It was hideous as my parents didn't take me seriously, and even punishing me, for suggestions and critics I provided as I was younger. I plan on taking my kids seriously when I have them.
Yes
I plan on getting emancipated. I don’t believe it’s right nor practical how much power parents hold over their children, especially over their younger pre teens and teenagers. Youngism or ageism is definitely a prominent issue facing society. And many minors are so desensitized to it that they don’t even bring it up. The concept of discrimination against one’s youth has been normalized to the point where many adults in the US just laugh if you bring up the notion of ageism. So many teenagers get abused or are forced to endure awful circumstances because of the way they are looked at. Because of all of the things they are not allowed to do; such as get a job before 16, and own property (cars or land).
Minors are the most litigationally limited demographic in the world, and society doesn’t seem to have an issue with changing it. But I’ve seen what it’s like when a minor truly believes themself to be worth just as much as an adult. They are capable of much more than media will have one believe.
Minors miss out on so much because of the stereotypes placed around maturity at certain ages, and no one ever seems to question that these immature attributes that stem these harmful stereotypes- may only exist due to the fact that minors are so heavily treated like less. We are told from a young age what we are allowed and not allowed to do, we are controlled like cattle throughout childhood and teenage-hood, and are told all the things we can’t do because of prejudice, because of stereotypes.
Many of us don’t even get to grow into anyone more “mature for their age” because we are automatically labeled as the opposite. How can you expect more from something great if you condition it to believe that it is not ready, that it can’t do it, that what they are now is not enough for greatness and success? It is such a backwards concept to me. Expecting more from this teenager who you won’t even allow freedoms to their own body, from this teenager who is not allowed to go outside unless they ask, who’s parents are controlling because they “have a right to be”, constantly invading the teenager’s privacy and reminding them of how little choice they have in anything. It isn’t right, and it doesn’t make sense how little people have thought about it when It is so prominent.
So many issues with a system taken so much less serious than it should be. Youth are the future, and when you indoctrinate children throughout their teenage years to believe they are less than human, and restrict their right to get away from situations detrimental to their ongoing mental and or physical well being, you’ve fuck up their early lives, and future.
@@hunterblack1113 hell yeah!! Hunter I am 38 years old, and a staunch youth rights supporter! Preach it!
@Channel 310 I remember you from the now privated youngism video. I also feel like my age is used as an excuse to limit me and other teens. My school has lost so much control over students behavior that now they’re infantilizating more than ever. And it’s really ageist. I wish this wasn’t normalized in school and everywhere else
Once you grow up you'll realize how dumb we were as kids.
Something I noticed that makes me insanely angry is when older people genuinely think they get to MISTREAT or DISRESPECT, or even take advantage of and ABUSE others simply because they’re older than someone. I think it’s a disgusting and extremely unhealthy mentality and needs to be stopped. To me, hearing someone saying "When you get older" is the same thing as a ghost saying "When you die."

@@REALdavidmiscarriage Or you can also spear them the insult and say, "You may not be ready yet." I mean, if you are truly over 30. For real. It's youngism in itself. They'll holler abt ageism but once the young person speaks up they slap us right back down
@@--s.s.c-- Exactly! Ageism on both sides is harmful, if we want to abolish ageism of all types, both sides need to acknowlegde each side of ageism. But many older people don't do that, and talk about how the younger generation is so screwed up, even though many people nowadays of all generations have screwed up values, and them bashing us like this is screwed up

I hate when people mute young people.
It’s very aggravating when they’d feel the same way as us in our situation, but then forget about it.
I’ve had a bad experience with this. At 24, I became a manager of an aquatic facility, where we had a lot of seniors come swim at the pool. But higher management required all staff, including me, to wear the same uniform, so I looked like one of the lifeguards. And it didn’t help that I look very young, and am a little smaller than the average person. So one day, this older man comes to swim, and does not abide by one of our rules. He argues with the lifeguards, then they come get me. But he doesn’t even talk to me, and continues to break the rule. He doesn’t even acknowledge the fact that I tell him I am the manager, or standing right in front of him. I go get one of the security guards, who is wearing a polo, and slacks, and is a little older and a larger person than me. The old man talks to him without any problem, and even apologizes for breaking the rule! He then goes to say he didn’t talk to me because I look too young to be a manager. I was outraged because this man specifically chose not to listen to me just because of how young I was!

That is blatant ageism from the older man to say you are too young to be a manager. I knew a man who was a manager of a factory at 29. It is not about age but about ability. You can manage a factory at 18 for example, as good as you can at 68. Dont tell David Miscarriage though, who seems to lick these tyrannical older people's boots.
When I was young i faced sexism, racism, and youngism ... plus I was poor....and faced discrimination in education, at work, in religious groups, and socially e.g. sports. What really helps is mobility so you can find people who like you and appreciate you. It is more often than not a waste of time and resources trying to get people who hate you to change their minds and then like you... rather it is easier to set up relationship with people who going to like and appreciate what you can do from the very start . That is to say adversarial games and relationship have a very high cost and unless there is a big benefit /payoff to them - they are not worth it. Cooperative games and favorable relationships have a lower cost and work best when they are repeatable and persistently valuable... even more important when you are young you need to be able to identify personality disorders that can make certain people dangerous or difficult to be around... so you can minimize your risk of getting hurt by them.
You are quite the victim

@@a-the-na6901 oh ok
The discussion about the differences between young and old people has been since ever. And everyone knows about ageism. But what about youngism? Youngism is the discrimination against young people.
In the following I’m going to comment on the video: `Are young people discriminated against for being young? ` Whether young people are discriminated against or not.
First of all, old people tend to persuade to the younger generation that they can be lucky to have such an easy life and that they didn’t had to work to hard at a young age. And all that even if they don’t know how hard the younger works. Hard work today could be different from back then but that doesn’t have to mean that it’s easier.
One of the probably most heard sentences of young people, spoken from grown ups is: “Have a bit more of respect”. They say it, even if they don’t respect the younger one. Everyone should respect the other one, despite their age. And getting no respect can influence a young person’s life badly.
On the other side, young people have way less experience than older ones. That’s why they often act reckless, for example make accidents or fall for the wrong people. Despite what mother says, sometimes you have to experience the pain yourself to not do it again and act more consciously.
To sum up, old people often underestimate younger generations. Also, they not always show respect or take young people serious enough young people, especially minors. Just because they haven’t had so much experience in life, doesn’t mean that they have less common sense. On the contrary. Often minors have even more of that than elder people. I personally think that we can solve this if we meet everyone without prejudice, despite their age and listen what the other has to say.
(Have to do this fo mf school, not voluntarily, dont judge lmfao i wan cry)
That really does happen a lot
It's just a way for old people to feel better about themselves by putting other people down. It's hard to do that to people older than you, so you have to punch down
Why do younger people then hate on people older than them so much. Some even acting like they are superior. It's quite pathetic how unapologetic and aggressive many are about it. Worst is if you are caught between younger and older people doing both their type of agism, and you getting the hate projected on from both sides.
@@aronhighgrove4100 if you were oppressed, you would be unapologetic and hateful too. they have every right to be upset.

That’s like saying “LOLOL you don’t eat bagel bites for dinner and work 12 hours just to get paid 2¢” and then old people saying “I hate this generation” well excuse me for being born after you jeez. People say “why do kids hate when people call them young, that’s a good thing” well it’s because people bully us because of it.

I think that youngism is something that the society creates to justify the fact of the young people can’t do certain things just because of their age. I agree with the facts that young people is the future and we need to respect them, everyone deserves respect. By Laura C.
Same with ageism. People randomly start to hate on people and assume things solely based on the number you tell them. It's ridiculous and limiting for no reason.
However, in our quicly changing world young specialists often work more effective and have plenty of interesting ideas to implement and increase key indicators in business. Fortunately, a lot of employers recognize it and have positive attitude for young employees.

It is in my opinion. But I think everything should have a standard age. It's criminal that were can sent an 18 year old boy or girl to a foreign land to fight a war but they can't order a glass of wine with dinner until 21. The same way it makes no sense that a person can be a "minor" for the same of health insurance but still vote at 18.

Realleh that’s bad
2005 bro
Yes!! Finally!!!!
I think part of the reason for this is because - at least in the United States - the majority of people are older. When these older people were younger, the majority of people were young - so they ruled, and older people were the minority and thus needed protection at work as the mass of young people were reaching adulthood. Nowadays we young people are entering the adult world being the minority - older people now rule the adult world and workplaces and we are the minority in most spaces. I have noticed this many times myself, and have called it "reverse ageism". I explained this one time to an older man I worked with and he laughed in my face and called me a dumb kid. I am 19, I am not a kid, I am an adult, I rent an apartment (with a roommate cause aint no way I could afford it alone), and I work hard and deserve respect and the opportunity to pursue success and happiness. I also think this is why entry level jobs nowadays even require degrees, because the majority of the workforce is older people who all got cheap degrees long ago. But as a young person who chose not to go to college right away because of the costs - its frustrating to be barred from jobs I could do with just some training - but no - they need me to have a four year degree to do it. It's impossible to compete with the mass of 40-50 somethings who have degrees and years of experience, and they are the majority, so they got all the good jobs and we are left with fast food/retail/other minimum wage jobs. All the while prices for everything grow more and more out of control. I knew things wouldn't be easy as an adult but this shit is beyond what I was told to expect. Feels like its hustle or die sometimes.
ageism against young ppl is more severe than ageism against old ppl in most ways so if i called 1 type of age discrimination "reverse ageism" itd definitely b ageism against old ppl
Haha I definitely want to agree! But I am not an older person myself so I can only look at things from my perspective as a young person. In US law, age-ism protection laws define that type of discrimination as a bias against older people, so that is why I call it "reverse", because it is the opposite of what the law describes... but is still very much a thing regardless, and there should be protection for us as well - especially as we see the birth rates decline, youth will continue become a smaller portion of the population (and still be expected to pay for the large amounts of retired people). this trend will continue at least for the foreseeable future in US. its more severe already in places like Japan/Korea, i cant imagine being a young person in one of those countries.@@-Foliage-
They're using the word "adult" as if the age of majority and law dictates what you are biologically.
Once you go through puberty, you're an adult. Period.
yes and no! I agree that some people mature faster than others, but you should also not forget the fact that just because someone has went through puberty earlier doesn’t mean that their brain is fully developed. That point in time is somewhere in your mid to late twenties. That is when people should really start taking you serious
@@REALdavidmiscarriage so you wanna punch a baby for being young?
@@VirtualizerExtreme wtf? what drugs are you on? I never said anything even remotely close to that phahha
@@REALdavidmiscarriage maybe not but just because someone is younger doesn't mean you should disrespect them, gosh you probably were lazy to realize it when your brain was in development.
@@VirtualizerExtreme I feel like people should respect people with more life experience more than younger ones. Because kids just talk alot but oftentimes don‘t have a clue what they are talking about, thats why they are (and should be) taken less seriously
I know this might be dumb but I think kids age of 12 should vote don't judge me am 12
No it’s not a dumb at all, I am also, Twelve year olds are mature (well some of us anyway) and we deserve to have a say in who rules the country. I think I could make an informed decision about the prime minister. I’m capable of a lot of things, but I’m not allowed because i’m ‘too young’. There is no logic to that: everybody just writes children of as stupid when a lot of us are smarter than a large proportion of adults. I know people in their late twenties that still aren’t mature enough to vote. Everybody matures at a different rate, that needs to be considered. I assumed that when I’m eighteen I’ll be free of all this and finally be able to get a job and be taken seriously but it turns out they aren’t taken seriously ever, which is so disappointing. For some reason, we have like 60-year-olds deciding on our education and acting ‘for the children’ when you could just get an actual child. They would know better than anyone. It does feel like an oppression and is very similar to sexism and ageism. However, for some reason it’s never taken seriously as brushed off as ‘haha dumb kids, thinking they’re smart’ but in reality some of us are. I don’t see why that can’t be considered. I just hope that when I grow older I’ll remember the passionate views I hold now and not turn into a product that conforms to ageism. I don’t understand why children’s views can’t just be heard, that’s enough for me to be satisfied, even if the ideas are never acted upon. I really hope this changes on day, and when I have children I’ll definitely take them seriously and hope and work towards making them a society in which they don’t feel oppressed and silenced. A society in which children’s ideas are valued to have hope and even acted upon in parliament. Where they actually feel understood and not wasted by an ageist society who use the argument of ‘your brain isn’t developed enough’ to silence all young people across the nation.

In the young adult age range up to 30 with probably also be discriminated against. I mean in society not just work like most things mention. Outside work it's like that form of discrimantion doesn't matter. I think younger politcal leaders, global warming may not be the worst idea. You will see teens young adults having negative stereotypes attached to them only some of which are true and don't apply to everyone. I feel like this happens a lot in my life old person being scared of new generation, then people or public at work say you don't know what your doing, can I check your ID is fair because we look young. But we're still treated like crap by the older generations. Despite the fact were better behaved, use less drugs drinking and less violent than previous generations. Only a moron would suggest otherwise stats are stats/facts.
This is exactly the issue with youngism and why I heavily loathe this infantilization
In some countries LIke MIne for example always greet each other when they/we come across them, When IM with my parents, or with a non-school uniform they would greet me. But As a secondary student. People discriminate teenagers, always thinking ALL of them are bad and naughty. So when I wear my school uniform and on my own and i see someone from my country they dont greet me back. So i say hi to them first however they just dont reply back and give me an ugly stare. This isn't okay!

Nobody is gonna be like
HEY! That piece of fabric OFFENDS me!
This is an important debate to have with both young and older generations. If the older generation were to better understand how young people feel, then younger people won't need to push as much for the changes that are necessary. It's all making about making a better society - for everyone!
Older people already know how being young feels like...

here's a bit of ageism I've found cooked into the english we all speak!
What is the word for someone who's the offspring of someone else, but isn't young?
What's the adult version of "my kid"?
There is none. There is no endearing term for a child of an adult that doesn't get used as an ageist insult, to simply have parents is to be open to ageism!
there is now way to tell someone how many kids you have, without that someone assuming they're all preteens.
They could just wait
millions if not billions of news stories about pedophiles, but not one story told about pedophobes. Ageism at it's finest.
my browser says "pedophobe" isn't even a word, and so do dictionaries, but ageism exists.
Honestly, "pedophobia" is a much better term for "youngism". it paints it in the proper light
What about generationism?
Some generations get the best of ageism and youngism compared to other generations.
Some generations got strong youngism when they were young and then suddenly receive strong ageism when politics has changed.
While other generations simply got the big right to ditch the elderly, but when they got old they opress the new young generation.
imagine going into the comments and replying to every single anti-ageist argument with "nu-uh, builds character" while never posting a comment of your own.
At my job they make me do everyone else’s work because I’m the young one there. It’s not fair and I’m ready to leave.

Im not ganna bow down for somebody like there queen Elizabeth. And about my parents. Were best palls and family and we dont treat each other that way unless its something serious. Every time somebody says im an adult dont talk back to me when there the one bothering me. I will say. I dont care if ur a baby. You have no right to treat me like this pet and try to give me detention for stepping on a sharpener outside on the floor. Back at my 6 grade school they said i can't wear a hat bc i can be apart of a gang bc of it. It was a plain black hat. And i was like "how would u accuse me of being in a gang when ur big tattoo janitor dude wearing a crip hat." They said he can wear it bc hes an adult. So ur telling me of a grown man who isnt a crip and puts on a royal blue bandana and walks around in LAS ANGELA'S and wont have nobody go up to him thats in a gang press him bc hes an adult. Bc that was what they were saying. And he works at the school so the crips can spot him wearing that and come by and hurt him. I care for him i dont want him wearing gang hats. Any other hat is so dang ok. But nothing related to gangs. Adults if ur reading this. Stop using im and adult for every single thing bc u knew dam well if u wernt an adult you wouldnt say that. And you know dam well you cant treat kids like these pets and try to use ur age as a vip card 😂 if u got a problem with what im saying. In order for a Young Person to grow up into a Citizen of Society, the Older Person. Who's Job it is to nature and encourage that Young Person to be a pivotal part of Society. Is to give the Young Person a bit of Work Experience in a Job, not constantly giving hand outs because the Older Person sees it as a quick fix to a problem. When the Older Person does that it's a wonder why the Young Person grows to be selfish. Because that Young Person was conditioned into thinking that's how to behave if something doesn't go their way. It's pretty simple if the Guardian is caring towards the Young Person that will show in return. If the Young Person is not coming from a disciplined yet caring Home. Then that Young Person is bound to be led astray, learn them Young and the benefits will lead them down the right path in life.

this video is pretty god-awful, it doesn't even scratch the surface of the iceberg that is ageism. it doesn't even disturb a single snowflake, and it's clear that it's made by someone who doesn't have any real experience in being a victim of ageism. the problems talked about in this video are, at best, problems that someone who's never dealt with ageism would assume the community is concerned about, and at worst, aren't even representations of things anyone's concerned about.
The way it starts off by asking "is ageism real"?, and then only talks about nonsense after they bring up the voting problem. What about youth sexuality? Youth being viewed as property of their parents. The way parents have almost unlimited legal control over their kids. The way that they use the term "productive citizen" in t his video is a product of ageism, as citizenship is something viewed as an adult-only thing anyways, and does not reflect something most young people even care about, and furthermore, a citizen is simply a term for someone who was born in the country, nobody should have to do anything to be a valid citizen, and the term "productive member of society" is constantly lobbied against young people, as yet another way of saying that we are incompetent, irrational, and incapable/unworthy of making our own decisions!

I only disagree at the point with the 16 year old voting age. At this age, the average young person is very inexperienced and poorly exposed to society in order to have clear judgement for the country's future. It should be risen to 25 years old, when then the brain has been fully developed.
I consider that our consciousness doesn`t extremely depend on our age. It is more connected with our upbringing, lifestyle, interests, hobbies, people around us etc
"the brain is fully developed at 25" is actually a total myth though
voting right should not be a matter of expirience or anything else. The right to vote should apply for all the people who will have to live under the laws created by the voting proces. That is the point of a democracy - that everyone can participate regardles of anything.
