    I think the demand for intense longevity in fragrances rn is so interesting. It reminds me of back in the 2010’s when so many of us were getting into beauty UA-cam and makeup in general. Back then, everyone wanted the most pigmented eyeshadow, most full coverage base products, most blinding highlights, etc. Like we all wanted the most bang for our buck, and the products had to have huge, noticeable impact for us to see them as worth the money. I see this beast mode fragrance preference as being really similar to this, and I wonder if in a few years when more of us have been into fragrance for longer, the demand pendulum will swing back to lighter, more refined scents, similar to how makeup trends have really swung away from full coverage, high intensity looks. Just interesting to think about!

    • @rz1974
      @rz1974 2 дні тому +19

      Yes! Similar to beer too with IPAs (hah probably the wrong audience), everything got so extremely hoppy and then the pendulum swung back to something more drinkable. I think lots of people who are so focused on longevity aren't thinking much about their lifestyle. I work from home so I don't really need something that lasts > 4-5 hours. Also, seems not many people are considering the idea of decanting for a travel spray. People freshen up their makeup, I wash my face on the go, why not refresh your fragrance halfway through the day as well. Longevity aside, I do think there is already a demand for lighter scents though. Skin scents are hugely popular. Houses like D'Annam are flourishing because all of their scents are light, soft and easy to wear.

      i think another angle this could go in is scent profile... I think oud has had a big presence lately, hyper complex gourmands, i am so. ready. for florals to be done with. Hear me out, florals have had big presence in tandem with whole tradwife and traditonal fem and old money and all that and rise in conservatism- it's all connected! I'm hoping we'll move towards more spicy, unisex, interesting fragrances available and marketed to women also, eventually the pendulum will swing back to a new wave of feminism to address the regression of expectation and gender roles. I know this sounds convoluted but beauty has never not been political.

    • @nunyabizay9253
      @nunyabizay9253 2 дні тому +9

      Nope, completely disagree. I have all that “bold” makeup and I can make it look very bold and glam or very natural depending on how I apply the same exact products. I also have skin tints, tinted balm, etc.. and use them in combination. That being said, I pay big bucks to have big results. If I wanted to buy a body spray, I would buy a body spray. It shouldn’t take 20-30 sprays for the perfume to stay MAYBE 3 hours. Companies could easily offer the same scent in different concentrations (as well as oils) to cater to consumer needs, but I highly doubt anyone would enjoy paying $$$ for lightly scented air.

    When it comes to the longevity of a perfume, many people don’t take into consideration that you can go nose blind. You may not be able to smell the perfume you are wearing after a few hours, but somebody else encountering you for the first time can absolutely smell the perfume you spritzed on 15 times.

Body mists with moisturizing or anti-aging properties. I'm not someone who is obsessed with longevity or sillage--in fact, I'm kind of a dainty spritzer and don't want people to smell me until they're fairly close--but I understand why the average American wants stuff to last longer. We work long hours and don't always have the "just carry it in your purse" option. I'm in a jury trial right now, so I can't just take a break to reapply, and I keep getting a bit sad that I don't smell quite as lovely by the second half of the day.

    Two things I want to see in 2025: 1) deodorants that compliment popular scents. My deodorant is pretty different than what I choose for my perfume but it's the one that works best for me (also plastic free and aluminum free). I would love if my deodorant was similar in smell to my favorite perfume. 2) I would love a scent class. An after hours scent class at a perfume counter where they explain and demonstrate some of the notes that are mentioned so I can better understand what I like and pick my signature scent that way. Maybe they have that? I dunno, I find it kind of overwhelming and intimidating at the perfume counter

    When the average markup on a designer fragrance is around 90% and noting not everyone has fragrance collection as a hobby; I think it's completely realistic and reasonable to expect a fragrance to have decent longevity (and sillage, depending on the category). "Decent longevity" would involve a few criteria and variables but I think if you pay top coin, you should expect the fragrance to last at least 8 hours.

    Two trends that I could imagine would be fragrances marketed for young girls (an extension of the skin care craze) and men's fragrances developed as extensions of products for shaving, beard care, etc. These are underdeveloped markets in the fragrance industry. As for women's fragrances, I would like to see more cleanly formulated Nature-inspired fragrances. And for surprising fragrances that might be developed by iconic brands: Cinnabon (imagine room sprays and candles); Sunkist; and scented sunscreens developed from iconic fragrance brands.

    I think personally we may see more longevity paired specifically with strong distinctive scents. One thing I’ve noticed while selling at BBW is the general public wanting strength, longevity, & uniqueness. Although, it’s not the usual uniqueness that we have they’re really craving those stronger notes. A heavy cold gourmand, a myrrh, frankincense, etc. What a lot of my customers describe is essentially niche perfumes, especially for their demographic. In my area you have more people breaking the “scent gender norms” & you’ll have girls wanting a milk scent, but wanting it to have leather & anamalic notes. Or men craving gourmand scents, but gourmands that are way more androgynous. I essentially think, the perfumes marketed towards the general public will see a shift towards more unconventional scents. I could see perfume houses adopting this in late 2025, especially in early 2026 as the trend starts to take off. I think the reason for this, is due to the gourmand trend, people are becoming aware to unique scent notes & notes that work better for them. The second skin era, you didn’t really have this as though the scents were unique they were meant to blend in & just be the second skin that they were. I notice as we focus more on standing out scent wise, these more unique olfactory cravings start to come up as people aren’t as afraid to find a unique scent that pairs well with their skin, that also feels as if they are doing something daring by using said fragrance. I don’t think it’ll necessarily be a huge trend, but it’ll be noticeable enough to people paying attention.

    Anosmia is such a thing guys ! Nose blindness is partial or complete loss of sense of smell, temporary or permanent. This can be for a physical reason or neurological. As soon as we start smelling something, our brain is determining if it is safe, a lot of the pleasant fragrances we like, our brain will deem safe and your receptors are more likely to go anosmic .
    It’s the theory behind why people don’t go as anosmic to smokey fragrances. Even really sensitive noses experience anosmia and it’s something our brain and body use to function and not be sensorily overloaded. It’s always good measure to ask other people when possible if they can still detect our fragrance, it’s just too difficult to determine yourself . That being said, my primary goal in fragrance is that I enjoy it, so I certainly want to smell it and am no stranger to reapplication… just consider your surroundings and ask someone. I continually get compliments when I think I no longer smell my own fragrance .sadly I don’t think excessive overspraying will actually extend longevity, you will smell stronger for the exact amount of time .

    I’m still relatively new to fragrance (only got my first 1-2 two years ago and started exploring more and paying attention a lot this past year), so the idea of fragrance having trends like fashion and makeup is interesting to me. I think I’m just gonna enjoy seeing what ends up on the shelves at my local Ulta and trying them out to fine-tune my preferences.
    But for budget reasons, I’m trying really hard to stick to only buying samples and/or travel sizes unless I can get a crazy good deal on a larger bottle of a scent I 100% love. For samples, especially, it looks like I’m ending up in a lot of niche brands, which could be fun! I’ve already got some Zoologist scents I’m considering for spring (Hummingbird, Dragonfly, and Rabbit), and I just came across another brand called Maison des Animaux with their scent Sirius, which supposedly smells like a chai latte.

    With how immensely popular and hyped up gourmands tend to be, I feel like Aunt Annie's might be the start of an oncoming wave of tons of food brands releasing fragrances. Think Ben & Jerry's/Jeni's/Van Leeuwen, major cereal brands, beverage companies, candy companies... While it doesn't describe every gourmand lover, there absolutely is a market for people desiring photorealistic scents of their favorite stuff to eat & drink. Some small indie fragrance sellers have already been doing this, but I can can absolutely see big name brands wanting to try and get in on that for themselves. Don't know if 2025 will be the exact year for it, but it would not surprise me if it came along sometime soon.

    A brand I'd LOVE to see launch a perfume/mist is Tatcha. I've continued buying their Dewy Skin Cream because I absolutely adore it's beautiful, soft scent. Every time I apply it (so pretty much everyday) I send up a quick prayer to the perfume gods that someday Tatcha will release this scent in a perfume. I'd give almost anything to see that come to fruition 🙏
    Also, I'd really love if Guerlain would make a perfume of the fragrance of their Advanced Youth Watery Oil. It's such a gorgeous scent and I'd love to be able to smell like my watery oil 😍
    So, basically, yes, I want to smell like my skincare and, no, fragrance in skincare doesn't bother me. Especially not when they smell as incredible as the aforementioned products.
    Finally, I'd really, truly love if Caudalie would bring back their Parfum Divin. I miss it SO much. I still have less than a third left of my very last bottle & I simply can't let it go. I purchased this bottle in 2017 or 2018 & used it frequently & liberally. When I went to repurchase I could no longer find it so I was forced to make it a "only for special occasions" product which sucks. I'm not entirely sure if Parfum Divin is still sold in EU (does anyone know?) but, here in the US, I've not been able to find it & it breaks my heart 💔 😢

    i think it would be SO fun if urban decay came out with perfumes. they love the messy party girl/rockstar aesthetic and i think they could come up with some super interesting scents! to go along with asian cuisine inspired gourmands and plum: there's this japanese condiment (?) called umeboshi which is basically salted japanese plums. they're tangy, sour, and salty, and i could definitely see a brand coming out with an umeboshi-inspired perfume especially around the summertime (and i'll try it!).

Since gourmands have been so popular, I also think there might be a counter trend of soapy/clean/aldehyde scents. And I love weird gourmands. But for my bottles that I saved for and are $250 and over for 100 mils 4 hours is not worth my money for me. now when I find a fragrance that last long eight hours plus or even beast mode for under $50 for 100 mils that’s a gem and that’s called stretching your dollar. for the majority of consumers stretching the dollar is everything. A fragrance that can last an eight hour shift is rare and a gem.

    • @penelopepalm

      @@lololalala1000 you definitely have a point that the more we pay the more we expect in all facets. In general buying a $250+ bottle of perfume is not something I do because it’s perfume which is a luxury and I don’t need a full bottle of everything I like. So yeah we probably have very different perspectives. If I bought $300 bottles I’m sure I’d want them to be worth it too.

    I hope Bath and Body Works expands their laundry options (and maybe cool it with the lavender scents they took away my beloved white tea and sage and gave us like three lavenders in exchange. I don’t even hate them it’s just I think they went overboard with it.) convert their Vanilla Romance into a laundry detergent and fragrance booster.
    I’d like to see more spices like cardamon and coriander (maybe paprika but that could just be the Hungarian side of my family speaking?) it was the cardamon that made Vanilla Romance irresistible for me. Also more laundry taking the scents from the men’s cologne section I would buy Noir scented laundry detergent so fast. And a real pipe dream hot cocoa and cream laundry detergent honestly they should bring it back in everything. It’s one of the store’s best scents ever.

    I like Babycat! and BB Goddess Intense. Both approaches to vanilla are really cozy and quite rounded. I think Goddess Intense could also be worn by men, and Babycat even more so because of the incense. I'm not sure whether I'm only seeing more scents in the area between the gourmand and the oriental / resiny / incensy / Benzoe / Olibanum area, just because that's where my personal taste is meandering to right now, or if this is a general trend - can't say. But if I'd have to put it out there, I'd say I expect a trend towards comforting perfumes, because we live in a world that's unravelling at increasing speed, and more people will want to feel safe in their spaces.

    ive seen an uptick in fruit and asian-inspired scents in almost all categories involving fragrance. strawberry is gaining traction again but my hope and prediction is itll be a greener and fresher take on strawberry than the recent sugar bomb aligned scents of 2024. Alongside savory and asian rooted notes I can see a real marriage of trendy notes, a revival of clean and minimal paired back scents, like imagine a strawberry and shiso perfume? I say this as someone who works in the cosmetics and beauty sector that the tail end of 2024 has seen a rise of "intentional shopping" and a return to thoughtful and minimalistic tastes. I believe that scents perhaps will continue to swing this way
