      @@GebahiArtworks Thank you for replying. Gebahi, can you share with me what brushes proved great performers using acrylic paint. I use both synthetic and hog bristle brushes, and I find the natural hair brush to work better than the synthetic, because the nylon hairs deform and tend to curl up or out after a while. I also would like to know what acrylic brand you use that does not skin over quickly while painting the way you do? I use a stay-wet palette to keep mine fresh for several days, but it is a hassle to use and store in the refrigerator between paintings. Thank you.

    • @GebahiArtworks
      @GebahiArtworks  29 днів тому

      @@AD-zy4qw yes, so the brushes I’m currently using are the Princeton Catalyst with black bristle, they are a synthetic blend and work really well for me!. As far as paint goes, my two top contenders are Golden and Liquitex, perhaps a bias towards liquitex professional heavy body acrylics! If you want longer working times then perhaps Golden Open acrylics will work for you. But I feel they are more transparent than the regular Golden Heavy body acrylics! By the way, you don’t need to put the staywet palette in the fridge! Just put a damp sponge in and close the lid. It’ll stay wet for over a week even outside at room temperature!

    • @GebahiArtworks
      @GebahiArtworks  29 днів тому

      @@AD-zy4qw I also use a misting bottle to spray over my paints a couple times during a session. But since I paint fast I hardly have to! But sometimes I do a spray over just to keep the moist! I have a video on how to keep your paints wet while painting if you look for it on my channel!

    It was so helpful to watch how you blend the acrylic paint so beautifully. When you work on a larger canvas do you have to adapt in some way since the paint dries so quickly?

    • @GebahiArtworks
      @GebahiArtworks  2 роки тому

      Thank you!! Good question, it’s a bit more involved, in this case, when working on a larger canvas, I use Golden Fluid acrylics. They spread easier and further, which makes it easier to blend as well. After the initial layer you can then use you heavy body acrylics for smaller and detailed areas of the painting!

      Hi Lucy, both are true! I try to keep the painting under an hour for tutorials. But on my day to day paintings I do paint small because it’s affordable in todays market climate and easier to ship to clients! I do paint larger paintings as well but not as much. Thank you Mary!! I use canvases from my local store, Michael’s! I used Golden heavy body acrylics for that painting. Colors were:
      Cad yellow medium, alizarin crimson, ultramarine blue, burnt umber, and titanium white. You can do a painting similar to mine using the same techniques as long as it’s not exactly the same, and then you can sign it and sell, I don’t have a problem!

    I'm a new painter, but in the past had no problem getting my paints to glide and blend. But I've tried this 3 times and can not get the sky to look anything like what you did. I'm using Windsor & Newton galleria paint and even went and bought new brushes. it looks like you use hardly any paint and yet it covers. If I use enough paint to cover the canvas I don't get the depth and I have to use a lot more paint than you used. My canvas is a 10x10. Any suggestions what I might be doing wrong?

    • @GebahiArtworks
      @GebahiArtworks  8 місяців тому +1

      Hi T, what changed from before? Did you change paint brands to Winsor and Newton? The only thing I do is control the amount of water on my brush, which is all I use when painting, and I’ve used many different brands. Did you use gesso on the canvas because I don’t, unless I’m painting on birch wood panels and have to seal the board! I know that W&N Galleria isn’t really a heavy body acrylic, so it should glide on easily. So from what I can think of, it must be the amount of water ! I always swish my brush in water and and damp it before I start the painting. I don’t attack the painting with a dry brush m, and as the paint starts to drag or get tacky I dip my brush in water again to get it a little more damp before I lay the next strokes wether it’s the same color or not! What that does is keep the paint hydrated at all times. So it’s more of a water control seems like to me. I sometimes edit out the swishing of my brush in water to save time on the editing but I always keep my brush damp to help move the paint! Otherwise you can always use a retarder or flow improver. Plus as you can see, I paint pretty fast and blend fast. I think the combo of the two techniques I use gives the illusion of the paint just gliding on the surface! As you look at my other videos you’ll see that. I hope that helps, otherwise let me know and I’ll help you further! Thank you for your support!!

      @@GebahiArtworks Thank you for your quick and thoughtful response. Maybe I should clarify when I say I'm a beginner. I went to a sip and paint class about a year ago. I brought my own inspiration image to paint and it turned out amazing. I now we were using acrylic paint on canvas, but not sure of the paint brand. I don't remember using water to apply the paint, but I do remember how easy it was to wrk with and how well it blended. I decided this was a craft I wanted to pursue, so I went and bought a bunch of supplies on a huge sale at Michaels. I guess because my first painting went so well I would just jump in with no skills other than I was a professional photographer for 25 years which helps in color, composition etc. I decided to jump in and tackle your beautiful painting for a friend's birthday present. So Duh, I wasn't using water in my brush LOL although my painting looks different from yours I am happy with how it is turning out since it' only my second painting. I obviously need to start with some basic training so I'm now watching a beginner class series on UA-cam. Thank you for inspiring me with your art and your kind response & tips. God bless you! Tess

      @@twoods3480 my pleasure, I’m glad you’re at least trying!! I think I know what they were using, I believe they craft paint, they are the only paint I can think of that can flow like that aside from fluid acrylics! But yes, a damp brush does wonders, and you can also buy a flow improved from Michael’s, as well as a retarder to give you more time to blend and mix!

      european royalty meaning when you put two colors next to each other other your eyes do the blending psychologically! If you were to look at this painting closely you would notice the edges are rough and not smoothly blended, but as you step back from the painting you get this impression that the colors were blended, when actually they were not! I just used slightly greyed down transition colors to give it that effect!
