After 12 years and still owning 6 Fujifilm bodies I've only just begun looking at the Q Menu. I tried on my own and got stuck. Your post helped me master it. I can't thank you enough. I've subscribed.
At long last, some easy to follow and direct instructions. Thank you. I just purchased a X Pro 3 yesterday and was trying to work out how to add recipes in. You did good!
*WB is the only option that does not save to the custom setting.* When you adjust the +/- R and +/- B in the WB, that will be kept. For example, you use the Daylight and +2R -3B for the 1st recipe, and the 2nd recipe needs that Daylight but -3R +5B. Now the old R and B value Daylight in 1st will be overwritten. When you dial into the 1st recipe in the Q menu, it still shows the WB = Daylight, but the R and B value is the value of the 2nd recipe. * In other words, R and B are independent values and need to be re-adjusted every time you switch between recipes with a similar WB value.* Same with K value or default WB preset. I tested with XT30. I don't know about newer firmware because XT30 is no longer software-supported by Fuji.
Thanks this was a huge help. I picked up an xpro 3 and found these custom settings really confusing, especially on how to save and where to save them, etc. Makes sense about leaving #1 as standard so you can always go back to shoot regular factory photos if you like. That’s especially one thing I couldn’t figure out how worked because when I changed the numbers in the settings…it kept those same numbers even if I changed filtered, which I didn’t want. So your explanation about switching to a #1 custom setting that’s factory made all the difference on the world. Thanks for that!
Thanks for the video. It's very self-explanatory, and you went step by step well. So there are only 7 custom setting limations today on fuji cameras? Thank you.
Useful info, Scott. Double screen effect works well.👍 Good caution about clarity and C1 default tip. Some items in custom setting group can also be assigned to a quick menu slot or function button, as an override of recipe element. Can be confusing until you get used to it. Haven’t yet heard any negatives about recent firmware update- have you?
Good video but you forgot to mention that the white balance shift (offset) doesn’t change when you switch between recipes on older fuji fujifilm cameras. I’ve heard that newer fuji cameras such as the xt3 don’t have this issue, however i haven’t tested it myself. Since the recipes rely heavily on WB and WB shift settings, it really is a pain to have to manually adjust the wb shift every time when a different recipe is loaded. Fix this issue fuji!!
Hi... And, on older models, Xtrans II for me, what would it do when you come back to the "Base" Mode after coming from a Cfn WB modified Recipe mode ? Does it keep the last C function modified white balance here too, when back on "Base", or does it reset to the Base WB default ? Thank you for any insight...
Great video. Is it possible to assign recipe names in the xtrans3 processor? I have an x100f, and I can't find where I can name my custom recipe(s). Thanks!

Or do these C functions only work if you are in Jpeg only, but not Jpeg+Raw ? Thank you for any insight...

I agree with you 100%. Fuji should implement some sort of film simulation manager where you can add your custom simulations to the list of factory ones. This would allow them to be used in any mode and not waste custom modes on the dial.

Thanks for the video! Very handy. Question - do the custom settings save over the Fujifilm film simulation? For example: say you have a recipe that uses Velvia as the base. Would the custom replace the Velvia settings that came with the camera?
@@ScottDawson this is not happening for me. My OG fuji simulations are staying as the customized recipes even after following this guide. Hi Scott - thanks for this video and all your others, which are well presented and easy to follow. I have a couple of question s about the custom recipes and RAW files. My XT-4 is set to capture RAW and JPEGs to their own card, and when I select a custom recipe, the settings are applied to the RAW files as well as the JPEG (I have checked this by taking shots of the same subject, using a default setting in C1 as you suggest, and then opening the two RAW files in Affinity Photo, my image editor). Is this correct behaviour? Is there a setting that will allow the RAW files to be captured without the settings while applying the recipe to the JPEGs? Many thanks again.
Very useful info,Scott. Just a quick question: most recipe lists ISO as auto upto certain level , for example say 1600. Since maximum ISO you can get in auto mode depends on ISO Auto Settting, how do I switch between ISO Auto Setting and most importantly remember maximum ISO of a recipe.
This video is not seen enough, and I think many Fuji users would love to know it exists... Hi again, one last question... You mention you use C1 as standard shooting setting. But isn't that the Mode it's already On by Default on the Camera "Base" Mode ? Or do you do that because, when you're on "Base" Mode, you have adjusted settings for the moment, making changes in your "Base" Mode settings, and rather than changing it, you just want a full, by default settings, you could access fast at any time ? Thank you for any insight...
amazing video scott! question, is it also applicable in x-e4? i mean does x-e4 have up to 7 customizable simulation recipe to save like the x100v? the answer to this might be the breaker whether which camera i would buy (x-e4 or s100v). Hope you could help! 😄
How do I then use this custom recipe? I set it in the "Q" menu, but nothing changes. There is no option to use custom recipes that I can find, only scrolling through the recipes that came with the camera. Thanks for the great info,

Then I create a new recipe that also uses the auto white balance preset it won’t show up as R0 B0, instead it will show R+1 B-5. It’s like the white balance setting has been changed for the whole camera rather than just for that recipe. Is there anyway to stop this from happening? Thanks.

I think Fuji switched things up with that model. You should be able to adjust settings in - IMAGE QUALITY SETTING > EDIT/SAVE CUSTOM SETTING. I don't have that model though so if that doesn't work you'll need to check your manual. Thanks for watching!
Unfortunately that is the downsize no one tells you about. If you change the WB and /or color shift, it affects the other film simulations too. Even the original film simulations that comes with the camera. It happens on my X100V and on my X-T4. So if you install a simulation based on the simulation Velvia and adjust the WB and color shift, it affects the original Velvia too. You than have to override your setting when you want to use the original Velvia.

I am trying to do it on my x pro 2 but can't see how to customize white balance...
How do you scroll to get to different recipes? New to Fuji so it’s confusing
I know my question sounds silly but is there anyway to mimic Fujiflim simulations for other camera brands?
There might be but you'd have to do some searching on Google. I only use Fuji cameras. Thanks for watching!
Hey scott, i have an xt200 and there is no Q button to save my custom settinf
Great video but it doesnt address using Film Recipes in Video Mode... I just cant select the various recipes I have saved in my X-H1... when I am in photo mode no worries, I can hit the Q button and select with the rear command but in Video mode, all I see is my Custom settings (C2 to C7 with the word BASE written on top) and the settings are all wrong and I cant move between Custom settings (C1 to C7) with the rear command dial as I would in Photo mode... can you pls shed some light on this behaviour? many thanks!
Photo Mode settings are separate from Video. If you wanted to adjust the Video settings you need to do that while in video mode the Custom Settings don't apply to both. Thanks for watching!
@@ScottDawson Well, maybe you're not familiarised with the X-H1 (Trans III seonsor),... so I am in video mode, I press Q, and play with all the parameters, then I cannot save them because the IQ menu > Edit/Save Custom Setting is not available under VIDEO mode... so I cannot seem to be able to save any Customs for video... maybe I am dumb?
@@portcorner_noise Sorry don't have any experience with that camera. I have an XT4 & X100v.
I didn't exactly what you did but my camera ,fuji xe3, doesn't save my custom film simulation. Why?
To old
@@markogrubisic no it's not, the camera has this function, it was me who didn't know how to do it🙂, now I know
When I press the Q button on my Fuji X-Pro2, I see an icon that indicates that the Q menu is locked.
How do I unlock it?
By saving new recipes does it overwrite the factory default film sims? Thanks.
Nope
@@ScottDawson thanks!
@@ScottDawsonso if I make my custom 2 for example Kodachrome 1 settings which is based on classic chrome does it keep classic chrome in the cameras in built settings and I then effectively copy and paste those settings as a base to alter in my custom setting? Does that make sense? I’ve been trying to work out how to use recipes for a while and just found you video. It’s clear and helpful in how to alter but I just wasn’t sure and didn’t want to mess up settings. I bought my camera used and bought it was default however when I went into custom settings they are named so the camera wasn’t wiped presumably?
For some reason I do not get the same drop down menu when I press menu/ok in the q menu. I am shooting w an xt1 and it’s firmwear needs to be updated as of like 2022. Not sure if that’s helpful info but it’s driving me NUTS. Thanks to anyone who can help.
I have a fear that in saving custom simulations, I might accidentally alter the default simulations. Is that possible? And if it is possible, will resetting the camera to factory defaults restore the default simulations back to original factory settings?
yes manythanks from THAILAND >>Q on the c7 recipe I HEARD U CAN TWEET ITS RECIPES FOR THAT PERTICULAR SHOT IS THAT WHY ON THE Q MENU U HAVE TWO RECIPE 7 ?? DONOT UNDERSTAND??
Thank you Scott, that's a very clear and concise explanation. Just one question to confirm my understanding. If I leave the C1 Base quick menu slot at factory settings, will I be able to access all of the built in Fuji film emulations from this slot, even if I've programmed C2-C7 with recipes? I'm sure they'll be plenty of times that I want to use the built in Fuji film emulations as well as the custom recipes. Thanks in advance.
Exactly right. Just leave C1 as factory setting and you can then switch to factory simulations easily. Thanks for watching!
@@ScottDawson Thanks Scott, I'll give it a try!
this is driving me nuts, I've followed 3 tutorials side by side and it does not save, when i adjusted my values and click on which custom slot i want it to save to, it just defaults back. i have a xt3
I’m having that same issue but I’m the x100f
@@Justen781 my issue was that after the camera asking me to save, i thought i had highlighted over save but i was highlighting over cancel again and again not realising. hope that may help
My camera doesnt have the color chrome fx blue option in my menus and i cannot change the size of the grain. Is there something wrong with my camera?
Some models don't have it.
Hey i do Not have all thos Setting in my X-T 30 II
X-T5 seems to have a different way of saving it, just with the back button.
I dont have the "select custom setting" option in my camera. How to use the saved custom simulations?
Which camera?
@@ScottDawson xs10
I think Fuji switched things up with that model. You should be able to adjust settings in - IMAGE QUALITY SETTING > EDIT/SAVE CUSTOM SETTING.
I don't have that model though so if that doesn't work you'll need to check your manual. Thanks for watching!
@@ScottDawson okay thank you!
For some reason my white balance becomes the same on all my saved presets.. Any solution to this?
Unfortunately that is the downsize no one tells you about. If you change the WB and /or color shift, it affects the other film simulations too. Even the original film simulations that comes with the camera. It happens on my X100V and on my X-T4. So if you install a simulation based on the simulation Velvia and adjust the WB and color shift, it affects the original Velvia too. You than have to override your setting when you want to use the original Velvia.
This is what im looking for
Can I use these recipies for XT 200?
Yes!
@@ScottDawson thanks sir
hi does this work for the xa5? i’m not able to spot these settings
Sorry don't have that camera.
why my whiteblance is copying the last recipe's white balance?
Really helpful, thanks
Seemingly can't be achieved with an X-E2 model. Not able to save custom white balance values; e.g., stuck with default R:0 B:0
can you save custom names on the x100f?
Should be able to.
