Just saw Gubby’s car on 4WD 24/7 beers in the shed. It deserved the win! Congratulations to both Gubby and yourself 🎉 thanks for this episode. Although it’s great for us to see the trip as is, we appreciate how heartbreaking it was for Gubby. You’re a true mate. Our heart goes out to him but hope to see him in future trips enjoying himself. 😊
Cam, you’re a great mate, Gubby and your fellow travellers are really lucky to have a mate like you. Level headed and respectful and this showed in this video, one of the best videos yet for a number of reasons but esp the maté ship angle. Yep, like the change it up channel growth, F2F episodes, longer trips, family holidays and quality honest feedback on products. Keep it up.
Thanks for the update. So happy to hear Gubby got all the help he needed ❤. Would have been reaching into our pockets otherwise to help out. Good luck Gubby with the fix up and we hope to see you again soon getting up to no good!😊
Sticking by your mate is what it's all about. Thank you for not filming Gubby's grief. There's enough faux gravitas on UA-cam without trying to cash in on your mate's unlucky circumstances. Classy Cam. Respect. Great episode. 👍
Did the simmo solo beginning of September on the way back from the flinders ranges. East to West travelling home to Perth. I was the only person at Poppels corner, not much traffic, considered myself fortunate. Sand flag, 2x spring washers, one at the base, and one at the joint. No issues on the crossing. Enjoyable series, including this recap.
Great ep Cam, really enjoyed this series. With the code on the 300, it doesn't set the mind at ease how reliant these cars are becoming on technology - especially out bush. Imagine it was a code you couldn't clear, and it happened in the middle of the Simpson... With all these 48v hybrid 4wd coming out, and the tendency for manufacturers to become more reliant on this type of technology, it won't be long before cars will be getting stuck for things they can't fix out bush.
Great news to hear about Gubby. Interesting stuff about the rest of the trip. Yeah Madigan Line is a definite one to do. We never saw a soul. Especially as its one way to the Hay River. You did 2000km extra in the same time we did. That's alot of long days on the road. But we threw in Kings Canyon on the way to Finke, and some side tracks on the GCR. Again it was a great trip series. Fraser Island is on the bucket list. Hope the Dmax will get me there..🤣🤣 It's running like a dream... Cheers Mark..
Thanks Cam. Great reprise. Feel a bit special seeing so much behind the scenes stuff. Really glad to hear of Gubby's outcome. I think every one of your regulars really felt for him. Good luck to all you guys!
Thanks for the update Cam, looked like an awesome trip, chin up gubb you’ve got some great mate there, get back on your horse and head out mate….. safe travels to you all 🍺🍺
Another great episode. Love the variety of the content for the channel. Recaps, trips, reviews and the other trips like the upcoming Japan trip would be amazing to see: thanks for sharing.
The point about him no longer having faith in the vehicle can’t be overlooked for me. I had a BT50 a few years back that had major engine issues and even when it was fixed and running fine again I could never shake that feeling in the back of my mind that it would let me down again.
Yeah I hear you. I’ve been like that with a vehicle. I had a hzj105 that I had mechanical issues with every trip, I spent over 10k on the motor but still didn’t trust it.
Great video and explanations , thanks Cam . In regard to dash cams , we have 1 in our 4wd that tows the van and does around Perth stuff and I have 1 in my small suv around Perth and oh how valuable they have been both in the bush and around the city . At present in Qld and have picked up some amazing bad driving on the 4wd while towing a van . My grandkids Knick named mine , Bob .
I also felt the absence of adventure on account of the number of vehicles. That's why we have the madigan line. That's next on the list after an east west crossing. Glad all worked out well for Gubby. Thanks for sharing
Thanks for the recap Cam, good to fill in some gaps and pleased to hear things turned out ok for Gabby. I can understand and appreciate how the incident put a damper on the trip. Looking forward to your overview on the 300 series and your trip to Japan, my favourite country, been 9 times over the years. Stay safe and have a great week. Cheers from NZ
Great video mate. Some super interesting detail in there. I think the recovery was 100% the best option. People are getting desensitised to 4WD247 craziness. Looking forward to the car review
9,500 kms in 3 weeks, far out !, what a trip , I've done 35,000 kms in 13 months , great to hear the outcome with Gubby and that his mates helped him out, Great Video Cam,
You went to the Simpson in a La Niña year, heaps of rain. In normal times it’s not like that. Tourism with multiple people is ruining most outback travel. If you can do the trip, you can afford the fuel.
Cars are replaceable and repairable whereas lives aren't and no lives were lost during this series.....only egos!!! 😊 Was a great series mate 👍 And some good laughs 😂
Some of the videos of people lined up on the side of every crossing in Cape York freaks me out haha. Still so keen to do it though! I think we’re pretty spoilt on the west coast for the ability to find solitude!
Loved the wrap up thank you, it answered a lot of questions. I don't see how any bush fix to Gubby's car would have made it back to Birdsville. The recovery was the right choice. I did the Simpson East to West about 2 weeks after you guys and your footage really brought back memories and a feeling of how lucky I was not to have any major mechanical issues.
Fantastic wrap up n great to hear about Gubby. Unfortunately youtubers and Covid have opened up the country and somehow made it less remote. Keep up the awesome work
What you didn't explain is why it happened, parts failure, incorrect installation, exceeding what would be considered normal wear and tear, not fit for use? That doesn't look like it is a normal part that would break under normal driving conditions.
@@thebob3712 I’d only be speculating, I really can’t say for sure why it failed. It certainly isn’t fair ware and tare, it was a 6 week old (aftermarket) part. I do know that the car was under GVM and axle load limits (Gubby weighed it prior to the trip), and it was driven to conditions with mechanical sympathy (we were averaged 17kmph that day with tyres at 15psi). I’d have loved to take the broken UCA to someone with some metallurgy expertise to have a look at it, but the mechanic in Birdsville binned the part unfortunately. I know extended ball joints and longer springs on standard length UCAs is not best practice. It could be a factor. But I’d only be guessing 🤷♂️
We went to Christmas Island and also added Cocos Keeling Islands after watching your video - loved our trip - your video definitely inspired us so we'll watch out for the Japan videos
Great video as always cam. Although I’m definitely sure old mate was shattered at the time (and still is) the incidents bring out the best in people which is genuinely humbling.
Even when you don't drive off road, serious break downs are bloody expensive. We bought our old Coaster for $24k and keeping it going, and I'm talking about unforseen repairs, towing, engine rebuilds etc. have come to around $34k ($42k with servicing and normal maintenance). When these things happen it is very difficult and quite depressing but living the dream means having to fork out the money and smile next time you have a good trip. In the end, it is all worth it.
Great video, thanks Cam. The Toyota dash cam activates on movement, so every time I walk into the garage the wifes little Corolla logs everything, while ever there is movement it runs.
Dash cams are great for B roll footage. Put a big SD card in and it will take 2 or 3 days travel that you can review later. It is amazing how much useful footage you can get. having said that, I cleverly deleted all my dash cam footage from our recent 2 week trip before I backed it up :(
I can’t wait to pull some candid footage off it on trips! So much happens that you miss because you can’t get the camera out fast enough, or simply didn’t expect it!
Its great he's all ok and its fixed thank God to be able to pay a bit extra for recoverys just in case its definitely worth it , this shows why solid front diffs are essential in our out back , who cares if there not as smooth riding as the modern stuff i would sacrifice a bit off comfort for tuff realibilty any day
Great wrap up Cam 👍👍👍 It was a great series, from the Simpson to Fraser 👍 i'm glad it worked out for the recovery, I don't think many of us can pull out that kind of cash so good advice for the insurance 👍👍👍 I have full RAC and it has paid for itself already and I think i'm still in front, but it wouldn't have helped me out there 😁 Cheer andy 🍺🍺🍺
Just discovered your channel - it's great! Am keen to get some icheck gear - have been looking into their TPMS and deflators. The dash cam looks good too. Interested to see your vids. Thanks. 😊
I'm doing a solo central Oz road trip atm for about 7 weeks and optioned up the $15k recovery 4x4 and cost about $250 . When I return I can cancel it and if not used can get a partial refund pre-race. Can't say enough how helpful these guys are about when working out the "best" solution for the customer. Even when I put through a claim they were happy to work with a local panel beater and sort out the repairs.
Hey Cam, great video’s. I enjoy them every week. My 300 has dusting issues at the front of the rear doors right where the fabric meets the plastic on the B pillar. Noticed it after crossing the Madigan Line. This was my 16th crossing and i have never seen it so rough. My tailgate was also leaking until i put Bob Goa electric tailgate kit in the car. The soft close has made a huge difference. This week i was in country Vic on a lot of dirt roads, i put the air on fresh and that has helped heaps. I have done nearly 40000km since December and have not used a drop of oil. I will be doing a post and video on my 300 VX shortly. Keep em coming. Ricky, Follow me 4wd SA. Look me up as i i am planning some trips to WA.
Don’t know if you had a conversation with club 4x4 but it doesn’t cost that much. I’ve just returned from Simpson and took out the $30k recovery package before departing. Cost me less than $80. You only pay for what you use. If I kept the cover for the 12 months it would have been $480-$490. Once you return from the trip you just ring up and cancel the recovery package. I had $420 something deposited back into my account!! Plus I’m still left with the standard recovery package that’s in my policy. Top mob to deal with.
Yeah I had their cover on the last car. I didn’t go for it on the new car. Was about $700 more a year for similar cover, and I wasn’t happy with the claims/repair process when I needed it.
Yeah you can go with the higher insurance for the trip and then change your policy when you get out of the Simpson. That’s what I did, had the cover for 1 month not the full 12
Once again, thanks for sharing your travels. Talking about throwing a curve ball had us stumped for a bit. Who's this Tony you speak of 😂😂. They seem like a good bunch of blokes cheers
Interesting to see the issues with your phone/garmin and not being able to switch on your compressor. I've spent my life in IT so I love shiny new things and the bleeding edge. But I fail to see the attraction of these new switching systems. When they fail, you're stuffed, as you can't poke around with a multi-meter and a pair of pliers to fix it. Your only option is to bypass it and rewire a new path. Last week I was away camping with a friend who had RedArc Smart Vision, and it was playing up and we were buggered. No water pump, no lights, trying to get in touch with RedArc technical support... I think: keep it simple.
Great series Cam. Were you supposed to catchup and do something with Justin from TIAV or is that later in the year? Or am i getting my UA-camrs mixed up?😂
Off-topic Cam, just curious as to what you do for a crust to be able to do what you and the toys you have? or does UA-cam support the lifestyle? Cheers
Hey Greg, up until the last 12months I’ve always worked shift work for the state government. Shift structure was really good and allowed for a fair bit of time off. Since then it’s just been UA-cam. If you want to shoot me a message im happy to chat about 👍🏼
Cheers mate, he’s mainly LandCruisers, Dmax, and NP300s I think. But best to check with them! Nah none of the other boys in this crew use AGD. They’re all way south of the river and have mechanics down that way.
Cheers for the reply mate, I’ll hit them up. I’m north too and Wangara is super convenient, been finding it really hard to find a trustworthy mechanic since moving over from NZ a year ago.
Was the Triton wishbone a Misubishi OEM or aftermarket? No one will get hurt in disclosing simple fact. Watched for ages expecting to find just that out and nothing (unless I missed it).
@@WildTouringI think you mentioned that in previous vid in passing but my point is that it wasn't that clear such that I thought I needed verification. I don't give a toss about Mitsubishi but I do own one and believe clarification was helpful. All the Mits haters would've been feeling royally smug and I think they need straightening out somewhat. Thanks Cam.
Easy for you to say mate. What if it had sentimental value? Also, I’m reasonably sure it’s illegal to dump a car in Australia that is still registered in your name lol
Re the tow. Context. The Perth thieving towies have charged us (for our hire cars) $5,000 for short distance metro tows and will not release the cars until paid. 3 in the last month. Taken from renters who have had minor accidents and told that they work for us. They blatantly say ‘the industry is unregulated so we can charge what we want’. $10k in this context is good value.
Ok here's my comment and likely unwelcome. You indicated that the grog was expensive at some places. My best advice is use that as an excuse not to buy alcohol. There is so much more likelihood of developing cancer all the way through your digestive system from mouth to arse it ain't worth the risk. And thanks for the video.
Agree about “remote” travel. Shouid have started 20 years ago! What brand stretcher you use under swag? I have a Darche and it’s a big saggy which is disappointing.
Haha called it! Now the big question. How! I dropped 5 kilograms after my knee surgery but as soon as I started moving properly again my appetite returned lol
@@heinzmartin8266 No grog, intermittent fasting (only eating between 10am- 6pm), and a carnivore/keto type diet (high fat/protein and very low carb). That always works really well for me. Keeps me full, and I don’t have to limit myself or calorie count etc. 👍🏼
we had RACQ ultimate, and RACQ wouldn't recover us on the Toowoomba range. RACQ are happy to take your money but do not offer customer service. A completely shocking service....!!!
@@WildTouring The Toowoomba range is hardly remote. I felt RACQ just ripped me off. I lodged a formal complaint which was dismissed. They didn't want to deal with it. Just don't waste your money.

Loved the update. Glad Gubb was sorted. Trashed your vehicles, was it worth it?
48 bucks for a 6 pack 😵💫
100% it was! Towing a van/boat and 4wd trips like this are the only reason I buy 4wds.
Hi Cam,keep up the content, love it and always have.just wondering if you and Tiff will be at the Perth 4wd show (on Saturday )
Cheers mate! Not 100% sure if we’ll be there yet. Will do on a post on socials when we figure out what we’re doing!
Once again, thanks for sharing your travels. Talking about throwing a curve ball had us stumped for a bit. Who's this Tony you speak of 😂😂. They seem like a good bunch of blokes cheers
Haha sorry, Tony/Duffy/Captain Stuck (and sometimes a blast of obscenities when he’s driving me nuts) are all used interchangeably 🤣
Looking forward to your car review
Good one mate
Nothing is remote anymore. Social media stuffed it!
Totally agree, I love innovation and gadgets! But not at the expense of practicality and reliability!
Nothing frightens a Triton - like a gravel road.
Bloody unfortunate but I wouldn't burn $15k on 10yo Triton. Gut it on a spot and walk away.
Glad gubby has recovered alright. I hope it hasn't knocked his confidence to much
Great series Cam. Were you supposed to catchup and do something with Justin from TIAV or is that later in the year? Or am i getting my UA-camrs mixed up?😂
Cheers mate! Yeah Justin was talking about doing Fraser with us, but didn’t make it in the end unfortunately.
Do AGD service other 4wds? Or just Landcruiser?
@@TheDizzymarskell he’s only taking on Landcruisers at the moment.
Off-topic Cam, just curious as to what you do for a crust to be able to do what you and the toys you have? or does UA-cam support the lifestyle?
Cheers
Hey Cam, what do u do for a full time job or what business do u have ? Would love to spend more time exploring like u do
Hey Greg, up until the last 12months I’ve always worked shift work for the state government. Shift structure was really good and allowed for a fair bit of time off. Since then it’s just been UA-cam. If you want to shoot me a message im happy to chat about 👍🏼
Awesome video cam, question about AGD does Aaron just service landcruisers? Does Duffy get his rig serviced at AGD too?
Cheers mate, he’s mainly LandCruisers, Dmax, and NP300s I think. But best to check with them! Nah none of the other boys in this crew use AGD. They’re all way south of the river and have mechanics down that way.
Cheers for the reply mate, I’ll hit them up. I’m north too and Wangara is super convenient, been finding it really hard to find a trustworthy mechanic since moving over from NZ a year ago.
@@imraanjacobs14 totally understand, I do a 90min+ round trip to take my car there, so hard to find a good mechanic!
Was the Triton wishbone a Misubishi OEM or aftermarket? No one will get hurt in disclosing simple fact. Watched for ages expecting to find just that out and nothing (unless I missed it).
Pretty sure I mentioned it! It was a 6 week old aftermarket part from Repco. Should have met/exceeded OEM spec.
Thanks Cam.
Should have stopped past Just Autos on your way home from Fraser and seen if they can sort the code issue
I’d walk out 15k lighter with all the works 😂
@@WildTouring worth it tho 👌
The Triton wouldn’t have been worth the recovery cost. Take the plates off and leave it there
100 %
Easy for you to say mate. What if it had sentimental value? Also, I’m reasonably sure it’s illegal to dump a car in Australia that is still registered in your name lol
Strong word's, from a bloke who hasn't been out of sight, of ya front gate.
Re the tow.
That’s the price champ.
Havnt experienced that myself, but have heard similar 👍🏼
Cam it shows $ 127 0ff on your screen but not on the order screen so what is the go the only discount is your 10% off is $26.27 regards Glenn
Gday Glenn, the discount code during that period gives you a free $99 multitool, in addition to the 10% discount 👍🏼
Noice Episode...
@@jbjb3372 nah that’s a fair comment.
Just wrapped up 5 weeks without a drink and feeling great 👍🏼
hopefully Gubb got insurance otherwise leave the old girl out there
Agree about “remote” travel. Shouid have started 20 years ago! What brand stretcher you use under swag? I have a Darche and it’s a big saggy which is disappointing.
The dashcam doesn’t have a rear view camera.
Correct, just a front facing dash camera. 👍🏼
Can we order Dash cam please
Sure, here’s is the link;

Use my discount code ‘WILD’ at checkout to get the free multitool and 10% off 👍🏼
Did you lose a few pounds? I preparation for the Japan trip lol
Looking a bit thinner in the face…
You’re very observant 🙂 I lost 10kg between this Simmo trip and Japan, in preparation for all the eating and drinking I’ve been doing over here! 🤣
Yeah I hear a lot of the same story. And it’s concerning because there are so many people that think their cover will rescue them from anywhere 😬
@@WildTouring The Toowoomba range is hardly remote. I felt RACQ just ripped me off. I lodged a formal complaint which was dismissed. They didn't want to deal with it. Just don't waste your money.
Yes Warburton know how to rob you. $750 for a tyre for a Prado. 👎
Just rename Duffy = Free Content
🤣
