Marcus goes AWOL: Gets sentenced to life in prison and stays behind bars for years.
Baird goes AWOL: Gets a whole game about his court martial, barely escapes execution and is demoted to private.
Kait goes AWOL: Somehow she gets everyone around her to tell her how awesome she is and how everything she did was fine. She faces no punishment whatsoever for going AWOL.
She almost got arrested and the only thing that stopped it was a attack
AGREED. They casted Marcus aside for this??? Kaits entire character was forced, I get what they were trying to do but not at the expense of the franchise
There is actually a big difference as both Marcus and Baird went against direct orders from the higher ups, Kait went AWOL against JDs orders yes but was protected by both JD and Marcus, plus when Marcus and Baird both went awol they were in COG controlled space and immediately brought in while Kait was in a Outsider camp and JD let her go. Then in the final act Jinn does come after all of them after learning they have all been awol and bringing the hammer online only to be stopped because the swarm attacks, a lot like how Baird was almost executed before the Locust attacked the trial.
You forget about Dom about to go AWOL. Quite literally. But he was lucky cause Marcus was his friend and decided to go with Dom. So Marcus going with Dom to search for Maria instead of doing their mission? Technically AWOL. Convenient that people choose to forget that part all the time.
But the message that's continuously being conveyed here is not "you should always follow orders." It's something opposite of that, yet I can't quite exactly put it on my tongue.
Kait gets too much shit for this from fans. Marcus was there but decided to help Kait. Yes Marcus' consequence was the worst; he spent years in jail. But why is it a contest? And he decided to help Kait. You become a beneficiary when you're surrounded by people who've been in similar or worse positions. And Kait's actions weren't glorified. It actually wasn't a very happy scene. Her uncle is dead... by what she believes to be by her own hands. This moved the plot forward. Seriously, I think some people look at this shit with some kind of deranged lens. And I swear idiots have been saying this scene was influenced by feminism. It's like some of these idiots are trying to swing at a phantom ghost, and I have to remind them that this is the granddaughter of Queen Myrrah. I've been with the series since Gears 1 but holy shit I've seen fans get worked up over stupid shit.
What fans need is not to focus on these ridiculous minor scenes. What we actually need are the real steps in improving Gears of War to its former glory like the old worldbuilding and sense of what's at stake. Which I think is what Gears 2 did best: ua-cam.com/video/xwJ-vIfaRko/v-deo.html
@@GrubKiller436 No one forgets that, but At the same time they were in the hallow where Maria was held was close to the objective, and not far out of the way. 15 mintues tops. Like taking the longer way around to get to the Obj becuase of obstacles, or diverting to help assit another unit. These are things that happen in the actual military. AWOL is not staying in your AO to do something that is still a military obj. Kait left her post, Kait abandoned the COG, and the civillians that she, and her squad had orders to protect, she willingly disobeyed a superior officer to leave which in a time of war even IRL would have you shot.
In gears of war judgment when Baird didn't do what he was told he got court-martialed. When kait did it nothing happened.

That’s what really pissed me off and turned me off gears 5. anya was ur commander for like most of the games and only Hoffman and Prescott were above her and she was the one that stops Marcus from running into a burning and exploding gas station to save dom. Only reason Marcus is even considered the head of that team in gears of war 3 is because he had the most field experience and the cog army was basically over so they are pretty much all equal at that point. Only Hoffman was considered an commanding officer because he was only one respectable left. They all literally shit talk Prescott because he hid so much even from Hoffman and pretty much cost them the war.

You’re so right about the respect for authority thing. I just played gears 1 again. Marcus will give Hoffmann shit, but he doesn’t question his orders. When Kim dies and Hoffmann puts Markus in charge, Markus falls in line and accepts his responsibility. Baird complains, but he immediately falls in line to the chain of command. This is important for accurately portraying an elite military unit. Dispute over leadership gets people killed in real life or death military operations. Experienced veterans understand how important it is to fall in line

They had to face repurcussions for their transgressions, which is why fans despise Kait and her plot armour. Besides her flouting of the chain of command, she's only a corporal but by the end of the game is the de facto leader of Delta despite JD being a captain? It's wholly unbelievable in the established logic of the world from the original trilogy

Story-wise, GOW 3 was the perfect ending for me. there was hope for humanity to recover after all the sacrifices and suffering of the main cast.
I would have either liked more time with Adam Fenix, or more Flash backs. We had the thing in the beginning and then saw him a little bit in Azura. Something in between like a Marcus flashback or something like Col. Hoffman flashback. It's still a great game and I loved it so much that when Dom sacrificed himself, me and my cousin were crying from how beautiful it was.

@@evoxghirettiThe books do go into depth on Adam Fenix, but the books aren't going to be something a majority of Gears Of War players know about or even read. So they could've given us some other stuff in the games to give Adam more development outside of only being important for being Marcus's Dad and having a device to end the war.
Why even make a sequel to an already wrapped up story line? There is 80 years of pendulum wars and 17 years of human-locust wars to cover.

God, it's telling that I find Lizzie, an essentially throwaway character who literally dies in the opening act of Gears 5, to be a better and more interesting new character than Kait, a character who now has 2 games under her belt. At least Lizzie was actually funny and seemed to have taken her driving job seriously when it mattered. Killing her off in the first act was a damn shame, cause she had the potential to be the best character in the whole game.
This, Lizzie had a lot of potential going. She was fun, kinda interesting and was the first Carmine that had interactions with another Carmine in the campaign
Does anyone else think LizzieXJD would've been an interesting romance plot, while Kait and Del hooked up?

The enemies of Gears 4 & 5 are lame. The Locust were a terrifying mysterious subterranean species that enslaved other species. They had their own religion and architecture. Part of why I continued playing Gears of War was to figure out what the hell the Locust were. The characters were also a lot more interesting in the original Gears trilogy.

The Swarm is inferior in appearance, the fear factor, culture, names, like what’s scarier: the Locust Horde, or the Swarm. They have a couple of cool monsters like the snatchers but the Locust Horde had this insane, disgusting creatures that ranged from tiny to city sized and all had different purposes. The Kraken just kinda...existed. Compare that to the Riftworm, which sunk entire cities and killed a character we grew attached to. The riftworm had a direct impact on the narrative, characters, and world. The Swarm doesn’t even have a big bad in 4, it’s just some random scion. The Locusts had RAAM, Skorge and Myrrah, who were all awesome.
Ngl I actually love the Swarm, I think they're cool, but my biggest problem is that it's still not clear what they want, the Locust waged war against humanity because they were desperate after getting massacred by the Lambent, but the Swarm wants to wage war just because they're basically goombas, now I'm not saying the Locust were innocent or right in their thinking, but at least they had a strong reason to be the antagonists instead of just being savage lizard men.
And have they even explained what Raptors and Pouncers are? I get that Scions are just mutated drones, but how does an animal evolve to mutate humans into a twisted version of the locust? They're clearly not mutated hollow creatures like Swarmaks since they lack crystals.

Man so many people are focused on the dark and gritty thing, but I'm here looking at Gears 1-3 and I see a story of brotherhood and the things soldiers have to do to both survive and protect the brothers in arms besides them. The Locust war was started because the Locust needed to survive and run from the Lambent, but then Gears 5 ruined that and instead changed it to, Queen Mirrah started the Locust war because "government came and took my baby!" Gears 5 has absolutely destroyed an immense amount of lore in the series. It killed my interest in ever getting another new Gears game afterwards.
Edit: I would prefer a game set before 1 and let's bring back Dom as the main character

Yeah a lot of stuff happened even before gears 1.Gears 1 is already 14 years after war with the locust.They could have easily done some prequels.
Or even a different squad who is oblivious to what Delta is doing (at least for the most part), trying to survive their battles on their front.

Horde mode was badass. I like gears 5 horde, but 12 waves in a match is kinda ridiculous.
At the end of campaign when you had to choose who dies I chose del just because I didn’t want Marcus to be upset i couldn’t care about Jd or Del.
Which ultimately screwed up the set up for the next game, [Whether it be called Gears 6 or Gears Infinite] It turned the game from a piece of trash to a Telltale piece of trash. The only points of the Trilogy where you'd choose between two different places were just movements going to point A and point B. We didn't choose between Minh and Anthony of who'd get sniped. We didn't choose who'd fall into the mouth of the worm. We didn't choose between Anya, Sam, or Dom to give their life to save the rest of the squad. If Gears 5 had one piece that should've been emotional, it should've been there.

It was an easy choice. Who matters more, the capable commanding officer who is a son of an extremely successful soldier of two wars, one of which was against men, the other against raging beasts that lasted a decade at least.
The other guy is a drab COG who isn’t a commanding officer, who isn’t related to any fan favourite and follows this cadet with no experience and hates the chain of command.

The hate boner for authority in these new games is so weird. They make Prescott out to be an asshole in Gears Tactics like he enjoyed ordering the Hammer Strikes on Sera. It was a hard decision made by multiple people that helped buy humanity some time despite the huge sacrifice. The hate towards him in the third game was understandable since he disappeared after the 2nd game. Though we learn that he had to leave to help Adam Fenix with developing counter measure weapon.
You do realize that Prescott was always shown as a dick besides in gears 2 and he literally never is shown to enjoy the hammer strikes in fact he looks guilty for when he tries to kill Gabe and co

It can be argued he left for a good reason so he could oversee Adam's research on the countermeasure weapon. Plus if it wasn't for him then Marcus might have never known his father was still alive.

Kinda old comment. But I would say the older games had a similar hate boner, but they played it subtly instead of so on the nose and over the top with the new entries. It was mentioned in the og games how the hammer of dawn strikes kinda didn't really do anything besides kill some locust. The light mass offensive,while killing the kryll, awoke the rift worm. Heck in RAAM's shadow we have barrick having multiple lines of dialogue talking bad about the cog and how they are really ineffective at doing anything. Let's not forget the lore that cog authorities, very high level officials, helped continue the work that eventually created the locust. The og games definitely had a hate for authority streak going but they set it in a world with characters who would face repercussions from that authority because it had a lot of power. It controlled almost all of Sera before e-day.
I dumped it after playing 4 - I had a feeling that the game wasn't gonna be that good, but a good friend of mine used to play 1-3 with me and we loved it so gears or war soon became the series that we played together and as a result we decided to play 4; We enjoyed it to some degree, but we also saw it's flaws and as a result I decided to not even bother with 5, I could see that the game was losing it's charisma at 4 so I got turned off.
It's no longer the mature dark and gritty shooter game that I used to know, it's now just a shell of what it used to be.

As other people have said, I miss the dark, gritty, atmosphere of Gears of War... remember when this series used to be about a band of brothers trying to survive in a worn-torn world and not knowing if they'd live to see the next day...? I'm just not getting that same feeling anymore. The atmosphere in Gears 5 is too damn bright (both literally and metaphorically) and the main protagonist is annoying and a terrible leader. Also, the dialogue in this game was forced as hell and every cutscene I just wanted them all to stop talking.
You are right. It's supposed to be a dark and gritty and foreboding world. They ruined everything about it.
I used to stay up all night & skip classes in middle school just to play the old gears games. I got my childhood friends into gears. It’s my favorite game of all time. The coalition completely crapped on gears. I actually even had a conversation with cliff blezinski(Creator of the old gears games) i asked him why did he leave gears & he replied with “It was just time to move on to a new game” which he created lawbreakers. Dude you don’t understand how much i miss Gears. It was the one and only game that I loved. You described this video perfectly.

Thank you dear viewer, that's really cool to hear. I've had many conversations, interviews with the original Creators (Old EPIC Games) about Gears of War, mostly with the original writers. Old EPIC was a great creative team that knew what games they wanted to make. The Coalition are a motley crue of talentless nobodies that only know how tick the correct boxes, and creative directors who shouldn't have been allowed within a hundred miles of a Gears of War game. On top of that, they do not have a strong writing team with deep knowledge and passion for the IP.
@@OMAHA16 if you noticed, the same exact thing happened to Halo. Halo 4 and 5 suffered this fate first, it should have signaled a warning for the Gears franchise going after 3.

So he moved on and created a flop of a game called lawbreakers, which made him go dark (and possibly broke lol) that was smart cliffy. What he should've done was do a pendulum wars spin off, Hoffman in his younger years or create a whole new storyline with an all new cast
the problem is,these franchises that used to be made in the 2000’s they were real quality because back then story was what would sell a game,gritty games like dead space,fear,resident evil,gears of war,lost planet all these were truley rated M. they don’t make games sadly to sell to the same demographic,we all know battle royals and multiplayer breast feeding like seasons and micro transactions is what makes the money know and the demographic for that is a lot younger so they know what they are doing. they just don’t make games like they used to,the publishers aren’t interested in anything that might wastes assets like more campaign content then multiplayer content. i could go on but i think you guys get the gist.i used to love gears and gears 2-3 was the peak.

Why make quality IPs when you can make a quick dollar selling bullshit microtransactions. Notice last 2 major Rock star games has 0 single player expansions? Cyberpunk developed by a studio who we looked up to for so damn long went to the dark side. Pure trash such as the new trilogy for gears pushed out. Forcing a PVP mode in every IP possible just to charge for cosmetics and taking away quality on the single player part. I looked to my games to escape reality. Lately they're just depressing me and Im finding them boring. Cant even play classic games that were good because the present day games depress me so much.
I liked Gears 5, I think its interesting but as I played it I remember thinking that it was no where near the quality of Gears 2 (my favourite). I remember a lot about gears 2 and 3 because I understood the significance of moments, or the build up to an event was there. I played Gears 5 recently and honestly, I remember very little of it. I like it for what it is, but in the grand scale of the series, sadly it lacks its identity.
I also hate the whole backstory of the swarm. I didn't like how they kinda ruined the achievment of Marcus and gang defeating them finally. I would have like a civil war actually. The seeds are there and could make a more interesting story.
@@666strutter what I remember about gears 5 is it being needlessly hard in some levels, and not even on insane mode. That and THEY NERFED THE TORQUE BOW. This weapon took real skill to use, so you were rewarded with a one hit kill when you succeeded. Now, even on only hardcore difficulty (or whatever it’s called, since they changed the names of the difficulties to be edgy or something), the swarm shrug off explosives like a minor inconvenience.

That’s the whole point of the Carmine role. It was created to be a throwaway character(s) & the tradition lived on. Only reason it didn’t gow3 was due to the “save Carmine/kill Carmine” 360 avatar shirt purchase thing. Clayton was the only one to survive but Epic had planned on him dying just the same, the community decided his fate, otherwise he would’ve been another throwaway character. Gary and lizzy just followed the old formula of killing 1 Carmine per game.
So no, Lizzy was never meant to be a strong character. There is no “what if’s” with her. That’s it. End of story.

Lizzie was a far better character than Kait. Hell even south park stopped killing Kenny every episode, they don't have to keep killing off members of the carmine family. I'm sure gears 6 will kill off enough characters by the end of the campaign.

The originals battled the locust for years and she just freely walks around with their pendant around her neck!? Gtfoh. And what's with the choose who dies? I actually had some hope for 5. I thought that maybe her going AWOL would be a huge problem and Del would be trying to convince her how illogical this was during a time of war. I thought Kait was intentionally being portrayed as a bratty child because the game would follow her change from a whiny, inept little girl into a logical leading woman.
These hopes were all quickly destroyed when I realized that she never improves and the story is written entirely around her proving that "Authority=bad, no consequences=good"
I would genuinely be fine to never see JD, Kait or Del ever again. Totally start over, fuck it bring Dom back
I also didn’t like that Kait was calling the shots. She’s literally the lowest rank of the group. Captain Fenix, Lieutenant Walker, and Chutani, Sergeant Fenix, and then Corporal Diaz. I don't see how it can be fixed. Gears 4 was... alright, but 5 was atrocious. The thing with Kait "strong independent whoamayun" Diaz thing was peak cringe, and they did mah boi JD so wrong, destroyed him to try to prop Kait up. After that narrative turn, followed by several NPCs casually saying they're lesbos, I dropped out entirely. They're gonna have to go hard on the manliness next time if they want me back.

If I'm being honest, when I got done with both Gears 4 and 5, it immediately went away from my mind. The story from both never left an lasting impact in my mind, unlike the previous games. When I finished Gears of War my first thought was "The Lightmass offensive was a success. But was it really?". When I finished Gears 2 I was still a bit emotional from hearing Benjamin Carmine's dying words and Dom finding his tortured and broken wife. When I finished Gears 3 I felt for Marcus because they have finally ended a long war but at the cost of everyone he ever cared for, except Anya. These last 2 games never had an impact on me like that after I was done with them.
I dont remember gears of war 1 except the boss at the end, that sweaty boss against the turret, and gears of war 2 was awesome
I can still look back and remember so many things from the old games. The sarcastic, passive aggressive back and forth between Marcus and Baird, our introduction to the Lambent, poor Anthony getting shot. He was just a kid, it was brutal. The Berserker, Kim’s death, the fight with RAAM. Going through the Hollow for the first time, detonating the Lightmass bomb. Then Gears of War 2 just absolutely dialed it up to 11 in all the best ways, the on rails sections, the riftworm, the pitch black tunnel with Dizzy, riding a fucking Brumak, getting to drive around. Tai’s horrific death, finally finding Maria, and she’s perfectly healthy and alive, only for her to a be a literal husk two seconds later when Dom realizes what’s happened to her. Benjamin Carmine’s death in the Riftworm, sinking Jacinto, fighting Skorge in the air. Going through the Hollow and seeing the Lambent fighting the Locusts. The Sires in Mount Kadar. And 3 had the perfect ending. Dom’s sacrifice, Adam’s death, fighting the mutating, disgusting Lambent, finally getting revenge and killing Myrrah, learning more about the Locusts and E-Day and the COG’s role in everything. It had the perfect sendoff, hope for humanity and everything.
I literally can remember three things from Gears of Snore 4 and it’s saving Marcus from the Snatcher, windstorms and getting to drive a big robot with Cole. There wasn’t a single thing that was as fun or as impactful and heartwrenching as there were in the first three games.

I was actually privately talking to AShinyRay about these ideas yesterday and this video was released, I couldn’t agree further. I wouldn’t say judgment was a fan favourite though :P but I can see now as to why you like it, it did break the mould and built on other ideas.
Anyway, ultimately excellent video, you’ve done a great job in analysis & deconstruction. The only new character created by TC that I like is JD but that’s also because of the link to Marcus. Also yeah Marcus ain’t even the same in 4&5, war veteran, killed locust generals, lost brothers in arms just to get shoved about by an inexperienced cadet (Kait)

Yes I agree. The choose who too save character ruined the story of gears 5 a bit. I feel like they wanna make the new main characters Far more important then Marcus. The emotional connections didnt break me like Dom death did. I chose Del and was even shocked of his dead. The coalition can't make a good protagonist like Epic did.
A Marcus Fenix Collection would be cool. Personally I'd much rather see that with Judgement released with it as a bonus kind of like how ODST and Reach were released in The Master Chief Collection. Just make all of these games modernized for modern platforms and call it a day for awhile. A modern Gears of War 3 alone would cause the franchise in Multiplayer to explode in popularity.
It breaks my heart to see how far Gears of War has fallen. I love the first three games, the books and comics that would make you lose yourself in the storyline. I can't stand all the WOKE BULLSHIT that is ruining great games! They go out of their way to ignore already existing strong female characters just so they can make their own in a way that would appeal to a small percentage of people who most likely don't even play the game. In doing so they alienate the vast majority of players that know and love Gears of WAR.

'If you create a game you must include people of color!' they scream, even when the game is set in medieval Europe, where people of color did not exist.
'Female characters can't be shown in sexy poses or wear skimpy outfits!' and so they force designers to include intolerable, unlikeable female characters with no redeeming qualities. You can't even say, 'Well she's nice to look at, anyway,' cuz odds are...she isn't.
This kind of behavior just highlights how insane they are, as they use threats and coercion in an effort to stifle dissent.
I'm sick of it, and I won't touch any game these fools are associated with.

The problem with diverse hiring is that the people being hired is mostly just based off their race rather than skill. Don't get me wrong, having diversity is good thing, but you have to make sure those you are hiring also have the skills necessary to help bring success to a team, which arguably is one of the most important aspects to team selection. Hell, Kung Fu Panda was mostly created by Caucasian people but they had experience in the animation, writing, and cultural history departments to get large support for the movie due to their knowledge of Chinese culture and history and to even get a approval by people in China.

Personally I grew up playing gears and halo when I was younger (halo 3 and Gears 1 were my first games but I've played them all) and ngl I think Gears is doing way better than halo rn. I actually found Gears 5's story really enjoyable and in terms of enjoyment I do rank it up there in terms of the series. I respect people who disagree but I dont think the whole female protagonist thing was pushed down your throat tm and kinda understood why they chose to focus on her for this game at least. Dont view her as a Mary sue either like what I've seen some people say in the comments, she certainly ain't a Rey or anything like that.

Brutally honest video, you don't beat around the bush and I respect that. I pretty much agree with everything you said. Thematically, story and character-wise, the new trilogy simply cannot hold up to the originals. I hope TC at least tries to improve execution in Gears 6, but it's too late to fix the underlying story and characters themselves, or the surrounding world of these sequels. Imo, as you said, TC should just go back to the Locust War era - do a prequel in the vein of Judgement. And for the love of God, do away with petty identity politics and pc bs. Unfortunately I don't see the latter happening without a completely new team; it's contagious, and TC is infected.
The story and characters for me are a mixed bag when it comes to Gears 5. I definitely agree with you on the points you made, particularly on the old characters and how they inspired and faced consequences for their actions. The game definitely has its flaws there. And a game set during the Pendulum Wars would be interesting as we got a taste of it in the prologue. And I also agree that Gears of War 3, Judgement, and Tactics was a good enough point to end the story.
Another idea I had that could make for an interesting game is one from the Locust perspective, dealing with the Lambent and conquering Sera. The game could follow Raam’s Shadow where you play as Jermad or Vrol, and a COG Gear we know.
As for what I like about the current games, it’s mostly their gameplay. Mantle Kick and Execution, Horde and Escape with its classes, fortifications, and mutators, and Free-For-All.
In terms of Kati’s story, it seems like it might be better as a novel than a video game. I don’t hate her as a character, but she’s definitely not my favorite compared to the classic cast of characters. I think since she was born and raised as an Outsider, I think that’s where she has a problem with authority, especially with the COG.
The game should’ve followed JD since he’s an interesting character in terms of feeling like he has to prove himself given who his parents are, perhaps wanting to craft his own legacy. Of course, that’s where he makes mistakes and tries to own up to them. He could also join the Hivebusters, try to gain experience that way.
Del is as you said is mostly the comic relief. He’s the main lead’s best friend, but doesn’t have his own personal goal like Dom did which helped ground him as a person and as a character. Maybe he could be brought under Baird’s wing. He has a lot of experience with machines and science. And given he took Niles data, maybe he could work hard to see if there’s a way to reverse what happened to those captured by the Swarm, maybe find a way to sever the link between them and the Hive.
Instead of gears of war 4 being a cut to when Marcus had his son grow up it should’ve been a new squad with D Carmine, tasked to clean up any remaining locust that may have survived it’s a long shot idea since we are told that they were all wiped out but I’d find it more entertaining playing as a squad and not 3 teen friends and a dad.
Honestly gears of war tactics story was pretty good, not the gameplay it’s self but the story was way better than gears 5 story for sure.

I had to force myself through 4. With 5 looks beautiful sure runs nicely but that's all it does for me. Characters are boring, story is awful, Jd just seems whiny as hell. We had so much darkness in gears of war 1-3, that I would like to have some hope. I kind of think a diplomancy route would make sense, after the endless cycle of violence, peace would win the day (granted one would have to shoot a massive amount of people along the way, it is a gears game) Just imagine recruiting a mixed force of outcast, cog and swarm to save the day. Maybe support powers like summoning corpsers and king ravens reinforcements.
I would be keen for a campaign set in the early days of the locust war in the UIR, focused around Paduk and how Karn totally wiped out UIR nations
The coalition doesn’t understand GOW is supposed to be a grimdark horror setting where technology is advanced but not advanced enough to keep humans alive, the robots were primative and supposed to be incredibly valube. The new GOW is wow high tech robot power ranger man and super halo gun shooty shoot simulator.
Not only that but if your going to make robots in GoW they’d need to look grim and be coated with a mute color pallet very similar too G1 JACK. It’s not necessarily bad TC added robots, it’s how TC executed the idea.
The DBs/their weapons are way too colorful and sound boring. There’s nothing unique about DBs beside their head that looks like Jack which I hate. Db is a straight up rip off of Jack so the devs can say they created something.
All I’m saying is the devs should’ve at least took their time and made DBs look like replacement cog soldiers because that’s the big idea, we know that humanity was near extinction at the end of 3 which would have been ideal for the DBs to turn out looking like CoG soldiers because let’s be honest cog soldiers look way more menacing than DBs, like who’s actually frightened by the DBs combat and intelligence not to mention their silly voices.
I would have been way more interested and scared of DBs if they were highly intelligent cyborgs or some shit made to serve the new cog because of ground breaking research.

Gears of War 3 was the best gears in my opinion. Why is there a bayonet on the retro lancer and a blade on bottom of the torque bow yet someone decided "ya just swing there knife." Who decided "hey let's attach the same button to rev the chainsaw on the lancer to the reload button" when in gears judgment you just held the melee button. I think little lazy choices like this paint a bigger picture when you think about it and look closer at the rest of the game. Why do executions look so silly? And example is how in gears 3 the retro would just slit their throat but in the newer gears their head explodes? Why is there a wrestling move that completely Gibs a player?

Exactly, and the population of Humanity is barely within the tens of thousands, I'd be surprised if it even reached one hundred thousand.. Even with mass breeding. The population before the Locust war was two billion, most died on E Day, more died after the COG glassed every other country with the hammer of dawn to stop the Locust, and the population was pretty much gone in the end of the war. There's the entire Pendulum Wars, which you stated. It would be nice to go somewhere other than Tyrus, and use different vehicles, the COG had tanks(other than the centaurs, and had battleships(barely used, they preferred carriers and destroyers), and the UIR had tons of vehicles too

One of if not my favourite gaming franchises gone the way of most sci-fis these days, never really been much of a versus guy but as far as the single player goes, gears 5 (and tactics) were very dissapointing, enough to inspire me to write my own re-write for both 4 and 5, never done that for any other franchise. Really feel like fans could do a better job than the actual developers of most franchises these days. Sad times, ... Out of interest how many people are jumping ship? anyone sticking around for 6 or nah? :)
Yeah, I'll see how it goes but I'm not holding my breath on it being good. And 5 not having Hoffman is just an extra kick in the balls.

Not sure it is SJW so much as just bad design. Gears of war 5 level design did nothing for me, open world sections could be cut entirely and I think it be a more elegant game would be the result. (Skiff was a cool design but smaller more content rich levels with it would actually be fun). They also made of the big plot point of Kait being part Locust and handled it in a way that just felt like wasted potential. I was hyped for that only to see it turned into a get rid of the evil mind control quest and just get replaced. Bad game but it would still be lame no matter their politics.
I would give them credit for few things, Jack powers were nice and the skiffs could be cool.
Gears suffers the same problem halo has. New companies that have no clue what made the original trilogies so great. These people are just trying to milk both franchises and run them into the ground. Sad to see these great stories just get shittier with each new game.

Man I honestly did not hate gears 5 at all, yeah it's no gears 1, 2 or 3, but I honestly thought it was better than 4. I'm loving the online play too, but to each his own I guess.

This was my first gears game, read up on the past story and starting playing gears 5 and I loved it. Waiting eagerly for next. Reviewers and critics sometimes forget there are always new players joining the games.
@@Nawazaahr Oh man I do highly recommend the og Gears trilogy tho and Gears 4. Even tho they're not nearly as good control-wise as 5 (Gears 5 has the best combat in the series imo) the story and characters are no doubt worth it. Gears 4 a bit less so, it felt like one of the weaker entries, but it does build upon the introduction of the Swarm and characters like JD and old, grizzled Marcus.

Gears 1 was what kept me hooked on Xbox back in 2006. It’s sad to see both halo and gears treated like garbage by Microsoft
Cliff Bleszinski admitted that there was ideological messaging in the first two gears games. The pendulum wars were supposed to be an allegory for the wars in the middle east which were fought over oil. After Gears of War 2 was released, he stated that the torture scenes in the game were an allegory for what was going on at Guantanamo Bay Cuba. So there have always been ideological messages in the Gears of War series.

In the context of the story, they made sense though. The Pendulum Wars were pointless, especially when shown that the UIR and the COG can work together when needed when not fighting over resources. Same with the torture, it was shown to make the Locust even more despicable, monstrous and terrifying, especially when they effectively kill Tai and Maria.
This isn’t the same as that.
People always make this point and it’s true that there is usually underlying messaging is a lot of entertainment whether it’s a TV show or a video game. With that said, I don’t give a damn about Cliff Blezenski’s politics and he probably doesn’t understand anything about American foreign policy or history...
It’s about subtlety. In Gears 5 they have literally pride flags and weapon skins as cosmetic items; literal political symbolism that you can wear in the game’s multiplayer.
The story telling in the original trilogy is pretty good, and I’ve known for a while what the inspiration for the whole “no blood for imulsion” crap was. I’m sure plenty of people rolled their eyes but were fine with delving into the story and learning to like the characters regardless of Blezenski’s dumb, irrelevant opinion of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Gears is a fictional universe. It’s not real. People like it for its fictional story. I don’t understand how people think they’ve created this “gotcha” moment when they point out that the dude who made the story is some dude that probably voted for Al Gore and John Kerry because he bought into the crappy, ridiculous “blood for oil” conspiracy theories and made that the inspiration for the conflict in Gears...
The intersectional crap and the culture wars going on right now are a lot more difficult to overlook. The American political left wants politics in EVERYTHING and it’s not subtle at all. It’s annoying and frankly destructive and divisive.

I always wanted to experience a game where it is from the Onyx Guard faction perspective. While at the same time, every damn game shits on the Onyx Guard where they're supposed to represent the best and brightest soldiers/officers of the Coalition's Military. Hell, without men and women of the Onyx Guard making hidden effort of preserving Tyran History, intellectuals, and still attempting to organize a resistance against the Locust. I feel like the Onyx Guard are under-appreciated and relegated to become nothing more than a joke, like Death Troopers. (In the extended universe, they're badasses, however in the media for the masses, they're pushovers).
I am not saying what the standard COG military did had no meaning, but we haven't seen the level of ideals, personal conflicts, and or values of the COG from the Onyx Guard. (I understand there are glimpses of CoG values from Lt. Kim, Onyx Guard Male/Female (G3 and Judgement), Keegan).
Fuck! I wanted to at least play in a videogame of a Last Stand of the original Onyx Guard during the Locust War. On Azura Island, or different and new locations on Sera. "No Retreat, No Surrender, No Defeat!!!"
Anything to get us away from Kait, del and jd. Playing as an onyx guard would be a fresh new start if they could do it right
This is why I really hate Judgement, Judgement seems to make the Onyx Guard as a joke, as most of the dead/alive cogs you'll encounter are Onyx Guards.

My and my brothers have grew up with the gears of war franchise and we absolutey love it but the three of us have dramatically different points of view on the new series.
My youngest brother hates the new tone of the games and wants far darker story plots and a complete change of art style. In his works if its more colorful then concrete and not blood it has to go. But he enjoys the mechanics and but is completely uninvested in what is happening.
My middle brother loves the new directions. He says he disliked how original delta squad basically would basically act like they never cared about what has happening to the world at large besides them personally and he can relate more with the new cast. Also he says thank god the greens and blues now exist in the universe.
I'm pretty much in the middle. I'm ehh but will forever play anything in this series and I feel like this was the best TC could go. The Gears universe is so amazing I honestly just want more game and spins off ever year if possible.
Ultimately TC had just stayed the same as what Epic did it would have just been a souless copy and they decided to do whatever they wanted. If concept wasn't what you liked I at least praise the execution. The game looks and feel great from a mechanic standpoint and that is a rarity now adays.
I don't get why people say they just want more Locust, however you can't deny that the story from part 5 is pretty pointless. It's got elements from Gears 2 without out the interesting parts and ends basically at the same spot where Gears 4 ended. This story would have made a great DLC pack if it were shorter, however the game plot basically boils down to 'find the right tools to take down the swarm...then find out what happens next in Gears 6...oh btw the Locust are in there but don't really matter'.

The only one that doesn’t do that is 4, and that’s actually not a good thing for it. 1-3 follow the same story structure of 1) we need to find or get this thing that we will use to destroy the Locus for good 2) that didn’t work be I think we found a better alternative 3) and now we have finished the enemy off for good after boss battle.... and into the next game. You blow them up with the light mass bomb, you flood the caverns, you destroy the Imulsion. Atleast 4&5 are actively tell me that the fight isn’t over haha

I literally just spent the last couple of days playing and beating the OG trilogy. I had never played Gears 3 at all so I went back and at time of posting, just beat Gears 3 a few hours ago. They still hold up well and takes me back to the days of just plug and play. I think a complete remake of the trilogy would be cool but the way studios like to pander today makes me feel like it WOULD be as dumb as it COULD be cool.
