- In 2019, Bittboy released a successor/upgraded model to their budget retro handheld, the PocketGo. The New PocketGo, also known as the PocketGo V2, added a bigger display, additional buttons, a joystick, and much better internals. Coming in to 2020, Bittboy decided to refresh their new flagship by addressing a few common complaints with the original model while also changing a few other features (like RG350 compatibility). What’s the differences between the two models?
Supports NES, SNES, GB, GBA, Genesis/Mega Drive, Master System, Sega CD, Neo-Geo, Neo-Geo Pocket, FBA, MAME, DosBox, Wonderswan, and PS1.

3:25 - The menu button is technically still fully functional, it's jut not mapped in software. Long story short, the original PocketGo 2 ran its own firmware and had its own mappings so the emulators that shipped with it were custom-built to make use of its keys. The new PocketGo 2 runs the same firmware as the RG350 and the emulators it ships with have been built with the RG350's mapping in mind and since the RG350 doesn't have a dedicated menu button, these apps no longer recognise the menu button either. I've successfully re-built some of these emulators to still use the latest firmware but regain access to the menu button of the new PocketGo 2.
hi, could you make those emulators you reprogrammed available with a link?
Good summary.
I have a *Powkiddy Q80* branded version of this device.
It has a reset button on the bottom and no menu button so I assume it's the newer release
It is like having a *GCW Zero* from 7 years ago - but with a better screen _and_ replaceable battery!.
Awesome review im waiting for my pocket go v2.1 I should get mine any day now from retromini thanks for the compare differences.
Forgot to meation on version 2.1
They upgraded there dpad and analog stick
I did mention the analog stick, but the dpad I kinda lumped in with the buttons. The buttons and the dpad got the same adjustment from what I can tell. I'm not a huge fan of either analog stick to be honest. Spins in the socket and the new version can catch when pressing downward. But the dpad on the new one is better overall.
LOHTEC thank you for correcting me 👍👍😃😃 thanks for the info 😉😉
thank you just ordered one :)
Enjoy 😉 I love how kinda like Nintendo switch got 4 shoulder buttons L1 L2 R1 R2 and cool color buttons. How you can replace the battery 🔋. Be able to play classics on the go all systems up to PS1.
Is that Tyrain!? god damn I forgot about that beautiful game. It's going right on my pocket go asap
Yep, OpenTyrian comes preinstalled!
@@LohTec oh hell yea. I get mine tomorrow!
Hey ,great video! I have a question, did the New Pocket Go v2.1 come with Pre-installed roms on it?
It did have some, but they say on their site that it doesn't so YMMV. There will be other games at the very least.
LOHTEC thank you so much! Also do you think there is something better to get than this but is also around the same price range in your opinion? Im very interested in this and other retro handhelds. Do you have a video to learn how to download roms? I would really like to learn how to download it safely and correctly.
Thanks for the review.
When you show the Spyro, the image in V2.0 is sharper. Are they two different emulators? Or maybe it's because the image in V2.1 is more stretched up and down?
It's the stretching. Same emulator. Can be disabled 😉 should have disabled in my part
@@LohTec Don`t worry. Thank you very much for the clarification.
How is the sleep mode on it?
I'd love to get one but it depends entirely if you can just pop it into sleep mode and wake it up seamlessly, like a 3ds or a vita.
Not natively at least, no. Currently doesn't seem to support it, but the rg350 is the same way. In the future it may be possible
Hey there
I cant find a place where to buy the 2.1 version also your ebay link says only v2. Could you help me please?
V2.1 isn't the official name. They didn't change the name so it can be hard to tell which is which, but if it has a reset button then it's V2.1. It will also come with the multicolored buttons preinstalled.
Can you compare the pocketgo v2.1 to the playgo (v2.2 as they call it). Thanks.
I'll look into it
the playgo looks identical to the v2.1, are you sure it's a newer revision?
where can i buy?
Is the black and white q90 this upgraded one it’s got the reset
You'd have to send me a link to be sure since often times there are updated models I am not aware of, but the Q90 is more similar to the PocketGo V1 than to the V2. Should have a video on the Q90 soon.
LOHTEC I meant q80 it’s on AliExpress
Ah, yes, it looks they are the same. Also see the PlayGo which they call V2.2. Will see about getting one of those.
A few things I didn't highlight well: 1) The D-Pad also got the same upgrade as the buttons, being less stiff and less travel distance. 2) My V2.1 exhibits CPU whine, but YMMV. 3) Both of my units came with a few ROMs installed. 4) The analog stick in V2.1 is also less stiff, but on my model the mechanism can get stuck if you are pressing downward. 5) V2 and V2.1 are not official distinctions, so some listings may only say V2. Best way to be sure is check for a reset button.
Can anyone help me with the brightness problem? I got the New Pocket Go V2.1 i try the Select + Volume up or down, to dim the light and I don't know why is not working, i love the console, but i can't play at night because the light is so powerful, any suggestions will be appreciated, thanks everyone
I'm pretty sure you need to press the power button + volume up or down. I can check as soon as the battery charges.
@@LohTec Sadly is not working for me, maybe my console came defective 😔😔 but thanks you very much for taking your time to try to help me
Make sure you are in the main menu. It only works from there. It is Power+Volume on the official firmware.
@@LohTec Is my second day using the console, i didn't changed the firmware
I tried the power + volume and tried the select + volume on the main menu and in the game and I can't dim the light, i really don't know whats happening, this is so disappointing
Did you hold power and then hold volume down?
I can't get over how washed out the big PocketGo looks compared to how vibrant the small one looks.
Does it look like that in person?
The small one is pretty vibrant, but the big one doesn't look bad in person and is more vibrant than my RG350M
I fucked up the firmware and have no idea what to do, how do i reinstall it on my sd card

The one point that makes it appealing to me it's the price. Sadly the build quality is giving me mixed signals (screen bleeding, rotating analog nub, useless button) and makes me want to get an RG350 instead. It's kinda sad because Bittboy seems to have good ideas but a bit of a bad implementation with every device they release.
RG350M would definitely be an upgrade in terms of build, but you could also check the RK2020 since they are similarly priced.
First version looks cooler.
You can always change the buttons to the black and purple!
