Tip!!!
Try to (slightly) loosen your truss rod first before putting anything under the nut. Also raise the bridge. 90% of the time loosening the truss rod will give you enough gap at frets 1-7 for slide and raising the bridge will gap 7-remaining frets for slide. If you do this first and still don’t have enough, then raise the nut.,
super and clear explanation. you are not only the slide guy , you are also a very nice guy - many thanks from Germany
Nice. To the point, fast and no messing about. Subscribed.
Great lesson. I did this setup tonight on my les paul and its perfect for the way I play. Thanks very much
Jerry set me up with this idea for my Gretsch Ampli-Sonic and it has never played better. Thanks Slide Guy...
The pleasure was mine, Craig. Slide on, brother!
Some damn good playing, and tone! Seriously your playing stands out from other youtube instructers
Don Ramsburg thank you! I am getting this channel going again after a too-long hiatus. I hope to see you here again.
Your videos are awesome Jerry looking forward to more videos Ive mostly used open E and standard tuning for slide..I’m now playing Open G exclusively and would love more ideas and licks Cheers from Myrtle Beach South Carolina😊😊
Currently trying to set up an Epiphone Wilshire P90 for slide, and this video was a massive help. Thank you. :)
I have a soft spot for the Wilshires. Cool guitars, especially with p90
HEY JERRY, Very Helpful to me since I am going to set up one of my guitars for slide.
Great info! love your playing 👍
Thank you, Sir. Appreciate you stopping by. Slide on!
Love how to the point this was
So if I had 11s on my guitar what MM should the action be at the 12th fret maybe 3mm or 2.5? Thank you so much as your slide guitar playing is great.
What gauge would you recommend for open d?? I know I need heavier gauge but I have a Epiphone Les Paul special I, 24.75 (shorter scale) than my Ibanez. And I have a singular wraparound bridge, idk how to keep it raised.
That is some great slide playing man!
Can you give us some basic measurements? How high off the 1st & 12th fret do you consider a starting point?
I just got those same M Audio monitors and they buzz like hell!
Sounds like you have a grounding issue.
Just found your channel and subbed !!!! Great stuff man. A couple of years ago I picked up a used black SG just like your using in this vid and it plays great for slide. I have recently acquired about 4 more used guitars and they play descent for slide but I need to get them set up better. On my good SG I have some 10/46 gauge strings and I was wonder how you like the Ernie Ball strings for slide playing ?
On the 12/56 gauge strings, are they still pretty easy to bend ?
For next Winter I'm planning to get a new Epiphone SG 400 worn Cherry.
How do I glue the nut in place? What type of glue? Where should I clamp it? I have so many questions lol
I'll be seeing your channel more often dude...your playing is fuckin EPIC!!...sorta like Sonny Landreth...anyways cheers from Down Under😊
I am going to buy a Gretch alligator resonator and i was wondering if I should use med or heavy acoustic or electric guitar strings on it? great video, thank you.
You are awesome man, can u tell me what pedals to use for slide guitar? Thanks
Mariano Urban-Wagner howdy. Thanks for the kind words.
I use a Wampler Paisley Drive. Sometimes I'll put a Wampler Ego compressor in front of that for some slide sustain. A wah can be a kick in the pants as well with slide. Very vocal sounding.
Sweet playing Slide Guy,,Are you tuned to open G???
What do you think about flatwound strings for slide guitar?
got ask about the tats, BC west coast?
Hi Slide guy! Thanks for the credit card tip. I was left with one question though: Once you remove the nut, do you just place the credit card plastic un the slot and place the nut on top of it? do you recommend using glue in this process? Do you glue the plastic to the guitar and then glue the nut to the plastic? Thanks for your help!!
That's exactly my question too. Did you figure it out?
Great video and great playing. New sub here. Thinking of setting my old strat copy up like this, but really jacking the action so that I can copy a pedal steel sound. Do I need to worry about the neck bending because of the tension of heavier strings/ higher action / open tuning?
Will Scott thanks for the comment! I've had a strat like that. Super fun to play. I'd say maybe half turn clockwise with the heavier strings. Maybe double the shims under the nut. Get you a tone bar and go for it! 🤘🏾
so...how high off the fret board? 1/8" ? 1/2"?
Depends if you want to also fret notes or only use a slide, and personal preference.
3-4mm
Why do so many slide players use an SG?
Da Guvna Because with the SG, the 12th fret is set away from the body farther than most other guitars. This allows more access to the higher frets.
Utter bullshit this guy only has 211 subs. Come on peeps, get the word out.
Bull I've please slide for 40 plus yrs that shit don't mean no
What about playing slide on flatwounds? Any thoughts?
