Everyone wants their version of Maynard and its just weird. He is a human and he has changed as humans do. He is not angst filled Maynard of Opiate and Aenima. He learned shit, got married, start growing grapes, fuck it. He went through the spiral as we all do. Let him do his thing and keep shit positive.
Bufo Alvarez I agree! let him enjoy life, let them eat grapes! he does not have to be who he was, he evolved into a man who cares about more than music. He has put out the best music I've heard in my life. So he has other interest as a businessman. good for him! He did not end up like other artist, dead with a needle in his arm. He looks healthy, and quite happy. We all should strive for what makes us happy.

Yes, this was a promo for his wine. So what? Have you tried it? It's pretty damn good. So quit whining and follow something you're passionate about.

The true creative spirit isn’t limited to just one art form folks. Dedicate yourself to something until you like what you see, then try something you can hear, smell, taste, etc. It’s a blessing we have those out there to enrich our lives with beauty, but know it’s possible to enrich your own life and others lives with your own efforts. Try it out. You just might not only love it, but be great at it. DaVinci wasn’t born knowing he was going to do all he did. Maynard wasn’t born knowing how far his future in music would take him. You weren’t born knowing what amazing thing you’ll create.

Because we here in 'Merica "fuck yeah" have an insatiable appetite for drugs of any and all kinds. This is why the cartels are knocking each other off just to get our business. No other country in the world wants drugs like we do. Underwear. I don't really know what the reason is behind our appetite for drugs but I believe it.
I get people are upset it's more of a sales pitch rather than a commercial. But most of us have already heard a lot of what this guy has to say, take from it what you will but I get the feeling Maynard lives what he says here.
The video reminds me of Godfrey Reggio's movie Koyaanisqatsi. The speech rings the opposite bell. But when I respect someone, I have to respect the whole package.
I love this man. He can do everything and it will be Art. Adore the voice and the accent. Love this speech. He could write a book of motivational things
Today a young man on acid realized that all matter is merely energy condensed to a slow vibration, that we are all one consciousness experiencing itself subjectively, there is no such thing as death, life is only a dream, and we are the imagination of ourselves
It's honestly super fair that y'all say it's an advert for his wine. As a businessman I'm with you and that outlook. But our boy here, he's realized a hard truth and chooses to express it in a musical sense and through a culinary sense. Cooking, winemaking, the art of creation is art in itself. Everything we create as manic monkeys is an expression of who we are and how we see the world. It's an ad no doubt. But what is capitalism (in it's true form) other than a means to communicate and release that expression.
Might I suggest taking a moment to re-listen to the words being said? It can be easy to quickly put the man, the speech, etc into a box - nicely categorized according to your opinion. It's not so black OR white. Not so one or the other. It's both promoting the product that the man labors over (and obviously cares about) AND sharing knowledge he's learned over the years through his experience (what he said about friction is brilliant). Both, in my opinion, are called for and quite generous. Thank you for the knowledge, and thank you for sharing what you spend your time creating. More love, less hate folks. Thank you.
He's right about the weather conditions in that area . The hippie comment was funny. The most hippie feel in AZ I've ever felt and witnessed was in Quartside. My husband has family in Yuma we go a few times a year and one of my closest friends is from the area Maynard Keenan talking about very close near Cornville AZ the wineries are very good there and Jerome where she was raised there and took me it was beautiful. If you love the outdoors it's definitely worth the trip. Then we went to Sedona.
MJK is brilliant and is living my dream life! I would love to move and go to work for him in his vineyards! 💕 He is an inspiration to me and to so many people on earth!
He used the wine making process as a metaphor to show us how friction, or struggles, or heartache shouldnt be fearsome to us...we dont necessarily seek them out but when they present themselves we must accept it, find a resolution and learn from it.
My time in the last few days has been wave after wave of memories coming back and reliving them and being stuck in my head because of the things I've seen and what had happened years ago. The friction I've experienced is beyond daunting. I'm just trying to figure out who I am now at nearly 30 and nothing to show for it. I put my heart and soul in everything but it never has a good resolution.. hardly any clarity of what the next move should be. I've never really been a leader I've always been told what to do and shown the way and given the ability to do the tasks by having a partner or a team effort.. but I feel so alone even when I'm surrounded by the ones that have said they are there for me. Trying to find a path alone is incredibly overwhelming and seemingly impossible. But I'm still here .. I'm still trying.
The fact that, in my opinion, a “musical genius”, has decided to pursue the incredibly difficult challenge of making premier wine, and IN ARIZONA no less, just reconfirms to me what a beautiful noble pursuit the world of wine is.
