An American's Guide to the Isle of Skye

  • We had such an adventure a couple of weeks ago, traveling from Dorset to the Isle of Skye, and spending a week in an amazing house on the shores of Loch Bay. You can watch the full, uncut video over on my Patreon account: / americanaristocrat
During the week, we did so many hikes, yoga, cold water immersion therapy and foraging. My son Nestor took so many amazing photographs (we're probably going to do a separate film about this) and found out the fascinating history of Clan MacLeod , bitter rivals of Clan MacDonald of Sleat.
Sit back, relax and enjoy this extended episode from one of Scotland's most beautiful locations...
Oh, and here's the link for the cottage on Airbnb - definitely one to add to your bookmarks for when you can travel again airbnb.co.uk/ro...

When your kid says your walk was a 11 out of 10, that is a perfect day!!

As an American of Scottish descent, and a devoted Anglophile, I can't even imagine your good fortune in marrying someone in the UK....let alone an aristocrat. What a lovely boy your Nestor is. How proud you must be of all your lovely children. I'm SO envious! I'm really enjoying your channel, my dear. I live in Laguna Beach, California, which is beautiful...but my heart is always in Scotland.

I was on Skye on tour Scotland in 2013 in first weeks of April. The number of lambs seen in countryside was astonishing. It was very cold and wet but wonderful. The smells and beautiful sights were great.

Skye is so beautiful! I visited there 3 years ago. It rained all day but it was still so beautiful. I think I counted 12 rainbows that day.

I haven't been to Skye yet but I spent 5 days on the Isle of Mull and remember every second of that trip. Thank you for taking the time to film this...can't get enough of the views. My heart definitely belongs to Scotland ❤️

I have Been and Lived in Scotland for 5 yrs , and a American. We went on a Tour of places in Scotland and Skye .By the time we left Edinburgh.I have a Van full of people from around the world Ready to Do a Polar Bear Jump in Loch Ness. 6 of us did it ,Just near the wee lighthouse entrance to the canal system . I being a larger yank-ee (lol) had the worst hypothermia. The Scots with us including my spouse stayed out of the Loch (of course smarter) Good thing we had Scottish Whiskey on board the Van ! No drams for me I chugged it .. But there is a Stream in Skye, Legend has it that if you put your face in the Stream for one min. It takes ten yrs off your face ..I did it 3 times Large American down! Loved Quiraing and The Storr.. Fairy Pools, Eilean Donan, Kilt Rock. But if you ever go to Sterling, You must stay at Plean or Plane Castle Its lodging Castle That you can rent ! Has furniture in the Main Hall is lovely and rooms and a Feasting room with the fireplace to match. A place where you would be comfortable for a Viscountess A Viscount And Nestor for Pictures even a hobble room in the back yard area .Great History on the rebuilding of the castle from a ruin ... Cheers !

Oh how nice to see Waternish and Skye on a vlog! I spent lots of holidays there because my grandparents used to live in Waternish, my cousins and Aunt and Uncle in Edinbaine, did you get to Edinbaine?
My uncle runs the pottery there which is popular with the tourists. I live in Norway now, but plan to travel to visit family on skye and Scotland once COVID allows it. Thanks for sharing 🥰🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🇳🇴

Outstanding video. I returned to North Yorkshire from visiting the North West Highlands of Scotland on 21st November and, like you, I will be going back! I suspect it's been 20 years since I visited Dunvegan Castle though.
I just KNEW your husband was kidding you about the time you'd spent in the water, but well done anyway!

Family McLeod. To think my Grandmother’s family lived on Skye longer than any history knows. Coming to America
must have been huge culture shock back in mid nineteenth century.

Surely Skye is one of the best places to stay in Scotland... Should it be too rainy, then there is always the Gaelic language courses in Sleat on the southern most coast. I am going to start the online Duolingo Scottish Gaelic course just as soon as I have finished the Irish Duolingo course... I am NEVER again going to be bored on a rainy day in either Ireland or the Highlands of Scotland....
