Wei Yan really got screwed over. I wish the games would really show his More human side. He seems to be a lot more intelligent and loyal to shu in the actual history. I know the game follows the romance, but I feel like following some of the more historical beats would do his character more justice.
I feel the main reason Zhuge Liang is so beloved was becasue of his reforms and policies he introduced that treated the upper and lower class as individuals and equals. I think if Li Yan for example was a member of Wei, and tried to cover up his failure to deliver supplies to the fornt line he would have been executed. In Shu he was exiled but he atleast got to keep his life. This also actually added to the corruption to some extent within Shu as the more corrupt officials would have favoured being goverened by Wei, being so far from Luoyang they could have most likely gotten away with a lot more. My opinion on Zhuge Liang is that he was extreamly benevolent and intellegent, as such his political acheivments are second to none within Shu. When it comes to war-fare though i hink he was an overthinker and so indecisive. I genuinely believe Wei Yan could have captured Chang An and defended it whilst Zhuge Liang took control of Liang province but Zhuge didnt want to take the risk which IS uderstandable.
@@Klogalous - Zhuge Liang recognized that without Jing Province, defeating Wei would require all the stars to align for the Northern Campaigns go succeed. Thus, he never took risks and mostly fought easy battles. The truth is that there was virtually nothing he could've done to win, especially with Sima Yi as his opponent.
@@EyePatchGuy88We also need to consider resources he had at his hands. Wei have the most fetile lands and way more population and Wu have sea trade route and pretty good lands for foods. Lands Shu rule is good for defending but not as rich. Zhuge was working with what he have and Jing was sort of the key place for them to win the game. It is why both Wei and Wu deny them fortifying the place.
@Klogalous guderain was angry at hitler for diverting a panzer division to the south. He believed that the golden opportunity of capturing Moscow was between Smolensk's capture and the onset of winter. This was because there was almost no red army defending moscow by the time Smolensk fell. After the encirclement of Kiev, another red army was available to defend Moscow. Similarly, Wei Yan urged Kong Ming to send a division to capture Changan through Zhiwu Valley before more reinforcements could arrive. He believed that surprise was key to military success.
I think he'd follow Zhuge liangs orders and defend the city until the reinforcements arrive. Then Zhang He would be forced to withdraw and the campaign would continue. I think Wei Yan was one of the best things to happen to Shu and its a shame he was never given a chance to attack Chang'An. Ma Su on the other hand was case of knowing all the information from the books but with no actual practical experience. When he saw the hill at Jieting he ran up it like an exited child in my opinion.
zhang fei had already lost cities due to ignorance drinking and beating his men, hanzhong was far too important to lose like that. So wei yan got the job
all so that sound effect of Liu Shan sword hiting the gorund i find really funny i so use to you not have any sound but your voice that catch me off guard
Tiger generals was never really a thing, that's just in the novel. If anything, Wei Yan would've been 5th and Ma Chao not in the list, he never did anything of note historically under Liu Bei, all his accomplishment was before his hire waging war vs Cao Cao.
Wei Yan comes across as an insufferable genius. He knows he's good at what he does, as does most other people, but they can't stand him due to his arrogance.
I always assumed he was a tribal that was taken into shu because of how they portrayed him. Like a racist caricature Im not sure how to feel about his portrayal now that ive seen his other model and learned more about his history

Yeah they really downplayed him and make him seem like a barbaric simpleton, his moveset makes up for it though :p
Even in the romance, he wasn't a barbaric idiot like in the game
One of the faces you see leading aunit and go 'Oh, it wont be a cakewalk.'@@jurtra9090
such a sad end for a brave warrior
THIS IS GREAT. finally someone talking about these characters
Awesome video he’s one of my most favorite characters in dw especially when he literally breakdances on the battlefield
that pic of him looks NOTHING like he does in DW i was shock to see that
WEI YAN , TRUE HERO OF THE THREE KINGDOMS
I... fight! Enemy... perish!
I just wanted to say how much I appreciate these videos man really like learning this stuff about the dynasty warrior games i like so much
Thanks man that means a lot, i really enjoy it too so there is plenty more to come!
Ma Dai decapitated Wei Yan and KOEI portrayed them as best friends, that's disgusting.
They like to gloss over all the Drama it seems
Ma Dai's identity made him have no reliance in Shu Han, and he could only do some dirty work for the high-level
the more i learn about shu side the more i feel like zhuge liang is just medicore at best and jiang wei is just competent enough for job

Love the videos... Please do a pang tong video
The list grows ever longer but he is on his way
Ive always been curious what kind of man woulf lead to this kind of portrayal @@Klogalous
Wei yan reminds me of Guderain from ww2. A brave warrior who likes to take smart risks.
A top tier general through and through

Been enjoying the series my dude
Loving your videos, keep up the good work!
Thanks man
Wei Yan was a beast in DW
Good work! Do Jiang Wan and Fei Yi too
I always felt like i was playing as the predator when I'd use him
He is a savage so im not surprised lol
I wonder what would've happened if it was Wei Yan leading in Jie Ting instead of Ma Su...

Long Tong next?
Do you mean Ling Tong Yeah? ill add him to the list but its getting long (tong)
@@Klogalous lol didn't double check but yeah him
Wei Yan, former servant of Liu Biao, former servant of Han Xuan and the general of Shu Han.
What do you think of Zhang Ni?
If everybody was like Zhang Ni we would have no problems. I'll add him to the list.
Wei yan is a beast.

Yeah i was messing around and kept it in, its the sound of a fork against a plate
I have never known why the dynasty warriors game give him that mask and made him talk like a caveman
They wanted to portray him as brute all power but no brains
Considered the sixth tiger general of Shu. A great warrior
