Very good honest summary of a very honest vehicle, I have Jan 2012 Dmax LSU manual, I have towed a 21.6 Jayco van on 42 Trips, 150klm tow miles, 8 Trips of the Nullarbor, Tassie, Cairns Darwin, Alice Springs and everywhere in between, all of the Murray River freecamping, The vehicle has done a Total of 240,000klm, never “ Bush Bashed “. Just bought it to tow the van, It’s done the top of the Gibb River, crossed the Pentecost for the photo shoot, but that’s it, never walked home, nothing has gone wrong, gets 8.5 Lph around town, Consistently done 13.8 Lph towing at 90klm per hour, never thrashed, The 4jj engine has a B10 truck rating, Isuzu advise at 500,000klm, 10% will require overhaul, best car I have owned, but never thrashed. Keep up the good work, regards Tony
That’s a great run from it Tony! You get back what you put into a car I reckon- and if you keep looking after it like you obviously are, I’m sure it’ll see a trouble free 500,000kms!
I love how honest you are about your car and experiences. Great info about car setup and your experience towing in a dual cab Ute. I’m already enjoying your Landcruiser build and excited to see you use it after all your modifications. I follow a few people touring Australia on UA-cam, but I have to say I am really enjoying your content. Keep it coming, it’s great!
Hi Cam, I love your channel and your honest and practical content. We’ve communicated previously about my V6 Ranger and I reckon your selection process and rationale you applied to the LC300 decision was spot on… can’t wait for the build vids.
Well done Cam, I’m going to miss the old girl. Watching your vids over the years back in the Forbes days was a huge influence on our family to go down the Dmax and MDC line. Thanks heaps for the brutally honest reviews and tips. Can’t wait to watch the next chapters of the mighty 300. Keep safe bud, hope to bump into you one day, out on our adventures 🤘
I've got a 2016 D-Max as well. Cracked inner guard replaced by isuzu. Evaporator cracked this year as well $1200. Torque converter got damaged too by not having an aftermarket cooler. Had that replaced and 5 of 7 solenoid shifters. $5k transmission bill. Running fine now and will keep it.
Yep definitely agree with your video mate, I sold my 2018 Dmax & eventually bought a 2015 Dmax. Only draw back to 2015 model, is it's not a silky smooth with automatic gear changes to say the 6spd auto. Thanks for sharing your thoughts mate
Hey Cam, it's hard letting go of the canopy set up, we did the same with our old hilux. In saying that, you'll bloody love the 300 series. We're looking forward to seeing your build. Cheers Troy & Laura JU
My 2 fav tubers both have a 300 like us 💪🏼 we’re finally hitting the road after a lot of planning on Monday, can’t wait. Sry no YT channel lol we’re too introverted prefer to watch genuine channels like you guys…see ya out there 🤙
Hi Cam - well done mate. Always look forward to your vids with both the family and the boys trip (and your others just chatting). Looking forward to the build vids and see what you end up doing.
We really enjoy your videos, and this one didn't disappoint. Great video mate, thank you for sharing, and we look forward to watching the next chapter.
Wow time flys you talk about the mods you did and the year you did them and i remember watching it but bloody hell didnt think it was that long ago cant wait for the next chapter mate 🍺
Good to hear you've had a good Seven years from the Dmax, I love my Isuzu, like you have added quality mods and look after it between services. Hope the Land Cruiser gives as much enjoyment.
All good things must come to an end. We have a 2015 DMax that has served us well! However, we have had to upgrade as our van is too heavy for the maxxy. We ended up going for the Y62 Patrol. I look forward to watching the new rig build-up. I basically started following you because you guys had a DMax Lol! 🎉
100% DC utes are a compromise that cannot do "it all" without the right mods. We tow with a Triton, new shocks/springs and a rear swaybar made a huge difference. Night and day. Really Interested to hear that the brake conversion made a big difference.
So happy for you Cam, so true and down to earth mate, you are a very honest straight up guy, well done and bet you are so excited for the new adventure, so glad you are not doing sum cracked up game changing, click bait garbage you tube is full of.
Hello Cam love your honesty and from when we met you at Denham last year and you offered us your camp spot at Bottle Bay you are a legend. My wife still can't thank you enough for the camp spot Love our MUX and like you Isuzu make an honest no bullshit vehicle that we can modify to fit our purpose Enjoy the new vehicle and adventures with your family
Great recap cam, however we qll know your gonna miss it for lads weekends. Would love to see you do a budget build in the future as a second car and send it everywhere with the lads
Nice summary. That brake upgrade has me thinking it would be a worthwhile upgrade on any vehicle used for towing. Re your commentary on insurance - was the cracked inner guard covered by insurance, given the vehicles GVM upgrade. Good luck with the 300 - I reckon it will be awesome for you. It’s luggage space will be the compromise, everything else about it will be better than the DMax Cheers
I also sold my Dmax this week, 100% it got the best clean of its life including a proper polish and I had the same thoughts 😂 I had the same journey swag > tent > camper > van and the Dmax is just a little undersized for family van life. I hope you can get the new car in that time frame, my new car has been in the country since the end of August but waiting on parts for gvm etc means I am getting it next week - then the rest of the build starts 😂
Yeah I may have the same issues, I thought getting the car would be the longest wait. But some parts have very long lead times! May just be a case of fitting what I can now, and others bits later on. Luckily the suspension parts are not a problem, they’re the only time sensitive bits (to do it pre rego)! What did you buy?
It was the arb bullbar mounting bracket and getting a slot to fit the pre rego GVM that caused the delay for me, mostly the bracket actually. You will have to subscribe and watch for the grand reveal on what I got Cam 😂😂 All I will say is that it was a vehicle on your spreadsheet and it’s a Ute if that narrows it down. Bit of a direction change for my channel away from fishing and diving while I do a few DIY fit outs to set up the new car
You're spot on about everything being a compromise. I went from an 08 hilux to a 98 gu patrol for solid axles. And man, the weight adds up quick in a wagon with the extra bar work and a lower gvm. Having owned it for a few years now, it's crazy the amount of wagons I see on the road that would surely be way over gvm If ever I get a new car, it would be a dual cab again and the payload will be why.
Yeah you’re not wrong, weight adds up real quick! Wagon payloads are definitely limiting without GVM upgrades. But with a GVM upgrade on the 300 I’ll actually have more payload than the Dmax has!
My patrol got yellow stickered not long after I bought it so I had no time to get a gvm upgrade, I had to replace the suspension with whatever I could get unfortunately. Maybe one day I'll go that route but I'll probably get something newer tbh That's impressive man, even though the car is more expensive, the fact you're not having to invest in a tray and canopy too is a bonus, would be super comfy to drive on long trips too. I'm keen to see what you've got planned, you must be pretty excited to get the keys I bet aha
Just chop the 300 and add a canopy. Solves your problems in regards to carrying your boat, along with retaining the ability to live out of a canopy as well
@@SUPERTRUCKER166 Yeah I'm aware of the prices for a lot of these things so spending 250k isn't that hard once it's all said and done? @@SUPERTRUCKER166 Yep. With a young family it's a much harder to do it on the cheap but I guess my thoughts are that so many people seem to be spending a fortune "getting away from it all" by taking all the comforts of home with them and going to the same places everyone else is going as well. I saw a video the other day where they were doing the Simpson and passed 30 cars going the opposite way per day and there would likely have been as many going the same way they were as well. Well done on the 300 mate, from what I've heard the fuel economy won't be much different to what your getting now. Gone are the days when we all added absolutely everything to a car (probably mainly for "look at me" value) technology has made some things better - can do a lot more with a lot less these days - especially if you can do the complete build all at once, or work to a very strict process - looking forward to seeing the new bus unveiled mate 👍
Besides the upgrades that were necessary, you've done some really cool things with this truck. Mainly kegorator, boat and boat motor mounts, and the induction cooker. How much, if any of these, are you going to let go with the sale? Or, are you just going to strip it all and sell it naked? One owner. Only driven to church on weekends. Church being the outback😂😉
I sold the car with the canopy completely kitted out, minus the all the boat gear. Managed to sell the boat gear to a travelling family who were chasing the same setup luckily! So it’s all gone now!
@WildTouring Sad to see all of it go. But, knowing you guys, you're in it to win it😉 I'm sure the 300 will be just what you need when you get it where you want it to be. Cheers Cam!
I’ll be there with Off-road Living again, but nah the car won’t be there unfortunately. Won’t get it done in time, should be good for the caravan show though!
