- I didn’t even know what rose hips were until I moved to England. Now I’m making syrup out of them! But it’s so good, and a great source of antioxidants and Vitamin C. They’re going to be great Christmas presents, I’ve just got to finish juicing the rest of them now…

when i the rose bush attacked you I literally laughed out loud
I did too! 😂
My grandmother was in service at mapperton house, imagine she walked those halls ❤
When it says to strain twice it means to strain the liquid twice not put the pulp back into the strainer. Then there wont be pieces in the final product
This is exactly what I was getting ready to text but thought I'd read through some to see if anyone else had also been thinking she needed to know.
😂so American x
i totally love the randomness of each of your BTS Mapperton videos...it keeps it so interesting. I wrote down this recipe and think i'll try making it from my rose hips this week!
What I love about you is how you've embraced English/British culture, yet always remember where you came from. You're proof that it can be done! Greetings from NY! 🥰
i like the fact that your a meesy pup.
it means non professional
which in turn means i feel confident enough to join you.
OMG. I just love you!! You are so genuine and funny. I just found your channel and I am completely hooked. Thanks 🙏 so much for your videos.
You are so down to earth no wonder you are loved. Great show from Alabama USA.
Wow, thank you!
Julie, I don't know how I happened upon your channel, but I love your positive energy and enthusiasm.
Oh thank you!
Lol I’m glad you survived the harvest. 😂
I just made rose hips syrup! Unfortunately a lot of the hips were too far gone so I only made a very small batch. I waited for the first frost which is late this year. I am told that if we want to make tea it tastes better after the first frost.
FANTASTIC JULIE. I WOULD LOVE TO TRY IT. WHAT A WONDERFUL IDEA FOR CHRISTMAS GIFTS. SUCH A LABOUR OF LOVE. HOMEMADE CHRISTMAS GIFTS ARE THE BEST. COMING TO VISIT ONE DAY FOR SURE. XOXOXO.
Please do!
Twice strained means you strain the fruit, then strain the JUICE, after its all been collected from the fruit. Just a handy tip for a less cloudy end product! 👍
You're amazing Julie! You make me laugh so much! I love your recipes! I have a journal that I'm doing my father's genealogy in and I have your recipes written down in another section that I hope to make one day! It's great that you can use what's on your property! I'm not good on ladders, either! Great job! Thank you for sharing!
I know this was done last year but I can not wait to come over and spend a few days there to explore and taste what Mapperton offers. 😃🥰
So Happy I found your videos! The first one viewed was when you bought the Italy property... now I’ve shared with family and friends on FB because you are delightful! Grazie 🤩
Thorny things...yes, it's a rose bush!
Julie, you bloody well cracked me up in the rose hip patch. I literally chocked on my tea laughing. I watch all the videos I can find, but I'm looking forward to a progress report from Tuscany.
Keep on Shinning and thanks for the laughs. Your new fan from Texas. P.
Julie you are so multitalented! What a great idea to make Rosehips syrup!
It's so good!
Rose hips for medicinal purpose and eating has been around Spence ancient times.
sense
Love this! I'm definitely going to make this! You're awesome! Can you prune this back in order to make it lower/safer for you to reach? I'm learning so much from your natural recipes! I'm sure everyone loved your homemade gifts!!!! Can you please make more recipes with Rise hips?
I love all your food related videos. I will try make them for sure. 🤣 How hilarious you're getting stuck on the thorns 😆🌹
I love your stringing apparatus, look so easy but so useful, I wish I had one, I never seen one like that before.
Rosehips, the fruit of the rosa rosa. High vitamin c. Love you Julie. Thank you for sharing your life. Sherry-Gettysburg, PA.
Wonderful!
Rose hip syrup is sooo good for immume system!🙌❤️
Looks yummy. Very good job.
I have to say Julie you are funny and make me laugh. But it's wonderful watching you trying different things.
Hysterical opening!
If a particular thorn or a particular branch is troublesome, bend off the thorn wearing gloves, or sometimes you can prune it.
Took rose hips for years while growing up. Love the Aga!!
Julie, what happened to the rosehip pulp after cooking? Did you feed it to your chickens or other live stock? Thank you for sharing
Both!
I'm doing this tomorrow with dried hips, but adding some elderberries because I have a cough,so that should be nice! By the way dont get any stalks in with your elderberries. The stalks contain harmful trace elements. Use a fork to ease the berries off.
If you sell them I would recommend to waterbath the bottles for 10 min to make them shelfstable for yrs.
Such a nice thing to do...
a labor of love 💕
Lol. Keeping it real on this show. I love it .
Never worked with Rosehips, but have heard about it. Have made Crab apple Jelly and love it. Never had Rose hips though. This truly sounds very good.
Th rose hips remind me of the grapevines or roses and how they can seem to attack. I have always told my husband that if I stood still near a grapevine they would just take me over! That is how you feel. You are stuck and cannot get lose and they own you! lol
Thank you for adding so much to our day and the teaching you do here plus the sharing and enjoyment we receive cannot be forgotten. You give so much of yourself and we thank you and the whole family at Mapperton.
Just found your show. Love it.
Glad you enjoy it!
Thank's for sharing!!
We always remove the hair and the seeds from the rose hips, it is a very time consuming project, but it is well worth it and the final product will be sweeter.
Are the rose hips from a special rose bush or just any bush??. Thanks.🌹
There's nothing for sale on line? A store on line would be great! I'd really like to try your rose hip syrup!
coming soon!
I know this might be a silly question, but can dried rose hips be used or is best fresh from the plant?
It was always the Rose Hips, It was always the Rose Hips. 🌹😍
Straining twice is to make sure you get all the little hairs out , which are an irritant
Have you thought about using the seed for oil
Please get some ladder leg bases to make it more secure when at height
Ever thought about doing a rose hip dry oil beauty oil?
Great idea!
You can’t do that at home, the seeds need to be cold pressed using industrial equipment as the oil is from the seeds, not the flesh of the hip.
@@AmericanViscountess There is rose hip infused oil, where the base oil is olive oil or jojoba, and then rose hip oil extracted from the seeds. Two different end products.
As long as the mixture has been heated to kill the bacteria etc there is no danger of the solids going rancid.
Can’t wait to try this!😁🌈🌞
Where did you get your receipt? I have wanted to try this with wild roses.
how did you sterilise the botthes, Julie?
Debbie here,,👩🌾 how do you store your bottles of rose syrup? I was surprised when you didn’t process them some how for shelf stability….
I had the same question.
what if you just patted it down gently with a wooden spoon? would that be the same as squeezing it?
What about the seed hairs?
Which rose would you recommend growing for rose hips? We're in zone 5 (NY).
Species roses, like Rosa rugosa or rambler roses usually have the biggest reddest hips. There are many cultivars of rugosa that will grow well in your area. They are very hardy, but also very thorny and only bloom once. You also have to NOT deadhead, otherwise you are cutting off the fruit of the rose which are the hips. The dried hips make a nice herbal tea too.
@@itzel1735 Thank you! Hope you had a lovely Christmas.
Here I am a year later because I have rose hips. I don’t have enough to make this.
What about date sugar?
That jelly bag is not cotton muslin! It is synthetic net!
Did you forget that roses have thorns? :)
I would love to know about your hat. Could you sell them through your shop?
... and please consider wearing safety glasses when harvesting. Really anytime your working around thorny vegetation, bushes, and trees. We’d like to continue learning from you for as long as possible.
Ahaha! Vine attack!🥀
Lol! Be careful! Those rose hips bushes are going to hurt you!
I hope you sterilized the bottles before you poured the syrup in!
Hips are high in Vitamin C.
You also need to leave some rosehips for all the wild birds, remember it doesnt just belong to humans, its an essential food for wildlife to consume. Birds love the seeds from the rose hips. I appreciate these hips you are using are on your property but i still feel to be fair .....leave some out there.
What is the matter with the staff at Mapperton? Why don’t they help this tiny poor lady and not have her carry her ladder, or pick stuff for her? This is really unchivalrous of the staff at that home.
Please wear eye protection doing those things Julie.
Unfortunately, the medicinal benefits will be diminished by adding sugar. 🙄
No,the sugar acts as the preservative. Otherwise it would go off in days.
What about using honey as a preservative?
Americans doing the Metric system 🤣 sounds so weird 🇺🇸🧮📐📏😂
I feel for her as an American. It’s like a foreign language to us. We use old the old school English ways. Imperial measurements, the style of our dates…
I would like to make rosehip syrup using rosehip juice from concentrate, so that it is similar to the lovely Delrosa syrup I had as a child. Is it just a matter of making a syrup from sugar and water and adding juice to the syrup?
