    About the things relating to fuel use: if someone's buying a 7000 lb + super duty, ordering the biggest gasser possible ... and then crying about fuel economy? They need their head checked because this thing is going to use more fuel than the priuses these kinds drive.

    • @HillsideAcres

      That’s the way I see it, I have a 4 cyl to commute to work. But going from 6.2 to 7.3 the 7.3 is more efficient and has more power so it’s really a no brainer if you are in the market for a gas motor. Thanks for watching !

      Never tried Eco mode. But getting 18mpg (no trailer, 600 lb of equipment) on flat roads, 9mpg (7500 lb bumper pull) though the Rockies and 110 degree desert roads on average with our 7.3 / 4.30 ratio. It's amazing since I'm coming from 5.7 liter Tundra and would get 13.8mpg (no trailer, same equipment), 4mpg (same trailer), but would be killing the Toyota at the same time.

    My 2020 f350 srw long bed 4x4 with 4.30s got 8.4 on a 5000 mile round trip from SC to Yellowstone. Pulled a 38ft travel trailer weighing 10,000 lbs. No issues with anything other than the cruise control in tow mode is horrible. Great truck for pulling, only got 9.5 towing the same trailer with a 2017 250 6.7. I'm at 11k miles 90 percent of which has been towing the rv. I special ordered mine with the max gvwr springs and 48 gallon tank. It's a beast. NIce truck - I just traded a 2020 F250 Godzilla V8 - XLT, FX4, etc., etc. - one year 47,000 miles (NOT hotshot). Averaged about 13 to 15mpg most the the time - I own a couple of businesses that require me to drive about 800 to 1000 miles a week to visit customers, go see the stores and visit with employees, etc. I really enjoyed the F250, never let me down - can haul anything really. Traded for a 2021 F150 Powerboost - mainly for the mileage (between 22 and 24mpg) and it will haul almost 2000 pounds without much fanfare. The F150 saves me about $120 to $150/WEEK on gas ... the main driver in CA where it will likely not go back down anytime soon!

      @@HillsideAcres I usually have 500 to 2000 pounds on board, so has to be a larger truck. The PowerBoost is really a great truck, great mileage too. 2000 pounds kind of brings the rear end down a bit, but a good compromise over 13mpg F250. But the godzilla engine is the BEST one I have ever had in a truck!

    Loving the 7.3 also! We have the 4.3 rear end. 6k miles on it so far. Half mileage towing our 7500lb toy hauler and highway driving. For a gas motor, this thing is insane. 9mpg avg towing the past 2k miles. Very hard mileage, be it. If you want to cover ground easily, it's happy spot is 2.5k -3k RPM in 8th gear (less gear hunting) at about 75mph. Previous tow vehicle was a 5.7 Tundra. It didn't have a happy spot when towing. Actually, it's happy spot was just sitting there looking good or going mud`in. Thanks for the video.

    I must be fortunate because I haven’t had any issues with my 2020 F350 Lariat 6.7l. I am averaging about 18.2 mpg and love my diesel. Pulls my trailer without issue. I was torn between the 6.7l and the Godzilla but eventually picked the diesel and haven’t regretted it yet. The improvements they made to the 2020 6.7l engine I think were very good.

    • @HillsideAcres
      @HillsideAcres  2 роки тому +1

      There’s definitely pros and cons to each. Way I saw it was that for the cost difference to a diesel I could buy a lot of gas. The gas motor suits all my towing needs pulls my 9 ton trailer without issue. I think if I were to need something heavier i would probably go to a pre emission tractor truck. The 6.7 does put out a ton of power.

    Nice review. This is pretty much the truck I'm looking at. One thing, if you are getting flashed with your headlights, have the dealer adjust them down a little. People flash you if they can't see. If you normally drive it when towing, that will cause the lights to shine even higher and make thing brighter for people coming at you.

    Great review. I’m glad I watch this video because it confirms why going with a F350 with the 4.30 rear end was the best choice. I think I lose maybe one mpg but like you said off the line it’s not a problem for me in fact just like you I’ve towed 18,000 pounds and had no problems whatsoever. Why anyone would go with a diesel with not only the entry cost of $11,000 But the long-term maintenance costs are outrageous. I had a previous 1 ton truck that had a $9000 repair and it only had 172,000 miles on it. I then had another repair right around 200,000 miles that was $6400. It’s just unbelievable how expensive diesels are.

    I'm towing 14K with a 2002 7.3 Powerstroke and need an upgrade. The 8K difference in price between the 6.7 Powerstroke and 7.3 gas motor means the "break even point" on economy (if there is one) is somewhere 12 years down the road. I think I need to stick with 7.3 displacement, switch to gas, get the 4.30 gears, and keep a cheap grocery getter beater dog car.

Downtime from taking a vehicle in for service and the rental costs associated with that cost me a lot more than any repairs I perform myself. I haven't actively used a vehicle warranty in 30+ years of owning vehicles. If it's a catastrophic failure, that's one thing but for the random problems that just pop up I typically google & youtube my own fixes. The white and black trim package is what it made it stand out to me. I am personally unbiased towards truck brands theres pros and cons to all of them of all years, but owning 5 Fords and one Chevy ive really got no complaints with ford other than the head gasket in our 06 6.0 diesel going out at just 100k but thats typical for those. When it comes to towing i think how the truck handles the weight is more important than power, your international would be a good example of that. If i were to go any bigger of a truck id probably go for an older semi truck single axle would be awesome.

    Nice! Shopped last fall, set on a 7.3 Superduty, wanted a extended cab 2 door short bed. Good luck finding one of those.. ended up getting a deal on a 2020 Lariat F150 FX4 5.0 4 door demo with 2,400 miles, knocked 15k off 60k. Bumper pulls my 18’ 10,000# trailer with the L2501HST just fine. My next truck (probably 3-4 years from now) should be my “retirement” truck. Definitely going to order exactly what I want: Navy F350 Lariat super cab, short bed, 7.3 low gears, rear locker, add front leveling kit, 35’s, fabricated bumpers, possibly a 12,000 winch & Diamondback cover. Maybe in the Tremor trim….

      As i was reading this all i was thinking was just order a tremor! They come very well equipped from the factory. The 150 is a good suit for moving the 2501 at a very attractive price. I dont think any dealers can budge on price now that the supply is in the hole! We bought this one before it was a huge crisis and were able to get a few thousand off at least, but i am really happy with what we got. I wish i was 3-4 years from retirement!

I was torn between this and the diesel but for me it does everything i need and when I'm not towing the fuel consumption isn't too bad... That 10 speed helps a bunch. It’s less than ideal and due to the trailer tongue weight I’m a little over my gvwr on the truck when we’re all loaded up with my family of 4. My brother had a 07 powerstroke cost him 20,000 in two years right after the warranty went out. Almost everyone i know has horror stories of broke down diesels with massive repair bills plus missing work or jobs due to being in the shop. If you need a diesel to pull your load get one but it will cost you in the long run i can just about guarantee it. I wouldn't get a diesel in anything less than a dually. If a single rear wheel truck can pull it gas will do it just fine. If i needed more than that i probably would go with diesel even with all the headaches.

    I really like the white with the Sport package. I have a 2020 F250 with the 7.3, 3:55 gears. Mine is a "Silver Spruce" color, I don't know if it was available in the US. Initially I wanted a 6.2 with the 6 speed, since my father has had 4 of them and they have always been rock solid. But no dealers had any stock, so my local dealer had this truck with the 7.3 and 10 speed that I ended up getting. I wanted the 7.3, but not first year production, and I really didn't hear good things about the 10 speed. Ultimately I had no options and needed a truck so that's what I got. This was September 2020, so it's been almost a year for me as well and so far it's been amazing. Once in a while the transmission will shift weird, like slipping in 5th when pulling onto the highway. But I think the worse problem with that 10 speed is the programming, I feel like there's a ton of room for improvement there. Alot of times it acts like a 6 speed, instead of 10. It will drop 2 gears instead of 1, so why have that extra gear in between? I think down the line I will get a tuner for it, since in the past with other vehicles, they can make a world of difference in how a vehicle performs.
    My 7.3 gets better fuel economy than my father's 2019 6.2, and the power difference is night and day. The 7.3 is a monster compared to the 6.2.
    Like I mentioned, the transmission has me a little concerned about how it will last in the long run, but while it has warranty on it, I'm not gonna worry about it too much.
    Also I should mention, I have my exhaust slightly modified, I removed the muffler, the rear most tail pipe reaonator, and the other reaonator that is before the muffler, leaving only the first 2 in/1 out resonator. It has a really nice sound, maybe too loud for some, but I guarantee you people turn their heads and wonder what on earth is in that truck when I drive by lol.

    • @HillsideAcres
      @HillsideAcres  3 роки тому +1

      I had no concerns as i dont plan to keep the truck out of warranty. I think the gear skipping is possibly due to the top three gears being overdrive gears but im really not positive on that. I agree with the major improvement from the 6.2. Im really not into modifying my trucks but i have considored doing something mild on this one. Have a lot on my plate at the moment to be wrenching on the truck lol. Thanks for watching!

    About warranty work. I work at a dealership and we always go above and beyond to get the warranty work. It's corporate themselves that need determining proof of the work that needs done. So when you go to a dealership, they are always trying to get whatever is needed under warranty. It's good pay from corporate. Corporate does nit pick and all T's must be crossed though. In fact we've been put into audit status a few times because the Technician doesn't provide good enough diagnostic documentation.

      I liked that the 250 has a 10,000gvw as i have several trailers at 16000 gvw which gets me around a cdl. I have passanger plates on this truck and use it as a personal vehicle. with the vehicle market as it is i wouldnt care 250 or 350. if i was towing the 15k long distance i would probably opt for 4.30 gears which you can get in 250 or 350.

    Great video. We are looking at getting a 2022 F250 7.3 10 speed 3.55 Lariat. Presently, I have a 2020 Trail Boss 5.3, 10 speed and 3.23. Last year, we bought a 6K pull Travel Trailer. Even when pulling us, cargo and water, I have had zero issues. Overall, how does your F250 drive when not towing? How does it handle, steer, brake when not towing? I had a 2004 2500 Duramax way back when and understand that typically a 3/4 will not be as smooth as a 1/2 ton. My biggest decision is not on towing, which I believe the Ford F250 ( or Chevy, Ram) will handle our set-up with ease, it is just how well it will be as a daily driver. Appreciate it and any information will help before we head to the dealer next weekend to check it out.

    • @HillsideAcres

      Lately we have been using the truck for a good amount of daily driving aside from towing, I think it rides much better than our 2006 f250. I wouldnt expect it to ride as nice as a half ton but I really don’t see anything to complain about. With ours being a 4 door and long bed parking lots can be a little pain but we park in the back usually to avoid stray shopping carts and other doors dinging it up lol! But driving down the highway I would say the truck rides nice for what it is and would think the stiffer suspension is more noticeable if on a bumpy back road where I think you would be feeling the bumps reguardless. How’s this helps with your decision!

    Use one everyday at work 2020 f550 qith dump bed and its a pooch 4ton of gravel and trailer and small mini excavator takes forever to get up to Hwy speeds and gets a whopping 2.3 mpg, takes $120 to fill and only last 1 day on full tank loaded, unloaded only gets 8mpg and still have to fill up everyday, also have 2021 f450 6.7 diesel and it out performs the 7.3 godzilla no question asked hall 5 ton of rock and trailer mini and attachments gets pretty good mpg and can run on full tank for 3 days.

    That’s a nice truck if I wasn’t hauling a 21,000 pound fifth wheel trailer I would’ve probably bought the 7.3 instead of the diesel but once this trailer is not needed anymore I’m probably going to trade my truck in and get an F2 50 with a 7.3

    Hey buddy, 12 mpg is not bad. I have a 6.7 dwr and get 13. That is combined towing and normal driving. Go up a hill and the dash will say about 2.6 mpg towing 18000 lbs with a gooseneck. I will probably catch a lot of slack for saying this but the 6.7 seems extremely underpowered to me. One of my trailers is 10,000lbs and the diesel is just a dog. I thought it was nice compared to the 6.2 f350 but soon as I hop in a real truck the ford engine just seems like a wimp. My 6.7 cummins is in a truck weighing 26,000lbs and tows about 10,000 lbs daily around town driving mostly. The engine has maybe half the horsepower of the ford and like 2/3 the torque. It is not a speed demon but I don't even feel the weight of the trailer behind me, there is no noticeable difference in performance. Yes it has a heavier duty rear end but there is still too much a difference. The ford is a dog with the same trailer. No I don't ha e 3.55 or anything high in it either. All these numbers they throw out don't seem to translate into anything.
    I have three diesel trucks, not my first rodeo. I plan to sell my f350 and buy a new one. Your video is very down to earth and informative. I think for me I will prefer the 3.73 gears. The ford sees occasional towing a couple times a week now and the the diesel seems unnecessary. For every day hauling I think the diesel definitively has a benefit over a gas truck. However to use as a daily driver and anyone just hauling a camper on the weekends it is totally unnecessary.

    • @HillsideAcres
      @HillsideAcres  2 роки тому +2

      I’m right there with you, if I need a heavier hauling truck I’ll save some money and buy a pre emission semi truck and tow anything I want without blinking an eye. I did a seperate video resetting the mpg towing my 8,000lb cargo trailer over over three hundred miles and got a solid 12.0 which had me pretty impressed.
