I bought this water heater ua-cam.com/users/postUgkx8G49mV71sAzUl9shXyLW-r3XgHH9EVh1 for use in my bus conversion. I installed it under my kitchen sink and it is fed by a high efficiency on-demand LP water heater. It is both a backup hot water source as well as a water saving device since we have hot water on demand rather than having to wait for the gas on demand water heater to finish its ignition cycle. I decided on this water heater due to the fact that it only draws 1300watts when it's ON instead of the 1500 watts that most Water heaters this size draw. In an RV a couple hundred watts can be a big deal. With very low standby losses, I don't have to worry about excessive power consumption. When propane is not available for our gas water heater, in conjunction with our low flow shower head there is enough hot water available to shower, albeit we won't be taking "hotel showers." Also very happy with the recovery rate of this water heater. Granted, it is quite small, but it does exactly what we need it to do.
Awesome help!! For me it was a brand new water heater out of box, all hooked up and tank filled.....no spark!!!! It was the connection you pointed out on the back side of the ignitor push button switch. I was about to have a meltdown! You and UA-cam saved the day! Thank You!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you for this video!! I did a bunch of troubleshooting and had a service tech scheduled to come out later today. Disconnect the cable connection for the igniter, blew out the connecter and reconnected the wire. Worked right away!
Omg.... I have a totally different sparker and after wiggling the cable to make it tighter it finally worked. What a great insight, thanks! I was so tired of cold showers 😆
the wiggling of the cable was what worked for me hahahaha after disconnecting and reconnecting did not work. thank you for this video, it gave me the confidence to try and fix things before calling in someone to repair
Mine stopped and so I went to Google and found this video. I said surely jiggling a cable will make no difference. When I say it lit immediately, I mean immediately. Thank you
Thank you! I took the igniter wire coupling apart, applied some contact cleaner and put back together. It took a few sparks but got the pilot light lit within 40 seconds. Note: if you listen carefully, you can hear when it lights (a subtle pop). After that, about 20 seconds later the light started blinking every 3 seconds or so.
I needed a T20 Torx bit to remove the burner assembly on a 2019 Richmond 50-gallon WH. Cleaned the igniter and tip of the pilot tube with sandpaper and then reassembled it. Wearing rubber gloves, I wiggled the orange wire around while repeatedly pushing the green button and it eventually lit the pilot. Held the pilot knob down for another minute and voila, ready to heat some water. Thanks for the inspiration!
Found my pilot out and couldn’t relight as no spark. Glad I found this video as I did not even think to check that and was exactly what it was. Thanks!!
Thanks for this video. After watching I was able to get it lit after several tries. Tip: I was too timid at first. It took three or four pressing of the button that lights the spark. After several unsuccessful attempts to keep it lit I realized I needed to press and hold the red button while turning the knob from pilot to ON and I kept button pressed down while turning the dial from vacation to HOT... whoosh! Success at last. Thanks again.
Sometimes the problem is the igniter wire itself. Check the wire for continuity. The piezo (igniter) can be the issue and the contact on the back end of it. Don’t recommend removing the burner. Might damage the gasket and if you don’t know what you’re doing you could possibly damage it. The thermocouple, burner tube and be careful with the pilot tube. The brass end of the thermocouple can be easy to cross thread so be gentle.
Thank you SOOOOO much for posting this! I’m hosting thanksgiving in 2 days and our hot water heater broke. I wasn’t getting a spark, tightened the connection, fired right up!! Cannot tell you how appreciative I am. PS, I was getting shocked trying to light the pilot before I fixed it. 😂 It didn’t hurt tho haha
Not positive i understand your question, but yes.. this type of connection is designed to plug straight into each other end to end. No bending of the wires required. Basically, you just need the metal to metal contact.. nothing complicated.
Thank you for that…… I was struggling, trying to figure out what to do. I just to hook n unhook. Mess with the wire a little and clean the back. BOOM and then there was light!!!!
Sorry, I can't really help you without seeing it. You might just have to cut the wire if there is no easy way to disconnect it. Hopefully there is a place you can disconnect it at the burner itself.
What if you get spark using igniter button while not depressing pilot, but no spark if you depress pilot while igniting? I was able to light pilot with burner assembly removed though....
I wish I was more qualified to help you, I found this comment on a different forum about someone's problem (I think the jist of the comment is that there might be a sensor that is preventing it from sparking. Make sure all your connections are snug: Make sure the thermocouple nut is snug on the bottom of the gas valve. There may be a TCO protector in the system that is open. Hope you get it figured out.
Thanks! You think that sensor is in the pilot assembly cus rheem thinks pilot assembly is bad. Supposed to be getting new one on wednesday @@koreyfreemanofficial
@JMBlackNet i don't know if there is in fact a sensor in your assembly.. i am not a water heater tech. I don't see a sensor in the diagram in my video. But i am pretty confident getting a new pilot assembly will take care of your issue. There isnt many other parts to a water heater and the assembly is where the spark is made.
I had someone fix my hot water tank wire but he did a quick fix he didn’t replace my igniter wire but lit the water heater know my water heater went out due to a flood and I need it lit back up I wanna know is it safe to light it with a lighter because it’s an electric and gas
I think you could, but I am not qualified to give you advice on this. Maybe this article will be helpful? www.designswan.com/archives/how-to-light-a-water-heater-without-an-igniter.html
I have the same water heater, and my igniter seems to only work when it wants to, which is about 40% of the time. Normally, this wouldn't be a problem, but if the wind blows more than 15mph, the pilot light goes out. The wind blows often here. = (
Just installed my Rheem last night, ended up being the same problem. Could not get flame to ignite until I tried pulling that apart and reconnecting. Been working ever since.
Awesome! The ignitor wire is only needed for igniting the pilot so you should be good now! Lately I have been running with it unplugged because my toddler kept yanking in it 🙂
@@daletechel9221 how do u connect it ? I had a flood and I’m trying my best to light it so it can spark but it’s not. I got a fan drying it out now but idk what else to do 😩😩
@@Starkidd689 If the water got high enough and the bottom of the water heater was under water, the igniter if probably wet or maybe damaged from being under water. I'd suggest either calling for service or maybe googling what to do after a flooded basement in trying to re-ignite the heater.
Yeah, it's a common electrical connection where things can easily be disconnected, but i have been shocked to see how many other people have experienced this issue! It's def not fool proof
@@theketonurse8755 Do you mean it is designed to have a switch/button but it is missing/removed? If not, then it is a manual-light design and you can light it with a long match or a torch (not a flashlight, but a flame). You still must hold the pilot button in briefly to override the shutoff valve. The torch flame will heat up the safety thermocouple much faster than the pilot light so you shouldn't have to keep the knob pushed in for very long before it will run on its own.
Unplugged it hooked it up and boon got the spark lit on the first try. You just saved me a few hundred thank you very much!
