One thing to consider is the sheer stamina of Adam Rupp. He does these 10 minute solos after performing for a solid hour with the group in concert. Then he will spend up to another hour after his solo finishing the concert. When on tour they may perform 7 shows a week. The man is a beast to keep up with this physical endurance test.
@@KlownMusicReacts Adam has won Championships and he has been doing this 15 yrs at the point of this video and currently it's been 24 yrs of experience. Adam would love it if you checked out his friend Heatbox . ua-cam.com/video/ofFtBSsHeN4/v-deo.htmlsi=M9I6tzN-FcZf_QhC
The trick with Adam Rupp is that he's not primarily a solo beatboxer. He's the percussionist, background sounds, and sometimes high harmony part for a vocal group. He does all his own arrangements for the percussion on the hundreds of songs they've released, as well as full-on arranging some of the songs they've done. His focus has to be on the song and the sound of the group overall. Sometimes that means doing a very simple, subdued rhythm with brushes, and sometimes he goes all out -- it all depends on what the song needs. In concert he's not just providing the percussion, he's providing background harmonies, doing choreo, and running the looper which layers his and the other performers' voices when needed -- all live, on the fly, in person. When you include his throat bass, he actually has the widest range of anyone in the group -- wider that the 4+ octave baritone or the 5+ octave bass. So, yeah, this is basically one arrangement of about 400-500 that he's done. He hasn't had the time to hone his craft as a solo beatboxer or compete in that realm because he's arranging the percussion on 1-3 songs every month, recording audio, recording video, rehearsing, touring, and performing. When he's not doing that, he has a home and a family he needs and wants to spend time with. His focus, dedication, hard work, experience, and talent are just unparalleled. He's the heartbeat of Home Free. Without him, the group would not exist. This is why the Home Fries love him (and why you might get a bit of flack for any criticism -- some of the Fries are a bit overprotective).
He was a trumpet performance major in college, so breath control is part of that. He stated that he uses in and out breathing sounds....not Circular breathing per se....he also learned basic drums to make it more authentic. This was many years ago...and has only gotten better. He also uses a looper now to assist. He and his brother co-founded Home Free while in college, and that is when he started learning Beat Boxing.

AWESOME reaction :) Thank you for really analyzing Mr. Rupp from a beatboxer's perspective. Love your comments!!! He is a former brass player, as am I, and I think that really helps with his technique. He's a wonderful showman, as well, and he has become even more crisp over the years. Plus his "Drop that Bass" has become wayyy better over the years. BTW I don't mind the pauses, so whenever you react to Home Free, it's fine to pause! Most Home Fries don't mind.
Adam has said that even if he had the inclination to compete, he doesn't have time. Along with rehearsing, recording, videotaping & touring, he's married with children. He also plays drums, trumpet, piano & anything else he picks up. BTW, they all can beatbox to a lesser degree (see "9-5 beatboxing breakdown").
Adam sounds like real drums, which is not really something I have heard from other beatboxers. One thing you have to consider with a cappella beat boxers/vocal drummers, they may have a solo here and there but they are not solo artists. They are part of a group. That's very different compared to a normal beatboxer. As a singer who also failed to master throat bass it is also fascinating to me that he manages to stay on the correct pitch in throat bass when in a song.
I agree. Adam is a vocal percussionist first but he incorporates some beatboxing sounds. He provides the drum beats & percussion for Home Free & Tim Foust provided the bass guitar sounds. Most other beatboxers in the other a cappella groups just sound like they are trying to mimic sounds whereas Adam replicates the instruments so perfectly you actually forget there are not real instruments but it is actually coming from a human voice.

@Klownmusicreacts There are so many out there from over the years. I've probably got 10 or 20 on my channel alone that range from 2017 to 2023. I know others have recordings as well. Search Adam Rupp Drum Solo or Adam Rupp Beatbox Solo and you should find quite a few.
That was really interesting. Good to learn something about how the different sounds are made and the use of breath. Your mention of Mongolian throat singing, as well as some of the sounds he made, made me think of the Hu (a Mongolian folk metal band). If you like the sound of Mongolian throat singing, they are fantastic.
Adam has stated in interviews that he loves the Hu and I know Adam does do throat singing. Just to put in my 2 cents. 👍😉 (although he is imitating a didgeridoo in his set here. It's even better now)
I see Home Free whenever they are within 250 miles of me and their shows never get old. I can see the same solo performed by Adam several times in a row and am astounded Every.Single. Time.
Love Adam Rupp. He’s incredible. This is an old one - almost 10 years ago. He now uses a looper and records his sounds but will also do a solo mike performance. I love this one even though it’s old as it’s just him with a mike. If you’d like to hear him with the group try Listen to the Music (by the Doobie Brothers). He’s great! 🤩😄
Adam has won The World Champion Ship 2 times; he is the best and also won The Sing Off with Home Free so for us Fries this is 9 years old one, so much better now. 💞💞👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽

Adam is the most solid beat boxer I've ever heard. New to Your channel and I'm so glad you don't swear. It's all over UA-cam sites and I don't understand why folks think they should have to say these awful things to get their attention. Great video reaction.
I respect your professional ear...and your points are valid as far as I can tell. I LOVE the enthusiasm and passion you have for your craft 😎Big UPS to you 😁
The way you showed the tent shape rather than the surround makes a lot of sense on that bass riff, but I'm not too sure how he could have accomplished that with only two hands, while he was also doing movements with his free hand to augment the visual portion of the show. Had he a had a stand, that would have been possible, but no matter how hard he has tried to make it otherwise, he still only has two hands. I do think the alternate method you showed sounded better, but using one of your feet seems overly difficult 🙂 I am not a beat boxer, but I always learn so much seeing an accomplished pro critique another's work. I've watched masterclass guitar classes too, from guys like Tuck Andress, and I don't play guitar either, What I have learned, though, is knowing at least ta little bit about all the techniques employed greatly adds to my enjoyment watching performances. What truly amazes me in beatboxing is not so much the individual sounds, but the agility you guys have switching them many, many times a second, and interleaving many combinations, to dynamically weave some really great stuff to listen to. It's always cool when a whole new style is invented, or at least honed to the point of art. Bobby McFerrin, which his vocal gymnastics is another that comes to mind. If you haven't seen it, look at the Swinging Bach - Bobby McFerrin and Friends, recorded in Leipzig, especially his last set.
Agree or Disagree. That is up to you. This is YOUR channel. If someone disagrees with you and gets mad about it, that is their problem. They can leave and not come back. We, or I came here for your reactions. Not your approval or disapproval of something. I am curious, and you provide the info to answer my questions. Keep going, brother.
That drum solo was from 2015, I'd like to see you react to a more recent drum solo and talk about how much improvement you see. We know everybody is constantly learning and improving, but how much.
Good reaction, but as someone pointed out, this is a very old performance and he has greatly improved. Also, as for the fast sections not being clean, it has more to do with the fact it was recorded on a cell phone than anything. I have seen him do this routine live and it is very clean.
This was great - I learned so much! Thanks for sharing your knowledge. Speaking of which, you teach young kids beatboxing?!? Oh I bet they love your workshops! Awesome 💜🥔
this is the oldest of his sets. this is good but i think he does get a little cleaner in later solos in different tours. some of which you can also find on youtube
If you want to hear him do a harmonica you should listen to MAN OF CONSTANT SORROW. People thought he really had one hidden in his hand. The sounds are all beatboxed on that song and I think one of the others contribute to that.
I really enjoyed your reaction. I totally love Adam's skills, and I agree with some of the other comments ahead of mine, that this older set is really NOT what you'd hear from Adam even a few years more recently. Then, if you hear some of his REALLY new stuff, I think you'll see and hear some big differences, that may or may not impress you differently. One of my favorite OLDER sets, is when they were in Scotland a few years back (before 2016, when Chris -- Adam's younger brother -- was still with them). It's quite amazing, because it's a beatboxing BATTLE, in front of a live audience. ua-cam.com/video/0hv3cVuMW_w/v-deo.htmlsi=Oz2BomhJeok3HfZU I think you'll enjoy it, because they ALL get involved in it. I really did enjoy your skill here, too. I can do a little bit of stuff, and it's a lot of fun, but nothing like either of you can do. THANKS for the fun reaction. 😀
You may already have done this, but for sounds that you have wanted to perfect, and just cant get them down, or they make you cough, or get an itchy throat, talk to a vocal coach. Even though they may know nothing about beatboxing, they do know how to teach you new, or improved techniques that may then let you create a sound that has eluded you so far.
Wasn't that great! Love Adam Rupp & his insane talent. He is the best out there in my opinion. He simulates the sounds of a drum perfectly. Many drummers have commented on how good he is. He sounds so realistic. His breath control must be crazy. I heard he makes the sounds both while inhaling & exhaling. This was a few years ago & hard to believe but he is even better now. Adam is the glue that holds Home Free together. He is their secret weapon which other a cappella groups can't match.
Oeee very interesting! Could you please provide me with some sources on that, The official world champions is based in germany "beatbox battle TV" and the other word class is called GBB (Grand Beatbox Battle), so there must be some other battle you are refering to
Home Free - "Elvira" is pretty good. and if you like boyz II men, listen to them do "end of the road".... Then I would also recommend "Skull and bones" They did that for a video game but it shows you different people. Once you get into home free and hear a bit of them, I will give a few other... try these 3 first.
I don't get why people love to say Adam has won 2 "championships" when he's said himself he's never competed professionally and never wanted to 😂 Not to say he's not an amazing beatboxer, but he doesn't strike me as the type of beatboxer that would even make it to the big world stages in the beatbox world. Most of the people who say that probably don't realize how deep the pro beatbox community goes and how many incredible top level beatboxers there actually are. Hell I knew of Klown as a beatboxer long before he even started doing these reactions, while most people just know him as a reactor dude who can beatbox 🤣🤣
So, it is NOT a capella! The rest of the Home Free group could sing during a power outage and sound the same (but quieter) but the beatbox absolutely needs a mike. 😁
I really appreciate your reaction as a beat boxer, but he is not JUST a beat boxer, Home Free is a capella, he is every instrument but voice, react to the Boyz 2 Men cover of End of the Road, please.❤
Now go back and listen to it without stopping once and actually hear it all together to feel the flow better. You paused so often you missed out on getting the FEEL of his flow switches being so seamlessly woven together and how he has the sections to help divide up the different styles.I know being a pro you get excited and want to pause and nothings wrong with a pause once in awhile, but as a pro I would also figure you'd want to hear it through in its entirety without breaking the flow.🙂i love your honesty and enthusiasm and find you fun to watch.🎶❤✌
Good feedback, the composition was great indeed! The issue is, if I don't pauze, I'll be frustrated so much that I cannot say what is amazing about certain parts, then I have to remember those thouhts too and then be afraid I'll forget them
that was extremely insightful, I loved your technical commentary - thank you! I am sure you are familiar with Tom Thum? I'd love to see an analysis of one of his videos! For example the Showcase from BeatBox Battle TV from 8 years ago (ua-cam.com/video/_O0MKN31iXk/v-deo.html&ab_channel=BEATBOXBATTLE%C2%AE) I even prefer that over his much more well known presentation" Beatbox Brilliance" at TEDxSydney from 10 years ago (ua-cam.com/video/GNZBSZD16cY/v-deo.html&ab_channel=TEDxTalks) but definitely both are neat keep up the great work, best wishes
NOBODY LIKES A SHOWOFF!! YOU ARE CLEARLY JUST LEARNING WHAT ADAM HAS ALREADY FORGOTTEN AS THIS SHOW IS A DECADE OLD. hE IS DOING THIS 10 MINUTES SPOT AFTER 1 HOUR OF BACKING EVERY SONG IN THE SHOW AND IS GOING TO BACK ANOTHER 1 HOUR AFTER INTERMISSION.
I did take your advice and looked at several of your videos. I didn't see anything too recent perhaps you have improved. In my opinion all I heard was random noise. Remember I am expressing my own opinion Adam Rupp is better.
The most honest thing you said was "I have way too much to say". Too much to the point that you spent more time trying to imitate what he was doing than he spent doing it. Comment and analysis is great but not when it reaches the point that what you're reacting to loses any cohesion and becomes isolated seconds interrupting your monologues. Sometimes you just need to learn when to shut the **** up for a minute, listen to the content and then react and analyse.
Klown, There was some critical on his technique. But obviously he felt performance was more imortant ; i.e. using one hand rather than increase auditory performance!
I see what you are saying, beatbox is so much more than just beatbox, i am too all about the performance, i love artists doing their thing on stage, BUT it is still possible to get better mic technique with only 1 hand because he could have placed his microphone closer to his nose while still using 1 hand.

Great reaction, you should check out his newer solo he now uses a looper and part of his solo and it’s so good.
It's even better now)
I knew you would appreciate his technique 😁👍
It was nice to see you demonstrate what he is doing
If you ask Adam, this is not one of his favorite solos. He is much happier with his more recent ones.
I love Home Free, and I've had my mind blown by this beat box solo before. I enjoyed your insights AS A BEAT BOXER. Cool insights, man!
He’s great! 🤩😄
At 16:23 I don't think he's doing Mongolian throat singing...he said "Deep in the southern Outback," which means Australia. He's doing a Didgeridoo.
Really fun and knowledgeable reaction, thanks!
You're impressive with ya skills
I appreciate your comments and criticisms. Show us what you’ve got.
Sure I like that idea :) ill do some intros with some beatbox soon :)
Adam is expert level!!!!, sounds like you are too
Im just a brass player, and can sort of sing, but no beatbox, sat on the stage at Carnegie twice
Adam is one of the best and IS clean and crisp.
I believe he uses some form of circular breathing for his longer sections, helping his breath control.
Adam has won The World Champion Ship 2 times; he is the best and also won The Sing Off with Home Free so for us Fries this is 9 years old one, so much better now. 💞💞👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
People have been saying that he won it 2 times, but i cannot find a source for that, could you please link it to me?
I looked on the world championship website "beatboxbattletv" from germany and the grand beatbox battles "GBB" those are the only official world league battles, so maybe he won a different kind of battle
For the world champions in the category for men we have:
Joel Turner 2005
ZeDe 2009
SkilleR 2012
Alem 2015
Alexihno 2018
FootboxG 2023
And for GBB we have:
2011 Skiller
2012 Ball-Zee
2013 Dharni
2014 Dharni
2015 Gene
2016 Kenny Urban
2017 Napom
2018 Codfish
2019 D-Low
2020 no battles because pandemic
2021 Colaps
2023 River'
Adam is the most solid beat boxer I've ever heard.
New to Your channel and I'm so glad you don't swear. It's all over UA-cam sites and I don't understand why folks think they should have to say these awful things to get their attention. Great video reaction.
I respect your professional ear...and your points are valid as far as I can tell. I LOVE the enthusiasm and passion you have for your craft 😎Big UPS to you 😁
Adam will run circles around you
The way you showed the tent shape rather than the surround makes a lot of sense on that bass riff, but I'm not too sure how he could have accomplished that with only two hands, while he was also doing movements with his free hand to augment the visual portion of the show. Had he a had a stand, that would have been possible, but no matter how hard he has tried to make it otherwise, he still only has two hands. I do think the alternate method you showed sounded better, but using one of your feet seems overly difficult 🙂
I am not a beat boxer, but I always learn so much seeing an accomplished pro critique another's work.
You are right, ill do it very soon!
Home fries are devoted, so critiques are difficult for them! 😂😂
Good reaction, but as someone pointed out, this is a very old performance and he has greatly improved. Also, as for the fast sections not being clean, it has more to do with the fact it was recorded on a cell phone than anything. I have seen him do this routine live and it is very clean.
I don't think Adam is even human. A lizardnoid and I don't even think that's a word anyways.
This was great - I learned so much! Thanks for sharing your knowledge. Speaking of which, you teach young kids beatboxing?!? Oh I bet they love your workshops! Awesome 💜🥔
Nice!
this is the oldest of his sets. this is good but i think he does get a little cleaner in later solos in different tours. some of which you can also find on youtube
If you want to hear him do a harmonica you should listen to MAN OF CONSTANT SORROW. People thought he really had one hidden in his hand. The sounds are all beatboxed on that song and I think one of the others contribute to that.
One of my favourite video's ive made, you should check it :)
It's quite amazing, because it's a beatboxing BATTLE, in front of a live audience.
ua-cam.com/video/0hv3cVuMW_w/v-deo.htmlsi=Oz2BomhJeok3HfZU
I think you'll enjoy it, because they ALL get involved in it.
I really did enjoy your skill here, too. I can do a little bit of stuff, and it's a lot of fun, but nothing like either of you can do. THANKS for the fun reaction. 😀
great reaction
Enjoyed and appreciated your reaction
He is also a 2 time world champion beat boxer.
Oeee very interesting! Could you please provide me with some sources on that, The official world champions is based in germany "beatbox battle TV" and the other word class is called GBB (Grand Beatbox Battle), so there must be some other battle you are refering to
Thank you so much for your video
It's a Christma song, but I know how you appreciate Adam Rupp. This was arranged by him... ENJOY! ua-cam.com/video/wIQQDYaoWpc/v-deo.html
He also has very nice tenor singing voice
❤️
Home Free - "Elvira" is pretty good. and if you like boyz II men, listen to them do "end of the road".... Then I would also recommend "Skull and bones" They did that for a video game but it shows you different people. Once you get into home free and hear a bit of them, I will give a few other... try these 3 first.
You should check out a more recent video. He's gotten so much better. Great reaction ❤ thank you ❤
Mooie reactie, ik hou van eerlijkheid!
I mean you dop realize this video you are watching is from so ones iPhone stand. ng in te audience, right?
Did I actually hear you say that you are better?!?!? 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Ooooooh. I like your bass.
The issue is, if I don't pauze, I'll be frustrated so much that I cannot say what is amazing about certain parts, then I have to remember those thouhts too and then be afraid I'll forget them
Your attempt at the digeridoo sounded just fine to me....And I know people who play the real thing well. Don't get down on yourself Bro....
that was extremely insightful, I loved your technical commentary - thank you!
I am sure you are familiar with Tom Thum? I'd love to see an analysis of one of his videos!
For example the Showcase from BeatBox Battle TV from 8 years ago (ua-cam.com/video/_O0MKN31iXk/v-deo.html&ab_channel=BEATBOXBATTLE%C2%AE)
I even prefer that over his much more well known presentation" Beatbox Brilliance" at TEDxSydney from 10 years ago (ua-cam.com/video/GNZBSZD16cY/v-deo.html&ab_channel=TEDxTalks)
but definitely both are neat
keep up the great work, best wishes
NOBODY LIKES A SHOWOFF!! YOU ARE CLEARLY JUST LEARNING WHAT ADAM HAS ALREADY FORGOTTEN AS THIS SHOW IS A DECADE OLD. hE IS DOING THIS 10 MINUTES SPOT AFTER 1 HOUR OF BACKING EVERY SONG IN THE SHOW AND IS GOING TO BACK ANOTHER 1 HOUR AFTER INTERMISSION.
You talking about sound quality…you need to realize this vid was recorded with a camera phone.
Listening to your sound compared to Adam's, you should just listen and learn!
Why does it sound like you're spitting into the mic?
Are you Irish because I sure have a lot of it in me. Anyways I'm binge watching your channel.😊
Dutch
Listen to Adam now , talk later . You don’t have to show us what you’re are capable of during The entire video
Haha, ok, you know you're good. 🙄...but so is he.😏
I did take your advice and looked at several of your videos. I didn't see anything too recent perhaps you have improved. In my opinion all I heard was random noise. Remember I am expressing my own opinion Adam Rupp is better.
Your audio rig isn't making the point you think it is. Demonstrating riffs isn't coming off.
What I love about this is just calling it a drum solo is juusst a little misleading.
If and when you get your own band and cam perform as well as Adam, THEN you can correct him.
I praised his performance
The most honest thing you said was "I have way too much to say". Too much to the point that you spent more time trying to imitate what he was doing than he spent doing it. Comment and analysis is great but not when it reaches the point that what you're reacting to loses any cohesion and becomes isolated seconds interrupting your monologues. Sometimes you just need to learn when to shut the **** up for a minute, listen to the content and then react and analyse.
Klown,
There was some critical on his technique.
I get it now CLOWN Music
if you are a PRO Beatboxer i do not want to see a armature
