I never expected this series to have the dark edge Made in Abyss had. But it's chill atmosphere, adorable characters and surprisingly good story really made it a joy to follow week by week. Also Chito is best Potato.
Pretty late to this video, but I adore Girls' Last Tour and the world it paints. The bleak, yet somehow wonder-filled land they traverse is a world I'd love to explore, albeit with trepidation. As for best potato, why not both? Much like hashbrowns, you can have them like a plate of chopped potatoes or a pair of patties to suit your tastes. And all that takes more than one potato :)

I think people who expected Girls' Last Tour to be like Made in Abyss were just being stupid. It was fairly clear that the show was intended as an iyashikei slice of life series which used a post apocalyptic setting to explore mono no aware (mono no aware being roughly an appreciation in the impermanence of life and all things in it. That's a very rough look at least). GLT was my favorite series from 2017 (at least of what I've watched, but I think it struck enough chords with me that I'd be impressed to see anything surpass it) so I'm always happy to see people talking about it. The OST is also one of my favorites of the year, likely tied with the OST from Kemono Friends whose OST was a treat. Can't wait to rewatch the series down the line and appreciate things without worry about where things are going and how I'll feel about it, plus rewatching any show after listening to the OST a lot totally augments the experience.
god, reading the manga, NOTHING fucked me up as bad as when the kettenkrad breaks down so they have to dismantle it and they make it into a hot tub, as chiito cries while thanking the kettenkrad for being such a big help :(
Same here. I hadn't read the source material, but the description plus the fact White Fox was the production studio made me really excited for the show. I wish this show would have been a bigger talking point within the community as it was one of favs of 2017. At the very least I wish more people would appreciate the amazing sound design and OST of the show(my personal fav in these two categories, even over Made in Abyss).
+Protagonist agreed. I read the first chapter and was like "yup I think this is exactly my speed." And yeah while it got some love it definitely should've gotten more. I absolutely loved the OST and am sad to see it didn't get a nod in Crunchyroll's awards.
Ya, two of my favorite OSTs of the year (Girl's Last Tour and Kekkai Sensen S2) didn't even get a mention. BTW, not sure how I haven't seen one of your vids before. I kept seeing your viral vid(how to not handle an op character) in my recommended tab, but for some reason I never checked it out. Excited to see what your other content looks like as I enjoyed this video a lot.
+Protagonist Thanks! Haha. Yeah I'm not surprised you've seen that one. Seems like UA-cam decided to push it to EVERYONE. But I honestly am in a lot of ways happier with this video than that one. At least in terms of quality. Funny how that works.
Throughout the whole entire series I always had this feeling something was going to kill them in every episode, whether it be an others, themselves or natural disasters. I realised that it was the world that made me feel that way. Knowing that their was 5 people that we knew about in the whole entire world scared me. 2 young people with less than satisfactory defense scared me in a world where Nuclear devices were a norm. This could be seen in even the first episode where Yuu pulls her rifle on Chi. I heard my heart stop 5 different times in a variety of intervals. That's when I realised how established this world was even before they told us about it's lore
I honestly think each episode in and of itself is worthy enough for "On Geek" episodes. I also greatly appreciate the way it carefully approaches dark or philosophical ideas that we take for granted. A common formula with this series is Yuu asking Chi some sort of open-ended question (which may happen multiple times in an episode) and by the end of it, they've found some answer that completely deviates from what we "normal" people would've said in response to it; at the same time though, their conclusions make sense. I'm not sure how to properly convey my thoughts here, but I loved how they handled this aspect as well.
+PenguinPandaZero maybe I'll make that a sub goal ;). Haha. But I see what you're getting at. I also appreciated how, while they found some answer by the end, they never asserted that "yes this is the correct answer". In that sense it left you to really ponder the question yourself. Additionally, Chi and Yuu never fought over their interpretations of these questions, it was just an honest discussion between friends.
Of all the series I have watched, I have to admit that this is the first anime to give a huge impact on my feelings the moment "Nocturne in E flat major" started to play in episode 12. Such great music chosen for such a great anime. I was so happy that that I swear I wanted to cry but I wasn't able to anyway. Regardless, the plot and setting just fit so much. I love this series. I may be late but I've got to show my appreciation. And honestly, in the end I didn't even know what to feel about this series. It was a huge mixture of wholesomeness and depression. I kinda love it. But all I know is that this series is great. Deserves all my praise.
I really adored this show, and I feel like in some ways, it is a better spiritual successor to the Kino's Journey anime (not necessarily the manga) than the actual sequel/remake because it captures a much more similar tone. The best potato was the one they found after going through the pipes, or Chito, it's a close call.
Sheko Yup the tone and philosophical lessons from the original Kino's Journey is present in this series. The new Kino is just too generic and a bit choppy.
It's amazing! I fell in love with the music with just the first track that plays as the show starts! And I love how every location is unique and different from the last.
Loved the anime and the philosophy of the series as a whole, enjoy every little thing along the way and live in the present. But when I got to the manga it literally broke me, hadn´t cried like that in quite a while.
I’ve read the manga and it’s amazing, from the atmosphere to the characters they meet along the way. It made a single fish interesting, that’s how good it is. I am so glad it got it’s own show!!
I'm really really really late. Cuz last year I wasn't into anime and I thought it was crap like Minecraft, but after I gave it a try and watched GLT. It hit me. This is what I've been wanting for so long! This anime is the best in my opinion. I'm glad that I got to watch it!
@@bewater8417 Lol, here I am, 2 years later. The date they take their first photo is August 6th 3230. Girls' Last Tour is set 1,210 years in the future.
I cried as I watched and smiled at the same time. It was a beautiful and educating anime in many ways.. :') I want to see more adventures of Chi and Yuu.
Thank you!! You described perfectly how I felt when watching this series. For me, this is one of the best I have seen in a very long time. I was about to give up hope of anime producing another truly great story (I thought perhaps Made in Abyss was a fluke) then this one came along and restored my faith in good story-telling. Not to mention Magus Bride as well... I am very excited to see what this new season has in store for us! Smartphone nearly destroyed the faith I had left though. If ever there needs to be an example of the worst anime has to offer, over-used cliches, lazy plots, fan-service overload, op hero... just point to that one. For me it felt like the Twilight Series of anime.
This is probably my AOTY but also the one I have the most difficulty recommending to people. In a world where people want that first Attack of Titan episode, that clear and simple but great premise of One Punch Man, that Haikyuu hype or the promise of sakuga every episode, all the while hating things that look like moe (reasonably). It'sp such a great serious anime that's better seen without expectations, all under the cover of two potatoes and a gimmick, how do you guys recommend this?
Greetings everybody I see nobody dogs so much on this thing but don't think I'm mad cause I saw it today the first time lol season pratik pratically took me a week but I like it very much cause is very understandable I can feel where they come from you sometimes you feel like the no world is there nobody in the world how's it true part for me cause I'm working alone but this season I hope the another one comes out like this
+The Hunter x Hunter 2011 Dickriding Association thanks. :). Felt good to get it out. Despite not knowing much about music, I thought that bit at least got my point across. It was also fun to edit in the soundtrack from the show because WOW, I really like it.
It sucks becuase in the manga, the author killed them off in a symbolic way which is sad when it finally hits you. I loved this anime aftrr the first episode, it did give me made in abyss vibes but I wouldn't compare them any farther than their amazing sound tracks thst give both shows more of an atmosphere becuase it gives bland moment's more color.
+Nin potato on the bright side, it seems Sentai Filmworks, the people who license a lot of stuff, are not too happy with Anime Strike. So fingers crossed
I went in going oh look a cute loli wait isn't that the one dabing on the hentai haven discord and at the end i felt like if the didnt have these cute girls around everyone who watched this show would put a gun to there head the finnal scenes where scary in a way to see how the citys started how the bombs fell how humanity went to war and out dependence on robots cause the down fall over everything
I never expected this series to have the dark edge Made in Abyss had. But it's chill atmosphere, adorable characters and surprisingly good story really made it a joy to follow week by week.
Also Chito is best Potato.
+Clayton Rios "Chito is best Potato."
You... I like you.
+TazerLad Thanks. Sorry for hating on Mineta. I really like your stuff.
+Clayton Rios oh don't worry. I don't really care for Mineta myself. Right down their with Aoyama in terms of my character rankings.
+TazerLad As long as you think Momo is okay we're cool.
Honestly I think we're cool either way.
+Clayton Rios Momo is great. Honestly all of the HeroAca girls are.

Girls Last Tour was one of the most overlooked shows of last season. Glad to see someone giving it the praise it deserves.

Before I watched it I sort of expected it to be a little darker but not to dark because of the art style of chi and yuu and also chi is best potato

I’ve never had a series make me think, feel, and wonder as much as this hidden gem.
