The most recommended are Huangshan in Anhui and Yangshuo in Guilin (the most beautiful in spring)! Chinese cities and ancient buildings are the least touristic! Because when you go to more cities, you will find out! It's all the same! The most beautiful thing in China is the natural scenery! All kinds of famous mountains! Zhangjiajie, Huashan, Tibet, Xinjiang, etc...
The wall you visited is not the original wall. It has been rebuilt many times. That is the touristy part of the wall. ‘Badaling’ or something similar. If you go to yhe ‘jingshaling’ area its much more original, less tourists and much more beautiful
Comments from Beijing local in case it would be helpful 1. 长城 The Wall. 八达岭 Badaling is for tourists ("les provinciaux" in a sense 😅). I've only been there once. It has cable cars, almost all the brick walls are rebuilt after Ming and Qing Dynasties. Locals visit other parts of the 20000+km unrefurbished wall for adventurous hiking, climbing or even a bit of mountaineering. The best balance between the posturing Badaling and some random dangerous unprotected wall portion, IMHO, is 八达岭古长城 or "Badaling Caritive Great Wall". It has all the good looking winding walls, a fraction of the tourists, and some relic-looking parts. Plus, it is a great hike on a sunny wintry day! 2. 天安门广场 The Square. Appararently, comparing to Shanghai, Beijing gives you that sense of "political" chill. Yes and no, the square is not a free touristy place. It used to be 20 years ago. Wasn't 30 years ago. Really not much to see if you don't know anything about East Asian history, WWII, and the days before modern China arose. For people who knows what they are looking for, Tiananmen Square is a must visit for almost all with sino-origin. 3. 故宫 The Palace. If there is only one place you can visit in Beijing, the Forbidden City is the way to go. It shows how the imperial civilization went through thousands of years until it reached the end in 1911. I've personally went to the palace around 20 times, and there are still stuff that I haven't seen yet. 4. One more thing? Foreigners may want to check out 国贸 or China World Trade Center area. It's where the modern Beijing stands. 中国人建议看一看宛平城和卢沟桥纪念馆,牢记历史,不忘初心。
I think the problem with the recording in Tiananmen Square is that it is a forbidden zone for drones. But video recordings via smart phones or cameras are never banned for posting online, people in China post their tourism videos online everywhere including Tian'anmen Square. It's probably a misunderstand.
In fact, maybe since five years ago, all unmanned aerial vehicles (small aircraft) have been restricted in the urban area of Beijing, and both Chinese and foreigners must obtain permission to use them.
If you try to use your drone anywhere close to Washington, DC (Even if you’re doing it a couple dozens miles away from the White House) your drone would stop flying in mid air and would drop to the ground if it reaches a certain distance from the White House. That’s because the US government puts a restriction on every drone sold in the US on how far it could fly from the White House and this restriction limits the drone from the White House many many miles away! So if there are any Americans that decry the Chinese government’s restrictions on flying drones near Tiananmen Square please take a look at your own country’s restrictions on flying drone near your country’s capital!

I cannot agree with you more. In my opinion, Beijing stands out as the number one city in China when it comes to blending modernity with ancient charm. I will never forget the nights spent sipping beers in the hutongs, the vibrant atmosphere etc etc...
Visiting the Tiananmen Square, The Forbidden City and trying Peking Duck is an absolute must see and must try for everyone when visiting Beijing. It's awesome and stunning !! Yeah, Peking Duck is expensive....too bad that you have no one to share it. Glad that you like it. Wonderful seeing how much you are enjoying your trip here in China. Well, Ken, you have done such an amazing job showing us this beautiful historical part of China. A huge thanks. Bravo, Ken 💪👍🫰
Regarding the way to eat the peking duck, usually people fold one of the two open ends of the pancake after wrapping up the stuff, hold the wrap up so that you eat from the open end. This way the sauce wont drain out and the eating would be much less messier. This restaurant does not look as professional as the most famous Peking duck restaurant in Beijing.
Huge changes. There were only about 20 of us and 1 (maybe 2) Chinese guides…..That was 52 years ago. We literally had the whole place to ourselves. So it was, as we went to many major cities and places from the north to southern China. By 1980, there were many more visitors from all over the world…….Your videos are very well done. Thank You !!!
Not really. It depends on the brand of the restaurant. Some older, well known brands are way more expensive than others, but they are not really worth the price, cuz they don't actually make better tasting peking ducks. In fact, some of these brands just got lazy since they think they won't run short of customers. The three most well known peking duck restaurants in China, Quanjude, Sijimingfu, and Dadong, are way more expensive than, say, Dayali or Jingweizhai, but their peking ducks practically taste the same. Go ask any Beijinger, and they will tell you how overpriced some peking duck restaurants are. Beijing locals hardly ever go to any of those expensive, big brand restaurants for peking duck.
The largest temple in the Forbidden City was called the Hall of Supreme Harmony, where the Emperor held great ceremonies and ceremonies, and his name in Chinese means that all relations in the universe were harmoniously coordinated. If you follow Huawei, you may have noticed that it releases an operating system called HarmonyOS, and during the opening ceremony of the 2008 Olympic Games, we spent a lot of time showing a Chinese character for Harmony to express our views to the world. Harmony occupies an important place in Chinese culture. We look at the world and see everything in harmony, and you can also see this culture in Chinese medicine, in Chinese foreign policy, and many other places.
Ken you have made a right decision to visit China. Its an eye opening of its historical & beauty. Perhaps you may want to visit Guilin with beautiful cave & Juizaighou the famous glass bridge. China has so much to offer😊.
I was there years ago in November, I walked up and it was very windy. There’s a saying in Chinese ‘If you don’t visit the Great Wall, you are not a true man’ 不到長城非好漢 Ken, you are now a true man 😅
hi, Ken, very glad you have visited the most famous places in Beijing. Your experience seems very interesting, in particular a very foggy Great Wall of China. In fact right our of the Forbidden City, you could find the hill of Jingshan Park where you could easily climb and have the best view of whole Beijing city in a sunny day. The grand Forbidden city lies right in front of you and below your feet. To the east, you could find the CBD area where most modern high skyscrapers stand while in the west you could even the beautiful western mountains if sky is clear enough. If you have time, it is also very worthy to visit the Temple of Heaven and the Summer Palace. Besides Peking Duck which is normally a bit pricy in famous restaurants, you could also try to taste all different inexpensive local delicious food and snacks in Qianmen Dashilan, South Luogu Lane, etc. Most modern part of Beijing is in the east. Enjoy your stay in Beijing and China!
19:15 Places to visit in Beijing: tiananmen squre, the greatwall, forbidden city, sanlitun (bar street nite life), Olympic park (the bird nest and the water cube), houhai (后海,another bar street),the lama temple,798 the modern art park, nanluogu (南锣鼓巷,local hutong), tiantan(the temple of heaven )
All great places. Also visit-- 紫竹院公园 Zizhuyuan Park, the purple bamboo park-- a beautiful and serene park. And for fun 王府井, Wangfujing shopping area. And 清华大学, Tsinghua university, a lovely and large park-like campus of a great university.
Having a whole duck for one person is too much. Shame you didn’t have others there to share with you as well as other foods. Love all you videos. You’re always respectful to the locals. Keep up the good work! ❤
The best roasted duck with good service in Beijing is Shijimingfu branch near the Forbidden city but wait time queue is about 3 to 4 hours during peak dinner & lunch time. So plan your dinner by getting the Queue no first & go shopping nearby Wangfujing biz area check your Queue no be at the restaurant 20 to 30 minutes before waiting time.
Mr Ken even though I have been to China many times before,,,, I had never been to Beijing, Shanghai or Guangzhou. I am more focus travelling mainland China.. Good to see your big city vlog Stay safe and stay happy 🎉🎉🎉
The hospital where I work is very close to the Forbidden City and Tiananmen Square. I think the Palace Museum is the most worth visiting attraction in Beijing. The Palace Museum is not only a former palace, it is also the largest cultural relics research institution in China. As a museum, it has collected many precious cultural relics.
Hi Ken, FYI, Li-Cun is traditionally signifies the beginning of spring for most chinese who celebrate this day as Chinese New Year is happening around this time. (In chinese character (立春) is the first festival of the Chinese solar year and falls on either the third, fourth or fifth of February. Long ago, most farmers often celebrate the beginning of Li-Chun with special village events, and most do continue until today.
After waking up in the middle of the night, I found out that a blogger on Bilibili had reposted your video and knew that you had updated, so I came.🤣 I really like your positive ,objective and emotionally stable travel attitude👍🏻. At the same time, I sincerely want to express my gratitude to you. Your video, as always, contains many local cultural characteristics, allowing me to once again observe my hometown from different perspectives. well, actually I was a bit surprised when I saw you took out a translator ,and I genuinely felt respected and happy that you were willing to use it to communicate with the locals. I am sorry for your visit to the Great Wall on a snowy day and there is no video of Tiananmen Square. Although I have watched many foreigners record videos and post them on UA-cam, I like you for following local rules.👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 I sincerely suggest that you visit China from mid to late May to the end of June every year. I believe that during this period, you can have a great experience in any region of China.(The scenery is as beautiful as a painting.)Don't come to travel during Labor Day, all the attractions are soooooo crowded💥。 The three scenic spots you visited in this video are all very famous to everyone, so you got great choices. I browsed through your comment section and saw someone recommending the National Museum of China near Tiananmen Square. I agree with him. If I travel to a place, I will always first go to famous local attractions to have a rough understanding, and then go straight to the local museum the next day or the second time, which can help me gain a lot. I also don't recommend buying food in the scenic area, it's really a bit expensive🙃,but if it's a very famous restaurant, it's worth a try.(I mean the roast duck restaurant you chose is very famous and authentic.) Please forgive me for using a translator to communicate with you🤣. I hope you continue to travel happily in China😆. Looking forward to your new video!🤩🤩🤩
That roast duck restaurant is located in the "quadrangle courtyard", where the house value is not less than 100 million yuan, and even 500 million yuan, because in ancient times, this was the closest area to the palace, inhabited by high-ranking officials and nobles.
I’m Chinese and I check your travel video on a Chinese platform bilibili .Very thankful that you let someone to see the reality of China. Your videos and comments are very honest and pertinent.Every countries has the good side and bad side but you can truth how Chinese people friendly are. What I want to clarify is that Chinese people Don’t eat dogs.Just few people keep this old customs but reported by western media. I hope we will introduce the animal protection laws asap in China.
I have been to the Great Wall, Tianaman Square and Forbidden City in 2012. Must visit places if you're in Beijing. But this year I will be visiting Xian in March from Perth Australia to see the Terracotta Warriors. As well as being a foodie, I also enjoy visiting the historical places of a country's past and how people lived in those days.
basically these three places are the top picks for people from other provinces to go for their first time visit to Beijing. Instead of using drone, to view the entire forbidden city, you can go to Jingshan Park just next to it.
Yes, pity that he didn't go to Jingshan Park where has the best view of whole forbidden city, and Beihai Park next to it is very classic and beautiful royal park. Well, my favorite is Summer Palace.
In Nanjing visit Dr Sun Yet-Sen Mausoleum . It truly is an incredible experience. Our son lives in Nanjing attending university there and we we loved the city. We started in Shanghai and took the train to Nanjing. Truly a spectacular country. Looking forward to going back very soon now things have opened up again.
The roast duck restaurant is really expensive. I usually eat at less than one-third of the price. However, you get what you pay for. Also, thank you for introducing a real China.
I am an authentic Beijing native. Welcome to Beijing again The Forbidden City is definitely worth visiting, but the best viewing angle is actually in Jingshan Park on the north side of the Forbidden City. The Great Wall is also very worthwhile, but the Badaling Great Wall is usually overcrowded. The Mutianyu Great Wall, Jinshanling Great Wall, and Simatai Great Wall are all worth recommending. If you have local hiking enthusiasts, you can even go and see the Arrow Hook Great Wall, which is my favorite landscape In addition, the busiest area in Beijing filled with skyscrapers is Guomao, just like Shanghai and Guangzhou My favorite perspective for observing Beijing is near Dingdu Pavilion in Mentougou, where you can have a panoramic view of the city and feel its size
At first I thought the roast duck he bought was too exppensive, usually it costs no more than 200 CNY, until I saw the name of the restaurant, 'LIQUN', one of the best roast duck restaurant.
forbidden city is within 2km range of Presidential office(actually part of the forbidden city), ministry of defence, ministry of technology, Navy headquarter and etc. so No drones.😁😁

Bro, first of all, Im so glad you could have such a time in China. I would say, there is no place as the most famous or the "most must go" place. One little suggestion I would make is that trying to get to know some of the history of each places will certainly help you with your experiences. Like imagine how the Great Wall was built 2000 years ago and how soilders were fighting on the wall is a totally different experience than just climbing up there and looking around, you know! I wish you have a wonderful time, keep it up!
Hi, Ken, welcome to China first. Have you ever imagined that one day, a Chinese who had long time lived in Germany would learn English from your videos? LMAO. Your English is authentic for me! Enjoy your trip!
Great to see you in Beijing - I have been there 3 times Great Wall - I went To the - Badaling area , but not in winter The forbidden city is special Thank you for sharing
Roast duck for a whole duck is always cost about 100 RMB, even it is not in the tourist places and in the center of Beijing. It cost you 270 RMB. because the menu said one whole duck, which is about size for 2-3+ and this is in a very tourist area. I recently visit Beijing and in a neighbor supermarket, a booth is selling fresh roasted Beijing duck with one person's size for 22RMB (3 dollar) and a whole duck for 80 RMB (11-12 dollar), you can find some coupon (if you know Chinese and can get coupon from the app like Meituan) for 10% off. But of course, dine in restaurant for a whole duck, it will cost you 200-400 RMB. I have a dinner with a few friends in upscale restaurant, the whole duck costs 395RMB. So, your price is not that bad.
ken,It is recommended that you visit Jiuzhaigou Valley in the summer, it is one of the most beautiful natural landscapes I have ever seen, love ur videos!!👍
Welcome to Beijing! I'm a student studying in Beijing right now. There are many beautiful and unique cities in China! I also recommened Amoy to you, because it's my homwtown lollll. It has splended coast view and historical sites.
That was amazing climbing and sliding down the icy great wall of China 😂 very unique experience.😁 there is no bad weather only bad clothing. Forbidden city looked stunning so much history there in one video. I love history. Food looked great worth the price I would say.👌
I come from Beijing. The Peking duck you ate was at a restaurant in a scenic area, so the price was very high. In general, at affordable restaurants in Beijing, you can get a serving of Peking duck for less than 100 yuan, and if some shops have discounts, a serving of Peking duck can be less than 50 Chinese yuan. Beijing has many attractions, including royal gardens known as the Summer Palace and the Old Summer Palace (Yuanmingyuan), famous universities, and some mountains and temples, such as Xiangshan (Fragrant Hills) and Yonghe Temple. Welcome to visit Beijing again! 🇨🇳.
I’d been to the Great Wall once in Winter many years ago. It was freezing cold and we climbed up slippery stone steps on steep slopes that felt like climbing a mountain. It was really quite an amazing experience and longing to return pretty soon. About the Forbidden City, it was a place that no persons without permit could go in AND out once entered. There were so many stories told about this place. The layers of buildings, and gates of the complex, each had their own functions. They housed important figures and represented powers in this spectacular place. Peking Duck… good that you tried it but indeed it wasn’t a meal meant to be enjoyed by yourself. Always buy in whole. Not possible to finish by yourself 😂
Thank you for your enthusiasm no matter what the situation is! Agree that Peking duck is something to be shared. Too greasy to eat all of it ( even half) by yourself. When in a group, you can have “two eat” or “three eat”, meaning you can have the rest of the duck. Since the course you had was the first course which is mostly the crispy skin, you can then be ask to have the duck meat cooked for you in a separate dish. If the restaurant offers “three eat”, then the bones of the duck are cooked in a soup. My favorite is actually that soup! 🥰
Great videos Ken. I’m off to Asia very soon including China, thanks for the advice about time-kettle I must purchase one of these before I leave. Many thanks

Wow. What an amazing experience.
Beijing roast duck is not expensive, it's 20 dollars each.
It's in US dollars

Thanks a lot Ken for sharing these awesome experiences in Beijing.
You have explained all the important details that I need to know.
The expensive restaurant is very well-known as one of the best places for authentic roast duck. And the price is fair. The same as the locals.
Thank you for promoting China❤
The translator machine looks cool and very convinent when traveling abroad.
great seeing you exploring China !
What an experience! So special !
Great and interesting sharing. I love it once again. Thank you Ken.👍👍👍😍😍😍

peking duck is always that expensive, it takes days to make it and chefs spend years mastering the technique
$38 is expensive? That's like KFC price in Germany.
@@themiddlelayer price of living is a lot lower in China, so wages are too

Ken you have made a right decision to visit China. Its an eye opening of its historical & beauty. Perhaps you may want to visit Guilin with beautiful cave & Juizaighou the famous glass bridge. China has so much to offer😊.
jiuzhaigou is my favourate by far, i visited twice.🥰
I was there years ago in November, I walked up and it was very windy. There’s a saying in Chinese ‘If you don’t visit the Great Wall, you are not a true man’ 不到長城非好漢 Ken, you are now a true man 😅

Happy to hear that 😊
hi, Ken, very glad you have visited the most famous places in Beijing.
Thank youu 🙏

Great suggestions!
All great places. Also visit-- 紫竹院公园 Zizhuyuan Park, the purple bamboo park-- a beautiful and serene park. And for fun 王府井, Wangfujing shopping area. And 清华大学, Tsinghua university, a lovely and large park-like campus of a great university.

for the duck restaurant, it is liqun, so the price is fair, as it is the top in beijing.
Yeah, and except Liqun, most restaurants do serve duck in half for 1 person to eat.

The hospital where I work is very close to the Forbidden City and Tiananmen Square. I think the Palace Museum is the most worth visiting attraction in Beijing. The Palace Museum is not only a former palace, it is also the largest cultural relics research institution in China. As a museum, it has collected many precious cultural relics.
and it's probably the most famous museum in China. definitely recommend if one try to get to know some Chinese culture.
After waking up in the middle of the night, I found out that a blogger on Bilibili had reposted your video and knew that you had updated, so I came.🤣
I really like your positive ,objective and emotionally stable travel attitude👍🏻.
Although I have watched many foreigners record videos and post them on UA-cam, I like you for following local rules.👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
I sincerely suggest that you visit China from mid to late May to the end of June every year. I believe that during this period, you can have a great experience in any region of China.(The scenery is as beautiful as a painting.)Don't come to travel during Labor Day, all the attractions are soooooo crowded💥。
The three scenic spots you visited in this video are all very famous to everyone, so you got great choices. I browsed through your comment section and saw someone recommending the National Museum of China near Tiananmen Square. I agree with him. If I travel to a place, I will always first go to famous local attractions to have a rough understanding, and then go straight to the local museum the next day or the second time, which can help me gain a lot.
I also don't recommend buying food in the scenic area, it's really a bit expensive🙃,but if it's a very famous restaurant, it's worth a try.(I mean the roast duck restaurant you chose is very famous and authentic.)
Please forgive me for using a translator to communicate with you🤣.

What a unique great wall experience!

The roast duck restaurant is really expensive. I usually eat at less than one-third of the price. However, you get what you pay for. Also, thank you for introducing a real China.

You're such a friendly and nice person.
I am an authentic Beijing native. Welcome to Beijing again
The Forbidden City is definitely worth visiting, but the best viewing angle is actually in Jingshan Park on the north side of the Forbidden City.
The Great Wall is also very worthwhile, but the Badaling Great Wall is usually overcrowded. The Mutianyu Great Wall, Jinshanling Great Wall, and Simatai Great Wall are all worth recommending. If you have local hiking enthusiasts, you can even go and see the Arrow Hook Great Wall, which is my favorite landscape
In addition, the busiest area in Beijing filled with skyscrapers is Guomao, just like Shanghai and Guangzhou
My favorite perspective for observing Beijing is near Dingdu Pavilion in Mentougou, where you can have a panoramic view of the city and feel its size

I wish you have a wonderful time, keep it up!
omgg this is an absolutely spectacular cocktail of modern and ancient Beijing
Hi, Ken, welcome to China first. Have you ever imagined that one day, a Chinese who had long time lived in Germany would learn English from your videos? LMAO. Your English is authentic for me! Enjoy your trip!

The Forbidden City in Beijing is also called The Imperial Palace. When it emphasizes the nature of a museum, it is also called the Palace Museum.
Not 2000 years old in that area but extensively renovated over time.

You make really great videos Ken!
