      Ford builds awesome engines. I watched a video of an old 351 out of *I believe* '69 F-150, but I could be wrong on the year. However they ran it "Boosted" up to around 1,050 H.P. before they killed it. 1,050 fucken ponies out of an old 351 pick-up truck engine. The 4.6's are like that as well, so I imagine with a 'this and that', "Godzilla" could...probably make it to 1,300 H.P. (although it doesn't need to, but every American V-8 Ford fan tests everything out. My goodness, give these Fords respect Chevy guys, I'm telling ya, they are badass.

    I like these videos more than the exotic car videos. Nice one! I think if I were to have the need for a HD truck Id really consider this gas over a diesel. Not just for the lower up front cost but the maintenance costs over its life. I know what an entire new catalytic converter DPF exhaust section costs on one of the new power strokes. Had one stolen off one of our trucks at work, after the replacement parts and labor at the dealer it topped $10k I'm sure it was an insurance/theft type thing but wow!

      Pushrods are not what you should consider to be the 'best' part of an engine.
      I understand where you are coming from, I think. I love that Ford went with a pushrod engine, but there are certainly more options they could have gone with. Cost is the number 1 reason they went pushrod.

      @@bekabeka71 Cam phasers allow the ECM to adjust cam timing depending on engine requirements to be more efficient or powerful. Think VTEC. It sound great in theory but the cam phasers in the Ford 3 valve modular engines were notorious for failing and causing a loud clicking noise at idle and engine codes. Restricted oil galleries in the engine block that feed the cam phasers were found to be why they failed and the only repair was to replace the whole engine assembly. Ford engineers may have learned from that and have made sure that wont happen with the 7.3 but time will tell. I own a 2003 F250 ext cab, 8' box 4X4 with a 5.4 2 valve that doesn't have cam phasers. It is a half ton engine in a super duty so I replaced replace the cams for more torque and HP, electric fan conversion and more efficient Y-Pipe. I get 15 to 17 mpg with truck if I don't speed.

    Amazing engine in an amazing truck
    Hopefully more people will realize it’s a work truck engine, and that is how Ford designed it
    Made for very long life and big low end and mid range torque, not high horsepower redline pulls or fast quarter mile times
    I’m sure it can be made into a performance engine with very little work, as the block, crank, valve train, etc is extremely stout
    But out of the dealership floor it’s a work truck engine made for work
    Does what it was designed to do perfectly
    (Seem some people’s complaining that the HP of this engine isn’t higher, and those people don’t seem to understand the difference between in a work truck engine vs and performance engine)

    • @brussell639
      @brussell639 4 роки тому +7

      The reason the HP is only 430 is so in the next years to come, they can easily increase that to stay on top of GM and Dodge. It's how the game is played.

    • @JohnDiMartino
      @JohnDiMartino 4 роки тому +6

      Aaron Hainan I agree 100%. As a fleet mechanic who gets to purchase the trucks for his place of employment I have not been able to even consider Ford trucks due to the Triton OHC based engines. Our trucks run all all day long ,and idle a lot with emergency
      Ights and radios needing to stay on all day. I wouldn’t consider a modern diesel for our application, first off they are way too expensive,they have way too much power for my guys and the emissions system would be a huge problem with all the idling.This Ford V-8 is meant for work. I have been buying GM three-quarter and 1 ton trucks with 6.0 L V8 these engines are absolutely rock solid. Now GM has went to a 6.6 L version however they are now using direct injection which I am not happy about. I now I have the option of a Ford again and this big block uses his port injectors only. I’m so tired of hearing about how people are disappointed in the power it makes as if this was a performance engine I could care less about a performance application for this engine I am very excited about the potential longevity of it and it’s long-term durability.

    • @dragon81heart
      @dragon81heart 4 роки тому +2

      John DiMartino oh yeah I agree 100% about the direct vs port injection
      Might get a few extra horsepower with the direct but it also runs into carbon build up issues on the valves where the port injection doesn’t (well eventually the port injection will need a little cleaning too but that is well after 100k miles)

    • @dragon81heart
      @dragon81heart 4 роки тому +2

      John DiMartino and don’t even get me started on the 3 valve 5.4 lol
      The 2 valve ones were ok
      And the 4.6 was fine
      But that 3 valve 5.4...
      It’s like a Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde lol
      Great engine...for about a year or two
      Then turns into a monster that constantly rapes your wallet lol 💰

    • @dragon81heart
      @dragon81heart 4 роки тому +3

      brussell639 yeah they all try to one up each other year to year
      What I mean is there are some complaining this doesn’t make 550-600+ horsepower
      It’s not made to be a performance engine
      It’s made to be a work truck engine
      To be used hard, run at wide open throttle for long periods of time, and last for years and years in those conditions
      It wouldn’t hold up if tuned to make a lot more horsepower
      (And if anyone doubts the power of it go watch the newest TFL Truck video when they compare the new 7.3 to GMs new 6.6 gas while pulling a trailer up Eisenhower pass.
      The 7.3 pulled it up over 3 minutes faster than the GM
      I knew this new 7.3 was good but holy shit it absolutely destroys the other gas engines available and didn’t even break a sweat!)

    Idk if truck people have diesel haters, most of us love them. The problem is they have a $6000 mark up, the modern emissions and tech make them expensive to maintain which causes more issues and chokes performance, and with diesel costing more than regular gas, it makes sense why someone would choose a gas burner.

    Hey Mike, I remember that video when you were talking about buying a Tremor. I've had mine for just over a month now and its absolutely great. I ordered mine as a lariat sport tremor with the 6.7 and most other options (except for moonroof and power running boards).
    The 6.7 is a powerhouse, the truck just blows off the tires. I've pulled a couple of relatively light trailers, My raptor can definitely feel them but the Tremor doesn't even know that its there.
    Living with the size of the truck is the worst part though. Getting in is definitely more of a chore compared to the raptor (not wife friendly). Parking is definitely a pain though, in some areas the truck is too long to turn anywhere and curb jumping is a must. It will not fit in any parking garage too (it is a little over 80 inches high) Although the camera technology is great and makes driving such a large truck easier. The only good thing I can say about the size is it is quite a bit narrower than a raptor, it is much easier to keep in a lane.
    I haven't really taken the truck offroad yet but I can tell it will do just fine. It definitely won't soak up bumps like a raptor though.
    So far I have 3 thousand miles on the clock and have had no issues so far. I plan on doing a few mods like leveling it, adding lights and maybe 37s.
    If anybody is considering a superduty I would only recommend buying it if you really need the capability of it. Nowadays a half ton gets the job done fine. I don't really need a 3/4 ton but I wanted the Tremor and diesel so I made the sacrifice.

    • @ziggy149
      @ziggy149 4 роки тому +2

      That 14 Raptor Tomorrow I’ll be ordering mine. Sounds like I’ll be at a similar trim to yours. 80 inches is still less than 7 feet. That’s not super limiting. I’ll likely be having a Carli system installed; which would then create a problem with the parking garages definitely. Glad to hear the new iteration of power stroke is a rocket.

    • @Blue_Flame_Raptor
      @Blue_Flame_Raptor 4 роки тому +1

      @@ziggy149 I've been looking into a Carli system aswell. Remember that f250s got lowered by 1/2" in the front and an 1 1/2 inches in the back. Tremor is raised by 1" in the front and 1.5" in the back. That makes it higher than a 2017-2019 by 1/2 inch all the way around (excluding the larger tires). A Carli 2.5" leveling kit would still have a rake of 1/2". I dont really want a larger lift for the truck, I get in and out of it all day. They are currently looking for 2020 test vehicles. I'll just wait and see what they come up with.

    I finally stepped up from a V-10 to a 6.7L Power Stroke a couple of years ago when my towing/hauling needs surpassed the V-10s comfort zone. I considered a 6.2L gas, but decided it wasn't enough of an upgrade over my 99 V-10. The 6.7L is almost overkill. My biggest issue with buying a diesel is the extra $10K admission, extra (spendy) maintenance, and the HUGE repair costs down the road. This new 7.3L with the 10-speed auto and a set of 4.30 gears would have been a near perfect compromise. Being in my mid-50s and the fact I used my V-10 truck for nearly 20 years, my current F-350 could very well be the last big truck I'll ever own... but if I find myself in the market again, this truck has moved to the top of my list. (P.S. The V-10 truck didn't leave the fleet. It is still my go-to truck unless I need to tow a heavy load.)

      @@michaellarrick8881 For me the problem was more aerodynamic. I had a 1200 lb overhead camper and towing about a 5000 lb 20' enclosed trailer. Would run down the highway at 65 fine until I hit a headwind. To maintain speed, the V-10 would have to spin over 4k rpm in a lower gear. Just too frenzied to have do for miles on end. My '99 V-10 is lowest hp/torque of the V-10s; Newer would be better. The 6.7 PS loafs with the same load; I think the Godzilla would split the difference and be way more economical (repairs) in the long run.

    Great review... there was a day I said I would never own a non diesel truck, but my next truck will be a 7.3. For just towing a boat/rv around FL the benefit of a diesel is diminished by the up front cost (I don’t care about resale), epa/emissions gremlins (reliability long term), def and maintenance costs which when put together outweigh the benefits unless you’re towing heavy loads daily, long distance or up in the mountains.

    • @timm9114
      @timm9114 2 роки тому

      That’s funny how we’re on opposite ends of the spectrum. I said I’ll never own another “newer” DEF diesel again after nothing but problems with limited miles. My work trucks are 2000-2003 7.3 diesels. My personal trucks were numerous generations of newer diesels for everyday around town and occasional vacation trailer hauling. Waaaaay to many problems with limited driving and costly non warranties repairs. My 7.3 Godzilla pulls better than my 2002 7.3 diesels. I thought I would never say something like that but it is totally true. I live in SoCal and we vacation in the sierras a lot (mammoth Mountain and Yosemite) I rented an f350 with 7.3 gas from enterprise to use as test run before I purchased and it did not disappoint. Streep 6 & 7 % grades wheee my 7.3 diesel maxed at 55 and would slow down from 65 down to 55….the 7.3 gas hits it had with the same load at 65 no problem. Gas mileage is crappy but it’s just when hauling on vacation so it’s a non issue. I purchased a 7.3 Tremor last year and has no problem hauling 12K bumper up to 17,500K with my flatbed and load of hay and 19,000 gooseneck stock trailer with cattle or horses. I’ll be updating my work fleet with these over the next couple of years.

    SO glad Ford offers a gasoline engine this capable. I see cherry picker utility trucks here in central Oklahoma equipped with the 6.4 HEMI all the time. Those companies don't want the expense and hassle of diesel power. Ford's 7.3 is even mightier. I don't "hate" diesels myself. Their efficiency and power are awesome. However, their higher sticker price and much higher maintenance costs just aren't worth it for many individuals and businesses.

    I’d disagree with his statement that there is not much low end torque. I have had mine for 2 weeks. I gave my 2014 f-150 with the 5.0 to my wife as a family vehicle, so I drove both regularly. There is significant amount of torque down low. So much so I have yet to even dip too deep into the throttle before I am at or over the speed limit. And the 10spd is tuned very well to this engine IMO. I have not towed my trailer yet but I can tell just normal driving it will do much much better. I test drove the 6.2 and this is significantly more powerful just from the seat of the pants feel.

    Really just depends on your needs. If you do not need the added towing ability of the diesel options and you would like the lower maintenance costs associated with a gasoline engine then this engine would be a good option. Seems to me this engine was primarily designed for longevity and lower cost of maintenance. Yes you will get less MPG than the diesel options but then again gasoline is about 30%-40% cheaper than diesel fuel.
