As an Ex employee of CEX i can completely confirm that they do do that with faulty retro games. Even if they confirm it to be faulty, they will put it back on sale in the hopes that the person buying it cant be bothered with the hastle of returning it
This happened to me with mariokart 7, thankfully they switched it with a working one, no hassle, but i doubt they took my mk7 cartridge off sale

This is the company that will give you £522 for a 512gb A condition steam deck ( basically brand new ) and then sell it on for £900 . A £378 profit, this is the price they are offering today the 19th of August.

To be fair, you didn’t have to sell it to them. They’re obviously going to try and low ball you whereas if you sell it independently, you will make much more.
I don’t understand why people pawn stuff to these kind of stores and then complain that the store is making a profit.
I actually went to sell a brand new phone in my local CEX and it was a new worker behind the counter. He was arguing that he could see a scratch on the screen and which meant they would have given me hundreds less. He didn't realise i knew most of the staff, and it took another member of staff to basically tell him he was seeing things that weren't there. @johnnyfreespeech5815
I ordered some 4K Blu Rays online and one of the Parcels was sealed but completely empty. I have been dealing with the terrible Customer Support to get this rectified and all I had back was that the store confirmed that they sent it even though I provided photographic evidence that it was flat and empty before opening it. I just assumed the Collectors Poster, Artcards and Slipcover were inside as they couldn't source it from one branch and the Blu Rays would arrive another day but nope! They're blaming Royal Mail when the Parcel was intact!! Now I have to wait 14 working days for either a thief within one of their branches or a simple mistake of sending it before the blu rays were put into the Parcel and they don't want to own up to their mistake.
If nothing is done about this then I will take them to Trading Standards!
The reason a lot of CEX stores do this is 1. because they can not be bothered to test the game. 2. they hope they can sell it to someone else who won't bring it back. I would sell the knackered SF2 to CEX for £12 credit! lol
My local cex doesn't do that, but town near me does do it all of the time! I haven't had a game not work at my local cex in atleast a couple years though but the town over I've had multiple games not work.. still better than my local cash converters😂

I received a snes game from CeX didn’t work was gonna take it back , but then decided to put some alcohol on a cotton bud ! Put it on the connectors cleaned them up, (loads of dirt came off) and did the job, don’t think they test any of them!

I bought a steering wheel for xbox and when tried it, it was permanently pulling to one side. When I took it back they tried to blame me for setting it up wrong. 2 days later it was back on sale

I bought a game from cex once and found it cheaper in cash converters so took the game back about 15 minutes later and they wouldn't except it because they said it's scratched. That's how dodgy cex is.

Yep it as happend to me my friend bought a PC game, installed it and was asked to put the game key code in and what a surprise it had been used so had to pay for the key code. So I had to take it back and told them and they have put it back on the shelf. So I tested them to see if they do test thing and that's a fat NO
I've taken back several faulty cart/disc games to my local CEX and though I don't 100% know, but I bet exactly the same thing... they wait until you leave and then just put it back up for sale, and when I say local .. it's about 15 miles away, so as you say, they will just keep putting these returns out, sell them and hope they don't get returned. Its a very poor business model that at least for me erodes any confidence in the store brand. I only go to them because on the high street, options for games are now very limited.
Meh, I took an old Nikon camera to CEX in Town last week, they tested it and said they wouldn't take it because the battery wouldn't hold charge! I was literally like, WTF?!
Get back to Regenerate and get that copy of Alundra 2 if it's a good price. Complete and good condition it's worth about £30.

This happened to me one time I bought Mario party 4 on the gamecube from the store as soon as I got out the store I looked at the disk and it was all scratched and cracked in the middle the thing that shook me was that the worker looked at the disk for about 10 seconds before putting it in the box. It surprises me as they would not take a disk in bad condition as that but they offered a refund and when I go back in that store the same Mario party 4 Is still there.
I can’t say I’m surprised about CeX putting faulty stock back on the shelf I’ve took back a few Blu rays before because they’ve skipped or not worked and they just refund you and resell it even though you tell them it’s not working and is scratched
I only used CEX once. I got PS3 end of 2010. I got it with red dead redemption. I wanted to buy a few games and I decided to give CEX a go. Don’t have any gaming shops around here. I spent about £80 for about 4 or 5 pre owned games. Firstly, the cases was so horribly dirty. All of em. 2nd I went to play fallout 3 game of the year edition, 2 weeks after I bought it and realised right away that they didn’t give me goty edition. I went back to the store, with my receipt and explained, thinking they’d apologise and give me proper version. To my horror, the prick on the till , refused to exchange it. First he said that I should have gone back after 2 days max. I explained that I didn’t try the game for 14 days and as I have receipt, I’m due a replacement and then he says, how do I know your not lying and didn’t swap the disc around. At this time, I had enough and just left the store and would never ever go back there ever again. They actually did me a favour because all their games are in utter shit condition and I instantly stated buying online. Amazon EBay etc. 1 seller on Amazon that I love is called MusicMagpie. They always have cheapest price on pre owned games and they are absolutely ALWAYS in near perfect condition and if you was to have any problems, they will make it right. Only issue I had, I bought a music Cd and the case had a crack. I messed them asking if they could possibly send a new case, as they have have had some and they replied saying sorry. They sent me another copy of the Cd and let me keep the original. I also buy really cheap wildlife documentaries David Attenborough etc from MusicMagpie. Even if on the odd chance, a seller is a few pound cheaper then MusicMagpie, I still stay with MusicMagpie. Excellent seller.
I bought a router from there a while back, took it home and it wouldn't allow internet to come through no matter what I did. I'm pretty savvy with this stuff too. I took it back and explained what was happening, they tested it and recreated the fault. I got a refund, went back the next day, there it is on the shelf, for sale, at the same price I paid.
Mark them with a UV pen… could be a good way to expose bad practice…
For sure. I can't take anything in to them with even a smudged finger print on but they can sell you stuff that looks like people have been eating fish and chips off it with a steak knife and trident
@@ianmitchell4742 I have had all sorts of problems when trying to sell Apple stuff that they say has not had Find My switched off … this week spent £140 on a pair of Apple AirPods Pro - got them home only to discover they are linked to the former owners Apple ID… WTF!?! Such poor service and could not care less attitude if their staff when we returned them… challenged them about how it could happen if they “test and check”… too hard a question and no answer was offered… CEX have gone down in my estimation over recent months.
Genuinely don't understand the kind of people who intentionally start arguments with retail staff. Like literally where does being aggressive get you?
if the staff are aggressive to you then give it back simple guess your one of the retail workers who think they are always right
It's not directly their fault, I know from experience that CEX generally employs students, most of whom have the intelligence of a flippin' tea pot.

Hi I saw you down sully that’s day , I have a story from the same seller , I picked up the other 2 guitar hero he had for sale and also he sold me a mega drive with astrix and sonic 3 both boxed with Manuel for £25 I think it was later on after you so he must have found them later on
I bought a ps4 Controller, 45 pound, then I bought a charger wire 7 pound, the controller would not charge, took it back they said as we tested it nothing we could do. So I had to fork out another 50 pound and got a brand new one from game. I tried to complain to head office you have to start an account and it wouldn't except my email address any way, won't ever go there again.

Thats bad behaviour from that store, however I think they are less likely to have older consoles to check games on than newer consoles like ps3, ps2, xbox 360, wii etc. That cartridge might have internal damage like loose solder, a faulty trace or a dead internal battery which hasn't been checked yet. The actual chips on the inside of the cart probably just need reflowed with fresh solder and then it would work again. There’s a guy on YT who does the same with gameboy games and has fixed loads from eBay.
Had this with london 2012 on Wii, took it back as was faulty, (none on shop shelf) mine and a tear in the manual, went back next day and guess what was on the shelf…. Told them I knew it was the faulty on I took back and they reckon they tested it and it was fine
They are sly as I have had this happen to me also. Majority of the time my games are fine but the odd one is messed up

It's like anywhere I worked stuff doesn't get done right.. Even the good employees that care end up caving in and just let shit slid, if the manager doesn't care why would the employees care!

I think a lot of people trade their crap to CEX knowing its not tested properly or tested at all.
One thing i can say with 100% certainty is everything that's sold to CEX is checked before they pay you, what they do with returns is another matter.

it's not a place I can recommend for collector's. there's no grading system. I've had games through the post without manuals and properly scratched discs.
also they sell lot's of stolen and faulty items

I rem my local cex shop I got I ps4 out off it 4 or 5 years the one they give me wasnt working when I took it back they try to say it was tested etc it wouldn't power on with me I said to have a look at it so they and they said they were sorry and give me another mate didn't had any problems with it since 👍
I've got fifa 96 on the megadrive but I haven't got the console is it worth me trading it in now or is it worth holding on to and is it worth me buying 360 ps2 and ps3 games as I'm collecting them due to I think that they will go up in price soon

Megadrive games are worth about 50p if that nowadays unless you flog 'em on eBay.
Don't buy at CEX if your not happy with them
It’s annoying revisiting old games that you loved sometimes. I had it playing syphon filter on the new ps plus service. I used to love that game. Now… it’s terrible.
CEX are horrible. I bought an original PSone Tom Rraider. Got home and I noticed it was a PC tombnaider game in the box. I tried to return it to CEX but they wouldnt believe me. Their endless mistakes with buying online.... You can lirrerally PAY MORE for a NON playstation hits witcher 3... But then you end getting a cheper version of a playstation hits witcher 3. Dealing with CEX is just not worth it.

cex takes the piss i took in a laptop to sell with with a diffrent power cord worked great no we cant take it i said so if i buy a proper power supply cable would you buy it no cos you brought it in with the wrong cable the staff make there own rules
They do this with steelbooks, games, films.. they do this because they do not want to loose money, i have seen staff buy in foreign games by mistake and then told to put a uk pegi sticker on it, it's all wrong tbh.
I have seen lots of cheaper American import Nintendo ds games in CEX over the years.
sorry but this show is fucking joke the products such as games should be reduced more and some of them are even more expensive then new one in foil this is joke another example samsung flip 1000 and new is 1100 i dont get it
