  • In this video, the final part of the Great Glen Canoe Adventure, we enjoy a rolling swell and spectacular views as we continue our way along the mighty Loch Ness. Carrying all of our gear for the trip, we reach our final camp spot near the end of the Loch, close to Dores - an epic 17 mile paddling day. As we enjoy our final evening together around the fire, reflecting on the journey so far, our minds move towards tomorrow and the final push to our goal - Inverness and the end of the trail.
But like with the end of all great trips, thoughts begin to drift towards the next adventure and ideas and plans start to develop - we will certainly all paddle together again some day!
There are twelve of us on this trip, attempting to raise money for the Alzheimers Society. I would like to thank everybody who has already donated to this essential cause, we have already smashed our target, but with your help we can go further! - I’ll put a link below to the JustGiving page.
I will also put links to the UA-cam channels and Instagram pages of the other guys who took part in this adventure - please go and check out their videos for their takes of the trip!
Drone shots by Simoneardleyart - thanks mate!
I hope you enjoy the video.
    Thanks for watching.

In the US, thru-hikers call people who donate supplies, etc "trail angels". The gifts, services etc are called "trail magic". How lovely to see that the folks over there engage in the practice too.

Fantastic to see how good people always respond to help a fundraiser with some comforts to aid the effort and lift the spirits. I admire the “trail angels” so much and the goodness that’s in them to think and act to help.

This was a very special 5 days of my life that I will never forget, to think it is over still gets me, just the perfect weather, time and people and now to see that we have hit £14,000 is just mint blowing. It couldn't have gone any better, thank you Simon for such a lovely series of video's.
Now, haha that Nessie win for you the night before the last was well deserved mate, I couldn't have stomached all the jellied, squishy goodness that deer had to offer 😄.
I really enjoyed the break down of gear too mate towards the end of the video, I liked how you went through certain things and what use you got out of them.
    Classic ending to this series.
Once again i was so happy you came with us mate, all the very best, Ant 👍

Watching you and your friends on this canoe trip has been such a pleasure. I’m so glad you did well with the Alzheimer’s contributions. Your pride and joy, with her sailing rig served you well. I’m so happy you were able to continue, with the tape repair, obviously due to the superb construction of the canoe in the first place. A little time in the shop and she’ll be in tip top shape again with an adventure wound to tell a story. Know who’s gear isn’t a bit beat up? Folks who stay home. I’m glad you get out there, Man. Well done. Thanks for taking us along. Texas

Bravo to you and the rest of the Team as it was definitely a Team Effort. I am very glad that you were able to do a quick repair of your "yacht",,,lol. I can't wait to see the full repair video and the next upcoming adventure you'll take us all on.
I'm ecstatic with the amount of funds you all raised for this very worthy cause as I seen it 1st hand in my own family and how it robs a person.
Please take good care of yourself, your gear, your friends and family. Gods Peace and Blessings from l'il me in Alabama, USA. Cheers~

Ness is a huge Loch so not surprised to see it looking choppy though it did calm down, you all did well especially with those sails up! That speed! Those packet meals came in handy but good score with the eggs and chicken of the woods. I missed the last bus from Urquhart castle and ended up walking back to inverness along the Loch, I'd bought a bunch of miniature whisky bottles so it was a good time, got a lift thankfully in the end, only remembered when i saw your shot of it. Great journey for you all and all for a good cause, well done the lot of you.

Those old boats you pass @ 23.36 are old coal barges, one was called BumbleBee they were used to supply coal to all the villages along the Loch down to Fort Agustus from wher you finished before the roads were properly built, I do quite a bit of fishing at the BumbleBee..Where you pass under the bridges @ 29.30 I actually live a 5min stroll from there just behind the cemetery hill called Tomnahurich...Tom na h'Iùbhraich, 'hill of the yew wood' in our language ..or The Fairy hill locally . Its been an interesting watch start to finish Simon and great to see from a Ducks eye view so to speak..lol, Many thanks for the videos .

You always pick such wonderful music to accompany your excellent vids. When I saw the protruding rock ahead of you and you struggling to avoid it, in the river Oich, my heart lept into my throat. The sound of the scraping wood strips of that beautiful canoe just tore me up. Being a senior sailor, I loved seeing you set sail (I learned the basics on a Super Sailfish back in the late 50's) and cruise effortlessly on your way. Also, as a rower (Cox'n at first and then as Stroke (4's, 6th Boat!) in "prep school") , thanks for catching that "skuller" at the end of the trip. (One early AM, I snuck dow to the lake and took the headmaster's skull out for a tour around the lake... nobody was the wiser. Had I been caught, "they" would have thrown me in irons and left me to die underneath the kitchen.) And I loved that un-official review of your kit at the end. 'Nuff said. Oh, and I wish you had pinpointed via GPS coordinates or compass bearings your nightly stopovers. It would have been fun tracing your trip precisely on Google Earth. Simon, your videos are top notch. Paddle on.... Nessie makes a good figure head! Cheers!

Glad Nessie had pride of place on your canoe as the trip ended. Your group must have been a great sight for onlookers.
If folks think there aren't good people left in the world, they only need to see your great group. Congratulations on completing the journey and for reaching your donation goal. 🥳🎉🥳

Good job, Simon and Team! What a beautiful adventure for a great cause. My grandmother passed from Alzheimer's over 10 years ago and her younger brother, my last surviving great uncle, is suffering from dementia currently. He's still hanging in there but his state is fragile enough that we did not tell him of my father's passing back in 2018 for the effect it might have had on him because Dad and Uncle Boyd were very close. So I have seen, and still see, the affects that such mental conditions can cause. I'm not a very religious guy but Ant and his family are in my thoughts.
Also. Isn't Ginge's scruffly little dog just the cutest thing!?

I'm so very sorry to hear what pain you have been through. Nobody can imagine what it feels like, it's horrific. Each day you hope you get that chance they may recognise you, to say they love you. Those days are getting fewer now for us. My Dad now only sees me most of the time as his mate and that is so very hard to take.
Anyways sorry for that. Thank you so much for your words and for your support pal. All the very best yo you and your family too.

@@AntSurviveTheNight Thank you, Ant. It was very tough on Dad when Nanny started to decline. She'd greet him and not recognize him and then a few minutes later say "Jerry Paul is that you? When did you get here?" So we've certainly shared similar experiences. I wish I could offer more than kind words over here from the States. I'd have certainly been by if I were anywhere in your part of the world while you guys were out. Stay strong.

Simon that was an amazing trip! I have enjoyed watching all 4 vids in this series. I appreciate you raising money too, for the Alzheimer's Society. My grandmother suffered with the disease before her passing. It's sad watching folks go through that.
Scotland sure looks pretty! It's a bucket list country for me to want to see, as is much of the UK. Thanks for the glimpses of it. I'm planning on watching the repairs to your canoe soon. Want to see how that is done. I live in a flat water area and have little experience with rapids too. You captured some good footage as you went through the rapids, really enjoyed seeing that. You handled it pretty well I thought.
Thanks for the PM on the camera mounts. Already have them looked up and added to my wish lists!
    Best to ya Simon
    ~Karl

Was supposed to be packing for my OBX (Outer Banks, North Carolina) trip which begins this weekend but took this lovely detour into Simon's Scotland paddling videos. What a joy -- will keep these in mind while paddling on Pamlico Sound. Thanks, again, Simon! I think these are your best videos, yet!
