I’m SOO glad I made it to your channel! Not to mention, what it took for me to end up here.. I had a common problem with just about all the tutorials I attempted to watch. They were either not detailed enough on the basic interactions or they were way too fast and not descriptive enough. Being a first time owner of such a camera, I will say those tutorials started making me scared to play around with my camera lol THEREFORE YOUR WAY OF PROVIDING US NEWBIES WITH SUCH AN INCREDIBLE, DETAILED & THOROUGHLY INFORMATIVE TUTORIAL WAS SIMPLY PERFECT & I AM VERY GRATEFUL! I also didn’t need to pause your video for any reason, I was able to keep up & follow right along step by step. THANK YOUUUUUUU!
I bought a Fujifilm myself after I watched your original film simulation video. Honestly, I can see this channel blowing up. Keep up the good work mate :').
You're video is really easy to understand and I love that you keep it brief but informative. I just bought a fuji cam and I'm trying to learn how the film simulation works. Awesome job!
Thank you for explaining the film sim concept so clearly. I've even saved the graph and the blues images on my phone as a reminder to help me choose. Bravo!
I just ordered a Fujifilm camera and now I'm super hyped. Didn't even know this was all possible. Thanks for your video and clear explanation. Can't wait to shoot some photos. 🤗
Excellent video...you have eased my angst of not having all the latest film simulations of newer Fuji camera models!!! I have an X30 and can hardly wait to give this program a try. A+++++++
this is my first commenting on a youtube video! I am a newbie to digital photography, and this video is super helpful! thank you for great explanation of film simulations and editing
Just found your channel this morning, and you have a new subscriber! I love your style, my friend! I've been trying to learn my new (to me) X100s (got it last week), and you have been more helpful in 2 videos than dozens of others I've tried. The others weren't bad, and I might go to them for other things; it's just that your particular approach *clicked* for me on this topic. The way you took the time to present this so thoroughly made things clear to me that weren't clear to me before. Thank you for your unique voice! It's important to the world. Be encouraged and keep going!! "Keep looking around!"
I have to say, I have a soft, marshmallow spot for Sepia, my personal take is that it creates magic with sombre scenes that are essentially littered with white objects, something for example, like an array of white Roman statues in dim light is perfect!
Just got a x100vi. I didn’t like it at first. I usually shoot Sony. But I am coming to appreciate what all the hype is. As a digital camera it just doesn’t compare to Sony. But thinking of it more as a film camera and it opens a whole new world that Sony can’t compete. Thanks for the video. I learned a lot. Sub.
OMG, what a way to explain complex topics in an understandable manner. I finally have an understanding of the goal of each film simulation mode. Thank you, thank you, thank you :)
Wow! I've just found this on UA-cam and it's by far the best explanation of the film simulations that I've seen. Sorry I'm late to the party 😁 Part 1 was great and ti's one taught me so much. I have an old laptop and couldn't afford an upgrade, so I'm going to give X-Raw a go. I never knew how his worked, so thanks for explaining. I'm off to watch Part 3 and have subscribed. Keep up the great work 🙂👍
This is really cool! I like the Fujifilm X Raw Studio, which I had forgotten it was there. A great way to edit and learn about Film Simulations at the same time. Thanks, Jay!
If you want to see the affects of film sims just take any Fuji RAW file into X Raw Studio and play with it. X Raw Studio is the only way to get the exact film sims out of the Raw as the in camera jpgs. Because it uses the camera processing.
Yeh I find this to be true. Although capture one does a pretty good job at replicating the film sims. It just doesn't have the linearity in terms of adjustment settings that X Raw studio has
@@JayRegular I don't know. I' ve find Capture One frustrating, it can take me as much as an hour to get a decent image, yet I've yet to really be happy with any of them. But, I'm sure it's me not Capture One. It seems to me, back in the day (early 2000s) the workflow was much more up front and easier to get great results. I had about a ten year layoff from photography, a lot has changed. I got into photography, for photography not for editing. Why can't they design a sensor that capture descent (raw) images? Frankly, raw images from the XT 3 look like crap and take too much work to make them not look like crap. sorry... /rant
@@CrispyOkra you're not wrong. I find that the more adjustment options I have, the more doubts i have on whether or not my edits are actually that good, whereas with X Raw studio it's the limitations that assures me that I've done the best I could 😁
Such great content. I recently started using a Tri-X 400 recipe that I found on the internet, and quickly became really obsessed with shooting in jpegs only
@@JayRegular Almost! But I think I actually enjoy it that much more than film because of how fuji implements these simulations and their respective recipes, making fuji an all-in-one tool of the decade without any of the film expense added on top. Analog photography definitely has its place though !
Great video love the film simulations got my XT3 and x100v loaded with recipes from Fuji X weekly so much better than sitting in front of a computer editing for hours
A very useful comparison, thank you. What is a good alternative to XRaw Studio, as it appears it is not supported any more; or at least when I try to run it, most of the features are not present. If you could recommend other software that will let you work from a RAW file to add a film simulation, that would be appreciated. Thanks
Thanks for the instructions on X Raw Studio. Question when you have your X100V connected to the computer and running the app does your camera make any noise? Mine has a mild hum/hiss sound when connected and using the app.
Wow, that last shot.... Can you save the settings of the last shot into the camera as a profile? You edited quite a lot so I have some doubts, but damn... this is all I was looking for... I'm all for less editing and more shooting.... If this can save such complex settings as profiles... then I might be able to save 100s on this. This is really awesome. Love the down to earth explanations of your videos. Just ordered an x100v and cannot wait to follow in your footsteps. Awesome channel, especially for beginners! Thanks a lot!!
The whole point of using Fuji X Raw studio is to be able to use an existing RAW file from your Fuji camera, and apply the same settings as you would in camera, but on the computer so you can see the effects of the changes as you go. Once you are happy with the edit you just need to go back into your Fuji camera and make a custom profile with the same settings as the one on X Raw studio and that would apply the same look to all your future JPEG images straight out of camera.
Website? Those comparisons and recipes are my own. If you mean the software I used to edit the photos, you can find it in the description box. I included the link there
Man I just dropped a POV video and I edited the photos in Lightroom. Wish I would have seen this video before I made that video hahaha. I will definitely be using X RAW Studio next time. Thanks for the helpful information!! Much appreciated.
I hope I didn't put you off using lightroom Rob! 😬 I still mostly use my third party photo editing software to edit most of my pictures. But X Raw studio is great for coming up with film simulation recipes to add to the camera's custom profiles 👍
JayRegular haha naw you didn’t Jay, I shoot film sometimes and I love not having to edit the photos if I don’t have to. So now knowing how to create my own film simulation recipe makes the process easier. 🙏🏾

NICE. Thanks for the shoutout - I appreciate seeing those blues! I totally agree about the Classic Chrome sim - I love how it renders blue more as cyan, almost teal. It's beautiful. Seeing them all compared tho, I might start leaning toward Classic Negative, with some tweaks.
Hi Jay, thanks for the simplified comparison. I am using X-T20. Is film simulation, say Velvia, in X-T20 the same as in other Fujifilm camera bodies? Although color in photo is art and taste, I beleieve the bottom line is the capability to reproduce the color that our naked eye experienced at the very moment when we trigger the camera shutter. On top of that we can apply film simulation for visual effects. It is not easy as it sounds. In your comparison of "BLUE" sky, which color is the sky that our naked eyes saw? There will be slight difference between every generation of fujifilm sensors and processors, but I think for most people the differences will be hard to notice unless you are really scrutinous about color. In terms of which simulation for the blue sky felt the most true to life? I would say the pro negative standard. Which one felt more like how I 'feel' the sky was with my eyes? probably Provia
Hi, great video. On X-T3 "Classic Neg." Is not present. Is there a way to have this profile by changing something on other simulation films ? Obviously I talk about obtain the same effect of Classic Neg directly in camera. Thanks in advance. Best regards. Alessandro.
For trying to replicate this film simulation, visit fujixweekly website, I'm sure they have a recipe that can get close to classic neg by using classic chrome as a base
