What a gift she was, what a gift she had, writing and singing. What a gift this video is capturing her spirit and all we've sadly lost. Thanks for everything Nanci.
True Americana, blending country, folk, tragedy, and humor all in brilliant musical short stories of younger and older love, family and friends, wonder and loss. Bless you, Nanci, for Blessing us with your Music and Humanity. Rest in Peace, Angelic Songbird.
Godspeed 🕊Rest In Power 🕊Rest In Peace🕊 God bless Nanci 🕊 8/13/21 🙏 She's a Songbird and a Angel wearing crooked halo with her colorful salty jokes early on in her career... A true Angel with voice of a songbird. 👼🏻 🙏
When I first heard Nanci in the mid to late 80s the two things stood out for me , apart from Nanci's performance, was Philip Donnelly's unique guitar sound and licks, and Lloyd Green's fine pedal steel , Lloyd was really on fire during those sessions. Very sad to hear of her death at only 68 years of age.
I learnt this song from a greatesr hits album back in 1993..And it comes be as I clean the house, sing that first line like I am in thst moment or driving the car and feel alittle off...its a perfecf moodshuffler!
We had a drought here in southern Colorado this past summer. I played this song while I was hauling some water. I really wished it would rain ... and it finally did while I was playing this song. One of my all-time favorite tunes. I hope that she is doing well.
Oh I wish it would rain to wash my face clean I want to find a dark cloud to hide in me love and the memory sparkles like diamonds when the diamonds fall it burns like tears when the diamonds falls it hurts like tears
Nanci was a lot more candid with her audience before she signed with MCA records. One of her last bad girl jokes was "What's the difference between a lawyer and a snake [roadkill]? The snake has skid marks before it." (Yes, I was invited to the party at Andersons Fair for both Nanci Griffith and Lyle Lovett when they signed with MCA one after another, first Nanci, later Lyle. No problem getting into Nanci's MCA contract, signing party. But Lyle snail-mailed out really expensive invitations, almost RSVP. Which probably explains why I couldn't get in, invitation in hand, because of fire code, occupancy regulations. The place was packed. However, after I was turned away from the door, Lyle somehow found out and came chasing after me. He caught up with me near my car in the Texas Art Supply parking lot and gave me a copy of his demo album on cassette. A demo album is supposed to have three of four songs. Lyle's demo album had more than two full albums of songs.) Get religious with states' rights. Only the amazing grace of Jesus The Christ of The Holy Bible has been saving a wretch like me.
No. The one I love is way out west. And he never will need me. Uh, sort of. Artistic license. That's right, he's from Texas. Always opening for Nanci at Andersons Fair in those days. Even consecutive nights. One time on the next night with a smug, satisfied look as he glanced at her from the stage, maybe? Sometimes really old home movies show up of the two of them at a barbecue backyard concert in the late 1970s before I ever started to listen to folk music. But she married Eric Taylor. Then divorced him. He married Julia Roberts. Then divorced her.
Brilliant song, but not sure why Nanci needs a band and vocal partner. She can play guitar and has a voice that doesn't need anything else to get in the way.
Reccord co's /producers are well known for wrecking great artists, only a few enhance their careers,: "more is better" and "for a larger audience/i.e.$$$s" are the motives involved...a really good singer/instrumentalist can do their best work solo-ish, but many feel more secure with a band, it's a tough career...
No doubt she’s in a class by herself as a solo performer. But throughout her career she arranged her music for the “orchestra.” It’s as much a feature of her music as anything else. The brief Denny Bixby era was sublime. That man could harmonize.

She had so many great songs, but this & Boots are two of my favorites. What a sweetheart & so gifted! R.I.P. Dear Nanci! You are loved!
Boots? Are you referring to the Bob Dylan song Boots of Spanish Leather? "And yes, there is something you can send back to me..."
Nancy Griffith... the only smile that could melt the sun.
Melted my heart.

Well written song that puts you in a definitive place geographically.
Mac Macanally is such a fine backup singer for our dear Nanci. He gets her.
I still love you Nanci Caroline Griffith ❤️
godspeed nancy thanks for all of it
When she died, I absolutely could not believe it, did not think that was even possible.💔
Loved that wonderful Texan drawl in many of her beautiful songs. RIP Nanci
I haven't heard this song since I ran from my cheating wife in 98. I remembered most of the words and sang along. See you in Glory Miss Nancy!
A beautiful person ,an incredible voice,RIP

No one is better than Nanci. Love
I saw Nanci perform many times and early on in her career as well. she came a fully formed musician. An old soul. she will truly be missed.
Nancy is the best!
Agree with you Nanci is the best but it is better if you write Nanci and not Nancy ...
Thanks Franko, I get it.
Been a fan of this gal since the 80's. Love her music!
Good journey Nanci.
Wonderful song.
@olimpixable Ditto... I remember hearing this song when I was 30... now I'm 53.... great song!!
And now you're 63, still sound pretty good?
Neal Baker not quite 63, I’m 62. I love music!! This song is a favorite!! Thanks for reply!! In these times, a little sunshine ☀️ is welcome
I changed the lyrics for singing - I want to find that love at 22 here at 63. No joke. No joke.
@@clearfield2009 I’m 63 now, too! 🙌🏼💯
RIP Nanci

I love this song.
Here in 2022. Where has this song been all my life??
Rest In Peace.
I have been listening to this song for a whole week and it did finally rain after almost 2 months !!
Oh I wish it would rain to wash my face clean I want to find a dark cloud to hide in me love and the memory sparkles like diamonds when the diamonds fall it burns like tears when the diamonds falls it hurts like tears
🥰😍
hi from New Zealand
love the song but where or what is the Georga pan she sings of
Pretty sure it's Georgia Pines. Not sure where exactly that is; I assume it's the Appalachian northern part of the state.
Who's the guy in blue she's singing with?
Her bassist, Denny Bixby.
@@jacksonurenmusic Thank you.

I guess this one is for you, Mackenzie Phillips?
Who are the three thumbs down??
Lol people who can’t appreciate vocal and musical talent. Too bad
Who cares?
UA-cam has done away with showing the thumbs downs.

Perhaps she just likes/needs some company.
