- Here is a Homemade Rose Hips Syrup Recipe that's high in Vitamin C. Rose Hips have 20 times more Vitamin C than oranges! This is a wonderful syrup to have on hand during cold and flu season.

Making Rose Hips (or Rosehips) Syrup became popular in England during the Second World War when Britain was not importing fresh fruit, including citrus. This syrup made an excellent alternative source of Vitamin C.
Depending on where you live, Rose Hips ripen in late summer to early fall, but you can also use dried Rose Hips in this recipe as I do. Various varieties of Rose Hips are edible, as long as they haven't been sprayed with pesticides or herbicides. When harvesting your own Rose Hips, larger hips are best such as those from Rosa Rugosa, as it takes less time to pick these types as opposed to the small hips. It can take less than 5 minutes to pick two cups worth of hips from a Rosa Rugosa.

Hi Sweet Friends, Today I am sharing how to make Rose Hips Syrup. This is very high in Vitamin C and a wonderful addition to your Natural Home Remedy Pantry. Great presentation as always, but please leave out the vitamin C content, since heat will destroy the V/C especially making sirup and boiling it ...
You could also put some in ice cube trays and freeze then put into a freezer bag. Then add an elderberry/honey ice cube to a cup of hot tea. Especially if you are drinking tea for a cold or flu. I would definitely add ginger root when making my syrup too!
We used to have it on rice pudding as kids at school in the 70’s in the uk.
Is so clever to freeze the rosehips for a second usage in teas, Mary! Making rosehips syrup for medicinal purpose, a great idea! I will try to find some rosehips and some! Thanks for sharing!

Great recipe, and great idea for the leftovers to make tea!!
FYI, Another way, the healthiest way to get nutrients from any plants or seeds is to: poor very hot water On top of the seeds or plant materials that are in a s/s pot or glass pot, and cover tight, let steep 20-30 min. or even longer... then strain out and drink warm! love ya thank you!
I'm in the uk and can remember we all went out to the school field, pupils and teachers to pick rosehips to send to syrup manufacturers.
Yummy add to smoothies
Thank you! We have tons of wild rose hips here in Oregon and I knew they had nutritional and medicinal value but, I never quite got around to looking up how to utilize them. This helps a lot. I love the tea ball idea as well. Love your videos. Have a great day :)

Hi Mary that is a very good idea for the left over rose hip to make 🍵 out of I’m waiting for my rose hip to so I can pick them I do have some for last year so I’ll probably just use that and thanks again for sharing this video.
NOW I know why my WWII raised mother was fanatical about giving us rosehip syrup, vitamin C tablets, garlic tabs etc as her mother did the same.
Thoes tea balls would be nice ice tea cubes the flavor would build as you drink your ice water... great idea well done...

Hi. Did you remove itchy stuff from inside of rose hips after crushing and before boiling?
I was wondering about this as well. I have the dried rosehips but I'm trying to find out how to separate the seeds n itchy stuff.
Thanks for this info Mary. .definitely something on my list of does. Hope all is well xoxox 💚😊

Can you yous frozen rosehip ,thanks for you recipes I am making lots of them xx
Fascinating and quite thorough in your explanation! Thank you so very much ❣️ 😁👍
Do you have a video on harvesting fresh rosehips? Not sure if I use the whole thing or remove the seeds first.
You can totally use the whole rose hips just be sure to use a fine cheese cloth because you don't want the seeds or hairs in your syrup. Though I'd recommend freezing the rosehips it makes them sweeter.
I wonder what part of the Rose would be good for beauty treatment. Thank you.
Thanks Mary. In one of your videos you mentioned Fire Cider tonic. There are a lot of videos about making it but if you do make it I’d love to see your take on it, I trust your way of making these tonics.

That’s a great question. I’m not sure. Do roses grow in your area? If so, you can collect the “hips” from the base of each rose. But make sure the plant has not been sprayed with pesticides. Otherwise, you might find them at an herb shop or online. Love, Mary❤️🤗❤️
I wish you would include the full recipes in the video description below the video, I have had trouble getting recipes from your website. Even a link to the recipe would be great!
Manny Perez - Hi Manny, I am so sorry about that! There should be a direct link to the recipe in the description below the video. I would put it here in the comments but you may not see it. Often outside links in comments don’t show up in YT because they do not like us to link outside of YT. Scroll through the description under my video, and see if you see the link to my website (and it should be a direct link to this recipe.). The reason I put it lower down in the description is that...again - if I put it up to high in the description, YT does not like that I am linking away from YT. These are all the things that I have learned as a creator! LOL!! It is quite a learning curve! Please let me know if you can find the link in the description. If not, send me an email. My contact info is on my website. Love, Mary

Great video, thank you! I find it fascinating being able to make tea or a syrup from these rose hips (I've seen rose hip tea in local health food stores I visit but had no idea about making it before until my husband who is from the Ukraine suggested I collect those from our bushes. A question is should the rose hips be red in color as the ones on our rose bushes are orange. Could it be the climate we live in (southern CA) that makes the difference or type of roses maybe?
Hi Dianne. Rose hips range in color....but the colder the nights get....the stronger the color and the medicine
Hi Mary I'm your new subscriber I'm from Switzerland I have a question can you use the buds of any rosebush?? I await your reply
Can you freeze it once it's all decanted? Thank you for your excellent tips!!
Mary I love your vids, but just one question after boiling the rose hips are the vitamins killed by the heat ?
Sweet Mary you are such a cleaver lady .... Love your Rose hip tea idea.
Mary, thank you so much for this video on rose hips. I've always heard/read that Vitamin C is lost when an herb/fruit is heated. Is that true? Thanks again.
Mrs. Mary, where did you get your tea ball? What size is it? I have one but mine are all smaller. Thank you.
Does the syrup need refrigeration for the 6 months or is shelf stable?

Thanks for this wonderful recipe. However I live in Canada where can I make purchases
Where in Canada? In Alberta, we have wild roses. I’m sure they are all over Canada. They are light to dark pink, have 5 petals, and look like a flower
Do you have this recipe in the description box
Does totally wild roses growing in the woods cont for organic
Hi! Although 4 years old, you didn’t make mention of removing the itchy hair particles inside of the rose hips.
Mary’s Nest: Hi, Mary; So many people talk about using rose hips emphasize an idea that the small hairs inside the hip and cause damage to a persons body, I need to be meticulously scraped out with none left.
That. I did is the reason for which I start using rose hips, because I was afraid that I’d miss a hair or two just not being able to see them, and set myself back in terms of my health, not to mention any family members or friends.
I didn’t hear any of that from you in this video. I’m cautiously optimistic about this, and so am I if you do this comment to ask you if you had to deal with the little seeds and hairs inside each hip first, or if you just put it all in there in the pot together, and let the heat take care of it.
I do hope you’ll get back to me on this, as it would make a real difference to me. And probably others as well.
Thank you for the lovely video. I feel like I could do this, Having watched your tutorial. You make it seem very doable, and I’ve no doubt that you’re right about that. :-)
Edit: I had to come back. It just occurred to me that if you were to take your rose hips after your simmer them, let them cool, and put them through your juicing machine, you’d extract a lot more of the juice, and still have the pulp, but it would be much Dryer).
You could possibly then put the pump in the dehydration unit to use for tea.
Full disclosure: I have not yet tried this, but depending on your answer to my comment about the Rosehip hairs, I hope to try this in short order. :-)
Just wondering if I can add dried flower petals to the honey 🌸

Hi Mary, just wondering could you use rosehips from cultivated roses.
no do not use cultivated roses it has different qualities they do not turn red so that is an indication
How often do you take it?
Does the high heat when you reduce it destroy some of the vitamin C?
We make elderberry syrup all the time. Have you ever made a blend of elderberry and rosehip syrup?
Doesnt boiling the rose hips destroy the vitamin C!?
I wonder about boiling the tea. I am thinking boiling the rose hips destroys the vitamins including VC.
What about date paste my daughter allergic to honey?
Where do I get that tea strainer thing that you use as like a tea bag? And what's the name of it?
that’s a great question. I’ve had mine for years. It’s called a “Tea Ball”. Try searching on Amazon or… If you have a kitchen store in your area, I’m sure they carry one. Keep me posted if you find one. Love, Mary❤️🤗❤️

Where do you source rose hips? How to harvest?
Where do you get your honey?
But I couldn’t sleep
I was taking, now stopped
Could u pls say why this problem I facing .
Did you find worms in the rose hips? I was looking at one video where the guy was making rose hip soup. There were like yellow worms in the pods.
Those were the seeds not worms. Check a book on roses.
