I went from having over 2 million cashes online to not playing any online for years. Spiraling doing Drugs and just battling my depression with substances. Now I’m back to the grind. Listen to your pods. Studying, found my passion again. Would love to join your pod after a few big scores under me to discuss the journey.

For me this is a clear case of the 2 different types of people in life when it comes to either motivation and work ethic or when it comes to things like depression. You can see it all the way from school all the way through life. You have those who are self motivated, they want to do things and they just do them without any real thought and obstructions, they never really suffer depression in life and when they do it merely lasts a few days or weeks and they snap out of it and get back on the path they were on. These people can't hugely understand the issues that the other type of person has in life, Bencb reminds me mostly of this type of person.
Then you have the other, they need pushing from early in life, yes they might be good at things and might enjoy things that they are good at but to really excel they need those parents or teachers etc to really be on them, really push them to achieve what they want to and without that they take it half paced. Then adulthood comes and they are on their own, they either give up most things and become depressed in life that they didn't make it and depression for them is a crutch, but it is also something that seems impossible to get out of, it becomes constant or around the corner. Or they just find something safe in life to do and they keep doing it, keep going along and not rocking the boat because life is ok. But everyday is a chore to them, they wish they could have done this or that... Life isn't easy for this person, self motivation is all about willpower, getting up in the morning while suffering depression is willpower, becoming what you want is a battle everyday. Some really struggle and just act like a victim in life and others like myself and Jaime Staples push daily to become more and not let our faults dictate who we are and how we will live.
I admire both these guys immensely but they do come from different spectrums in their chemistry for sure. Both have achieved crazy things really for all different kinds of reasons, much love to both.

      I see your point.
I agree on a lot of points.
There is 1 part where I have a different view. We are not born unmotivated. We are not born to be desperate and frustrated and lacking willpower.
No, we a born with a natural drive to be curious, to learn, to excel, to thrive. EVERYONE! (unless you have a disease).
Along the way, through our experiences we change, because of our parents, educational system, society, teachers and friends. Especially in our younger age. Some make experiences that make them more confident, more positive and eager to take risks and life and push through, some make, unfortunately, rather tragic and negative experiences which can lead to losing confidence and the willingness to thrive.
However, both still have the ambition, the fire, the passion within, it just needs to be brought to the surface. It doesn't mean that 1 person has lost it forever. It is his responsibility to work on it and bring it up again. To work on his past, be vulnerable, learning to live with it and moving forward.
You will find people who experienced the worst things you can imagine and still found meaning in it and live happy lives and others who did not take the responsibility and live in the past forever.

Excellent. So in the UK 10 years ago, we had a few league tournaments pop up that where played in pubs, social clubs etc. This attracted so many new people to the game from all back grounds and ages. The basics are you paid a fee £5, £2 went to the league £1 to the event organiser and £2 into the prize pool. The aim was to accumulate enough points over a 17 game period to qualify for a regional final with a first prize of £1000. The game was so soft as you can imagine and was very enjoyable. Unfortunately as years passed and the same players had battled for 5-10 years, these players started to believe/talk like they had become poker pro's, and damaged the overall concept of the game with constant needling to new recruits and how they played. I have dabbled in the online streets on and off for 15 years, allbeit as a recreational player. My personal opinions is, sites should organise similar opportunities for recreational players were you can create your own avatars etc as mentioned in the podcast. My thoughts behind this are, these players over a period of time can adapt to the online streets as its a completely different game compared to live. Being able to create your own profile and battle with people of a similar ability that don't have time to study/solve would surely over a period of time, introduce more players to the hard-core online poker scene and battle for the big bucks. I could go on and on about recreational players views about online poker (mainly those with not much experience but have dabbled) but it's nothing to disimilar to the chat pros streamers get in there chats. I'm your average person with a passion for the game with hope it can develop into much more than it is now. Let's face it, poker is seen as a form of gambling, it's on the same level as sports betting, slot machines etc but in my mind, they are nothing alike.

Anyone remembers Athene? Chiren80 on Stars that thought like this. Brought over alot of gamers into Poker in the early 2000s, I used to play WoW on the same battlegrp as him back in 2007 and he was very succseful, in Poker aswell I think he set a world record for x ammout of hands played in a month and got SNE at NL2-NL5. He also saw this as a problem by competing with other games but he made a difference and brought alot of WoW gamers into Poker, I started playing after he was talking about it 24/7 on warcraftmovies. He inspired people that you can make a living from playing games like he did. Today I think its way different back then UA-cam wasnt even a thing and you streamed on Webpage platforms and forums. Today twitch and UA-cam controls what will be seen to you, recomended and previous stuff you watched so it's really hard for new players to be attracted to the game, then there is all the different goverment issues, I live in Sweden and the last 2 years has been hell as an online player, so many stupid regulations and the state is trying to control it and see poker as a lucky gamble game where you can't win. I think that scares alot of people to play because it is so dangerous and addictive on TV.
