go went to cash generators they payed for it for above going price
Nobody reads the manuals anyway because the majority of the info in them's A) Too small to read B) Might as well be in Mandarin Chinese C) Is freely available, in English, online.
We share the same local cex and I must say I have had issues with multiple trade ins there, which knocked my confidence in cex. I have been to the merthyr, Cardiff, Newport etc and all have taken in games that cwmbran wouldn't for various reasons. So glad to see it is not just me and now I will be questioning them too 😁
i have found this series so interesting as i have been tempted to make a similar series on my channel(also based in sounth wales btw) but based on the way they handle Solo Board Games. Stay Hexy!
I mind buying a ps4 out of my local cex it was scratch the game play ok I finish it inside a week coz was holding its value when I took it back to get a voucher they where going g to charge me a pound coz it was scratch I told them I got this last week in that state mate 👍👍
I took a wii boxed in to local cex and they tried to give me Unboxed price as the wii console had a couple of scratches on it box was mint had all booklets there a joke for it
I suffered a similar problem with cex but with regards to a dodgy pad, i live in nottingham and purchased a xbox one x a few years ago from one of the stores in our city centre…suddenly when playing forza horizon 4 the car would drift to the right, did a test and the controller had drift, took it to my local cex store and the chap behind the desk would not take it in! Said i would have to take the console in also! I said im only wanting a replacement and would not budge, had to get on the bus and waste almost a 5er to get the controller swapped, the guy in the store where i brought the system said some stores are employed by some right dopey f*ckers.
@film fan i think it was more of a case that they did not want to help, i messaged cex on twitter and they said the store was wrong and you can return stuff for a replacement at any store.
@film fan yes sorted in the end but had another issue with cex when they tried to rob me out of 100 pounds due to a bit of dust on the charging port of the phone i sold them.
orry but this show is fucking joke the products such as games should be reduced more and some of them are even more expensive then new one in foil this is joke another example samsung flip 1000 and new is 1100 i dont get it
I'm sure cex are franchise but whatever get over it you don't complain when you buy something for a pound and they give you a tenner trade I watch nearly all UA-cam that do this kind of thing its what I do and your the 1st I'm gonna unsubscribe I find you very very annoying
I’ve just found with CeX, that they do want they want and there isn’t any rules. If it wasn’t for trade ins, I’d never use CeX because as a store they’re terrible.
Told someone about this and they informed me I was “wrong”.. can’t believe people still trust this company when selling and buying expensive products..
Told someone about this and they informed me I was “wrong”.. can’t believe people still trust this company when selling and buying expensive products..
Upset Cex selling a game without a manual at box price but happily buys games worth £50 for £1 when the seller isn't aware of the value 😂
Hahaha
Yeah but CEX is a commercial enterprise! Buying private is didn't..
@@patrickkelly6590 doesn't make it right
I tried to sell 185 dvds and they only accept 80 because of the quality which is fare as some were damaged but they only gave me £0.01 for each dvd (most were new releases). And then after I saw them put the prices on and they were selling them each at £1 to £2.

This and the football shirt series are some of my favourite stuff on UA-cam atm
Huh, didn’t expect to see you here

Mate. Your local CEX…they have a nickname for you.
That’s called up selling. Buying it in as unboxed but selling it as boxed. Not fair on the customers!
It has a box,so it’s boxed. If it has a manual it’s cib, complete in box.

Dont let one bad experience ruin it for ya lad, they are total morons though.
My lical cex doesn't even appear on their list of branches
I traded in my xbox one s and then they said it was unboxed because i didn't have original foam. Cex High Wycombe
Interesting. Mind you I've always traded consoles in game in Wycombe lol

Spill the tea mate, glad the channel
Is seeing some deserved growth.

yeah like reprint covers of games and sell them at full price

My local 2 which are owned by the same guy are quite picky especially with retro stuff as it’s quite expensive and most people who collect retro games etc want it complete otherwise it either doesn’t get bought in shop or it gets returned online! Very few people pay good doe for stuff without it being complete,
Something that’s interesting and downright shameful with Gamecube games (big box editions).
Mario party 6 (not big box) £60
Big box version (states it comes with big box and manual, microphone etc) £105.
Even worse with ‘Zelda Four Swords’
£60 for the regular version.
Do CEX have T&C's online anywhere? If they aren't keeping to these can you escalate to Head Office?
They do but nobody reads the terms and conditions on anything these days, that's why the likes of CEX get away with stuff.
But was it in the box?
i tried to sell a laptop to cex with a diffrent power supply but it worked better with it so a no go went to cash generators they payed for it for above going price
shouldnt there be a 3rd criteria like on selling sites, evilbay etc, such as FULL, so you know youre getting the box, cart AND manual?
Nobody reads the manuals anyway because the majority of the info in them's A) Too small to read B) Might as well be in Mandarin Chinese C) Is freely available, in English, online.
We share the same local cex and I must say I have had issues with multiple trade ins there, which knocked my confidence in cex. I have been to the merthyr, Cardiff, Newport etc and all have taken in games that cwmbran wouldn't for various reasons. So glad to see it is not just me and now I will be questioning them too 😁
There making sure your not lying im afraid 😂😂😂😂😂😂3😂😂😂😂😂
i have found this series so interesting as i have been tempted to make a similar series on my channel(also based in sounth wales btw) but based on the way they handle Solo Board Games. Stay Hexy!
Ive got a slogan too
"dont dress like a hooker if you dont wanna get raped"
It needs work but im happy with the concept.
The sell games with no front cover but you can't trade in a game with no front cover
What website did you buy the mega drive from? I don’t recognise it
Cex under retros
It's a total minefield. Seems CEX need to do a whole load of staff retraining.
I mind buying a ps4 out of my local cex it was scratch the game play ok I finish it inside a week coz was holding its value when I took it back to get a voucher they where going g to charge me a pound coz it was scratch I told them I got this last week in that state mate 👍👍
what's knew they took my GTA v yrs ago after it wouldn't work on the 360 two hrs later it was back on sale
Your local store must be starting to get annoyed with you 🤣🤣
I took a wii boxed in to local cex and they tried to give me Unboxed price as the wii console had a couple of scratches on it box was mint had all booklets there a joke for it
I suffered a similar problem with cex but with regards to a dodgy pad, i live in nottingham and purchased a xbox one x a few years ago from one of the stores in our city centre…suddenly when playing forza horizon 4 the car would drift to the right, did a test and the controller had drift, took it to my local cex store and the chap behind the desk would not take it in!
@film fan yes mate was all sorted, just very annoying.
@film fan yes sorted in the end but had another issue with cex when they tried to rob me out of 100 pounds due to a bit of dust on the charging port of the phone i sold them.
What an absolute mess
Cex used to be good but it didn't last long
Cex are very suspicious lol
Be quick with the video 😃👍
orry but this show is fucking joke the products such as games should be reduced more and some of them are even more expensive then new one in foil this is joke another example samsung flip 1000 and new is 1100 i dont get it
cheek, I'm from Merthyr 😂😂😂
Cex is cool
cex has always been dodgy like game too
I'm sure cex are franchise but whatever get over it you don't complain when you buy something for a pound and they give you a tenner trade I watch nearly all UA-cam that do this kind of thing its what I do and your the 1st I'm gonna unsubscribe I find you very very annoying
This isn't a airport you don't have to announce your departure bellend
If an employee tries to rip you off go and get the manager. That's what I do.
