  • hWe go on a multi day canoe expedition to the wilderness of Scotland. Travelling 60 miles by canoe and wild camping along the way. Our trip starts at Fort William and finished in Inverness. We travel across the Caledonian Canal, through Loch Lochy, then onto Loch Oich where we join the wild river Oich and paddle through grade 2 rapids. Then we enter the monster loch ness and spend two days paddling and wild camping the 22 miles of this loch. Finally, we enter into the small Loch Dochfour and into the last section of the Caledonian Canal where we finish in Inverness. It was an epic trip, with rain storms, rapids, bugs and most importantly, incredible company!

Great to see you in Scotland, I spent many a year with my dad fishing all over, sadly he died 10 yrs ago with alzheimer's. He originally came from Devon and left when he was only 18 to Scotland, we use to laugh at his Scottish/Devon accent. I wish he was here now to watch your video. After he passed away I scattered his ashe in Loch Awe where he tried but never succeeded in catching a Ferrox trout. Your doing this for a great charity, I really hope you enjoy my back garden "Bonnie Scotland "🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Loch oich is a belter for pike and ferox trout , my stepdad and I had our last camping trip there before he died . We caught a 26lb pike and a 5.5lb ferox from the shore with rapalas and my stepdad fell in the loch drunk as he took a wizz at night ..twice !... hope your having a blast camping in the big glen in the sky Ramsey ! You were the best dad a son could wish for .. Thanks TA outdoors for bringing back good memories

A great video, I’ve been watching a lot of Simon, a Bloke in the Woods YT Channel, doing this too? I like his Customised Canoe, with him being able to set up Sail. I’m wondering why none of the Canoes, even his?
Aren’t also Customised to become Shelters in their own right? With maybe one of those tiny Cubit Stove’s or a Bio-Lite Stove, to also charge your USB Powered Devices as well as Cooking and Heat, with maybe a Quick Release Fixture for it, so it can’t move any way?
Couldn’t a Foldable Prop Stand be Set up, on both ends of the Canoe, to support a Line? To then have an All Weather Tarp or Mosquito Net, be thrown over it? With some hooks or Velcro to seal it to the sides of the Canoe?
Just a couple of ideas for any future video, for another Temp Shelter?

Thank you for this video. It is so much better than many documentaries I see on television. It makes me wonder if you write for a living. If not why not? I'd buy your books and read your articles. I rather fancy a book of a series of your adventures, rather like Kate Humble's ‘Thinking on My Feet’ with an audio book, read by you, to listen to when I’m working. Well, I’m now off to check out some of your other videos. Thanks again, this video cheered up a rather lack lustre morning.

Many thanks for posting, brought back a lot of memories as I worked in Inverness and the Highlands for a couple of years, contracting for the NHS, and spent most of my time flirting between Inverness and Fort William, driving next to the canal and the lochs (48:00 - rented a room in the house on the right for a while!) Many thanks for posting, and well done on your trip, and the charitable work that you have all done for a very very worthwhile cause. All the best. Nick

When I was young my family did a drive around Scotland. They took in lots of fun things, including a toured boat trip around Loch Ness and of course the MONSTER was the big deal. Some 40 or 50 years later now, at my better thinking age, I know that the Viking era Norse ship wrights made boats on the shores of Loch Ness. Would have been cool as heck to see a Dragon Boat rise from the water :)

I do want to go canoeing now. That last lock was so clear and if the surface is like glass I like to look into the water to see fish, plants, patterns, deep depths so beautiful.

Well done documentary. I like this style of combining different subjects, nice filming, editing, voice-overs, small tips, product demos. Compliments. Also, wow, what a great country.

A wonderful video. I love Scotland, I go every summer to amazing places. As you said Lord of the Rings I thought about a place one of my best friends took me to, it was like the Emerald Forest and it was magical. Scotland always brings surprises, magic and unexpected weather. Glad you had a great time.

To be fair Mike I hadn't watched to many of your videos. This film though justifies your near 2 million subs. Thoroughly enjoyed this journey. Great film. Can't wait now to catch up with your back catalogue. Well done everyone for raising so much money for a great cause.👍

I canoed the same journey for my gold Duke of Edinburgh expidition a few years back. We stopped at the top of loch ness (was only a 4 day expedition). One of my favourite things that i've done.

This expedition and the Spey River look like bucket list treks. I live in the US state of Missouri where we “float” on a regular basis on the rivers of the Ozarks. It is beautiful, but nothing like the Lochs of Scotland.

Brilliant cinematography, mate. Your production is matched only by Smooth Gefixt in the Bushcraft scene, and I think you edge Julius out just a bit. You’ve inspired me to do more with what I’ve got on my channel. Thanks

I remember seeing this posted in my notifications, but life had me side lining it for a couple days while I did other things, and I forgot to go back to it... I stumbled across it from watching Simon's prep video as I am considering an Adirondack canoe trip this spring and am trying to build a gear list.
If was a magnificent documentary of the trip... I did cry a bit when you said Simon's canoe was damaged... it is such a lovely wooden canoe.

Such a sad sight to see the Eala Bhan rotting like that. My wife and I did the Caledonian on that boat in 2005, 3 months after we met. I'd recently paddled the coast to coast for the first time and the Captain on that boat (Iain) invited us on board for a BBQ at Gairlochy, where I grabbed their number and sorted a holiday on it when I got back. I've paddled the Great Glen several times and spent a solemn half hour paddling around and photographing the Eala Bhan when I last did it. Sad to see that someone has stolen the main nameplate. Great video, it's a lovely place and I do want to do it again so I can run the river.
